Hello, Super-Couponers! Happy Easter to you and your friends and family. As I would love to spend the day with mine, I’ve got a bonus for you… Deals of the Week, one day early! It’s normal to expect a lighter week of sales around a holiday, and we’re definitely seeing that this week, but there are still some great buys to enjoy.
It’s time for Deals of the Week once again. I’ve got all the best supermarket and drugstore deals of the week written just for you… all in one place, on one page! As always, grab your scissors and coupon inserts, and get ready to start clipping this week, as bunches of bargains and freebies are heading your way!
As I am based in Chicagoland, the supermarkets I write about are the major ones for our market. However, many of these deals will be applicable at stores around the country within the same parent chain:
- The Jewel-Osco deals may be applicable at Albertson’s, Shaws, Acme, Cub, and other SuperValu-owned stores
- The Dominick’s deals may be applicable at Safeway, Vons, Carr’s, Randall’s Genuardi’s, Tom Thumb, and other Safeway-owned stores
- The Hilander deals may be applicable at Kroger, Ralph’s, Fred Meyer, Dillon’s, City Market, King Soopers, and other Kroger-owned stores
The Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally.
This week’s newspaper contained NO coupon inserts (Easter holiday. If you’d like more information on why this is, you can learn more here.) But, if you’ve been Super-Couponing for awhile, you’ve got a nice library of inserts to draw from for this week’s sales. The Parade magazine has a $2 Cover Girl foundation coupon in it, so grab it if you want it.

“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, you do need to be getting the paper with the “best,” highest-value coupons.)

