As I touched on in Monday’s Deals of the Week post, it’s been a great week for clearance toy and clothes shopping all over town! Hope you’ve all been out bargain-hunting and enjoying your finds!
As I discuss at great length in my Super-Couponing classes, both January and late July/early August are when many stores slash prices on both toys and clothing. On Sunday, we picked up some clothes at the Old Navy 50% off clearance summer sale. Not all Old Navy stores dropped (it’s not quite like the January Old Navy clearance where every single store drops at the same time) but Algonquin’s clearance was running, and my husband got some nice work shirts in the under-$3 range, as well as a $1.97 shirts for our boys. Many readers posted reports of $2 swim trunks and children’s clothes too.
As the week continued, my husband hit the 50% toy clearance at Kmart. All of their clearance toys were reduced an additional half off the sticker prices, and he was happy to find some Toy Story action figure 2-packs reduced to $1.10! (Hint – anything without a “Toy Story 3” logo on it is likely older stock — check things at the price scanner.) Our little guy loves his Toy Story playset that he got for his birthday (and that yours truly picked up for him during the 75% off Target toy clearance in January. Look at the regular price of this thing… $51.99. I paid $12 and change during the January clearance! And this was a great time to pick up more little figures for his set.)
Over at Meijer, we found more toys on clearance, including more reduced Toy Story figures, again in the older packaging — but to a child, Woody is still Woody, regardless of when he was put in the package. :) Meijer also had great clothing clearances going on. At the Algonquin Meijer, we noticed that almost everything in the boys’ department on a clearance rack marked 30% off was actually ringing up between 50%-70% off, so if you go, I’d suggest taking everything to the price scanner with you. We were pleasantly surprised to find:
- Disney Cars and Lego Star Wars-themed boys’ pajama sets — they are two-packs of short-sleeve, long-pants sets. These scanned at $5, so $2.50 per pair
- Hoodie sweatshirts for $2.50
- Long-sleeve layered tees for $2
- Windbreakers for $5
- Boys’ jeans for $5
- 3-packs of Hot Wheels and G.I. Joe boys’ underwear for $1.99
Over at Target, the 75% toy clearance appears to be in effect now at all stores (we visited Algonquin and Dundee.) We picked up Matchbox and Hot Wheels car sets for under $3, as well as the large Circo train sets shown in the top photo of this story. (These are compatible with Thomas the Tank Engine tracks, and at 75% off, these large building-and-two-train sets dropped from $19.99 to $4.98 – a steal.)
Clothes is in full swing at Target too! Many shoes and sandals are 75% off in all departments – we grabbed sandals for the boys in the $2-$4 range (and Mom got a new pair for under $5 too!) All clothing departments had clearance racks set up too for 30%, 50%, and 75% off clothes. These 3-piece pajama sets (t-shirt, tank top and shorts) were reduced to $2.61 and $3.74. We paid $1.98-$3.74 for the shirts and shorts.
If you’re out shopping, feel free to share your finds too! I ran into several blog readers last night who were pushing carts full of toys and clothes — one said to me “I’m Christmas shopping in July!” And why not? When toys are 75% off, that’s the SMART thing to do :)
