Hello, Super-Couponers! Welcome to your LAST deals of 2009!
This week’s 12/27 newspaper contained one insert – P&G. But next Sunday’s going to kick off the New Year in typical coupon style, with a FIVE insert week! Might be a good week to pick up extra papers, if you’re so inclined…
If you’re new to the site, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon lingo and abbreviations. It’s a good idea to save the grocery and drugstore flyers from both Wednesday and Sunday each week to have on hand & refer to too as you go through the deals! And, if you’re new to couponing in general, check out my Super-Couponing® website for a list of coupon classes (most are FREE!) and easy instructions on how to start using coupons effectively!

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel, due to the new year, we’ve got another weird week of sales cycle dates. This week’s sales run through January 2, which also just happens to be the birthday of a certain local coupon queen you may know… :)
Super pineapple deal! Jewel’s got whole pineapples on sale for .99 each at most stores – no coupon needed!
Did you see there’s yet another $5-off-$50 coupon on the front page of this week’s Jewel flyer? Clip it & carry it in case you get your total that high (though many Super-Couponers know that’s difficult to do once you’ve couponed your bill down to the barely-there point…!
Here’s a fun deal on Kashi cereal that you can do if you’re a Vocalpoint member and received those nice $3 Kashi GoLean cereal coupons in a recent mailer… AND did the Jewel Preferred Card update earlier this year when they were giving out that great coupon book! Kashi GoLean is on sale for $2.99. It’s already free with these coupons, but here’s a way to make it better. Buy 2 boxes, stack the $3 manufacturer coupons from Vocalpoint with the $1 off 2 store coupon, and you’re getting two boxes for free with $1.02 overage!
This deal’s courtesy of my beautiful sister Lynn, who hung onto those Kashi coupons, intent on finding an excellent deal! (And she did.)
Here’s another cereal deal at Jewel this week. Special K cereal, bars, and/or crackers are on sale for $2.49, buy 4, get the 5th free (you must buy all 5 at the same time.) Print two Buy One, Get One Free coupons for the cereal. With two coupons, buy 5 boxes (four must be cereal, but the 5th can be anything in the deal) and pay just $4.98 for 5 boxes, or about .99 each!
A few weeks ago, we saw a great deal on Wonderful Pistachios where they were on sale for $4.99, buy one, get one free. With two $1 coupons, you paid just $2.99 for two, or $1.50 each. Well, the deal is back! Use two $1 coupons from either 11/15 SS or printables and take them home again for this great price…

