Deals of the Week for February 27, 2012

Hello, Super-Couponers! Can you believe there are only 21 days left until the first day of Spring? Chicagoland has had such a mild winter that I kind of thought that springtime might show up a little earlier (despite what the calendar says.) And then... 6-8" of snow was dropped on us again. It was gorgeous to wake up to snow-covered trees and a winter wonderland again on Friday morning though. And, of course, my kids are enjoying the recent snow again.

Want to learn to save with coupons? Attend a Super-Couponing workshop, or order your copy on DVD and learn in the comfort of your own home... at your own pace! (Resolve to save MORE money in 2012?) Unless otherwise noted, GROCERY store deals run through WEDNESDAY of this week,
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday
.

(Also, if you're new, you may not have some of the coupon books that I refer to for some deals. Some coupon books can be found at the grocery store during seasonal promotions -- look for them, as I'll reference them when applicable. And, throughout the year, companies issue free coupon books that you can request to be mailed to you -- register for them if you'd like, as I'll reference them in future weeks' deals.

"Deals of the Week" is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it's best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)

Looking for deals and discount codes for Chicago Tribune home delivery?
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspaper to the same address!

Jewel is in the process of upgrading their registers, and when the registers have been upgraded, the deals will work on a post-coupon total, as the ad says. If you know that your store has not yet upgraded, you can try doing the deal on a pre-coupon $20... but assume all risks if you do.

Deals continuing from previous weeks:

Taste of Home FREE Cookbook, 5-cup Rice Cooker and 12-quart Tamale Steamer P&G Promotion

Jewel is running an "A Taste Of Home" mail-in promotion on P&G products. Buy $25 worth of P&G products in one transaction and receive a 2-piece cookware set and one cookbook of your choice via mail (view ad here.)

The cookware is a 12-quart tamale steamer, a 5-cup rice cooker, and one of the following cookbooks: "Fresh Mexico," "Latin Grilling," or "Cocina Cubana." $25 worth of goods must be purchased in the same transaction, and you must submit a receipt from the same store you found the forms in (must be from Jewel - cannot use a Dominick's receipt, etc.)

The offer runs through 4/30/12. Look for the forms for this rebate in Spanish/Latino Jewel locations.

The form for this offer is online too on another store's website. Several readers called the number on the form and were told that printable versions would be accepted.

UPDATE! On 2/11, I received my A Taste of Home package. It contained the rice cooker, the "Latin Grilling" cookbook I chose, and a note stating that due to overwhelming demand, the tamale steamer will not be available until June 2012, so it will ship separately.

Here's a deal on Kraft Fresh Take (6oz.) It's a new cheese and breadcrumb mix for breading meats, and it's on sale for $2. There's a $1 coupon in the 2/26 SS (or use a printable, or another printable) that will drop this to $1!

And, if you're an Mperks member, look for a .50 Mperks ecoupon to stack. With this, pay .50!

Meijer has a Catalina sale running on Charmin bath tissue. 12 mega rolls or 24 double rolls are on sale for $12.99 each. Buy two and get a $6 Catalina for your next shopping trip! There's a tiny .25 coupon in the 1/29 PG. With two coupons, pay $25.48 and get a $6 Catalina. That's $19.48 for two packages, or $9.74 each. This works out to about .41 per double roll, or about .81 per mega roll. This is a good price for the double rolls.

Meijer's running their "Buy 10 for $10, get the 11th FREE" sale again! Mix and match any included items in the ad, pay $10, and the 11th will be free. Note that Meijer does not allow a coupon on a free item, and the order in which your items are scanned in the lane determines which item is free (i.e., the 11th item across the belt.) If you are using coupons on ALL of your items, make sure your 11th item is a non-coupon item, as a coupon will not be applied to it.

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you're in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you're reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store... Confusing? Yes.

AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven't been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.

Kroger's "Daytona 500: Save $3 Now, Save $2 Later" combination instant-savings-and-Catalina deal is back again this year! If you remember this sale from last year, it was a lot of fun. Buying any 10 featured products in the ad generated $3 in instant savings AND a $2 Catalina for your next shopping trip. The ad shows the after INSTANT prices, but not the after Catalina prices. The prices shown will also drop by .20 each when you figure the Catalina savings in, but to stay consistent with the prices in the ad, I am blogging the post-instant-savings price first here. Again, you must buy ten to receive these prices.

Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)... View weekly ad

The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. I have had some readers from DeKalb write and ask if these deals will also apply to their store. In looking at both ads, SOME of the deals are the same, but Rockford at times has a Hilander-specific wraparound that isn't a part of the DeKalb Schnucks ad. Remember too that the DeKalb store does not double coupons.

