A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on some Chicagoland stores, the Kroger, Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu or Safeway store you may find similar sales to our Jewel-Osco and Dominick’s deals. Welcome, and enjoy!



Unless otherwise noted, GROCERY store deals run through WEDNESDAY of this week,
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.

(Also, if you’re new, you may not have some of the coupon books that I refer to for some deals. Some coupon books can be found at the grocery store during seasonal promotions — look for them, as I’ll reference them when applicable. And, throughout the year, companies issue free coupon books that you can request to be mailed to you — register for them if you’d like, as I’ll reference them in future weeks’ deals.

“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)

Jewel-Osco Grocery Deals

Essential Everyday canned vegetables (14-15.5oz.) are on sale for .75 each. Buy four and use the $1 coupon. Pay $2 for four, or .50 each!

Essential Everyday condensed cream soups (ad shows cream of mushroom, 10.5oz.) are on sale for .88. Buy four and use the $1 coupon. Pay $2.52 for four, or .63 each.

Essential Everyday 6-8oz. chunk or shredded cheese is on sale for $2.19. Buy one package of cheese and one can of soup. Use the $1 coupon. Pay $2.07 for both.

Essential Everyday 12oz. cheese singles are on sale for $2.69. Buy a package of cheese and a can of .75 Essential Everyday vegetables. Use the $1 coupon. Pay $2.44 for both.

Essential Everyday 5lb. bags of flour are on sale for $1.99. Buy two and use the $1 coupon. Pay $2.98 for two, or $1.49 each!

Essential Everyday Saltine crackers (16oz.) are on sale for $2. Buy two and use the $1 coupon. Pay $3 for two, or $1.50 per box.

Essential Everyday 20ct. Trash Bags: $3.29. Use the $1 coupon and pay $2.29.

Essentail Everyday 8ct. regular or 6ct. mighty roll paper towels: $5.99. Use the $1 coupon and pay $4.99. For the 6ct. roll, that’s about .83/roll. For the 8ct., that’s about .62 per roll – good prices.

Essential Everyday 12-double-roll bath tissue: $5.99. Use the $1 coupon and pay $4.99. That works out to about .42 per double roll, a good price.

If you haven’t printed it since it was last posted, here’s a printable coupon for $1 off a half-pound of DiLusso deli meat and/or cheese (To see it, you’ll need to enter an Illinois zip code. Then, for me, it was on page 7.)

Print two coupons. Then, go get your deli stuff! This week, DiLusso turkey breast is $3.69 per half-pound. If you buy a half-pound of turkey and a half-pound of cheese, use one coupon on EACH (even the free one!) With two $1 coupons coming off your $3.69, you’ll be down to $1.69 for a half-pound of turkey AND a half-pound of cheese!

This offer is limit 2 free half-pounds of cheese per transaction.

Now, if you like these hams, the best way to put a deal together with them is to buy the SMALLEST hams. If you can find two one-pound hams, you would pay $5.99 for both. Use two $2 coupons, and you’re down to $1.99 for two, or about a dollar per ham.

Two 2-pound hams would be $11.98 – minus two $2 coupons = $7.98 for two, or $3.99 per ham. (See why the small ones are the best buys?)

 (What’s up, Jewel? It’s awfully hard to plan what to buy when there are NO prices in the ad – .30 savings off each or not..! Awfully hard to blog too.)

 Since there are no prices, I’m guessing none of these no-prices-shown things are on sale for terribly fabulous prices. If you spot something good, feel free to post – but I didn’t see anything earth-shattering here.

“No Coupon Needed” Deals

Through 12/22, when you buy $100 in selected gift cards at the Gift Card Mall, you’ll get a $10 Catalina for your next shopping trip. You’ll also get .20/gallon in Fuel Rewards for buying $100 worth of gift cards – always a nice bonus.

For the best deal, the 11/28 RP Local (the one that comes in the mailbox or wrapped around the Wednesday Trib) has a .55 coupon. The 10/21 SS has a .30 coupon.

With one .55 coupon and two .30 coupons, pay $1.85 for three and get 1000 points ($1) back. That’s .85 for three, or .28 each!

For the best deal, buy two. Use two $2 printables. Pay $9.98 and get 3000 points ($3) back, making this $6.98 for two, or $3.49 each – half price!

CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! You may want to scan your coupon more than once – it’s been printing different coupons on subsequent scans!

And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ExtraBucks for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print EBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Walmart Meat and Produce Deals

  • Sam’s Choice spiral-sliced ham is $1.98/lb.

Price Match Deals – These are from the ALDI flyer this week!

  • 5lb. bags of red potatoes are .99 – that’s about .20/lb.
  • 4lb. bags of navel oranges are $1.99 – that’s about .50/lb.
  • Broccoli is .99/lb.
  • 3lb. bags of Clementines are $2.99 – about $1/lb.
  • Green beans are $1.29/lb.
  • Pineapples are $1.39 each

Policies to know:

  • Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
     
  • With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
     
  • With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
     
  • Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
     

I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.

I do not blog full Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

  1. I am searching through my 12/2 SS and can not find the $1 off 6 coupon you mentioned. I did notice a $0.50 off 3 coupon and a random $1 off 4 coupon.

  2. Hi- Dominick’s has their 8 oz. Lucerne chunk cheese on sale B1G1F, with coupon in the sale flyer, and the cheese is also on deal match under Jewel in J4U. The B1G1F coupon can’t be used on shredded cheese. With the coupon, you get a pound of cheese for $2.19.

    On J4U there is also a coupon for a free 6 oz. container of Yoplait yogurt. I got it last night, but I got charged for it, and so I had to go to CS to get a refund.

    Tai Pai single serving entrees are also on sale 2/$3.00, and there is a dollar coupon off one, which I was able to print off the internet that I found on MUM. I will see if I can track it down. Hope this helps, Nancy

  3. Aldi has a weekly flier that comes in the mail, and also there is one in their store. Thanks for blogging about Aldi, Jill. I have used their fliers in Walmart a lot. Some deals are always better at Aldi, at my Aldi the milk is usually around $1.88 for a gallon, and canned and frozen vegetables are under $1.00. Their frozen corn is the best I’ve ever tasted, very sweet. You can’t use coupons there, but a lot of things are priced really cheap. It’s worth checking out!

  5. If you do not need tons of Libby veggies. Dollar General has Libby canned veggies 2/$1 so use the coupon($1 off 4 11/11 RP) for 4 cans and ends up .25 a can at Walmart with price match.

  7. I just printed a $1Q off of Kraft Natural Slices on Coupons.com while prinintg the Angel Soft Q.

  8. Does anyone know where they sell the 20 count of tampons? I have been to several Targets and NEVER see the smaller boxes. Do you know if they will take the B1G1 on the larger boxes?
    Any information would be appreciated.

  9. Meijer has big 40 packs of Minute Maid juice boxes for $8.99 not in ad. There is a $3 coupon on Mperks that drops these to $5.99. That’s like getting a 10 pack for about $1.50.

  10. My Jewel has 55 cents coupons for 1# of deli lunch meats !Not a super deal but better then nothing Was on top of deli counter

  12. But I think that the 35% coupon was one of the Sunday only load coupons. they had a bunch that were only available to load on Sunday. I received an email about it at some point too.
