Bar-S foods announced that they are withdrawing a legitimate coupon offer due to widespread counterfeiting.
Earlier this year, Bar-S issued a limited number of $5.00 coupons for their products directly to a select number of consumers. The coupons were sent out via direct mail. But, according to a statement from Bar-S, “These counterfeit coupons are being illegally sold on eBay and other parts of the Internet. Bar-S Foods mailed the legitimate coupons directly to consumers. Individuals who are not on this mailing list have either received a counterfeit coupon or a coupon in violation of the terms & conditions printed on the coupon.”
It is rare for a company to completely withdraw a coupon, but in a case such as this, where there are likely more counterfeits circulating than legitimate versions of the coupon, a company may opt to protect itself and pull the coupon entirely.
If you do have a legitimate coupon, which you obtained from Bar-S (and not an online site or auction) you may return it to Bar-S for a replacement. The statement instructs shoppers: “Bar-S Foods does not authorize the sale of any of its coupons. Upon request and verification, Bar-S Foods will replace authentic, unaltered coupons with an item of equal or greater value. INDIVIDUALS AND INTERNET SITES ATTEMPTING TO REDEEM, TRANSMIT, AUCTION, POST, REPRODUCE, TRANSFER, BARTER OR SELL COUNTERFEIT COUPONS MAY BE SUBJECT TO CRIMINAL PROSECUTION AND/OR CIVIL ACTION.”