The current ad is good through TUESDAY, Feb. 28th.

Tropicana Pure Premium (59oz.) is on sale for $2.78. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 coupon from 2/26 PEPSI. You'll pay $4.56 for two, or $2.28 each.

"No Coupon Needed" deals:

20oz. loaves of Schnuck's 100% Whole Wheat bread are $1.99

StarKist Chunk Light Tuna (5oz.) is .47, limit 4

Hilander meat deals:

  • Assorted bone-in pork loin chops are $1.88/lb.

Hilander produce deals:

  • Fresh green cabbage is .38/lb.
  • Sweet potatoes are .50/lb.
  • 5lb. bags of Mountain King Butter Red or Gold potatoes are $3 - that's .60/lb.
  • 3lb. bags of California Shasta mandarins are $3.99 - that's $1.33/lb.

Off to Target...
View weekly ad | Print store coupons from Target.com ...

SUNDAY ONLY: 8ct. giant rolls of Viva Paper Towels (ad says equivalent of 12 rolls) are $9.99. Buy two and get a FREE 60ct. Kleenex Hand Towels. There's a $1 Viva coupon in the 1/15 SS that expires 2/26 (and that's why you need to do this deal today..!)

So, buy two Viva. With two $1 coupons, pay $17.98 and get your free Kleenex hand towels too. That works out to $1.12 per giant roll. Not crazy-cheap, but okay if you need them.

IF you need the paper towels anyway, adding two Scrubbing Bubbles or Pledge will also add $7 to your total... but you'll get $5 back. That knocks your cleaners to $1 each after the whole deal.

Here are a few little "free after printable" deals...

Target has some new printable coupons out for their Up & Up house brands. Print a coupon for $1 off Up & Up Oral Care. You may find a cheap toothbrush with this, or go for the dental floss. It was .99 at my store, and the coupon makes it FREE!

At the same link on Target's site, look for a $1 off Up & Up Cleaning. Bottles of bleach are usually around $1.49, as are some of the spray cleaners. Or, look for Up & Up cleaning sponges, which were also .99 at my store... and FREE after coupon!

If your store carries single bottles of Joint Juice fitness water, you may find that they're priced between $1.19-$1.49. Use this $1.50 printable and pay... nothing! It's FREE!

Target Notes:

You get .05 off your total at Target for each reusable bag you bring and use. If you pay with the Target credit or debit card, you receive another 5% off.

And, if you haven't already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don't have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart...

Policies to know:

  • Walmart will price match any competitor's advertised price. Bring the other store's flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn't require this, it does speed the price-matching along.

  • With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store's STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick's store coupon advertising ".99 Ragu Pasta Sauce" would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising "2/$1 Morton's Salt" would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for "$2.50 off Huggies" would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)

  • With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor's Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.

  • Walmart's new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says "Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase."

I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.

I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location's regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I've listed Walmart at the end of each week's Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you'll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

Walgreens Question

Did anyone try to do the Cortaid Anti-Itch Cream (.5oz.) that is on sale for $3.99, BOGOF deal? I tried to use two $3 coupons for the cream and did purchase filler items but they would not allow me to use a second $3 coupon in the deal. They adjusted the one coupon they did take down to $2.99 because that was the cost of the cream (at the McHenry Walgreens anyway!) I was purchasing. The woman who rang me up said if the cost of the cream had been $3.99 (in otherwords OVER the value of the coupon) she could have given me $3 off of the cream I was purchasing and 99-cents off of the free cream (if I was using two coupons). I know they do allow two coupons in a BOGOF scenario but she said because the coupon value($3) was more than the cost of the item she couldn't take the second coupon. I do know that their policy is to reduce the coupon to the amount of the purchase. I didn't really understand why she wouldn't adjust the value of the second coupon down to $2.99 too. Anyone else (except Charlie Q) have any problems with this deal?

Anybody

have a similar thing happen? I understand what she was saying but was curious if anyone else had a like experience.

worked fine

I did the bogo at the spring grove wags and bought 4 cortaid products I only had 3 coupons so it worked for me I bought 2 of the spray $5.79 and 2 cream $2.99 and used my 3 coupons. ALL free for me no beeps since the coupons were scanned before totaling my order.

$5.79 sprays

put your total over the $3.00 value of the coupon which is why you didn't have any problems.

I'm going to answer anyway

The price ended up being $2.99 BOGO, the second coupon was not needed because the first coupon covered the total.

Correct

Charlie is right - the second coupon was not needed here.

