Welcome to all the new Super-Couponers who attended my Woodridge class this past weekend… and to all the readers who return each week for the deals too!
I’ll be surprised if I ever shop at Dominick’s again…
When I teach coupon classes, one of the questions that invariably comes up is “what do you do when a cashier won’t take your coupons?” The usual answer to that question is to familiarize yourself with the store’s coupon policy, which will specify exactly what kind of coupons the store will accept and how they can be used.

Another fabulous week of cheap and free groceries!
Starting at Jewel, my favorite store… Green Giant Steamers (frozen bagged vegetables) are on sale for $1.00. The 9/7 GM insert has coupons for $1.00 off. Enjoy some free vegetables! Who says couponing doesn’t give you healthy food to eat? Especially FREE healthy food :)
I’m in the Herald today!
A good clip: Local coupon mavens know how to make a deal
If today’s newspaper arrived with $30 tucked inside, would you toss the cash into the recycling bin?
Probably not. But Huntley mom Jill Cataldo and Barrington mom Amy Paulus say that’s exactly what many people are doing every week.

Tuesday is deal-day, but it’s also a birthday! I want to wish a very happy birthday to my sister Lynn today! Lynn loves the Kashi brand of healthy, organic cereals, so for her big day, here’s a great deal on Kashi:
Similar to last week’s Pop-Tart deal, Target is running a promotion on Kashi products. Kashi cereals, cookies, crackers, granola bars, and frozen meals are all on sale 4 for $11. And, for each 4 you buy, you will get a $5 gift card!

Did you notice there weren’t as many coupon inserts in the Sunday paper this week? Typically, the week after a holiday, there are either less or no coupon inserts in the paper at all – nor nearly as many good deals as the previous week.
This is because grocery stores (and coupon publishers) are aware of people’s shopping habits prior to a holiday. Whether it’s Labor Day weekend, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any other holiday, people typically shop a lot during the days before the holiday… and then they don’t shop much at all the next week, because there are typically lots of leftovers.
“Coupon class is a real keeper”
The Algonquin Countryside reviewed the Huntley coupon class in their 8/28 issue, and here are some highlights… Three of us went to the presentation called “Super Couponing” on Aug. 14 at Faith Community Church in Huntley. We were in good company–the place was packed. More than 160 people attended the class, which was “designed to […]
Freezer sales are up…
Today’s Chicago Tribune has a little story about more people buying freezers to stock up on food when prices are low. “Experts say consumers are trying to save money on food by buying in bulk.” That’s one of the biggest principles that I teach… stock up when the price is low! Now, if you come […]
It’s a great time to buy clothes too!
I know my blog is typically about groceries, but I thought I’d remind everyone that right now is a great time to shop summer clothes clearances! I love buying next-summer’s clothes for my kids right now when they are dirt, dirt cheap.
How cheap? Kohl’s & Carson Pirie Scott are having 80% off sales. Macy’s has 50% off the lowest clearance price, plus they have a coupon for an extra 15% off your entire purchase in today’s Tribune (yesterday’s too!)
My newest venture…
Can you believe I’m in the news again? I never knew I had so many supporters! A big thanks to Doug & Pete who sent this to me. I may not be President, but I will help you save a lot of money on your groceries! :) How’s that for a campaign promise?
