Back in April, I spotted a nine-ounce bottle of Dawn dish detergent that was marked “Trial Size.” This struck me funny, because there are plenty of other scents and varieties of Dawn, also available in nine-ounce bottles, that are not “Trial Size.” How can one nine-ounce item be trial size, but another, identically-sized bottle from the same brand, not be trial sized?
The Dawn coupons that Procter & Gamble issues are not valid on “Trial Size” bottles, which meant that shoppers encountered an odd situation with some nine-ouncers being couponable products, while others could not be purchased with a coupon. I reached out to Procter & Gamble, who clarified that indeed, some nine-ounce Dawn varieties were considered trial and others were not.
I’ve got another update on Dawn from P&G that I’m excited to share with you. P&G has shared with me that on Friday, July 23rd, all former “Trial Size” Dawns will no longer be considered trial size. Soon, you’ll see those varieties on the shelves without the yellow “Trial Size” label. Once the new bottles show up, you can use Dawn coupons on them. You heard it here first! This should make for some great deals at the dollar stores and during sales too!
Do keep in mind that coupons should not be used on the old-stock bottles that still state “Trial Size” — cashiers will have every right to deny a coupon that prohibits trial sizes on a bottle labeled “Trial Size.”
Of course, if you’re a grocery geek like me, you might want to grab one of the former trial-sized-labeled Dawns just for fun.
(Hey, I’m still hanging onto a sheet of printable Pampers coupons for the same reason. Remember, up until a couple years ago, there were no printable coupons for Procter & Gamble products — they simply didn’t issue printables. The day those appeared on Coupons.com, I thought “Whoa..!” and printed them right away. They’re still somewhere in my desk drawer as a reminder of how times have changed!)
