The Coupon Information Center has issued a new public service announcement regarding counterfeit printable coupons featuring QR codes. Click to read it. The PSA features an image of a printable coupon with a QR code.
What’s interesting about this is that most coupons do not feature QR codes on them. It seems to be an attempt to make the counterfeit coupons appear more legitimate.
The CIC’s PSA states, “When scanned, the QR code reads as follows: ***VERIFIED AUTHENTIC*** by Coupon Information Corporation’s coupon verification system.”
Well, the Coupon Information Center doesn’t have an authentication or verification system that involves QR codes..!
The PSA continues to state “ALL COUPONS BEARING THE ABOVE QR CODE ARE COUNTERFEIT.”
This is especially important for my readers who work in retail stores — if you’re a cashier or associate at a store that accepts coupons, you may want to print a copy of the PSA and keep it in your store for reference.

I’m very confused. I thought they WERE the ‘final word’ on coupons and authenticity-why the double-talk and misinformation???
