If you’re new to my blog, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon terminology and abbreviations.
A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on some Chicagoland stores, the Kroger, Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu or Safeway store you may find similar sales to our Jewel-Osco and Dominick’s deals. Welcome, and enjoy!
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.
“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel-Osco… View weekly ad | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Jewel-Osco ecoupons
IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations have updated their cash registers to a new system. If you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed. Watch your registers.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE:Ecoupons you can currently use with the Jewel-Osco Rewards card are via SavingStar and Jewel-Osco’s new ecoupons. Note that the ecoupons you can load to card are often the same as the ones you can print at Coupons.com. If you print them, you get two prints, but if you load them, you only get ONE. Just an FYI.
LAST IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: Jewel-Osco has gone to a one-page paper ad in the newspaper some weeks in some market areas, but the full Sunday ad is available online at www.jewelosco.com. This ad is valid at ALL stores, even if you did not receive the full ad in your local paper.
Jewel-Osco information:
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? At times, Jewel sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons and Deal Match offers
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area:
View weekly ad | Load Meijer Mperks ecoupons
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.
Heading over to Kroger… View weekly ad | Load Kroger ecoupons | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Cellfire ecoupons | Load ShortCuts ecoupons | Load PGEsaver.com ecoupons
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Kroger | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad | Load “Schnupons” ecoupons
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. The current ad is good through Tuesday.
Off to Target…
View weekly ad | Print store coupons from Target.com …
Target Notes:
You get .05 off your total at Target for each reusable bag you bring and use. If you pay with the Target credit or debit card, you receive another 5% off.
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens (View weekly ad | On Fridays, preview next week’s ad)…
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE WALGREENS AD: Walgreens is no longer putting its entire ad in the paper newspaper version. There are online-only ad pages that you can look at via this link: View weekly ad
And finally, over at CVS (View weekly ad) | Load SavingStar ecoupons
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! You may want to scan your coupon more than once – it’s been printing different coupons on subsequent scans!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ExtraBucks for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print EBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog full Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is filled with many coupons each month. Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

For the Dominick’s JD Delights look for smaller boxes- 1 is with one breakfast bowl, and the other with two quesadillas. They are $1.79 and $1.99 after discount and the Qs scan without beeps and give you overage.

I don’t see the “Spend $30, Get $10″ Mucinex, Delsym, Cepacol or Lysol” in this week’s ad. I see “Buy 2 Mucinex, get $3 ECB.”

Once you load the free Muller onto your J4U card, be sure to cut out and bring your $1/2 from this week’s RP insert. The yogurts are $1.25, so you can get a second cup for just .25.

Hi- I ran across this deal when I was at Dominick’s on Saturday. Campbell’s Natural soup is on sale for $1.50. There is a $.75/2 ecoupon for it on J4U, and there is a $1/2 coupon in one of the SS for it. There is also a catalina for it at Dominick’s. I purchased 4 cans of soup on Saturday, and received a $2 catalina. I am not sure if the ecoupon is a store coupon or not, since I only had one other coupon to use with it. If it is a store coupon then you can get 4 cans of soup for a total of $1.25 if you also use 2 manufacturers coupons. I tried the white chicken chili last night, and I do not recommend it. It was not spicy at all. I haven’t tried any of the rest of them yet.
BTW- Dominick’s also has Healthy Choice soup on sale for $1, and there is a $1 off 3 coupon in the SS. Hope this helps, Nancy

Well, it’s finally happened. After more than a year since my last purchase of laundry detergent, I am finally out. Last time I bought detergent was in January, 2012, when CVS had a great sale on Tide. I guess I’ll swing by a CVS on my way home from work tomorrow AM. Sadly, I missed the great Tide sale at CVS a few weeks ago. I live in McHenry and have to drive somewhere else to get to a CVS. The last time I bought detergent before that was when Jewel had their All/Bleach combination sale in the fall of either 2011 or 2010. I cannot believe that I’m out! LOL

I went to Meijer to do the Bounty 2-pack paper towel deal, and they had plenty – at least 50 2-packs.
Then I ran over to Target on Randall mainly to look for the Purina One dog food (they had 6 bags left – I took 3) and then scoped out the cereal situation. Judging from the reports on the blog, I fully expected them to be out of Peanut Butter Toast crunch, Fiber One Chocolate and more – but they are FULLY stocked! I did one round with 2 Peanut Butter, 2 MultiGrain Cheerios, and 1 Fiber One.
Then grabbed my free ketchup for the food pantry and called it a day :)

Did anyone have any luck for the great cereal deal at Target and the paper towel deal at meijer in MCHENRY?
It seems like everything I wanted was a fake!
The Heinz ketchup was 2.68, (not 1.99) at My Target and they ran out of ALL the GM cereal I needed.
Then I headed across the street to meijer, where I couldn’t for the life of me find the Bounty paper towels 2 pack. I found an 8 ct and a single roll. When I inquired about a 2 pk, the employees looked at me funny and said “well all stores carry different inventory”
So has anyone seen the 2 packs at the McHenry store?
The best part of the day was free samples at lunchtime at meijer! Ha! Wasn’t very successful with my coupons…any thoughts???

I just got home from Target. I found Softsoap 58oz bottles with a bonus 7.5oz dispenser bottle attached on clearance for $3.85. I tossed 3 into my cart. Checked out and the 3 bottles prompted the cashier to give me a $5 gift card!!! So I got 3 giant bottles and 3 dispenser bottles for $11.55 and got a $5 gift card back; bringing I each bottle down to $2.18!!!! Awesome deal! Didn’t see signs anywhere for the gift card deal!!!!

I tried to comp. the snapware container sale from Mejier at Walmart yesterday but they couldn’t find it in the flier so they wouldn’t allow it. Is this an in store sale?

Hello Jill. I found out while submitting my coupons for my groceries on Sunday, that Dominicks now has a policy of not accepting printable coupons. The cashier said this is due to too much fraud and that the policy was posted, which I did’t see. Is this policy for all Dominicks stores or just the Oak Park store? Thank you!
