Meijer’s “Buy 10 for $10, get the 11th item FREE” sale is back! Note that because Meijer doesn’t allow you to use a coupon on a free item, the 11th participating item the cashier scans at the checkout lane IS your free item. So, pay attention to the order you put things on the belt if you plan to use coupons on your 10-for-$10 items. Making your 11th item produce or something non-coupon is the easiest way to make sure everything scans correctly.

Jill, the last time I bought items for the B10G1FREE sale at Meijer, I noticed that any item that I had a coupon for was moved to become the free item. If I first put 10 boxes of tissues on the conveyor belt and wanted to get a bag of pretzels as my free 11th item because I had coupons for the tissues, the register automatically switched the order of items so I “paid” for the bag of pretzels and they used the coupon towards my tissues first, then subtracted what remained off my free item.

I was surprised and frustrated with this, and wanted to get your thoughts on this potential work around. What if I were to not use any coupons at all when checking out, but still made sure my 11th item was what I wanted for the freebie. Then after the transaction, I go to customer service with all my coupons and the receipt and then redeem them all that day with the customer service rep?

I do realize that coupons are a privilege and not a right, but it’s frustrating when they change how they do things all of a sudden. Any advice or insight you can provide is appreciated! :)
