Super-Couponers, it’s time for more great deals! A big welcome to our new members from this week’s Wheeling and Joliet classes (and WOW, what a week of sales for you to get started with this!)
If you’re new to the site, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon lingo and abbreviations. It’s a good idea to save the flyers from Sunday’s paper to have on hand to refer to too as you go through the deals! And, if you’re new to couponing in general, check out my Super-Couponing website for a list of FREE coupon classes and instructions on how to start using coupons effectively!

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel, did you notice the B1G1F coupon for Fannie May ice cream pints in the 8/2 SS insert? They’re currently on sale at Jewel for $4.99, B1G1F. And when you use a B1G1F coupon during a B1G1F sale, you will buy none and get TWO for free! The coupon’s value of $4.99 “pays” for the $4.99 cost of two pints… and you get two free ice creams! Delicious! (The ice cream sale is scheduled to run through 8/15- and stores are running out of stock. GET RAINCHECKS just in case, as the coupons have long expiration dates.)
If you like Kellogg’s Pop Tarts, this is your week..! They’re 5 for $5 when purchased in quantities of 5. Use coupons to bring the price down further…
$1 off 2 – KL 8/2 (TWO different coupons in insert, so clip both)
.55 off Blueberry Muffin flavor Pop-Tarts – print 2
This works out to .45 a box for the boxes you’ve got coupons for — and if you haven’t done the Kellogg’s $10 rebate yet, even if you’re not a big rebater, you’ll want to. They’re offering $10 back when you buy 10 Kellogg’s products on one receipt, and you’ll have done just that… for LESS than $10. It’s a Pop-Tart moneymaker, as they’ll ALL be free after the rebate!
Free pens again! Bic pens are on sale 2 packs for $1 again. Print two of these $1 off 2 coupons and take home 4 packages of pens for FREE! One more thing to cross off the school supply list…
Single-subject spiral notebooks are cheap at Jewel this week too – 8 for $1. And if you’re shopping for school supplies, be sure to read the Walgreens and CVS posts down the page, as many things are cheap there this week too.
Now, have you been following the myriad of crazy Catalina and instant-savings deals currently running? In the current ad, we have:
Pepsico: Buy $20, Save $5 on meat
Unilever/GM: Spend $30, get $15
Johnson and Johnson: Spend $15, get $5
Procter & Gamble: Buy $20, get $5
ALL at the same time.
First, let’s tackle the Pepsico deal:
Buy $20 of the items pictured on the back page of the Thursday cycle flyer and save $5 instantly at checkout off any meat item. This is an instant-savings deal, so you must spend over $20 on the items in the ad. The only thing that really jumps out to me as potentially worth doing are the Aquafina cases of water, IF you have Catalinas to use up from the Fiber One deal last week. If you have 4 Cats, pick your free waters up here ($18) – add a filler over $2, like a bottle of Dole juice, and you would save that extra $5 on meat. This deal is “okay,” but there are even better ones going on at Jewel this week, like…
Unilever/GM: Spend $30, get $15