Jewel-Osco information:
Jewel-Osco has a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there.
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list yet? Jewel has been making coupons available for many different products over the past few months, and they’re usually store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with too.
Coupon books currently found at Jewel:
Fresh & Fun Celebration – Small book with coupons for $2 off any 1lb. or larger Stockman & Dakota Premium Angus Beef package; $2 off any 1 to 2lb. bag of Arctic Shores shrimp, and $2 off any Hormel Party Tray (all expire 7/15/11.)
Smart Easy Spring Cleaning – Coupons for SC Johnson cleaning products (Windex, Pledge, Scrubbing Bubbles.)
Jewel meat deals:
- Jewel chicken drumsticks or thighs are .99/lb.
- Jewel split chicken breasts are $1.49/lb.
- Jennie-O fresh hen or tom turkeys are $1.79/lb.
- Jennie-O bone-in turkey breast is $1.99/lb.
- Always a deal: Jewel-Osco has 1lb. chub packs of Carolina Ground Turkey in the freezer case for around $1.69, every day, at most locations.
Jewel seafood deals:
- Ocean Market Seafood Portions (4oz.) are on sale for $1 each – that’s $4/lb.
Jewel produce deals:
- 3lb. bags of Farm Stand yellow onions are $1 – that’s about .34/lb!
- 5lb. bags of Farm Stand red, gold or russet potatoes are $2.49 – that’s about .50/lb.
- Sweet potatoes are .79/lb.
- Green beans are .99/lb.
- Broccoli crowns or cauliflower are $1.29/lb.
- 1lb. packages of strawberries are $3.99, B1G1F – buy two, and they’re about $2/lb.
- Whole pineapples are $1.99 each – GREAT price!
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less for fish or shrimp.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s (View weekly ad)…
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, support for previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also now load these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?
In the April 21-April 27 flyer – “Low Prices” on cover:
- Cascade dishwasher detergent (45-75oz. liquid or 16-20ct. Action Pacs) are $3.99 each, limit 2, with Super Coupon. Use the $1 coupons (there are 2!) in the 2011 P&G Everyday Savings coupon book (home mailer) and pay $2.99! There’s also a $1-off-2 coupon in the 4/3 PG and .50 Cascade coupons in the “Home Made Simple” coupon books (also home mailers) either of which will result in $3.49 Cascade.
- All Laundry Detergent (32-50oz.) and Snuggle Fabric Softener (32oz. or 70-80ct. sheets) are on sale for $3.49 each, limit 2, with Super Coupon. Use the $1 All coupon from 4/10 RP and pay $2.49! Use the .75 Snuggle coupon from 4/10 RP and pay $2.74.
Just For U ecoupons on Dominicks.com worth checking out: Look through your offers for any FREE products. Over the past few weeks, many readers (and myself!) have found ecoupons for random free products in Just For U.
Little card deal: Dominick’s is offering $2 off your shopping trip (I’m assuming this is an instant-savings) when you buy 3 Hallmark cards. .99 cards are excluded from this particular offer, as are boxed cards. The offer is also limit 1 per transaction.
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
“Buy 2, Get 1 Free” Bright Green Products Sale Bright Green is Dominick’s house brand of environmentally-friendly products. We typically only see this sale once a year, so if you like any of these items, many of which are dye and fragrance-free, this is a great opportunity to stock up. Last week’s ad says this sale ends 4/20, but shelf tags state that the sale runs through 4/27. Here are your products and prices. Prices were gathered at the Carpentersville, Illinois store on 4/17/11. Bright Green All Purpose Dilutable Cleaner 32oz. – $3 Bright Green All Purpose Lemon Spray Cleaner 32oz. – $3 Bright Green Bathroom Tissue – 6 rolls – $3.99 Bright Green Bathroom Spray Cleaner – $2.99 Bright Green Chlorine-free Color-Safe Bleach – $1.99 Bright Green Dishwasher Detergent Packs 60ct. – $11.89 Bright Green Dishwasher Rinse Aid (16oz.) – $6.99 Bright Green Dishwashing Liquid – 24oz. – $2.99 Bright Green Fabric Softener (plant-based, lavender) – $4.99 Bright Green Glass Cleaner 32oz. – $3 Bright Green Napkins 200ct. – $1.99 Bright Green Non-Aerosol Furniture Polish – $3.50 Bright Green 45ct. Kitchen Trash Bags – $6.29 Bright Green Laundry Detergent – 52-load – $9.99 (150oz. bottle, $13.99) Bright Green Paper Towels – 6 rolls – $4.99 Bright Green Toilet Bowl Cleaner 24oz. – $2.49 |
Deal ideas…
Nothing is super-cheap here, but these are your best bets:
– 3 Bright Green 200ct. Napkins will cost $3.98 = about $1.33 each.
– 3 Bright Green Color-Safe Bleach will cost $3.98 = about $1.33 each.
– 3 Bright Green Toilet Bowl Cleaners will cost $4.98 = $1.66 each.
– 3 Bright Green Fabric Softeners will cost $9.98 = about $3.33 each. Plant-based softeners rarely go on sale, so this is a fair price.
– 3 Bright Green Dishwasher Rinse Aids will cost $13.98, or $4.66 each — but they are BIG, 16oz. bottles. If you missed the super-cheap Jet Dry earlier this year, considering that’s about what the 8oz. bottles cost when they’re not on sale – this is also a fair price. I did this deal last year in the absence of other rinse aid deals, and for a store-brand product, it worked fine.
