CVS/pharmacy to phase out Green Bag Tags

Familiar with the CVS/pharmacy Green Bag Tag? It’s a little leaf-shaped tag with a bar code on it, which you attach to a reusable bag. When you use your shopping bag, your CVS cashier scans the tag. On every fourth CVS visit, you receive $1 in ExtraBucks, and you can scan the tag once per day.

After a couple readers mentioned they heard rumblings of Green Bag Tag program changes, I reached out to CVS, and here’s their response:

CVS/pharmacy will be phasing out the Green Bag Tag program later in 2013 in order to focus on other environmental initiatives which we believe will have a greater impact on our local communities. Specific information on timing and future plans will be announced at a later date. While the Green Bag Tag is no longer for sale in our stores, current cardholders can continue to use their cards until the official end of the program. We will be contacting customers who are actively using the program with more details in the near future.

If you have a Green Bag Tag, you can continue using it until the program ends.