With the deals above, buying the total dollar amount required (NOT including tax! Make sure you are over, pre-tax) will generate your Catalinas. However, you can potentially save even more money on these already great deals.
If you are VERY NEW at couponing and not comfortable doing a high-level Catalina deal differently than what the ad specifies, skip this and move on to the Dominick’s deals for this week. But if you are comfortable with a higher-level deal…
My black belt couponers know that these deals typically work differently at Jewel than at any other store.
VERY IMPORTANT: If you have never done a high-level Catalina deal at Jewel before, please read this short overview of the way the price structure works. In a nutshell, if you base your $30 on the non-Preferred prices, you can save even more money and spend less out of pocket.
It is entirely up to you if you would like to work the deal in this way, but understand that IF you do, and the Catalina does not print, you can NOT go to the service counter and ask/demand that they reimburse you. You are working this sale in a different way than the ad specifies, and you’re on your own if you choose to do this. Know that you are accepting ANY outcome, including getting NO Catalinas.
You can mix and match any items in the list to get to that $30 mark. It’s important to remember that the non-preferred prices vary at EVERY store, and in some cases there are three prices (shelf, sale, and Preferred) on each item. If there is a fourth price (“Big Relief,” this is the price you use.)
If this makes no sense or is the least bit confusing to you… do NOT do the deal in this way. These high-level Catalina deals can be very confusing, especially when you’re new at this. If you are new, use the PREFERRED price only, and you’ll get the Catalina every time.
But if you’re a “black belt” couponer and want to maximize your savings… here are some of the best deals. You will also note that there are many items in the deal that are not advertised – thanks to Tracey for the spreadsheet. Again, if you use these scenarios and do not get your Catalina, do NOT go to Customer Service and ask them to make it right for you. You WILL NOT have purchased what the ad states that you must. Again, YOU are taking the risk on these deals. You must be willing to accept ANY outcome without complaining, even if it means not getting any Catalinas at all.
Black Belt Deals for the $30/$15
(Remember to ALWAYS, ALWAYS verify regular/sale/big relief/preferred prices at the PRICE SCANNER for YOUR store before relying on these quantity breakdowns. This cannot be stressed enough. It is never fun to be pennies off from a deal because your store has an item priced a little lower than others.)
And, remember to roll your Cats! Take the $15 you get and go right back and use it to bring your out-of-pocket down on your next round of items.
The Breyers ice cream deal for my beginners
Now, despite all the warnings, I KNOW there will be people reading who are brand new and want to get in on this. This one’s for you. No thinking, VERY low risk, VERY high chance of getting your Catalinas :)
Buy 5 Breyer’s 1.5qt ice creams ($3 each.)
Use 2 printable $1 coupons
Pay $13 and get $15 back. FREE icecream and a small moneymaker!
Note that at many stores, this deal is ALSO generating a “$4 off your next 5 Breyers” Catalina. This is the most valuable Catalina to have for this deal, because you can take that one, and the $15 you just got, run right back to the aisle, get 5 more cartons, and you’ll only be paying $11 to make $15.
Be aware that if you use the $4 coupon, you will NOT be able to roll all your $15 in Cats into the next round, because you’re only going to be spending $11. What most of us do is “fill up” that extra $4 with something else, because that $4 worth of other items will essentially work out to be free with the next Cat roll.
Example: My second trip in, I bought 5 more Breyers and $4.05 worth of grapes.
Total at register before coupons and previous $15 Cats: $15.05.
I rolled in my previous $15 in Cats, paid $0.05, got $15 back in Cats and another $4 off 5 Breyers coupon to just keep doing this again, and again, and again… until I run out of freezer space. (Now you guys will see why I rely on my chest freezer SO much… this deal makes me believe I might need another :)
Here’s a way to roll Breyers and the Pop-Tart deal together:
After buying your first round of Breyers, if you get that $4 Catalina, go get 5 more Breyers and 10 boxes of Pop-Tarts. Use the two $1-off-2 coupons for the Pop-Tarts from the 8/2 KL insert and two .55 printables from the above link, plus your $4 Breyers coupon. Your total will now be $17.90. Give them your $15 in Cats – pay $2.90 and get $15 more in Cats – AND qualify for $10 Kellogg’s rebate! Now THAT’S SUPER-COUPONING!
If you have enough Pop-Tart coupons to cover all 10 boxes: With 5 $1-off-2 coupons, plus the $4 ice cream coupon, you will be at $16 exactly. Pay $16, get $15 back in Cats & send in that rebate…
AND, if you use any .55 printables instead of the $1-off-2s, you could potentially dip UNDER the $15 mark, even with all those Pop-Tarts on there. Throw in something small to get back over $15 so you can keep rolling. (Bunch of bananas? Bag of onions? You pick! Produce is an easy filler too – plus a fun thing to work into these deals.)
An entirely Skippy deal:
Buy 12 Skippy Naturals (must be naturals, as we have a double dip Cat deal on this! You’ll get an extra $1 Cat back for every 2 jars of Skippy Creamy Naturals you buy.)
So, buy 12. Get an even number of Creamy Naturals, Use as many coupons for $1 off 2 Skippy from the 8/2 RP that you’ve got. Many people got extra papers this week because it was a 5-insert week, so here are your breakouts:
With one coupon – pay $23 for 12 Skippy and get $15 back – plus an extra $1 back for every 2 Creamy!
A cake mix and frosting deal
Buy 8 Betty Crocker frostings ($1.50 each) and 9 Betty Crocker cake mixes (need 9 to get over the $30 non-Preferred prices.)
Pre-coupon, you’re at $21. Now, use as many printables as you have for .50 off Betty Crocker cake AND frosting, and/or .50 off frosting.
With 2 .50-off-cake-and frosting printables and two .50-off-frosting printables, pay $19 and get $15 back. $4 for 9 cake mixes and 8 frostings! If you have access to multiple computers, with 8 .50-off-cake-and frosting printables, pay $17 and get $15 back – $2 for enough cake supplies for a year.