If you have any Catalina coupons for $1 off Bright Green products, don’t forget to use them. In past years, we’ve also seen $1 store coupons for Bright Green pop up in the ad and as ecoupons around Earth Day. This sale runs through 4/27, so any coupons that turn up will only make it better.
“Buy 3, Save $3” Dominick’s is running a “Buy 3, Save $3” sale on Dove and Axe (through 5/10.) Excludes all trial, travel, and 1ct. Dove Beauty Bars. And, though it’s not shown in the ad, Axe products are included in this deal too but not shown in this week’s flyer! Product list and prices were collected at the Carpentersville, Illinois Dominick’s on 4/17/11. Prices shown are AFTER $3 instant savings. You must buy in quantities of 3 to receive these prices. Here are your products and matchups: Axe Body Spray – $3.49 Axe Body Spray Twin Pack – $7.49 Axe Deodorant – $2.99 Axe Shampoo – $3.99 Axe Shower Gel – $3.99 Axe Hair Putty – $4.99 Dove Beauty Bar 2ct. – $2.49 Dove Beauty Bar 6ct. – $5.99 Dove Body Wash – $5.99 Dove Deodorant or Body Mist – Deodorant – $1.99, Body Mist – $2.99 Dove Hair Care 12oz – $2.99, 25.4oz – $4.99 Dove Men + Care Body and Face Bar 6ct. – $5.99 Dove Men + Care Body and Face Wash or Clean Shower Tool (could not locate product in store) Dove Men + Care Deodorant $3.99 |
If you haven’t yet signed up for the “Just For U“ electronic discounts that you can load to your Dominick’s Fresh Values card, you may want to. For registering your card, you’ll receive an ecoupon for a FREE 12-ct. Lucerne large eggs! You’ll also activate a set of electronic discounts that are tied to your card for the next 90 days. Each person’s discounts are different, and they’re based on past purchases made with your Fresh Values card at Dominick’s.
Coupon booklets currently found at Dominick’s
Note that this is a listing of what you MAY find. Coupon books tend to move very quickly once they become available! Look on displays throughout the store to find them. Some Dominick’s are now keeping these coupon books behind the Customer Service counter, so you may want to ask at your store.
$42 Frozen Food Coupons – Just as the title says, it contains $42 worth of coupons for frozen food.
Dominick’s meat deals:
- Fresh Safeway whole chickens are $1.29/lb.
- Honeysuckle bone-in frozen turkey breast is $1.29/lb.
- Jennie-O fresh turkey (10-24lbs.) is $1.49/lb.
Want FREE marinade? Many Dominick’s will marinate your fresh meat free at the meat counter, so depending on what you’re buying, you may want to take advantage of that.
Dominick’s produce deals:
- Large sweet potatoes are .99/lb.
- Broccoli crowns are .99/lb.
- 3lb. containers of strawberries are $4.88 each – that’s about $1.63/lb.
- Green onions or red radishes are .10 each
- Ears of sweet yellow or bi-color corn are 3-for-$1.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area: (View weekly ad)…
Reader SkinCareKathy spotted a good deal on Biz laundry powder! It’s on price-cut through 5/1 for $2.99 each. Use the $1.50 coupon from the 4/17 SS and pay $1.49! Reader Couponbug also notes that there’s a $2 printable for any Biz that knocks this to .99! Nice prices all around.
Johnsonville Breakfast sausage links or patties (12oz.) are $2 each. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 from 4/17 SS1. You’ll pay $3 for 2, or $1.50 each – a very good price!
Nestle Toll House Morsels (11-12oz.) are on sale for $2. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 coupon from 4/10 SS. You’ll pay $3 for 2, or $1.50 a bag! There’s also a $1-off-3 printable here for more cheap morsels.
Here’s an okay deal on Maxwell House Coffee (but I’m blogging the “okay” deals too, as the price of coffee is on the rise…) 31.5-34.5oz. containers of Maxwell House are on sale for $7.79 each. When you buy 2, you’ll get a $3 Catalina for your next shopping trip. Use the $1-off-2 coupon from 4/17 SS1 or May All You. Pay $14.58 and get $3 back — ultimately, $11.58, or $5.79 per container.
Reddi-Wip whipped cream (6.5-7oz.) is on sale for $1.89. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 coupon from the ConAgra “Rediscover Family” coupon book. You’ll pay $2.78 for two, or $1.39 per can.
Splenda sweetener is a super-hot deal at Walgreens this week, but if they’re out of stock, reader Twinmom407 posted another way to do the deal at Meijer. She writes that 100ct. Splenda is on sale for $3.59 each. Use the $3 coupon from 4/17 SS1 and pay .59 per package.
But, of course, the deal gets better. Splenda is also part of a national Catalina deal. Buy 2 packages and get $3 back. Buy 3 and get $4 back. (Buy in twos for the best moneymaker here if you have even numbers of $3 coupons – but either way, it’s FREE and a moneymaker!)
Splenda’s site also has $1 and $2 printable coupons.
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
Pepperidge Farm Goldfish are on sale 3-for-$5, or $1.67 a bag. Best price we’ve seen in awhile.

