If you’re new to my blog, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon terminology and abbreviations.
A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on some Chicagoland stores, the Kroger, Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu or Safeway store you may find similar sales to our Jewel-Osco and Dominick’s deals. Welcome, and enjoy!
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.
“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel-Osco… View weekly ad | Load SavingStar ecoupons
IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations have updated their cash registers to a new system. If you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed. Watch your registers.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: Jewel-Osco has discontinued its Avenu ecoupons as of 6/18/12. The ecoupons you can currently use with Jewel-Osco now are via SavingStar and Jewel-Osco’s new ecoupons. Note that the ecoupons you can load to card are often the same as the ones you can print at Coupons.com. If you print them, you get two prints, but if you load them, you only get ONE. Just an FYI.
Jewel-Osco information:
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? At times, Jewel sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons and Deal Match offers
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area:
View weekly ad | Load Meijer Mperks ecoupons
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.
Heading over to Kroger… View weekly ad | Load Kroger ecoupons | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Cellfire ecoupons | Load ShortCuts ecoupons | Load PGEsaver.com ecoupons
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Kroger | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad | Load “Schnupons” ecoupons
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. The current ad is good through Tuesday, August 28th.
Off to Target…
View weekly ad | Print store coupons from Target.com …
Target Notes:
You get .05 off your total at Target for each reusable bag you bring and use. If you pay with the Target credit or debit card, you receive another 5% off.
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens (View weekly ad | On Fridays, preview next week’s ad)…
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE WALGREENS AD: Walgreens is no longer putting its entire ad in the paper newspaper version. There are online-only ad pages that you can look at via this link: View weekly ad
And finally, over at CVS (View weekly ad) | Load SavingStar ecoupons
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! You may want to scan your coupon more than once – it’s been printing different coupons on subsequent scans!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is filled with many coupons each month. Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Q states that it is only good on packaged coleslaw. How is it good on spinach and salads too?
eztupp says
this week’s papers also had a PG insert. i didnt see a jewel booklet this week in my tribs. i got mine last week.
aiyoonee says
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the $1/2 printable is only good on the 16oz singles.

Jill can you find the intant savings spotlight book in jewel or is it newspaper only?

The Q I have for $2/10 Con Agra from Centrella ad also includes Banquet Brown n serve sausages, so you can use it at Dominick’s where they are $.99.

On the Nabisco Meijer deal, I printed a coupon for B2G1Free(9oz-16oz.) So could you buy three boxes use that coupon AND one of the $1.00/2? I get kinda confused now with all the coupon regulation changes on what is ACTUALLY “proper” couponing ediquette(sp?) these days and I DO NOT want to do anything that is not right. I am very big on following the rules. It is the tons of people that do not, purposely, that ruin it for the rest of us. Sorry about that litlle rant! ;-)Thanks Jill for doing what you do, GREATLY appreciated!

I tried the deal on the 12 packs of Dr Pepper and A&W this morning bought 2 of each and no $5 cat back… I did this deal at my own risk so I am not at all upset about it just thought I would give others a heads up :)
ruizno says
Is there a limit to the wags coupons? Will the IVC Wags coupons $1 off of 2 give me $2 off of 4?
chicabaja says
I know that this is on Mashup Mom too, but just an FYI. The Stayfree pads may not ring up at the $2 sale price, but full price ($4.29 at my store eeek!). It happened to me yesterday, but I didn’t catch it until I got home. Went bag to Wags this morning on my way to work to get my money back. The manager was very nice and already aware of the issue. She said it was “an ongoing issue” so I’m guessing it must be widespread and not fixed yet.