Honey Nut Cheerios, Honey Kix, or Cookie Crisp deal
Buy 8 boxes ($16.)
Use as many General Mills and cereal-specific coupons from the notes above.
With four $1 off 2 coupons, pay $12 and get $15 back. Cereal moneymaker! There are lots of coupons out for this one, plus any “$1 off General Mills cereal” Catalinas you may have.
NOTE: Some stores may need 10 boxes – again, CHECK prices. If you have $3.99 as the regular price, you can use 8. $3.29 – need 10 – and so on.
Bertolli Organic pasta sauce deal
Buy 7 Bertolli Organic pasta sauces, 24 oz. (MUST be organic!)
Pay $14 and get $15 back. Pasta sauce moneymaker!
Knorr Pasta Sides deal
Buy 12 Knorr Pasta Sides Plus Veggies ($1 each)
Use any Knorr coupons from above. With two .50 off 2 and a $1 off 3, pay $10 and get $15 back in Cats. Knorr moneymaker!
REGULAR Knorr Sides are in the deal too! Same coupons as above, but you will need a couple more to get to $30 as the prices of these are slightly lower – WATCH prices at your store. :)
All Detergent deal
This is the BIG one everyone’s been talking about. It’s also the one causing the MOST problems this week, because…
… many of the varieties on the shelf for $3.50 are not working for the deal.
… some of the varieties on the shelf are unadvertised clearance priced at $3.29-$3.69 a bottle. Clearance items will not work as nicely for this deal, as the Clearance price is the ONLY price on the item. There is no price spread from the big relief ($5.49) to the preferred price ($3.50) to tip this enough in our favor.
If you still want to try, I would pay CLOSE attention to the UPCs on the spreadsheet. Many bottles on the shelf look identical in color and label, and yet have different UPCs. As I said, this one is NOT for novices :) Make sure you are checking every single bottle’s UPC against the sheet AND the price scanner to make sure they are not on clearance, nor not on the sheet. Many varieties on the shelf have a UPC that starts with a 7 – AVOID these bottles as they currently will not work. Many people were having LOTS of trouble with these. I can’t say this enough – DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
This is the number one issue I’m receiving email about right now – if you are NOT up to checking and doublechecking this deal meticulously before you ring it, SKIP it. It’s a head-scratcher :)
Ready? Here we go.
Buy 6 bottles of All at $3.50 each = $21.00
Use as many $1 coupons as you have – 6/28 RP, 8/2 RP, $1 printables from All’s site linked above.
If you get one paper, with these 4 coupons, pay $17 and get $15 back. $2 for 5 bottles of All!
If you get multiple papers, with 6 $1 coupons, pay $15 and get $15 back. FREE All!
Again, BE CAREFUL on the UPCs and the prices. One of my readers pointed out that the clearance varieties ringing at $3.29 (“Sunshine Energy” is one of them) would still be useful as a filler to get to $30 if you are mixing and matching many items and find yourself at that annoying $27 mark :) Use a $1 coupon, pay $2.29 for it, and still qualify for the Cat. Or, if you find 5 bottles of the “good” All, you can use a clearance bottle as your 6th and still get over $30 – just make sure it’s on the spreadsheet. You may also have more luck finding the clearance varieties on the shelf – but to do an entire order of clearance-priced all, you’re going to need 10 bottles to get over $30. Not a deal.
Statistically speaking, unless you check every single bottle’s UPC (even the bottles that look identical in type, fragrance and design can have different UPCs) the odds are stacked against this deal working. Be prepared to really pay close attention in setting up an All deal.
If anyone cares, (!) these two other promos are running at Jewel too:
Johnson and Johnson: Spend $15, get $5
Procter & Gamble: Buy $20, get $5
Not much is jumping out at me as super-wonderful with either deal. The P&G deal isn’t bad if you need any of these things, but we’ve certainly seen better ($20/$10 and $30/$15 for P&G) so it’s up to you. Again, with this deal, you can work it on the regular prices too. Use www.coupontom.com for your matchups, and please feel free to post anything great that you work out with this one.
VERY IMPORTANT: The $15/$30 runs through AUGUST 12. All other Cat deals run through August 5, Wednesday.
Heading to Dominick’s, there are a bunch of Super Coupons in this week’s ad. You can stack manufacturer coupons with all of these, if there are any items that you’d like. (Normally, I would post a shopping breakdown for you, but… is anyone really headed to Doms this week with the insanity that’s going on at Jewel?) If you wish to shop at Dominick’s, this will be a good week to practice your coupon matchups :) Grab a pen and your flyer, visit www.coupontom.com or www.hotcouponworld.com (has expired coupon database) and match away!
All of the Super Coupons require a total purchase of $20 or more to use, but I’m going to give you a good scenario to get over that mark and take advantage of these GOOD sales! And, keep in mind that at Dominick’s, the “Minimum $20 purchase” applies to the REGULAR, non-sale price of those items. Really! It’s even spelled out very well on Safeway’s corporate site:
What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases before your Club Card discount is applied. This total will include the coupon item’s regular price, not the discounted price. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (before coupon and before Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.
So, knowing this, getting over that $20 mark isn’t as hard as it seems. Feel free to post your Doms trip reports if you come up with a good one… I have just spent hours writing the Jewel deals alone this week and focused more of my attention over there, all things considered :)
Over at Meijer, they’ve got a great “10 for $10 and get the 11th FREE” sale running which will net you a lot of groceries very cheaply if you play your coupons right. Grab your flyer, look at page 1, and follow along…
Here are your coupon matchups for the deal:
Del Monte Fruit Naturals single-serve cups: $1 off 2 – 7/12 RP, $1 off 3
Totino’s Pizza Rolls: .40 off 2 – 7/12 SS
Land O’ Lakes Spreadable Butter: .50 off – 7/19 SS
Pillsbury Grands Biscuits: .35 off – 7/12 SS

