It’s no secret that I am a die-hard Coca-Cola lover. I don’t have many vices — I don’t smoke or drink alcohol, and I don’t even drink coffee. I do, however, have one vice, and it’s sugar-sweetened Coca-Cola. Coke fiends like myself know there are two ways to get HFCS-free Coca-Cola: Buy Mexican-bottled Cokes, or purchase Kosher-for-Passover Coca-Cola, which is made with the original, sugar-based Coke formula.
Passover 2016 begins on April 22nd, but Coca-Cola’s already bottling and selling Kosher-for-Passover Coke for the 2016 season! Rejoice, fellow sugar-Coke lovers. The time to pause and refresh with a delicious Coke is upon us again.
Drink Coca-Cola. It’s the Real Thing. Coke is It. Always Coca-Cola. Open Happiness! It’s Ice Cold Sunshine. (Oh, you get the idea, don’t you?) I’d like to buy the world a Coke, but instead, I’ll tell you how to get some of your own.
You can recognize kosher-for-Passover Coke in stores by the yellow caps on the 2-liter bottles. Look for it in the Kosher-for-Passover food section of your store, or do what I do each year: Ask your favorite supermarket to special-order you the quantity you’d like. I have been special-ordering a year’s supply of Kosher Coke from my local Jewel-Osco store each year for at least the past ten years. (I allocate myself around one 2-liter bottle for each week of the year…)
My local Jewel has been so good about ordering this for me, year after year, that they just know when it’s time. I went into the store last week and headed to the customer service counter, and the person looking back at me smiled and said “It’s Coke time, isn’t it?” Yep. (Huntley, Illinois Jewel-Osco staff: You are great, and you truly know your regular customers. Thank you!)
If you place a large order though, do your store a favor and pick it up on time after they call to say it’s in. Your staff will be navigating around your big cart o’ Coke behind the service counter until you come by to take it home, and your promptness in retrieving your order may just influence how willing your store is to place another large Coca-Cola order for you next year.
I just returned home with my 2016 “new crop” of Kosher-for-Passover Coca-Cola and am kicking back with its deliciousness. Mmm, Coca-Cola. Taste the feeling!

I’m on my last 2 liter of Sugar Pepsi from last year. Sugar Pepsi has white caps.
I buy BOTH Coke & Pepsi sugar versions during this time of the year.

I’m going to have to make a trip to the Huntley store to special order. For a few years I left special orders at the Algonquin west, Crystal Lake and Cary stores several times and to no avail. Last year after no responses for several weeks, I was politely relentless and pointed out the red and white special order forms through out the store and said do these really work? I ended up finally getting an order filled but it took a store manager visiting his mother in Buffalo Grove and bringing them back for me.
They advised me that in the future don’t count on such a special order on things that are limited time only. These three stores have two different distribution centers. The other option I have is to “bump” into the Coke delivery lady and see if she has some on her truck.

I do this also, 52 bottles a year. The last few months of the stock doesn’t taste as fresh but still better than HFCS version. I keep as many as I can cold through the year, helps with preservation. There’s a interview with a suit from Coke saying there’s isn’t a taste difference. He doesn’t even know his own product or doesn’t want to promote it cause they probably lose a few cents a ounce using real sugar.

I never had a chance to special order the coke and resolved to just buy small bottles of the Mexican variety. I went to get some liters of Ice Mountain sparkling water for .25 each at the Crystal Lake store. I ran into Coke lady (my affectionate term for the pint sized delivery women in the area who has super human strength for they way she brings in stock and shelves it) and asked if she had any left on the truck. Lo and behold she had just stocked a shelf full of it near an end cap with other passover products. While I don’t have enough for the year I did clear the shelf for an ample supply and luckily they were 4/$5.