Mixing and matching any of the items above to get to a $25 total, (PRE COUPON!) will generate a $10 Catalina at checkout. Want a GREAT, easy deal to do?
A super shaving/toothpaste deal:
2 Gillette Fusion Razors – $17.98
2 Gillette Hydra Gel – $5.98
1 Crest toothpaste – $1.99
Pre-coupon total: $25.95
$5.98 for free HydraGels automatically deducts from Avenu
Use $4 and $2 coupons for Fusion Razors
Use $1 off and $1.50 off coupons for HydraGel
Use .75 cent coupon for Crest
Pay $10.72 and get $10 back! ALL that for .72! Now, if you’re a multiple-inserts person, use two $4 coupons for the razors instead — pay $8.72 and get $10 back! FREE and a moneymaker!
Note too that for many people, Avenu has been taking $3.79 off for the HydraGel, REGARDLESS of the price of it — if this happens, you’ll get significant overage here.
Special thanks to Prea in our Forum for crunching the numbers on this one!
Now…
My black belt couponers know that these deals typically work differently at Jewel than at any other store.
VERY IMPORTANT: If you have never done a high-level Catalina deal at Jewel before, please read this short overview of the way the price structure works. In a nutshell, if you base your dollar-spent mark on the non-Preferred prices, you can save even more money and spend less out of pocket.
If this makes no sense or is the least bit confusing to you… do NOT do the deal in this way. These high-level Catalina deals can be very confusing, especially when you’re new at this. If you are new, use the PREFERRED price only, and you’ll get the Catalina every time. But if you’re a “black belt” couponer and want to maximize your savings… here are some of the best deals. Again, if you use these scenarios and do not get your Catalina, DO NOT go to Customer Service and ask them to make it right for you. You WILL NOT have purchased what the ad states that you must. Again, YOU are taking the risk on these deals. You must be willing to accept ANY outcome without complaining, even if it means not getting any Catalinas at all. Further compounding the confusion, Osco items typically work on the PREFERRED price, but this time around, some aren’t. Again, tread carefully here if you’re new… A diapers/toothpaste deal Buy 2 jumbo pack Pampers ($9.99 each) Use $2 and $1.50 coupons for the Pampers Pay $19.21 and get $10 back! 2 jumbo packs of diapers AND 2 tubes of toothpaste for $9.21! That works out to under $5 a pack for the diapers… AND free toothpaste. If you get multiple inserts, use the higher-value coupons here too, of course… OR… A Big Pack diapers deal Buy 1 Pampers Big Pack ($18.99) Use $2 coupon for Pampers and .75 and .50 for Crests Pay $19.72 and get $10 back… Note too that if you’re buying the Big Packs, look for the boxes advertising a P&G coupon book inside the box. The book contains:
A Pantene deal… with a snack Buy 6 Pantene (your choice included in the deal) Pre-coupon total is $21.48. Use $1 off 2 coupon and $3 off 2 coupon. Pay $17.48 and get $10 back… that knocks the Pantene down to about $1 a bottle. IF you got the $2 and $1 Pantene coupons from Vocalpoint, use them here too! Of course, with multiple inserts, this one gets sweeter – with a $1-off-2 and two $3-off-2, pay $14.48 and get $10 back. With THREE $3-off-2? Pay $12.48 and get $10 back! WOW! A Tide/Cascade deal… with a snack Buy one Tide Use $1 coupon for Tide, .50 for Cascade (and a second Cascade if you’ve got it.) Pay $19.77 and get $10 back – you’ve essentially brought the price of the Tide down by a dollar, AND gotten two Cascades and the Pringles for free! NOTE: If your Tide shows a regular price of $14.49, you will need ANOTHER filler to make this work. Toothpaste is a good one. A toilet paper/toothpaste deal Buy 3 Charmin Pre-coupon total is $24.46 Pay $21.21 and get $10 back! CHEAP TP! REMEMBER… ALWAYS, ALWAYS verify prices at your store at the price-checker BEFORE using the above scenarios. You are using these matchups at YOUR OWN RISK. And remember to roll those Catalinas! Use the $10 you got to help pay for your next round, and so on… |
Lastly, this is the LAST WEEK of 2009! If you did the Jewel Freezer Deal this February and still have coupons for free items, don’t forget about them. One reader wrote to note that Farm Rich Mozzarella Sticks are currently B1G1F, so if you’re still holding this one, go and get two boxes… for FREE!
Over at Dominick’s, this week’s flyer offers FREE coupons for a loaf of bread, a dozen eggs, a pound of bacon and a carton of orange juice with a $50 minimum purchase.* These coupons are good through TODAY, 12/29….
Now, if you like these coupons but plan to hit Jewel this week too, you may wish to take a look at this discussion on Jewel’s policy on competitor store-brand coupons…
Other cheapies at Doms this week (note that the rest of this week’s Dominick’s deals end FRIDAY, January 1!) :
Lucerne Cream Cheese bricks or tubs are .99 each when purchased 2 at a time. Note that you must buy TWO to get this price…
Nancy Martin bread is .99 a loaf…
Chilli Man Chili is .79 a can…
If you’ve picked up any of the great $2 off Waterfront Bistro products coupon (found on cardboard stand-up displays in the seafood department) this is the last week to use them, as they expire 12/31! [While Dominick’s accepts expired manufacturer coupons, these are STORE coupons, and they will indeed expire this week.]
Here are some good sales on Waterfront Bistro seafood to use these great $2 coupons in conjunction with…
Smoked Salmon – 4 oz – $3.99
Frozen Salmon, Cod, or Tilapia fillets – 12 oz. packages – $5.99
2lb. Frozen Large Raw Shrimp – $4.99
1lb. Frozen Cooked Shrimp – $6.99
16 oz. Frozen Shrimp Cocktail Ring – $7.99
All of these prices will drop by $2 with coupon!
Or, if you’d prefer a little freebie, bottles of Waterfront Bistro shrimp cocktail sauce are $1.99 — and FREE with this coupon, as it’s good on ANY Waterfront Bistro product!
Continuing through 1/6! Dominick’s has a GREAT cracker deal going on many varities of crackers. It’s a “Buy 5, save $5,” and the prices shown assume you are buying in quantities of 5. You can buy many multiples of 5 in the same transaction too (5, 10, 15) to get the prices. Here are your items and matchups…
General coupons to use with any of the following:
– 11/8 SS – $1 off Nabisco crackers
– 12/13 SS – $1 off 2 Nabisco crackers
– 8/23 SS – .75 off 2 Nabisco crackers
Nabisco “Back to School” coupon book found in stores in September has MANY $1 off 2 coupons for these as well, as does the “Jingle In Your Holiday” Nabisco coupon book currently found near Nabisco displays in many Dominick’s.