Chef Boyardee canned pastas:
Hormel Pepperoni slices: .75 off – 6/21 SS
Dole canned fruit salad: $1 off 3 – 7/19 SS
There are many other items in the ad too – no current coupons, but that doesn’t mean they’re not good deals. Mix and match, and for every 10 you buy, the 11th item will be free.
Want a scenario?
Buy:
1 Land O’ Lakes
2 Del Monte Fruit Naturals
2 Ben & Jerry’s
2 Betty Crocker Warm Delights
1 Hormel Pepperoni
1 Coffee Mate
1 Pillsbury Grands
With the coupons outlined above, you will pay $4.90 for all of this AND get an 11th item free of your choice! The beautiful part of this deal? Some produce items are included in this deal too. So after you buy your 10th, add in that free 11th item, like a:
Dole premium salad
Bag of Meijer frozen vegetables
Meijer Organic whole white or mini bella mushrooms
Bunch of Homegrown Pascal celery
Or, if you want to get really crazy, add in a live fish for your 11th item. REALLY! Meijer tropical fish are also in the “get 11th for free” (the kind that swim in a bowl, not the kind you eat!) I have to say that this is the first time I’ve EVER seen a free pet in an instant-savings deal! :)
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes. This is why I don’t blog too many Meijer deals…
For my Rockford-area readers, are you sure you guys don’t want to road-trip to Jewel this week? :) Last night I ran into a group from Rockford who had driven to our Jewel to do the $30/$15! I confessed there have been times I’ve road-tripped in the opposite directions for double coupons at Hilander… it was fun to watch them filling up their carts with All and Chex Mix..!
Crest toothpaste is $1 this week, and the new 8/2 PG has a .50 coupon! Double this to a buck, and you’re taking home free Crest…
Yogurt is cheap at Hilander too! Any time it works out to under a quarter a cup, it’s a buy — and it sure does this week. Dannon Activia, Dannon Crush, and Dannon DanActive are all on sale for $1.88. Use the $1 coupons from 7/26 SS and take these home for .88 a 4-pack!
CHEAP meat alert! Western-style bone-in pork ribs are $1.59 a pound through 8/5. Any time meat is under $1.99 a pound, no matter what kind of meat it is, it’s a buy… especially for ribs! YUM!
Cook’s ham shank portions are also a great buy at $1.19/lb, and ground beef is $1.68/lb. Hit all those meat sales :)
Drugstore Deals
This week at Walgreens, there are a couple freebies and good buys…
G.U.M. toothbrush 2-packs are on a Register Rewards deal. Buy one at $3.49 and get $3.49 back in RRs! Make this a moneymaker with a coupon… with the .75 coupon from 6/21 RP, pay $2.74 and get $3.49 back… plus 2 free toothbrushes :)
Vitamin brand shampoo and conditioner is also on an RR deal. Buy one at $3.99 and get $3.99 back. Even with no coupons, it’s free! Both of these deals are limit one per transaction.
Clairol Natural Instincts haircolor is a STEAL too. It’s on sale for $6.99. Use the $4 coupon from 8/2 PG, pay $2.99 — and get $2 back in RRs! You’ll have a whole new look… for 99 cents.
Many school supplies are really cheap this week at Wags too. Grab the flyer and take a look – I’ve had so many readers write this week about a strategy for tackling school supplies. Here’s a post with all my tips on that – basically, I skim all the very cheap loss leaders in the weeks leading up to back-to-school, and by the time school starts, I’ve got the list done.
Notable cheapies at Wags this week:
9-cent pocket folders
.29 2-packs pink erasers
.29 rulers
.29 100-ct. paper clips
.19 10-packs of #2 pencils
.99 6-packs of Paper-Mate colored highlighters
.99 Crayola markers
And finally, at CVS, they have some excellent Extra Care Bucks deals running, as usual. The first is on Stayfree pads… get $5 in ECBs when you spend $10 or more on Stayfree and/or other products. This is the perfect sale to use the B1G1F Stayfree coupon from 6/28 SS, as the Stayfree is currently priced at $5 a pack! Buy 2 packs ($10) … use your B1G1F coupon and pay $5 for both… and get $5 back in ECBs! Your Stayfree really is FREE..!
CVS also has a bunch of school supply sales running through today (Tuesday!) where when you buy these items, they’re totally free after ECB. They’ve been doing this the past few weeks, and it’s a fun sale, as everything you buy, you get the full amount back for in ECBs! You can get:
1-subject notebooks – .99 each, limit 2
2-pocket folders – .49 each, limit 2
5″ safety scissors – $2.99 each, limit 2
Book covers – .99 each, limit 2
CVS erasers, post-it notes, or glue sticks – .99 each, limit 2
CVS pencils or pens 10-20 packs – .99 each, limit 2
CVS compass or protractor – $1.50 each, limit 2
CVS has a decent diaper deal running too. I get so many diaper deal requests, and they run so sporadically, that sometimes we have to accept a “good” diaper deal in lieu of a “great” one… the last GREAT diaper deals were the .96/jumbo pack Huggies this Spring, and before that, the $1.94/jumbo pack Pampers in January. Ahh, memories :)
Anyway, here’s the deal at CVS. Buy 2 jumbo packs of Pampers (diapers or easy-ups) and get $5 in ECBs. The jumbo packs are currently priced at $10 each – not a very good buy. But with coupons, it does get better…
The 8/2 PG has $1 Pampers coupons and $1.50 Easy-Ups coupons. However, if you have a child in diapers, you know that Pampers regularly mails coupons out that are higher-value than appear in the paper. Over the last month, Pampers has sent out some $2 and $3 coupons via direct mail. If you have these, the deal is better.
With two $2 coupons, pay $16 for 2 jumbo packs and get $5 back. That works out to $5.50 each.
With two $3 coupons, pay $14 and get $5 back. That’s $4.50 each!
Now, if you’re doing this deal, don’t forget to get your FREE wipes! This sweetens the “okay” diaper price even more. If your pampers are Swaddlers or Extra Protection varieties, use the coupon from 8/2 PG for “buy diapers, get a free tub of wipes.” If you get multiple inserts and have the above coupons, you could conceivably get 2 packs diapers AND 2 tubs of wipes for $9. Not too shabby :)
FREE stuff:
FREE Crest Whitestrips: Last week, we had a deal where travel sizes of Crest Whitestrips were free. If you did this deal, open the boxes of the Whitestrips that you got, and inside them are $7 coupons for ANY size Whitestrips. You know what that means… get more travel sizes… which are priced at $4.99 at Target and $5.99 at Jewel. And inside your new boxes will be more $7 coupons… and so on… and so on…
FREE Yoplait Whips yogurt coupon
FREE single M&M/Mars chocolate (every Friday through September 2009.)
FREE insert coupons that are still current:
8/2 SS – FREE jar Beech-Nut Stage 3 Fruit baby food (exp. 12/31/09)
7/26 SS – FREE can of Mighty Dog dog food (exp. 9/14/09)
(note too, if you don’t have a dog or baby, any of our local food pantries will be very happy to take these things. Donate them! :)
August All You, p. 95 – FREE Jack Links Buffalo Chicken Nuggets (expires 9/30/09)

