A clearance-shopping afternoon: Meijer

If you haven’t heard, it seems that every Meijer location is taking an extra 50% off clearance clothing prices today and tomorrow. Readers from all around the Midwest have been posting about it on my Facebook wall, so if you’re near a Meijer and love clothing deals, it may be worth checking out!

We went to the Algonquin Meijer, and truly, the entire store is filled with clearance racks in every department: Men’s, Women’s, Juniors, Boys’, Girls’ and Baby. We found so many great buys!

Here are some of the deals we found this afternoon…

My daughter picked up three long-sleeve shirts for $4.90, $4.90, and $3.50, and two pairs of pants for $4.90 each.

There are some GREAT deals to be had on coats and snow gear. I picked up a winter coat for my oldest son (for a future year) for $12 and a pair of snow pants for $7.50. I also picked up a heavyweight winter coat for my husband for $15, and a lighter-weight jacket for him for $5! The Algonquin Meijer had MANY, many coats in every department this afternoon, all at great prices.

The boys’ department had a set of shelves filled with $3 shirts: $1.50 after the sale!

These shirts were 50/50 cotton/poly blends (my son cannot wear polyester) so I had to pass on these.

I did find a $3 shirt and a $3.75 pair of corduroys for him.

If you need baby clothes, there were quite a few 0-3 month sized long-sleeve onesies and shirts for $1.50. Half off, they’re just .75!

There were lots of deals on kids’ underwear, especially for sizes 6 and smaller. I saw multipacks of Hanes boys’ underwear for $4.48 – $2.24 after the 50% off!

In the men’s department, there was a large display of branded/logo T-shirts marked $2 – everything from Angry Birds to Budweiser to 7-Up. If you’re a fan of The Uncola, you can show the world how much you love it for a bargain $1!

There were several racks of clearance bras and panties in the women’s department. Most bras were marked $6 or less – just $3 after the discount. Panties were marked $3 or less, so $1.50 or less per pair.

We picked a two-pack up for $4.55 (about $2.28 per bra!) and three more for $2.50, $3, and $2.50. For my male readers, this may seem silly, but bras can be stupidly expensive. The Huffington Post advised women in an article today that “$50 is a good goal to spend on a bra.” (Are they crazy? We could have bought sixteen bras for that price! So we were excited about this deal.

And, I just had to share this “aftermath” photo from our day out. We’d been throwing our bags in the back seat as we drove from store to store, and when we got home..? Hey, I always say I do most of our family’s clothes shopping in January :)
