General Mills announces that its warehouse club 2-box packages of Cheerios have reduced the amount of air in each individual bag, allowing each box to fit 10% more cereal in than before while using less packaging.

The new 2-box Cheerios Club Packs are available at warehouse clubs around the country. But TWO lucky blog readers will each win TWO of these new Cheerios 2-packs (yes, that’s FOUR total boxes of Cheerios!) To enter, simply post a reply in the comments under this article! This Four Cheers for Cheerios Club Pack giveaway begins today, May 3rd, 2012, and runs for one week. The giveaway will end on May 9th, 2012 at 11:59pm CST, and on May 10th, two winners will be chosen via a random number generator!

  19. We started using Cheerios to train our new puppy….9 years later, she still loves them without all the extra calories and $. We put them in her treat ball and she rolls them around till they all fall out. As an added bonus we eat them too!

  65. My favorite cereal! I am definitely enjoying all of the new flavors they are putting out. Ever since I got my first 5 free boxes of the peanut butter multigrain kind from Jewel (the 1st time they ran double coupons), I’ve been hooked! I even added more storage in my kitchen today to help hold the 5 new boxes of cheerios (along with the 9 jars of ragu!). Thanks for the contests!

  71. The best way to eat Cheerios is to put a TON of sugar on them!!! At the end, you’re left with a big glob of sugar in the bottom of the bowl…LOL!!! :)

  77. It’s a staple in my house. This is all my 7 year old will eat. I would love to win and set him up with a great breakfast stash!

Stories like this always make me laugh! “Look at the trees we’re saving!” “Look how much less CO2 our distribution chain will produce!” Sure, those are nice things to be proud of, but don’t think for even one second that General Mills made these packaging designs with the customer’s or environment’s best interests in mind. The reality of the story is that they had a clever engineer who figured out that changing the packaging would make each box some fraction of a cent cheaper to produce, which over millions of boxes of food means a nice tidy little profit. If there was no substantial money savings, there would be no ” more environmentally friendly” packaging either. But then the marketing people have the gall to push this out as some “new and improved” version of the exact same thing? It’s almost as bad as when they shrink the size of a product and tell us the new sizing (at the same price) is “for the customer’s convenience.”

    That said…. hey, if they want to give away some free cereal, sure, I’ll take it in whatever size box.

  118. I love Cheerios! I use them in so many different ways. Breakfast with bananas or berries, a trail mix with variety of dried fruits and of course M&M’s for the kids snacks, mixed with melted marshmallows to make bars. So much can be done with them. And I like the low sugar count. Delicious!!

  127. My family of seven loves Cheerios! There is inevitably a Cheerio “stuck to the bottom of my foot!”

  130. My whole family eats cheerios every day. Although my kids like the peanut butter
    ones, I like the plain without all the sugar. Still, even the sweetened cheerios
    aren’t bad with only 9 grams of sugar unlike all those sugary “dessert” cereals that
    may contain up to 24 grams of sugar.

    With all the sweet tooth conditioning, no wonder there is such an increase in children’s diabetes!

    Also, cheerios aren’t just good for people – THEY’RE HEALTHY FOR FISH. My daughter has been feeding her two “carnival” goldfish one cheerio a day for almost the last three years! It’s much more convenient and cheaper than fish food.