Iron purely

I noticed that this product was put back into the shelf. When this was on sale few weeks back one of the managers at walgreens said that it was pulled out of tbe market or recalled. If it was recalled why do they have it on their shelf?

From my understanding

The manufacturer voluntarily pulled it due to a discoloration in the product and only affected a few lot numbers. They did it as a safeguard to make sure that the discoloration was indeed safe.

Thanks a lot Charlie atleast

Thanks a lot Charlie atleast i wouldnt be worried of purchasing this product the next time it goes on sale.

Walgreens Belvita Breakfast Biscuit

I went to my Walgreens Monday morning looking for the Belvita. The manager said they didn't have any, and there was no where on the shelf for it. I think they are very good about advertising these specials with RR but run out very early or don't have them in the first place. Unlike CVS they do not give rain checks on RR specials.

I went to walgreens the other

I went to walgreens the other day and the manager said that they never got the belvita and non of the walgreens in the area got it. I went to walgreens at mundelein.

people who buy more than fair share

went to two walgreens today to try the belvita breakfast biscuits and the shelfs are empty.

how many do people need, leave some for the rest of us.

Don't think it's hoarding...

...I've been to several myself and no one has them. One nice clerk told me they are new to the stores (which is why there isn't a shelf tag) and each store got about one case - 12 I am guessing. So not really many to begin with. She said they get their truck on Sat. so I am going to go back and try then. Fingers crossed!

Meijer Coupon Values incorrect AGAIN

I was at Meijer today and used a $0.60/3 coupon for the boxed Green Giant vegetables that were on sale 10 for $10 and it only rang up as $0.40. I didn't notice until I was in the car and didn't bother to go back in for the $0.20, but I just wanted to let people know to watch carefully at Meijer to make sure you are getting the full value of your coupons!

Jewel

I just tried using the 30% off frozen food Dominick's store Q at Jewel and was told I couldn't use it. When I asked for a manager she told me since it's not off of an item, I couldn't use it. I know I've done this in the summer, but I know their policy changed recently. Should I be able to do this?

For an item?

Wow, that is a good question. Their policy specifically addresses things like using a coupon for 16oz. Dominick's bread on 16oz. Jewel bread, but for a general 30% off, I'm not sure. I have used a $3 off $10 produce Catalina at Jewel, because again, it was for a product... but it's also not much different than the 30% off frozen food.

I just looked at their policy

I just looked at their policy online and it says they take competitors "minimum purchase" coupons. Wouldn't it be considered a minimum purchase since u need to spend at least $10? What's the difference between $5 off and 30% off? I wish I had the time to look up the policy when I was there and showed them, but I was on my lunch break, and wasn't sure if they still did it. Too bad bc it would've went perfectly with the 50% off Lean Cuisines.

I would think

From what you're saying, I tend to agree - you have to purchase *some* frozen food to use it.

jewel nabisco

Hi Jill, I went to Jewel tonight and tried the Buy 10, Save $5. The $5 didn't come off, so I checked the ad. Nabisco wasn't mentioned in that deal but was listed under a different deal, and 4 of my 10 items were Nabisco. Does your ad say something different? I plan on returning items tomorrow, and I just want to make sure. Thanks!

Nabisco items didn't work for

Nabisco items didn't work for me either.

front page

I don't have the ad in front of me but I believe the Nabisco are on the front page of the weekly ad, with a note that they are included in the deal, if I remember correctly. I will check tomorrow.

Pulling them.

I'm so sorry for the typo guys. The Nabisco are part of a "Buy 4, Save $2" instant-savings sale -- their own instant deal and not the larger one. :( My misake.

no worries

It was my fault for shopping late at night! I'm usually better about looking at the tags. Oh, well! Returned those and bought more Pepsi. Luckily, the customer service is great at the McHenry Jewel!

Jewel- tropicana orange juice has a coupon

Jill, I was just picking out coupons. There is a $1 coupon on the back of the pepsi flyer. The OJ is part of the Buy 10, get $5 in your list. Just thought I'd post, didn't see it mentioned.

*couponTom info: Trop50 Orange Juice (59oz.) - $2.49

correc

couponTom didn't say Trop50, I pasted that from the b10, get $5 list... sometimes I wish I could "edit undo" LOL

Trop50

The ad shows regular Tropicana Pure Premium though, not the Trop50. If you know for certain that the Trop50 is included in the same promotion, I'll update -- but I didn't want to post an incorrect matchup.

your prob right

my ad shows Trop 50, 59 oz., but the coupon says "any two TROPICANA PURE PREMIUM, 59 oz."
So the pure premium must be diff. than the trop 50, labels are different.

Bummer!

