Hello, Super-Couponers! By now my Chicagoland audience has dug out from last week’s big blizzard. I loved reading everyone’s posts about how well-stockpiled they were that they didn’t need to head out for essentials during the storm! (Being a coupon shopper means always having lots of food at home!) Speaking of food, I hope everyone’s Super Bowl party was filled with cheap snacks, ribs, wings, and beverages… and congrats to our neighbors to the north on their big game win.
It’s time for Deals of the Week once again! I’ve got all the best supermarket and drugstore deals of the week written just for you… all in one place, on one page! As always, grab your scissors and coupon inserts, and get ready to start clipping this week, as bunches of bargains and freebies are heading your way…
It’s also been a busy week in supermarket-land. Dominick’s made a lot of waves this week with a bunch of issues being raised by shoppers and a big policy shift on acceptance of expired coupons. More on that in this week’s Dominick’s writeup if you’re interested…
This week’s newspaper contained two coupon inserts – one SmartSource (SS) and one RedPlum (RP.)

NOTE! Catalina alerts are printing for a $25/$10 Catalina sale on ConAgra Foods products from 2/6-2/17! This is one of our favorite Catalina sales to look forward to. It is NOT in the ad yet, but if past sales are any indication, we can look for it in Thursday’s ad.
MORE FREE PASTA! Ronzoni Garden Delight is on sale for $1 again, and if you think you already used your $1 coupons for this the last time it was on sale, check again… because there was a NEW $1 off Ronzoni Garden Delight coupon in the 1/23 SS! It’s FREE!
And, if you don’t have a lot of pasta in your stockpile, clip both of the other $1-off-2 Ronzoni coupons on the same page — Ronzoni Smart Taste and Ronzoni Healthy Harvest are also all on sale for $1 a box. You can stock up on even more with these coupons for .50/box.
Campbell’s Select Harvest Soups are on sale for .99 a can. Use the $1-off-2 coupon from 1/2 SS2 or a printable and pay .98 for two, or .49 each!
T. Marzetti Vegetable Dips are on sale for $3.99, Buy One Get One Free. Use the $1 coupon from 11/14/10 SS. With two $1 coupons, pay $1.99 for TWO, or about $1 a tub!
The December 2010 All You has a .75 coupon too if you’re stocking up and out of $1 coupons…
Lloyd’s 18oz. BBQ meat tubs are on sale for $3.99. Use the $1 coupon from 1/30 SS and pay $2.99…
12-packs of 7-Up, A&W and Sunkist are 3-for-$9 when you buy 3. If you have three of the Dominick’s $70 Big Party Playbook coupon books (I know, I know… I had a difficult time getting two!) there is a coupon inside for .75 off a 12-pack. With three, pay $6.75 for three, or $2.25 each!
Reader Stephjo116 spotted a great deal on Football Cupcake Cakes at Jewel! They’re a big cake made up of individual cupcakes that you break apart. 16-cupcake Football Cupcake Cakes are $9.99 at Jewel. In the Dominick’s $70 Big Party Playbook is a store coupon for $5 off a Football Cupcake Cale, which will cut the price in half to $4.99!
Yes, Jewel-Osco accept competitor STORE coupons on house-branded items, provided you are buying the Jewel-Osco equivalent house brand to the one shown on their competitor’s coupon. It’s outlined in their coupon policy. You can download it here if you think your store’s staff might not be familiar with this part of their policy.
Jewel has a special running on Orville Redenbacher microwave popcorn and 7-Up or Sunkist 2-liters. Buy one box of Orville Redenbacher and get a SECOND box free PLUS two free 2-liters of 7-Up or Sunkist (up to a $2.50 value… more on that in a bit.) Look for tearpads in the store for these pop coupons as it is NOT an instant-savings sale – and note that the tearpads are MANUFACTURER coupons, not store.
Orville Redenbacher popcorn is on sale for $3.59, Buy One Get One Free. There’s a $1-off-2 Orville Redenbacher coupon in the 1/23 SS and in the Dominick’s $70 Big Party Playbook. There are .40 coupons in the dispenser right in front of the product in many stores too, and $1-off-2 coupons on a freestanding Orville display in many stores too.
Now, back to that “Buy 1 Orville, get 1 free instantly PLUS 2 free 2-liters of pop” coupon. The coupon’s value is only $2, which ONLY covers the price of two $1 2-liters. The store’s sale actually gives you the free popcorn. So, the best way to do the deal is this:
Buy 2 boxes of Orville Redenbacher microwave popcorn ($3.59, B1G1F)
Buy 2 2-liters 7-Up or Sunkist
Use a $1-off-2 coupon for the two popcorns
Use “Buy Orville, get free popcorn and pop” tearpad coupon from store
You’ll pay $2.59 for 2 boxes of Orville Redenbacher and 2 2-liters of 7-Up or Sunkist. Still not too bad a deal.
