Heads up, Illinois readers: Hands-free cellphone law begins 1/1/14

The new year is right around the corner, and with it comes a new hands-free cellphone law. The first-offense fine for using your phone is $75! Ouch.

So, I was looking for deals on Bluetooth devices this morning at Amazon. Here are some bargain-priced options I found:

 

I’ve never had (or used!) a Bluetooth headset yet, but in looking at reviews, the Samsung HM1300 Handsfree Bluetooth Headset looks like a good deal at $12.29 with pretty positive reviews.

Of course, if your cellphone has a speakerphone feature, you can also get a windshield mount for it. I’m not a huge fan of speakerphone quality. But, if you don’t mind, it’s certainly the cheapest way to go!

  1. I’ve been trying to get myself in the habit of putting in my Bluetooth as soon as I get in the car for the last week or so in preparation of the coming ‘deadline’.

    For what-its-worth, I have the next level up Bluetooth from Samsung (HM1700 vs. HM1300 listed above, but did NOT pay $50) and it works adequately enough. The charge seems to last awhile and pretty simple to use. It pairs with my iphone 4 automatically & quickly, which is nice. I also ordered a windshield holder late last week and expect it any day now, so I should be set! :)

  3. Did you ever get a blue tooth headset? I’m still just using the speaker phone but don’t like it.