Mix and match any way you like here… but any way you look at it, you’re getting some CHEAP or FREE (if you buy the .99 Cheese Nips, with a $1 coupon) crackers! :)
Note too that the Jingle In Your Holiday coupon book contains a $10 rebate when you buy $10 worth of Nabisco crackers. While the Cheese Nips aren’t included, many other varieties (Ritz, Triscuit, Wheat Thins) are — and with coupons, you can take home 10 boxes of those for $1 each… then send in for your $10 rebate!
There are a few Dominick’s Super Coupons in this week’s flyer too. Best bet? The coupon for Chinet paper plates, pricing them at $2, limit 4. Couple this with the $2 and $1 Chinet coupons from 11/22 SS (more expireds out there too) and take home some FREE or cheap plates!
A note on Dominick’s Super Coupons: All Super Coupons require a total purchase of $20 or more to use. But, the “Minimum $20 purchase” applies to the REGULAR, non-sale price of those items. Really! It’s even spelled out very well on Safeway’s corporate site:
What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases before your Club Card discount is applied. This total will include the coupon item’s regular price, not the discounted price. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (before coupon and before Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.
So, knowing this, getting over that $20 mark isn’t as hard as it seems…
Lastly, note that some stores are offering 10% off any Safeway house brand products from now until the end of the year… and that ends THIS week! I don’t have a complete list of which stores are participating (saw the signs at the Crystal Lake store) but it comes off automatically at the register when your Fresh Values card is scanned… and is a good way to bring prices of meats, dairy and other house-branded items down even more!
At Meijer, Dole bagged salads are on sale for $1 each. Even without a coupon, this is a good deal… but Smartsource has a $1 off 2 printable that will take these down to .50 each!
Meijer premium orange juice is on sale for $2.25 a carton – a good price, even without a coupon…
The Jell-O Catalina is reportedly continuing too. Jell-o is on sale for .50 a box. Buy 6 and get a $2 Catalina. With no coupons, pay $3 and get $2 back… that’s $1 for 6 boxes of Jell-o! Many stores have had tearpad coupons recently for Jello — if you’ve got them, use them here, as you could make this a moneymaker…
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
For my Rockford-area readers, Hilander has some good deals this week too. These sales run through Dec. 30:
Chicken drumsticks or thighs are on sale for $1.19/lb…
Tyson boneless skinless chicken breasts are $1.87 a pound… an excellent price…
Pork chops are also a great price at $1.97/lb…
Suave deodorants are priced at $1 this week. Use the .75 coupons from 10/25 RP and take these home for a quarter!
Wonderful Pistachios are a great deal at Hilander this week too! Priced at $2.50 a bag, let’s use the same coupons as the Jewel deal… Use two $1 coupons from either 11/15 SS or printables and take them home for $1.50 a bag.
Minute Maid orange juice or fruit punch is at a SUPER price this week – $1.88 a half-gallon — no coupon needed!
Continuing again this week, Kroger 1/2 gallons milk are on sale for $1.25 each (orange juice and tea included at that price this week too.)
The milk coupons from www.dairymakessense.com would work well here. If you’re buying 2 gallons of milk (4 half-gallons,) use the $1 off chocolate milk coupon to get a 1/2 gallon of chocolate for a quarter!