For those of you reading this late at night, remember not to do Cat deals between 11pm-2am — this is when the machines reset and receive their updates for the next day, and you run the risk of getting NO Cats when they’re updating. The light may be on… but nobody’s home.
I’d also stay away from any All with a UPC that starts with 7. I “took some for the team” tonight and could not make any deals work with any of these UPCs, in any combination. As the week goes on, hopefully these UPCs will get added by Catalina.

I was at 3 stores today no stock when do you think they (Huntly) will get more Dove nd Q-Tips, as this is the very closest to my home? Or should I go in the am and place a special order? This goes for the ALL also. Thanks every one!

I’ve been sitting here with my Jewel ad and my computer trying to put together my grocery list for tomorrow. I’m so excited for all these Catalina deals, but seriously, my head hurts. Thanks, Jill, for writing up so many scenarios!

I took one on the chin this week – my own fault. I combined some Skippy natural and reduced fat skippy. But in the 6 skippy nat I purchased (2 creamy, 4 chunky) only ONE $1.00 off next purchase cat printed out.

I cannot find the Free Beech-Nut coupon. Could it have been THAT regional (Huntley-yes, Downers Grove-no) or am I just losing it?
krcoupon4 says
How does the double dipping on the Q-tips work? I thought on Osco products, you had to use the preferred price. If I buy 8 at $2.99 each, I am paying $23.92. How does that earn $27 in Cats? The only thing I can see is that it earns $7 from the Beauty Care Cat. (buy $20, save $7). Please help – it’s late and my brain can no longer do math! : )
Thanks!

