“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations are in the process of updating their cash registers to a new system. If your store has updated to the new registers, and you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed, and the Sept. 2011 coupon policy is still correct for all stores. Watch your registers.
HAM DEALS: Jewel has coupons for $10 off any brand bone-in, spiral, shank or butt portion ham with a separate $25 purchase. You must reach $25 not including the ham’s price, and after ALL coupons. The coupon is in both the Sunday Jewel ad and on the front page of Sunday’s Chicago Tribune.
However, a better way to do ham deals this week at Jewel would be to use the Dominick’s ham coupon in their ad. The Dominick’s coupon is good for any Safeway spiral, bone-in, whole, shank half or rump half hams and is $10 off a $25 purchase, but their coupon does NOT exclude coupons, nor is it a “separate” $25 purchase (meaning, the price of the ham can help you get to $25.)
Jewel will accept this coupon under the “Competitor Store Coupon” portion of their coupon policy. If you plan to utilize this though, keep in mind that you will have to buy a Jewel-brand ham, not any other brand.

Skipping the Dove instant-savings deal this week as there don’t appear to be any standouts… ditto on the P&G Catalina. If you decide to do it, it is a “Spend $20, get $5.” The $20 is calculated AFTER manufacturer coupons, and the coupons are in the new 4/1 PG. Some Pepsi products and beverages are included here, and I wanted to see better prices/deal on the Diet Pepsi as there’s a nice .55 coupon in the 3/18 SS. But again… not much to write home about here.

Taste of Home FREE Cookbook, 5-cup Rice Cooker and 12-quart Tamale Steamer P&G Promotion
Jewel is running an “A Taste Of Home” mail-in promotion on P&G products. Buy $25 worth of P&G products in one transaction and receive a 2-piece cookware set and one cookbook of your choice via mail (view ad here.)
The cookware is a 12-quart tamale steamer, a 5-cup rice cooker, and one of the following cookbooks: “Fresh Mexico,” “Latin Grilling,” or “Cocina Cubana.” $25 worth of goods must be purchased in the same transaction, and you must submit a receipt from the same store you found the forms in (must be from Jewel – cannot use a Dominick’s receipt, etc.)
The offer runs through 4/30/12. Look for the forms for this rebate in Spanish/Latino Jewel locations.
The form for this offer is online too on another store’s website. Several readers called the number on the form and were told that printable versions would be accepted.
UPDATE! On 2/11, I received my A Taste of Home package. It contained the rice cooker, the “Latin Grilling” cookbook I chose, and a note stating that due to overwhelming demand, the tamale steamer will not be available until June 2012, so it will ship separately.

Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad | Load “Schnupons” ecoupons
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. I have had some readers from DeKalb write and ask if these deals will also apply to their store. In looking at both ads, SOME of the deals are the same, but Rockford at times has a Hilander-specific wraparound that isn’t a part of the DeKalb Schnucks ad. Remember too that the DeKalb store does not double coupons.
The current ad is good through TUESDAY, April 10th! (LONG AD this week.)
NEW: Schnuck’s has introduced Schnupons — ecoupons for Schnuck’s stores accessible via your smartphone! Click the link to sign up and load them.

Allegra Allergy 5ct. is on sale for $6.49. Use the $7 coupon from the 4/1 SS and get it FREE!

Garnier sure is on sale this week! Over at CVS, it’s also part of a “Spend $15, Get $5 in ECBs” sale. Over here though, your best bet is going to be on the Garnier Herbashine hair color, which I’m a big fan of. It’s on sale for $4.99. The 3/4 RP has a $3 coupon!
Now, the ECB deals at CVS usually trigger a few pennies under the $15 threshold. If this one does too (and I am wrapping this week’s deals up at a crazy 5:07am, so I haven’t been out to test it) then this should trigger with three Herbashines. So…
Buy 3 Herbashines ($14.97). Use three $3 coupons (now $5.97.) Pay $5.97 and get $5 back in ECBs, making this .97 for THREE, or about .32 each!
If it does not trigger, add one more Herbashine ($19.96.) Use four $3 coupons (now $7.96.) Pay $7.96 and get $5 back in ECBs, making these $2.96 for four, or .74 each! Still a super deal!
There’s a “Spend $30, get 2 free boxes of cereal” promotion in the new ad, but this isn’t nearly as exciting as the “Spend $30, Get $10” unfortunately…
SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY ONLY: Scan your CVS ExtraCare card at the coupon center in store for a special $2-off-$10 store coupon for Easter products!
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
12-packs of Coca-Cola products are $2.50 each, limit 4.
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Thanks for the deals, Jill! You totally April fooled my friend who texted me last night in panic mode that you were no longer posting deals! Meijer has the Johnsonville Breakfast Sausage on sale for $2.00, making them 1.25 after the .75 coupon. They have the Land O Lake buter on sale for $2.50. After the $1.00 coupon it is cheaper than the Meijer brand.

I’m new to couponing and am trying to figure out how these E-coupons work. It looks like you don’t get the cost off at the register, but it goes towards a gift card. Is that correct and can someone explain it further?

