Reader Sheila sent over a Weight Watchers coupon with yet another case of unusual coupon wording and terms. This Weight Watchers coupon states “If you acquired this coupon from another person it is void. If you attempt to transfer this coupon, you are voiding the coupon.”
If your newspaper carrier hands your paper to you, and this coupon’s inside… is it void? If you get this coupon from a “sample station” display in a store, and the person handing out cereal samples also hands this to you? Technically, by its own terms, it’s void.

So…My husband and I attend Weight Watcher meetings at our local community center, and they hand out coupons for WW products, of course. And if I’m home when the mail comes, I open the door and just take the daily delivery from the postman, including any magazines, like WW, that has coupons in it! All those coupons are now void!

Does the CIC also consult on coupon language? So, if the paper is on my driveway in the morning and I pick it up, it shouldn’t be void, right? Technically, I didn’t acquire it firsthand from a person. Stupid. Pretty soon, couponing is going to be like doing taxes. A lot of circular and/or nonsensical language.

I object! Tax instructions make total sense. It’s the laws that they are based on that are idiotic and make filing needlessly complicated.
