Legend has it the company name “Challenge” was selected by the first President of Challenge Cream and Butter Association, J.P. Murphy, as he traveled from the San Joaquin Valley to Los Angeles to begin his new assignment to sell cooperative butter. Over dinner, he studied a mural on the wall that showed two elk coming together to spar for the position of “king of the forest.” Under this mural were the words, “The Challenge.” At the time, Mr. Murphy felt that this was exactly what he and the dairymen he represented were trying to accomplish.   34. funny… no category for our family’s favorite holiday breakfast treat – Dutch Baby pancakes! The recipe I have has been handed down for at least 4 generations :o)

    I did manage to stock up on some of this butter at Dom’s intro price (I was stocking up on butter for baking) This butter did great in my bread and cookie recipes.

    I never seem to win these things, but what the heck, right?

  42. While being one comment out of many with a random number generator doesn’t really mean anything that I have to say is going to change anything, I figured that I would share a little anyway.

    My husband has a co-worker who has started doing some pretty serious couponing. I don’t actually know what she does or where she learned it, but I have been curious. With that, I am looking into everything and hoping that I can cut a food budget that is just huge down to something more reasonable while still feeding my family of four.

    This would be a nice way to start since I could always use some coupons, and I need to increase how much cooking and baking I do at home while working to eliminate (or mostly eliminate) our out of control eating out issues.

  121. When I was a little girl, my mom would let me eat the butter out of the little containers you get at a restaurant that come with your bread basket. On one occasion a woman at a table next to us asked my mother to please have me stop because I was making her sick! lol I love butter! :)

  318. as much as I have to watch cholesterol and fat grams, I still use butter instead of margarine or substitutes for the best tasting dishes and desserts. Will be baking approximately 1300 cookies this week. I better put some extra miles on my treadmill just in case.