Off to Target… Oscar Mayer lunch meats are on sale this week for $2.79. Use this printable Target store coupon for $1 off the lunchmeat, stacked with the $1-off-2 coupon from 12/13 SS. You’ll pay just $3.58 for 2, or $1.79 each! If your Target lets you use two Target store coupons here (they do state one per transaction) you’ll pay $2.58, or $1.29 each…
Glad ForceFlex trash bags are a decent deal this week too. They’re $5.99 for the 34-ct. kitchen bags. Use the Target store coupon for $1 off from 12/6 RP (or the same coupon is printable on Target’s site) and stack it with the $1 manufacturer coupons from here or here and pay $3.99, post-coupons…
After a recent deal at Jewel on SoBe Lifewater beverages, many readers wrote to say they were big fans of this! During our last deal, it worked out to around the .50/bottle mark, and you can do a similar deal this week at Target.
Target has Sobe Lifewater on sale for $1 each. For every 10 you buy, you’ll receive a $5 gift card at checkout. When you pay $10 and get $5 back, you’ll ultimately pay just .50 each!
Cheap bread alert… Market Pantry sandwich bread is just .99 a loaf…
If you’re still holding onto any $5 Luvs coupons (from Luvs direct mailer) — they’re expiring 12/31! Target has jumbo packs of Luvs on sale for $6.99. With coupon, they’ll be just $1.99…
The RayOVac battery deal continues, with many Targets reducing the batteries to .50 a package! Visit www.rayovacbonus.com and enter coupon code 74016761. You’ll get an unlimited-print $1 RayOVac coupon!
Keep in mind this coupon is for ALKALINE batteries only (Target Dollar Spot has other RayOVac varieties too.) And… enjoy those free batteries!
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens, forum member Casagrande spotted an excellent deal on Sally Hansen LaCrosse beauty tools (think tweezers, nail clippers, scissors…) The tools are currently on sale Buy One, Get One Free. Use the B1G1F coupon from December All You and take home two for FREE! Note that the coupon has a value of $7, so watch the prices of your products here if you’re aiming for that free mark.
Here’s another fun one. Wags has Honey Nut Cheerios, Fiber One, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereals on sale for $2 a box. When you buy 2, plus a gallon of milk, you get $2 back in Register Rewards.
A secret? You don’t have to buy the milk.. Let’s use coupons to make this even better…
With 2 coupons, pay $2 for 2 boxes of either (or mix and match one of each) and get $2 in RRs! FREE cereal! Note that you cannot do more than one offer per transaction — buying 4 boxes will not generate $4 in RRs.
Suave body wash is on sale for $1. With the .50 coupon from 10/25 RP, it’s just .50…
Chex Mix is on sale for $1 a bag. Use these .50 printables to take it home for half that!
AND… an odd little deal to close out the year… Walgreens has a bunch of school supplies on sale again. They’ve got Penway 10-packs #2 pencils, rulers or pencil sharpeners, or PaperMate 5-pack mechanical pencils on sale for just .19 each…
… and at .49 each, you can take home a 4 oz. Penway glue, a 5-pack Corner Office tab dividers, a 1-subject notebook or a roll of Wags invisible tape…
… AND, at .99 each, take home a package of Penway filler paper, a 3-subject notebook, an 80-sheet composition book, a pocket calculator, or a 5-pack of Bic highlighters!
And finally, over at CVS, how about some FREE soap? Ivory soap 3-packs are on sale at most CVS locations for .99. Use the $1 coupon from 12/27 PG to take these home for FREE…
Here are some good free-after-ECB products…
Colgate Total Advanced toothpaste is $2.99. Buy it and get $2 back in Extra Care Bucks. Make it FREE with a $1 coupon from November All You or January All You!
Continuing through the end of the month…
Complete multi-purpose solution is $9.99 with $9.99 back in ECBs. Make it a moneymaker with the $1 coupon from 10/25 RP!

