Deals of the Week for August 19, 2008

Another week of free stuff and cheap stuff!

First… did you save your coupon inserts from Sunday’s paper? There’s a coupon for a free loaf of Sara Lee bread in the Redplum insert. Aren’t those the best kind of coupons? For the last 3 weeks now, there has been a coupon for something free every single week. It doesn’t even matter what store you take it to.

Now, if you can resist the temptation to run out and use this free bread coupon… hold onto it one more week. Jewel’s got a good deal that involves this bread coupon which I’ll tell you about in next week’s deals! If you can’t wait, take a look at the current Jewel flyer and see if you can figure it out (yes, you get coupon homework this week!) If you figure it out, yes, you can redeem it!

Ready for some cheap ice cream? Edy’s Dibs, those delicious little bite-sized ice cream snacks, are dirt cheap at Jewel this week. Here’s how the deal works… Dibs are $5.99, buy one get one free at Jewel. So for $5.99, you will get 2 boxes of Dibs, and 3 Catalinas will print – two for $2 off your next order, AND a $1.50 off your next purchase of 2 Dibs.

So, you’re out of pocket $2 at this point, if you consider the $4 you just got back in Catalinas.

Now the fun begins. Take those $4 in Catalinas, plus the $1.50 coupon for 2 boxes of Dibs, and buy 2 more.

It works like this:

$5.99 – $1.50 coupon – $2 Catalina – $2 Catalina = 49 cents out of pocket for 2 more boxes of Dibs. AND, the same 3 Catalinas will print again at checkout, so you can buy more! You can do this as many times as you want.

The trouble will be finding enough Dibs, honestly — the boxes are HUGE (they’re almost 1lb. each, about 6″ x 8″) and very few of them fit on the shelf in the freezer case at Jewel, so they’ll be selling out frequently. (Ask your store to check in back if there aren’t any in the freezer case.) Remember it’s the Dibs in the cardboard box, NOT the Dibs in the rounded ice cream tub, that work for this deal. Catalina deals are very specific to types and sizes, so make sure you have the right kind. You also want to do this one at the self-checker, as the regular registers will at times give you a “$2 off 3” Dibs coupon. You need to buy in quantities of 2 at a time, so the “$1.50 off 2” coupon that prints at the self-checker is the better one to get.
