Ever find yourself with expiring Extra-Care Bucks for CVS, with nothing in particular that you need to buy to use them up? Rolling your soon-to-expire ECBs into another deal that generates more ECBs is a great way to give yourself another month to match ECBs to new sales… and take home some inexpensive products in the process.
I had a $10 ECB expiring on July 3rd, and with nothing in particular that I absolutely needed, I wanted to roll them into another $10-generating ECB deal to extend the offer for another month. This week, Hawaiian Tropic sunscreens are part of a “Buy 2, Get $10 in ECBs” sale. I’m well-stocked on Coppertone sunscreen from last week’s crazy $1.29 deal at Walgreens, but all of the sunscreens in that deal were higher-SPF varieties. Those are great for all-day sun time, but sometimes a girl wants to get a little color too! I decided to put a deal together with some SPF 4 Hawaiian Tropics.
The 8-ounce bottles are on sale for $10.49. The 6/17 SS has a $1 coupon (and their site has a $1 printable too.)
Today’s new “Buy 1 Nivea, Get $2 in ECBs” seemed like a good item to work into the deal too. The small Nivea Creme tins are .99 each and generate $2 in ECBs… nice little moneymaker that I could later use to bring the cost of the sunscreen down! And, CVS quarterly ECB rewards are also printing this week, so make sure to scan your card at the Magic Coupon Machine to get those before you shop.
Here’s how the deal went:
Transaction #1:
Scanned my ExtraCare card and got $1 in quarterly ECBs.
Bought two Nivea Creme tins at .99 each (now $1.98)
Used $1 ECB, and with tax, paid $1.06.
I received $4 in ECBs for buying two Nivea.
Transaction #2
Bought two Hawaiian Tropic SPF 4s at $10.49 each (now $20.98)
Used two $1 manufacturer coupons (now $18.98)
Used $4 ECB from the Nivea in the previous transaction (now $14.98)
Used $10 ECB that I’ve been carrying around and was close to expiring (now $4.98)
With tax, I paid $6.61 and got $10 back in ECBs.
So, not a bad day… I spent $7.67 out of pocket and got another $10 back in Extra-Care bucks to carry over to next month. That drops each sunscreen to about $2.56 each… plus two free Nivea!

You are SO good at this!! When my husband jokes & says I cannot go to the stores that have ‘No Professional Shoppers Allowed’, I just chuckle and tell him that I’m no match for the ‘maven’! ;)

FYI, I just went to CVS today and purchased the nivia tins and no extrabucks printed out. I think they figured out that getting the $2 for a .99 product was not a good deal for them. Oh well,I should have gone earlier in the week.

I found somewhere (I think Wags) single sheet with 4 mfr Qs and one was $2/1 Hawaiian Tropic. Too bad you didn’t have two of those. :)