All You Magazine

I have found that the amount of coupons available in the current All You magazines have drastically diminished making it not such a great resource to obtain coupons. The articles are also very repetitive. No one that I know is renewing this magazine. Probably not a good idea to keep promoting it. Not a good bargain anymore!!

I guess it's all in what you buy

If you hit a subscription special (they just had one last week) it's only $1 per month. I always use at least $1 worth of coupons out of it -- just in the last two weeks I've used the $1 off M&Ms and the pierogies coupon, so for me, it's worth it. Again, as with anything, it depends what you like to buy...

Coke Rewards

I just grabbed a subscription (my first ever) with my Coke Rewards. For the points, it was worth it. It's no "real" money out of my pocket, so I figured what the heck! :)

I think I may have spotted a Cocoa Puffs deal!

Do the "Deal Match" on Dominicks site for the cereal deal from Jewel which is on sale for $1.99 each. Then, Dominikcs site has a coupon for $1.00 off cocoa puffs. Looks to be the correct sizes to me. Take you down to .99 CEREAL!

Dominicks dough balls

Could someone tell me where in the store I can find the dough balls?
I assume they are bagged? Last time they were on sale, I checked around the deli, and in the prepared dough/crescent roll area... and asked for help. 3 people could not locate it for me.
I would really appreciate some help... I'll be shopping in crystal lake.

And, I'm really appalled by the target story. Limiting coupons to 4 or such small number, is ridiculous... when you can go elsewhere. They seem like they are being "empowered" to limit high value coupons. They are getting reimbursed right, why the hostility?

Found!

Found them tonight, across from the ribs, side by side with their in house pizzas.
I think I missed them last time, because there were only a handful... so assume they were empty last time.
PS 2lbs of raw shrimp were about $5.50/lb. on my J4U, make sure to read the signs in the cooler, diff. size was 2 days expired for price.

In LITH...

... they are in an open refrigerator case in the deli, near the ribs.

thanks

Thanks Jill! I had wanted to try the Trader Joe's one, but don't go to algonquin frequently... hate those dang red light cameras! Dominicks is much easier.

Arm and Hammer laundry detergent

Has anybody seen the $1/2 Arm and Hammer laundry Q? I looked it up on Coupon Tom and it says 2/12S, but I cant seem to find it. Thanks in advance.

All You

It's in the January All You noted above. The 2/12 insert coupon was regional.

Ore Ida easy fries

LITH Jewel is out and not sure if they will get any in by Wednesday.

Meijer Charmin deal...Extra Q's inside???

If anyone did the Charmin deal, did you look under your package? I found $1 Charmin Q's in both red packages I purchased!!!

I also had $1 Charmin Q's from my Duracell battery packs to purchase the initial packages. May try to do the next deal at Jewel.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot.

Azteca tortilla chips

are B1G1 at Jewel this week. So, 2 bags for $2.69 or $1.35 each. Not bad if you're always running out of tortilla chips like we do.

Nature Valley and Viactiv Deal

I bought 4 boxes of Nature Valley granola bars which are currently $1.79 with super coupon and used 75 cents off 2 from the 1/8 GM. I then received a $2 off your next purchase cat. So around 92 cents a box! Also at Jewel they had the 60 ct. Viactiv chews (caramel) for $4.49 with a $3 cat OYNO, so I used the $2 off coupon in 1/8 S1 making it a moneymaker!

Marie Callender's at Dominicks

I just Marie Callender's Frozen individual meals for $.55 at Domincks. In my J4U I had them at $1.96 each, used the 30% off frozen coupon and they came up .55 each. It took the 30% off the full price.

walgreens question

So do I need to have multiple walgreens coupons for what i want to buy. For instance some say 'limit 2'. Is that coupon enough for two or do I need to have two separate coupons?

thanks so much

thanks so much

Walgreens

You only need one Walgreens coupon...it will apply to all of the items.

Walgreens

No, if they are store Q's, then the clerks usually ring up the same Q twice and for seperate transactions. However, they are allowed to limit your purchases.

Grands Rolls

I have both the 2/5 and the 1/8 GM but the coupons I have say $.30/1 Pillsbury Sweet rolls or Grand Sweet Rolls. I do see The $.30/2 on Grands Biscuits. The Super Coupon says Grand Biscuits but does not mention Grand Sweet Rolls. Does the $.30/1 match up with the Super coupon?

Land O' Frost $1 coupon deal is over - after they get your info

I hate these companies that make you fill out all the info and give them your Email and such and then you click on print and get a reply like this one does - Sorry, this coupon program is no longer available.
I had the same type of stuff yesterday on facebook with aunt Jemima page - filled out all the info then they tell you none are available to print.