Open Pantry food marts are offering a free Palermo Classics pizza to anyone registering for their Ring Thing promotion. Visit their site to register and print a free coupon! The Ring Thing is a free keychain you can scan on future trips to Open Pantry to receive food discounts. For my Illinois readers, the Crystal Lake Open Pantry location is inside the Shell gas station at the corner of Rt. 14 and Rt. 31.
As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically 20-30 of them. Many websites are now tracking the All You coupons and matching them to deals, just as they do with the newspaper coupon inserts. You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

The ones one the Wags Q are “Disposable” or “HandSaver”. The Q from 10/04 SS is for the “Living” gloves.
dancingwolves says
on my Avenu it says up to $3.79 retail off limit of two…so I presume if I buy two my deduction will be what I paid (sale presume it lower than $3.79) versus the shelf being Osco side?

actually read good from 12/27 – 12/29…. better jump on those today!

I’ve seen a couple comments mentioning this. I’m a newby and I live in a small town in GA, is this something I have access to?? Thanks!

JSYK – the $2 coupon from 11/22 SS is for side/salad plates. My dominicks didn’t even carry them (no space, no sign, etc), so I’m not sure they are part of the deal. I was able to pick up some of the dinner plates for $1. Chinet has an interesting sizing strategy going on. They put out coupons (this time I noticed this on the Doms ad Q) for specific sizes – like 35 count. When I got to the store, most of the plates are 37 count. I’ve seen this many times – where the sizes are like 1 or 2 plates-off! Strange . . .
tripletts07 says
Has anyone not had this print out the catalina? I wasn’t sure if it was because I did a transaction previously or because I was on the Osco side. I saw somebody else get the same exact thing so I was curious if it was just me or perhaps the Jewel?
A Big Pack diapers deal
Buy 1 Pampers Big Pack ($18.99)
Buy 2 tubes Crest toothpaste ($1.99 each)
Use $2 coupon for Pampers and .75 and .50 for Crests
Pay $19.72 and get $10 back…

I did the following Tampax deal today:
3 boxes of Tampax “Super” 45 ct – Priced at 5.99 on sale for 4.99
3 boxes of Tampax “super” 20 ct – priced at 3.49
Used 3 of the buy 1 Tampax 30-60 ct and get 1 tampax 18-20 count free. Coupons were in Sunday’s PG.
Total after coupons was 17.01, rolled a 10.00 cat and paid 7.01. Not bad for 6 boxes.

Print two $1 off 1 Special K Blueberry cereal
Print two $0.50 off fresh fruit when you buy Special k
SpecialK.com:
Sign up for the Special K challenge and print two BOGO coupons
Buy two Special K Blueberry for $4.98
Buy two more Special K cereals in the sale of the flavor of your choice for $4.98 (LOTS to choose from)
Now select your “free” cereal, bars, or crackers for purchasing 4 Special K items (FREE)
Now head to the produce dept and pick up 2 lbs of bananas – put about 1 lb per bag and make sure they are rung up separate = on sale for .59/lb so 2 lbs for $1.18
When you check out your pre-coupon total will be about $11.14 (depending on the poundage of your bananas)
Make sure $2.49 comes off for your free item by using your Jewel card
Hand over your coupons and the coupons will take off:
$2 for Special K Blueberry
$4.98 for the two free boxes

for the Jewel pantene deals, you can sweeten the pot a bit – many of the bottles have a JEWEL store Q for .50 off one bottle! A great stacker and an added bonus for me in the PG 25/10 deal… Although my cashier seemed pretty sure they were only good one per customer. I didn’t mind since it was still .50 going back into my pocket!

The above scenarios including 2 toothpastes can throw you off if you pick the plain paste. They are reg. $2.39 on sale for $1.99. To make it work you need 2 of the more expensive tubes, that are still on sale for $1.99 but reg. $3.19. I was like a quarter short and had to pull from my next transaction on the belt and got it all messed up.
Also, 3 Charmin did work for me as well as another poster, reg. $8.99.

Hello!
Okay – for this jewel $25/$10 deal…I really need to stock up on tp, puffs and toothpaste. Here are my questions:
1) In McHenry, do I use the regular price or the sale price or the preferred price to get to $25?
2) If I do one transaction, can I use the $10 catalina on another $25 transaction?
3) When does this special end?
Thank you ladies! And ANY advice you have is welcome!

I know that Jill already mentioned this, but using the coupons out of this book really helped!
It has a $1.00 Mr. Clean coupon, as well as a $1.50 for Dawn (the Direct Foam one).
So just a reminder, don’t forget to use the coupons in this book! There are lots more, but these are the ones I used. Hope this helps someone.