My Meijer add has a manufacturer’s coupon for $1.50 off any Neutrogena product, excludes cosmetics, suncare, acne products, and trial sizes. It expires 9/30. This was in the Orland Park ad.
kkris812 says
I’m not that good of a couponer and never really done well at Target until yesterday.
I did the Stayfree deal, bought 2 Downy Unstoppables for $4 ea but had a $.50 Target coupon plus $2.00 MQ for each and then a pack of Hershey’s Simple Pleasures. They are not on sale but were $2.99 at my store in the city, there is a $1.00 coupon on Target.com and then a previous newspaper had a $2.00 coupon so those were free. I paid $3.52 and left with a $5 gift card. I used my Target debit card but didn’t get 5% off, there must be a minimum purchase you have to make???
Saving4Ethan says
I was just at Walgreens and did an all Kraft 10 item deal. I received the $10 Kraft cat just fine but despite purchasing 4 of the Crystal Light products included in the seperate $3 cat deal, the $3 cat did not print. I double checked on couponnetwork.com on the details of the Crystal Light deal and it only shows Jewel & Dominicks as participating retailers, not Walgreens. Bummer! :(
eztupp says
on the mfg coupons it says no more than 4 coupons of any kind allowed per transaction. does that include the target coupons? if so then i think you could only use one target coupon.
parsh5 says
I did the ‘full’ Kraft cheese deal this morning (Bought 9 Kraft singles and got 3 Kraft Natural Slices free) but only received a $5 cat instead of $10. I think maybe the slices are not included in the catalina deal? So you need to add one more item to get the $10 cat to print. Unless I did something wrong…
LindaY6 says
A few weeks back, there was a BOGO printable for Gevalia. I have 2 of those plus 2 of the 1.25$ from the Jewel Savings book. Can I pick up 4 bags and use all 4 coupons? I figured the BOGOS got me the 4 bags, and the 1.25 could be used on the “free” bags? Am I correct?
gabnab55 says
At Wal-Mart during school supply shopping, I picked up a Kellogg’s coupon book called “Start School Like a Champion”. It has coupons like Save %1.50 on fruit when you purchase two Kellogg’s cereals or save $2.00 on milk when you purchase three Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts. If I purchase milk and fruit, can I use these coupons in addition to the coupons on the cereals since the coupon is good for the fruit and milk and the other coupons are good on the cereal and pop-tarts?
amber1361 says
I went to Walgreens to get the razor deal and they didn’t have the Mach 3 razor, however I was able to get the Mach 3 disposable 3-pack for free ($11.99 price).
Lynn Simmons says
The Kellogg’s deal is price match 1.88 when you buy 4 but the free milk is when you buy 5. I checked the sign twice hanging by the products. So if you want the free milk be sure to buy in transactions of 5. HTH
Mom with a coupon says
I haven’t read all the comments so my apologies if this is a repeat. My Walmart doesn’t carry the breakfast blends variety, so it’s a bust. Pooh.
Outlander says
Muddy buddies Chex mix is not included in Meijer sale ( probably not Jewel either). It’s $3.39 there.
Lots of nice clearance find- mini appliance kits are 75% off, so $7.50. I bought pop-corn kit and cupcake kit ( I’ll save that one for my daughter for Christmas).
Also Ball canning lids are Buy 2 Get 1 free. That’s good deal.
Emerfe says
The “$1.00 off any ONE (1) Big Value size Purex detergent. 128oz./54 ct. or larger only” coupon worked for me last night at walgreens on the $1.99, 33 load bottle. I bought 2 bottles and used 2 $1.00 off coupons and paid $1.98 for 2 bottles, or 99 cents each. I was so excited! I figured I would at least try to see if they would take the coupon and they did…no questions asked!
libuse says
FYI….I went to Dominicks today to do the “buy Kelloggs cereal, get free milk” and it is actually buy FIVE (not 4) to get the milk. They were kind enough to let me add a box of cereal to get the milk coupon.
meh2beh says
Went to meijer and did the cheese deal but only received a 5 dollar catalina. The same at walgreens i did the velveta with the dressings and only got 5 dollar catalina back. I was wondering wat went wrong. At both stores i purchased 10 items. Anybody got the same problems?
Coupon Maven says
Some reports have come in today of the Kraft Catalina not quite working. People buying 10 shredded cheeses were getting a $5 Catalina, not a $10. A $5 Catalina will print if 6-9 participating items are bought.
If you buy a SEVEN OUNCE shredded cheese instead of an EIGHT OUNCE shredded, you will not get credit for it, and the register will think you did not buy ten participating items… because you didn’t. The EIGHT OUNCE sizes are the only ones that are included. Watch those sizes!
Thank you to Judi Cookie for pointing this out (and reminding us all..!)
noel1262 says
Walgreens don’t reduce manufacturer coupons but the in ad or book coupons do get reduced by the 15%. Also, remember if it is a buy $15 get $5, you need to make sure you are at $15 after the 15% discount.
couponloving says
Sunkist regular orange worked too. I did it Monday evening at 9pm.
clipsalot says
I was at Meijer tonight and bought 10 Go-Gurt and receive a $2 CAT from Yoplait. I am not sure what the deal is or if buying less will still trigger the CAT, but it did make the deal better!
meg86 says
Somehow buying 2 jars of 30 oz Miracle Whip (2 for $5) gave me $2 off my produce instantly. I found out when a message was displayed when I price-checked them.
nmfoster says
My Wags had the Kraft dressing priced at $.349. Anyone else have this problem? Jill, how did you know the price was 2 for $4 for the dressing? I just looked in the ad and the price wasn’t there. Thanks!

Almost all the kid’s Advil bottles at my CVS (in Chicago) had $2 q peelies on them! Makes the Advil $1.49/bottle after ECBs—great, since that stuff is usually quite pricey!
coupon mommy says
The Cary jewel does not have the minute maid juice boxes for 2.99…they’re 3.49 and the muddy buddies Chex mix is not $1.
ereml27 says
I did not realize that the Planters Nutrition Peanut Butter was also part of that
* Double Dip Catalina:
– Buy 3-5 participating Kraft products and receive a $2 Catalina;
– Buy 6-9 participating Kraft products and receive a $5 Catalina;
– Buy 10 or more participating Kraft products and receive a $10 Catalina!
AND I found $1 peelies on them!
So buy 6 at $2.75 each = $16.50
minus $6 peelies = $10.50
minue $5 cat =$5.50
=92 cents each!

Can someone help me find the “Buy Gillette system razor, get free Mach 3 Razor” in the 08/26 PG. All I seem to have is a $3 and $1 Q’s. They are on the opposite page of Head & Shoulders and Old Spice Q’s. TIA

Most of the time I avoid the young cashiers, but at Walgreen’s he was really getting into it.
I bought the ProGlide and the free Mach3 (Disposables – but who cares), pencils, 4 Kraft salad dressings, 2 Mayo, 1 Maxwell House Coffee, 4 Crystal light, and a coke :) After my coupons, and my 15% Friends & Family it came to $23.64, and I got a $10 and $4 cat back. Woo hoo. With the 15% the razor was $8.49, which means after the coupon and RR – .49 :)
(and if you are counting, I know I got 11 Kraft items, but that was a better deal with the Crystal Light!)

I thought I had seen something on the site about a code you could use to get coupons/alerts on your cell phone for baby products from Target. Would love to give this a friend at work. Thanks