Are you a Meijer Mperks member yet? Mperks is a different set of electronic Meijer coupons. They’re attached to your cellphone number, but aside from one text message to activate your account, you do not need to use text messaging to continually use them. Once you register with Meijer Mperks, you log into the Mperks website and click the electronic coupons you’d like to load to your account. Then, when you’re at the checkout, type your cellphone number into the keypad at the register, and your coupons come off automatically.

Meijer produce deals:
- Fresh green or white asparagus is $1.48/lb.
- 1lb. containers of strawberries are $1.50 each
- Whole pineapples are $1.97 each
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
This is a good week for pricematching at Walmart if you CANNOT find:
– Allegra at Jewel (take Jewel ad to Walmart to price-match)
– Splenda at Walgreens (take Wags ad to Walmart to price-match – you won’t get the Catalinas, but it will be free.)
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Reader ktcat777 reports that Women’s Nivea body wash IS $3 at Walmart. With the $3 coupon from the 4/17 RP2, it’s FREE!
Here’s a deal on Olivari Olive Oil! 22.5oz. bottles (big bottles!) are on sale for $8.15 at most stores. (Remember, regular prices can vary depending on location.)
Print this Buy One, Get One Free coupon, and you’ll take two bottles home for a little over $4 each.
(Note that this particular B1G1F coupon truly does ring off BOTH bottles of Olivari, and a $1 coupon cannot be used on the first bottle (the “Buy 1” bottle) in this scenario.
FREE Gain Dish Detergent: The P&G $110 Everyday Savings coupon mailer contains two current coupons for $1 off Gain Dish Detergent. Walmart sells Gain for .97 (exp. 4/30/11, 6/30/11)
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.” I have heard from one reader who used a $3 Register Reward on a $2.49 copy of All You magazine and DID receive change, in cash.
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
Will I blog Walmart in its entirety each week?
I will not be blogging entire writeups for Walmart each week. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.
However, if there IS an ad with noteworthy sales or I’m aware of great coupon matchups, you’ll find those here too.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

I see the Similac on the list as being part of the $30/$10 cat deal at Jewel, but I didn’t see it on the UPC list initially. Is Similac formula part of the deal? If Similac is, is Enfamil as well? I’ve got some Enfagrow checks that would make that a sweet deal if it is!

Meijer has Bagel Bites 18ct on sale for $2 each or 9 ct for $1.50. I still had coupons from Family Circle or other magazines from last fall for $1 off any size so a great deal – looks like coupon.com has printable – i didn’t try it. Also the Wheat Thins are on sale for 3 for $5 (1.67), it includes the Wheat Thin Crunch Stix so if you don’t want to buy 10 of something at Jewel use the $1 off coupon from 4/17SS and get them for 67 cents at Meijer.
Happy Easter!

I am new to all of this and had a question for you experts. I went to Walgreens this week and last week and had problems using coupons. Today I bought the Splenda and was only allowed to get two boxes. Is that because the price of the coupon was more than what they we selling it for? I also had other things in my cart so I thought the other things I bought would have made up for the difference. It also happened last week when I bought the Air Wicks for 4.00 and had the $4 coupon. The register would only take 2 of the coupons. Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Does anyone know if the Hilander deals work at Foods For Less, I know they sell a lot of Kroger products and was wonderinf if they are Kroger owned?
J.R. says
I just picked up an 8# bag of russet potatoes at Joe Caputos (Algonquin, Palatine, DesPlaines) for $1.98, less than 25 cents a pound. Better than Jewel’s price.
They also had ground sirloin for $2.99, ground chuck for $1.69 a pound, and boneless turkey breast for $2.99 a pound.
Nutella was on sale for $2.50 a jar. Couple that with the $1.00 coupon on the 3.27 RP and it’s $1.50.
Pepsi is 4 12packs for $10, must buy 4. Not the best deal, but not bad.

Nivea lip care is on sale for .99 and there’s a printable coupon on coupons.com out there for $2 off 2 which means FREE!
dancingwolves says
FYI checked and they are not part of the .99 sale.
Maybe because they are now considered a “professional” variety and a larger bottle.

