A clearance-shopping afternoon: Old Navy and Target

Last night, my daughter said the following words to me… “Mom, I want to go shopping.”

Well, how could I say no to that? She wanted to look for some new clothes, and I figured it would be a great time to look for some clothing clearances. And, she had a half-day off school because of junior-year finals, so she and I got to spend a rare mother-daughter day shopping together! She loves a bargain as much as I do.

First, we went to Old Navy (Algonquin, IL.) We’ve all been on clearance watch again, as this time in January is traditionally when Old Navy has noteworthy clearance sales. While the current sale is not 50% off clearance (meaning clearance is priced as marked, not half-off what’s marked), we still found some good buys. We were armed with a 20% Off your purchase printable, which is good on clearance items too.

At the front of the store, we saw a big display of 2-packs of stretchy gloves. These are .47 each – super cheap if you need gloves…

I always look for clothes for my boys, and there was a large display of $3.99 shirts on a table. With the 20% off coupon, these were $3.19. There was another rack of clearance clothes behind it.

I picked up these four shirts for $2.39, $2.79, $2.39 and $2.38, respectively. If you go, be prepared to dig around for the best prices, because the boys’ clearance rack looks like this:

$19.94 and $13.55 clearance pajamas are not a deal. $3.47-$3.99 shirts may be.

My daughter scored some finds in the juniors department:

Her four shirts and gloves were $3.19, $3.19, $1.98, $3.19, and .38 after the 20% coupon.

Other deals: We saw Muppet and Mario Bros. steel lunchboxes on clearance for $4.99 – $3.99 after coupon. There were many pairs of flip-flops on clearance near the junior girls’ clothing for $1.49 – $1.19 with coupon. (Hey, that’s almost as cheap as they are during Old Navy $1 Flip Flop Day, without the need to wait in crazy-long lines too.)

Then, we headed to Target. I saw lots of 50% and 70% off clearance clothing racks when I was clearance-toy shopping yesterday, but I didn’t have time to check out the clothing deals thoroughly. We found a few things…

My daughter picked up a cute dress and a denim shirt for $7.48 and $6.88, respectively. I bought a thermal shirt for my husband for $5.08, and an awesome skull knit sweater for my son for $5.08. (That’s a little more than I like to pay for my young kids’ clothes, but… it’s got a cool skull!)

Then we headed to Meijer, where we really scored some fantastic buys!
