Tonight I’ve been working on matchups for the upcoming grocery ads, and I spotted a good price on Sheba cat food in Thursday’s Meijer ad. I headed over to our favorite coupon database, CouponTom, to see what coupons were out. That’s when I saw this:
What? Sheba Perfect Portions “Food for Cats and PEOPLE?” As ridiculous as it sounds, I started to wonder if indeed Sheba was making cat dishes that owners could share with their feline friends. Last week a blog reader sent me several links where people were discussing eating Fancy Feast appetizers and broths. Yes, humans choosing to eat cat appetizers and “broths,” which are apparently seafood soups for cats.
O-kay. (Those links are here and here if you’re curious — the latter link has some strong language, mainly describing reactions to eating the various food flavors, so avoid if that sort of thing offends you. That site does, however, have some nice photography of the various cat broths which show why people might actually be interested in eating these things.)
Still — this is CAT FOOD, people. And now, my coupon database is telling me there’s a $2.00 coupon out for “Sheba PERFECT PORTIONS Food for Cats and PEOPLE.”
I had to check this out. Did Sheba take Fancy Feast’s upscale-cat-dining concept to the next level and create cat/people food for cat-people?
Upon clicking over to Coupons.com, I was greeted with the following coupon graphic and a more detailed description of the offer:
A-ha. One must purchase Sheba and PEOPLE MAGAZINE to use the coupon. I’m actually a little disappointed that this offer was far less exciting than my coupon database led me to believe.