It’s clear and the logos and graphics (as well as the “jump to” tabs on top) are helpful! Nice job making sense of all the madness this week! :)

At my Jewel yesterday, there was a sign on the doors saying that you needed to use the preferred price to get the 30/15 catalina. However, I didn’t believe it, and did the deals with the sale price. Which worked just fine!!! Got 5 cereals, 2 mayo’s and 3 dressings, paid 1.65 and got my $15 catalinas. Could Jewel set the deal this way today with updates overnight?
bluedemon20 says
I think the Cheerios might require 10. Mine rang up 3.29 minus 1.29. 8 is only 26.32.

I just went to Jewel by my work to check out the Motts… I scanned the juice and it came up 4.19, no other price except the shelf. would it still have worked?
since I didn’t see a preferred price, i didn’t think it would, so I didn’t want to take a chance.
i also scanned the cake mix which showed other prices..
any thoughts?

The Knorr Veggie Side Dishes rang up $1.20 (non-preferred price) at my store (Geneva). I bought 12, as Jill recommended, because the shelf price said $2.79. I didn’t realize they had rang up $1.20 (non-preferred) until it was too late.
Therefore, my Catalina didn’t print. My fault for being absent-minded, but a good example of how it can happen!

did anyone use cats to pay for the skippy natural peanut butter? i had used cats from my dove deal and they didnt print out. i didnt say anything, i figured ya win some ya lose some, but if thats the case i may try again paying cash…

Jill the new look is great! Very easy to read through.

I also did some GREAT deals. One being this one.Four chex mix bars, three fiber one bars and two honeynut cherrios.I had three 5.00 dollar cats plus 4.60 in other coupons OOP was 2.28.I received three more catalinas plus a coupon for a free case of water at a value of 4.50 :-).I really liked this deal.Turned out to be a great money maker and free water. With this deal I also received a coupon to enter codes into general mills. They are sending me a coupon for 5.00 off :-).This really was the best deal of the day.But out of the 151.78(for all my orders) I only paid 31.51.

Is anyone else having trouble printing the $1 off 2 Breyer’s/Klondike coupons? I enter all information necessary and hit print and the page just reloads…is there a specific URL that I could use instead of the direct link from this page? I normally don’t have problems with direct links from this site, so I was wondering if anyone else was having problems or if it was just my luck!?

If you use hair color, Wags also has a great deal on the L’oreal Excellence cream. (Deal is buy 20.00 or more, get 10.00 in RRs.) So if you buy 4 (24.00) use 4 coupons from 5/17 RP, you’ll get 4 for 12.00, and get 10.00 back! .50 each.

From your post you said to use preferred prices on Osco items, but for the double dip on the $4.99 Dove – buying only 5 of them works out to be 24.95 – not the $30 needed – are the Dove/Q-tips considered Jewel items? Great blog and love the new format too. Thanks!
brianna928 says
so if the non-preferred price is gonna work on the q-tips and dove shampoos will it also work on the vaseline lotion and degree deodorant?? just because earlier my jewel only had 4 q-tips and i didn’t have my calculator on hand to do the math to see what else i needed to buy so i left and am planning on checking out another store.

OK. I’ve read this post about 10 times over….and I’m not understanding what you’re saying….Example:
The Breyers deal- Buy 5 pints at $3 each- spend $15 and GET a $15 cat? I thought the deal was to spend $30 and get $15….
Is this assuming that you already have a catalina from a previous purchase to use in addition to the (2) $1/2 Breyers coupons?
Are the preferred prices of the ice cream super high and that is why it works? (Example: Are they priced at $6 per carton, meaning, 5 would total $30?) I don’t want to be annoying….but truly. I want to go to the store COMPLETLY organized…anyone? Help!

Deal is buy 2 ($6.29/12 pk) get 3 plus bag of tostidos chips free. I have a peelie Q for buy 2 bags of tostidos bags get a free tostidos salsa. So, for $25.16 (4*$6.29) I get 10 12-packs, 2 bags of tostidos, 1 jar of salsa. Aside from the “free” chips and salsa, it works out to be 2.52 per 12 pack. Thanks for any input!

I went to Jewel in Bolingbrook about 3:30pm today. They had NOTHING on their shelves. No All detergent, Lipton tea, Honeynut cheerios, or the angel soft tissue paper I got a raincheck for last week. Now, I have a $20 off a $50 order that expires tomorrow, and WHAT do I buy? Aaaarrrr Just venting that I wasted time at the store to walk out with nothing!

