I’m quoted in today’s Daily Herald, which has an article on expired coupons no longer being accepted at Jewel. (And yes, technically this changed a year ago, but the company is going to strongly enforce it starting May 1.)

I saw the postings in the store when I was in there as well. I thought I read somewhere that Dominick’s accepts coupons 6 months past their exp date. Is this true? If so, are they continuing this?

Did you read the comments below the article? As I was reading them, I kept thinking, “You people have NO clue as to what a bargain Jewel really is”.

I have been using expired coupons at Jewel for at least the last 10-15 years. This news has been devasting to me!!! I first read it here and then this week when I used an expired coupon at my Jewel, the employee checking me out told me about it too. This news has been terrible to swallow yet if it had to happen, at least it happened after I took Jill’s class. Of the 20 coupons I used at Jewel this week, only 3 were expired. I thank Jill for teaching me how to use my coupons better.
I do know that Dominicks still takes my expired coupons that are years past their expiration date. I used one the other day that expired in 2005. (Yes, I still use a big coupon organizer for my expired coupons.) Also, the Meijer by me also takes expired coupons and they don’t seem to care how old they are either. At times I have also had Target and Kmart take expired coupons from me too. All they will tell you is, “No. We can’t take this.” And maybe then they laugh at my once I walk out, but it doesn’t bother me. I feel that it is worth the try.
Thanks Jill for all that you do to help us save money!!!

The American Legion in Yorkville, IL will take coupons up to 4 months old and send them to the soldier’s families overseas to use. Anyone interested in donating coupons can e-mail me at mzzjudyb@aol.com for the address. Thanks to those who have already given, it was greatly appreciated.