I can’t seem to find the Carolina Ground Turkey frozen chubs. I’ve looked in the freezer cases by the meat in a couple different Jewels. Can anyone clue me in to the exact location of the turkey?

There is a $1.00 off 2 Edy’s slow churned shakes or smoothies in the 4/17 Redplum. This would make the sale at Jewel 2/$3.00

Meijer’s (McHenry County) has B1G1 30 oz (this is a size I haven NOT seen before) for $3.00 ($1.50 each) AND they let me use the .50-off-2 from 3/27 RP” that Jill mentioned. Even though it was the “Men’s Suave” product, Meijer let me use the coupon. I asked first since I wasn’t sure if I could use it (just learning this couponing thing). Anyway, got 30 oz for $1.25 – or .62 per 15 oz) instead of .74 for 15 oz.

We were completely out of napkins, so I went to the CL Dominick’s to get the Bright Green napkins. They rang up at $1.99, but not Buy 2 Get 1 free. Just a heads up for anyone else trying.

Is, as usual, distinguishing itself in lack of product on their shelves during its sales. Please, save your time and gas $$$, they do not have any Splenda and will not have any before Sunday at the earliest – if even then. They also do not have any Luster White Toothpaste nor any 3M Nexcare bandages (20-30packs). In fact, they only just started carrying the 3M Nexcare products and only have three out of six products in the line. And none of the three that are actually in stock are in the sale. I’ve been there three times…Sunday, Monday and today.
Also, Meijer in McHenry just jacked up their gas prices at 3 PM today to $4.26 a gallon (from $4.06 yesterday!) so please DO NOT FILL UP THERE. Just down the street is Bucky’s (used to be Mobil on the corner of McCullom Lake Road and Route 31) and their gas is still $4.05 a gallon. We’re talking unleaded here, by the way. If I could have seen the sign at Bucky’s before I filled up at Meijer I would have NEVER bought gas there!
P.S. Fill up? Did I say fill up? Silly me! Who can afford to actually fill up? I only put $10 in and even that hurt!
wireman1979 says
There is still no Splenda at the Walgreen’s in McHenry. But there is Splenda at the Meijer. I got the 3.8 oz boxes as they were out of the 100 count envelope boxes and besides; the 3.8 oz. boxes were actually 30 cents cheaper than the 100 count envelope boxes! And that was before the 25% off sales price. The sales price of the 3.8 oz. boxes was $3.36 and I used my $3.00 coupons. And there were no problems getting the 3.00 CAT either.
And as for Walgreen’s (McHenry) they still have no Luster White Toothpaste. But they did have THREE whole boxes of 3M Nexcare bandages (20-30packs)! Two of the waterproof ones and one of the regular soft and flexible ones. None of the clear waterproof ones. Of course, one of the “ethically challenged couponers” had thoughtfully removed all of the rebate stickies from those three remaining packages! Save your time and gas $$$.
rigglet says
You mentioned that Walgreens should adjust the coupon down, but my Walgreens manager won’t do this with sale items. I showed her the policy, and she pointed out that this section under Sale Items: ‘In the event that any item’s selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Walgreens will only accept the coupon in exchange for the selling price of the item.’ She told me this meant I could have the sale price or the coupon off the regular shelf price but not both because it said in exchange for the selling price of the item. I’m wondering if this is what others are having trouble with as well? I’ve thought about calling Corporate but haven’t yet.

I found them in the freezers with glass doors at the end of the meat department, just past the prepared refrigerated meals that aren’t behind glass. In the same case there were meatballs and other frozen pre-made stuff.

Do we know where this coupon came from? Mine beeped because apparently you can’t use it on alcohol and I grabbed a bottle of wine to go over the $25, except it didn’t say that anywhere on the coupon. They did an override for me, but the cashier manager lady who is always there and knows her stuff said it *should* have said that on there and also it should have had all the logos and she asked me where I got it. I told her the Jewel Facebook page, because that’s where I thought it was from, but that was the BREAD coupon from the FB page and the $2 off one was from here (and it’s ALL over the internet) and I can’t find the original source for it.
Any ideas?