Just a reminder about being careful with your coupon folders. I was at the Spring Grove Jewel this afternoon to do the Breyer’s ice cream deal and hastily returned my cart and left my coupon book on the front seat of the cart. It was my fault that I left if there, but I was busy with my daughter and got distracted. I was hoping that someone would have turned it in to customer service- no such luck. I had other coupons in there also, but I just got the $15.00 cats from the ice cream, and also my daughter’s calculator was taken. I called as soon as I realized after I got home and then went there to search for it- nothing turned up. It has been a crazy week with the sales so just a reminder to be careful. Too bad that someone without a conscience found it first!

At the Algonquin store on Randall/Algonquin Rd. the Knorr plus veggies shelf price is 2.57 but it rang up 1.20. So, a heads up to those doing that deal there. Also, I went there tonight and there is almost nothing left on the shelves, and that included some items that weren’t mentioned in Jill’s postings. So, hopefully they will be restocking tonight. I actually went without the kids hoping to roll some catalinas but there just wasn’t anything left to do the deal again tonight. Well, I guess if I wanted more Breyers I could have done it, but we have enough ice cream to last us a year.

Hi Theresa – Make the drive over to the Plainfield Jewel (I may regret posting this later when I too can’t find what I need.) They are SOOO sweet and pro couponing over there.
The only thing they were “out” of was the All (had the “bad” UPC ones and the Bertolli. BUT, Mike let me special order 2 cases for me and my neighbor-24 total :-). We’ll have enough to do 3 runs of the Bertolli to split.
ALSO for the ALL….We had “good” UPC’s for two types of All (one was in the back behind the bad UPC’s….) and they let us use the two “good” bottles as the scanned bottles, taking home the “bad” UPC’s.
Bolingbrook was NOT coupon friendly the one time I went there, and I hope not to go back….

I did the Dove shampoo deal and it worked beautifully–got $27 in cats, and did another Dove/Q-Tip deal that worked perfectly. Used 3 Dove shampoos and 4, 375ct. Q-Tips. Btw, pretty much stalked the shampoo aisle to get the Dove b/c the Osco lady told me they’d be restocking tonight. :o)
Bertolli organic sauces & Breyer’s worked, but the Knorr didn’t. Couldn’t figure what went wrong so came home and read Jill’s description again and finally had a DOH! moment. It said PASTA, not rice. Ah, chalk it up to a learning experience and be more careful next time.
One other one that didn’t work that I still can’t figure out b/c I thought I did it exactly like Jill laid out was the cake mix/frosting deal. I bought 8 of the frostings, being ever so careful to make sure they were the ones included in the deal, and then 9 mixes. No cats. I decided to just live with the ones that didn’t work and call it a day. I still have $27 in cats to use another time, so I’m a happy gal tonight!

I may be totally blind & scanning over it, can someone direct me to the location of the J&J buy $15, get $5?? I’ve got a bunch of mailed-to-me $2/off man coupons (not good on items less than $2), so I could make this work with my 2-1/2 year old’s bubble bath.
But, all I see is an ad for 2/$6 J&J “selected” items. Am I TOTALLY missing it??? I’ve got 2 Jewel ads, and I just can’t find it.

I have been doing really good with these Catalina deals and after last weeks Dr Pepper & Kellrgs Cat’s I really thought I was there! This week however did not go as planned . I screwed up a couple deals But at least I figured out why. On the other hand there is one thing I can’t figure out……Here is what happened. I went to the self check with 3 transactions, 2 that should have generated CATS and then all my poptarts and other non CAT deals. I started by scanning 6 of the Macaroni Grill dinner kits. The pre tax and pre preferred total was $34.50, after pref and Q’s total out of pocket was $15.97 and out popped my $15 in CAT’s (YAY). I then started ringing up my cake mix & frosting, pretax was $31.05, after Q’s and Pref card my OOP was $18.37 BUT I decided to use the CAT’s from the prior purchase bring my total to $3.37……..gues what NO CAT’s printed…..WHAT DID I DO WRONG? If you use CAT’s on a CAT qualifying purchase does it not qualify? Is there any timing to how often you can do these deals? I have done them one after another in the past but never used the CAT”s on the following purchase. Are these CAT’s linked to my Preferred Card…So Jewel knows how many I have rec’d? If this is covered somewhere on your site please refer me there. Sorry for the long message…..