Save an extra $2 when you buy four pks of Coke products. Use the Man Q located on the inside of the Wednesday Joseph’s ad.
@ Dominicks, $12.58 – $2Q = $10.58/4 = $2.65/12pk + free crackers
@ Walgreens, $14 – $2Q = $12/5 (b4g1f with store Q) = $2.40/12pk
@ Jewel, $11 – $2 Q = $9/4 = $2.25/12pk
@ Meijer, 2-24pks (=to 4-12pks) for $11 – $2Q = $9/4 = $2.25/12pk
@ CVS, 4 x 2.50 = $10.00 – $2Q = $8/4 = $2/12pk.

I think I may have had my best trip ever today. With coupons, saving star, avenu, preferred savings, and OYNO cats, I saved more than I spent. Now, I still spent about $92, but I saved $101. No, still not walking out with a zero balance, but it’s getting there. Baby steps! BTW: Jewel Wild Harvest lemonade is UBER yummy. Real sugar, not corn syrup, with just the right amount of pucker power! And, it’s still B1G1F!!!!!

at Walgreens is $1.99. Use the 2 $1 coupons from the 3/25 SS to make them $.99. Not a bad deal and I really like the cinnamon sugar variety. Makes for a ‘not-too-bad-for-you’ dessert or snack.

I don’t know why I bother going to Dominicks. My receipt is wrong 9 out of 10 times. I did not get the $10Q for spending $75 or the $5 off freezer item even though they say it is still on till 4/4. I spent way over $10. I didn’t get my just for you free orchard bar and it also said others priced at 50 cents. I had lucerne shredded cheese on mine for $4.90 and was charged 9.99. It looked like it took all my coupons but Jell0 pudding one not taken off. I questioned about the orchard bar to make sure I bought the right ones and the cashier couldn’t tell. She asked me if it was a coupon or JFU and I said JFU. I said I had it on my iPhone and she said I needed to print it out. What’s the point of emailing it to save paper. I left and checked my receipt at home to find out all these mistakes. When i try to go back on their website to print it out it keeps shutting me out.
I was saving all my receipts that were wrong and going to send them to corporate. Is there any other way they can make it more difficult to use their website and use their savings card?
I’ve had cashiers telling me yes all your coupons are going through and none had. I then told her they weren’t coming off and she said that’s because it was expired. I asked for them back and they weren’t expired so had to visit the service desk again. I had a cashier hide coupons and not scan them all. I try to add them all and subtract from total to make sure they got them all. What other lies can they make up. A smile and asking do you need help to your car 5 times during one transaction is not going to cut it. Any suggestions?
pryncessjacquie says
There’s a $1.00 mfg coupon in the 4/1 RP to use with the $5/2 Target Beauty Tools coupon. Make getting a little more expensive item free.
leeanddeb says
I went to Wags today and got 6 of the Garnier shampoos at 2/$5. That brought me to $15. I used 6 $1 off coupons. No Register Rewards printed. I took it to the manager and he said that the $15 purchase is based on post coupon amount when using the manufacturers coupons. So that would mean that I would need to buy 10 bottles at this price if I want to use more coupons (but only have .75 ones left) and the deal is certainly not as good.
Any feedback on what is happening here? Are they too going the way of Jewel with the post coupon addition?
This is getting really difficult to navigate.
Thanks so much for all the work you put into this.
ChiTownSaver says
Has anyone else had problems with the 5.00 coupon scanning? I used one a week ago, and it went through fine.
Last night I tried to use 2/5.00 (newspaper) plus 2 of the 1.00 mfg Revlon coupons on 4 items and had a big hassle. The cashier told me since it says ‘one per purchase’ I could only use one at a time. I tried to explain the transaction vs purchase lingo but the manager on duty still said one per transaction, so I did two.
Neither my 1.00 or 5.00 coupon went through and my items were:
2.99 , 3.19 1st transaction
3.19 and 3.19 for second transaction
Both which would have been 1 target 5.00 and 1/ 1.00 mfg so there is no way it would go over the total but it kept saying one or more item not purchased
So a 1.00 mfg catalina pops out for Revlon beauty tool, and on the picture is what I was buying, so I asked her to use that instead of my newspaper coupon and low and behold, that did not scan either! It still kept saying ‘item not purchased’.
They pushed them through, but it is so weird how at one Target it worked fine, and another it did not.
These were two different Targets (the one that worked last week is my regular target and the one I went to last night was in the city that I happened to be near when I went to a show)
Also, my Dora DVD coupon did not scan right from coupons.com but they pushed it through. I went in Monday to get it and the guy said they got cleared out Sunday and the one in the city happened to have one left on the shelf.

Had problems with the Garnier RR at Wags. Took a LONG time with clerk and supervisor. As mentioned before, they entered the product, then my coupons and NO RR! Said I had to buy more as they go by price after the coupons. Then they also scanned in my prior RR as if they were manufacturers coupons, so I had to buy more! you got it, I ended up with over $23 to get the $5 RR. I should have left without the purchase and start over, but it was the last day of the RR. What an introduction to coupons etc. Hope it’s more successful in the future; I’m sure it will be.