Are the knorr rice sides plus vegetables not inlcuded in the buy 12/$15 cat deal? Got 12 today but no catalina. I did the Breyers deal – worked fine. Then I tried another purchase with Cheerios, Wish Bone, Country Crock, and Ben & Jerry’s…sale was over $30 but no cat? I read about people doing sale after sale but I seem to always get burned on a back-to-back? I don’t like returning stuff because I know the clerks are thinking “what’s up with this guy?”. Also, I always read that people use their cats immediately on another sale to get more cats but I never do it that way because I am worried the coupon cats will cancel additional cats from printing.
Any feedback? I love the deals but when one of these glitches get me then I get bummed out.
Thanks

If it is at all helpful, for those of you who have a PDA or some other fancy device, I set up a spreadsheet that lists the items on sale then I can plug in the number of items I bought, the actual price of the item (as it often isn’t what is listed in the paper) and it automatically tells me when I hit 30.00. I also copy the spreadsheet that has the UPC codes, so that I can easily check what truly works for the deals. This makes my juggling of coupons, products, and papers much simpler.

i posted the other day about buying the qtips and the deal not working for me….cuz i was a ditz and was off by $.34cents….and am happy to report that i returned the 9pkgs of qtips and rebought 4-500ct pkgs of q-tips and 2 bottles of dove shampoo and paid $3.xx OOP and got my $27 back!!!
i was so happy and excited it worked!!
and i’m also happy to say i was able to get 5 bottles of all….the last 5 bottles at my store, and added 2 bottles of wishbone dressing to make it over $30 and i got my $15 back. i was nervous because the all wasn’t marked on sale so i had no clue which ones were included in the sale and so i had to start turning the bottles around and look for the UPC’s and found 5 that started w/a 4 and went to the scanner and they showed a preferred price of $3.50 so i was keeping my fingers crossed that these were the ones and sure enough they worked…….so exciting!!
thanks so much!!!

Wondering if I am remember correctly ………if you are buying anything on the Osco side as part of the $30 you have to use the sale price and not the regular price when calculating???
Also on Wed. I bought 12 degree deoderants. They were $2.50 each so the total was $30. I got my $15 back but not the extra $12. Anyone know why? Just curious for next time. :)

question [jewel deal]: i know that ad says 1 set coupons per trans., but in the past you could do mult. in the same trans. and generate the coupons. $15 coupons/$30 spent, $30 coupons/$60, etc. up to 3.
do we have to do each separately or can we do 3 “groups” on one trans.?

was at the woodstock jewel last night. big signs at the self check registers…they will NOT let you use the $5 cats at the self-checker. you must go thru the regular lines if you want to use them. anyone have problems rolling their cats. at the regular lines? i’m still pretty new and NERVES doing the rolling thing. how have the cashiers been treating this? nicely or should i just use them, and do one trans. and leave after getting my new ones. like i said, i get the sweats doing these, even tho i do the “no brainer” ones. last night i just did 3 trans and saved the cats to use later, maybe today.

Hi, just got back from the Frankfort Jewel. I was very hesitant when purchasing my All’s , even after scanning them, as they were not at all the same bar codes that were on the spread sheet or on all the forum entries. However, I gotta say, I bought 8, 5 of which were small and mighty ones, and 3 regular ones and it worked. None of the barcodes were on that spread sheet, but my 15$ came out of the Catalina. Gotta say I was kind of amazed. Now I have more detergent to send off to college with my son! And yes, he actually does do laundry there, even though he doesn’t at home! Just thought I would share my joyous occasion at Jewel.

Did anybody do just an order of knorr sides? According to the note above 12 @ $1 ea. would be out OOP (not including any Q’s) $12 but the sale price at my store was $1.20 and on other ocassions (not this current promo) that is what they used not the shelf price at $2.79. So 12 is not going to get me to $30. Did anyone only buy 12 and it work I chickened out on that one since I was rolling CATS I didn’t want to pay with my CATS not get any in return and lose. So just wondering! Are all promos different? Maybe I will take a chance and pay OOP w/o CATS and just return them if a no go!

I had problems when the Jewel employee tried to scan my $5 cats at the self-checkout last night. He could not get the machine to scan most of them. I think that, in the end, he entered my coupons as “grocery” on that particular purchase so then I didn’t hit the $30 on that purchase because of how he entered those cats. So then I didn’t get my next set of three $5.00 off cats. As much as I really liked to go to the self-checkout in the past, I will be going to the regular check-out people from now on.

Has anybody else had issues with incorrect shelf pricing? I’ve tried to mix and match some of these deals, but the non-preferred prices at the register don’t match what it said on the shelf. For example:
Honey Nut Cheerios
Non-preferred price on shelf: $4.29
Non-preferred price at register: $3.29
Preferred price: $2.00
I try to buy the minimum amount for each deal to pass the non-preferred price $30 threshold to trigger the Catalinas. Because the non-preferred price at the register is lower than what is says on the shelf, I’m missing the $30 minimum and no Cats are printing. I can’t exactly complain to customer service that the register is showing a LOWER price than marked on the shelf. They would look at me like I have 2 heads. Has anybody else encountered this and what are some ideas for working around this? I wish the Jewel had in-aisle scanners like they have at Toys R Us to see what the prices are REALLY going to scan.