(The December and January issues of All You each have a $1-off Orville Redenbacher, but this is for the 6-packs, which are on sale for $5.79 and not B1G1F.)
Little gift card deal: Through 2/16, you’ll get a $5 Catalina when you buy $25 worth of gift cards for AMC Theaters, Applebee’s, Catherine’s, Fashion Bug, iTunes, MasterCard, Olive Garden, Sears, SpaFinder or Visa.
“Spend $15, Save $5” Dove Catalina Sale Jewel is running a “Spend $15, Save $5” Catalina sale on selected Dove products. Buying $15 worth of Dove will generate a $5 Catalina! Here are your products and matchups. Dove Bar Soap 6ct. – $5.49 Dove Body Wash (18-24oz.) – $5.49 Dove Men’s Body Wash or Body Wash Tool – $4.99 Dove Ultra Deodorant – $3.89 Dove Shampoo, Conditioner or Styler – $3.99 |
My thoughts? None of these are going to be super-cheap, but an all-deodorant deal would cost $15.56 for four. With four $2 coupons, pay $7.56 and get $5 back – $2.56 for 4 is .64 each.
An all-shampoo deal would cost $15.96 for four. With four $1 coupons, pay $11.96 and get $5 back – $6.96 for four is $1.74 each.
“No Coupon Needed” Deals
Jewel margarine quarters are .79 for 16oz.
Jewel saltine crackers (15-16oz.) are $1.69.
Homelife toilet bowl cleaner is $1.89 for a 24oz. bottle.
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Nature’s Farm hormone-free milk is a great buy through Feb. 13th! It’s on sale for $3.99 a half-gallon carton, Buy One, Get One Free. Look in the refrigerated case near the milk for tearpad coupons for $1 or $2 off the milk. (Note that these do tend to go fast!)
With two $1 coupons, pay $1.99 for two cartons, or about $1 each!
With a $2 coupon and a $1 coupon, pay .99 for TWO, or about .50 each! GREAT price for hormone-free milk.
Jewel-Osco information:
Jewel-Osco has a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there (and they answer promptly!)
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list yet? Jewel has been making coupons available for many different products over the past few months, and they’re usually store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with too. I’d recommend getting on their list if you shop there.
Coupon books currently found at Jewel:
Value Your Heart – $35 worth of coupons, including one for a free 8-pack of Coke when you buy 3 12-packs
Jewel meat deals:
- Jennie-O Hen or Tom frozen turkeys are .99/lb.
- Cook’s fresh smoked shank ham is $1.29/lb. (Butt ham $1.49/lb.)
- Jewel chicken drumsticks or thighs are $1.69/lb.
- Pork shoulder roast is $1.99/lb.
Jewel produce deals:
- 5lb. bags of red grapefruit are $3.49 – that’s about .70/lb.
- 4lb. bags of navel oranges are $3.49 – that’s about .87/lb.
- 3lb. bags of Cara Cara oranges are $3.49 – that’s about $1.16/lb.
- Jalapeno peppers or tomatillos are $1.29/lb.
- Roma tomatoes are $1.49/lb.
- Farm Stand celery hearts are $1.99/lb.
- Limes are .59 each
- Hass avocados are $1 each.
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less for fish or shrimp.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s (View weekly ad)…
Note to my Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Note that at the time of this writing, there are three issues that may concern you as a Dominick’s shopper: a register update that is now notifying the cashier when you use expired coupons, Dominick’s has responded that the “locked in” Just For U offers’ prices really weren’t “locked in,” and Dominick’s explanation as to why store coupons scan at .01 at the register.
Dominick’s Facebook page has also exploded over the last week, with shoppers venting about a variety of long-running issues at the stores relating to coupon acceptance and customer service. Feel free to join in the conversation… it’s been interesting, to say the least.
At any rate, based on my conversation with Dominick’s corporate, because Dominick’s registers are now notifying cashiers when expired coupons are scanned, and the cashiers have been instructed not to allow them, I am no longer blogging deals involving expired coupons at Dominick’s.
Wednesday and Friday’s Chicago Tribunes had $10-off-$50 coupons for Dominick’s this week too, and the same coupon is available at Dominicks.com in the ecoupons. According to the text, the $10-off-$50 is calculated after store coupons but before manufacturer coupons.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also now load these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?
In the Feb. 3-Feb. 9 flyer – “Everything You Need” on cover:
- SUPER DEAL: 2lb. bags of Waterfront Bistro shrimp are on sale for $7.98, limit 5, with Super Coupon. This is already a good price at $3.99/lb., a good cycle-low benchmark for shrimp. But, the $70 Big Party Playbook has a $1 coupon for the 2lb bag, bringing it to $6.98, or $3.49/lb., an excellent price!
- Yoplait GoGurt is on sale for $1.77 an 8-pack, limit 3, with Super Coupon. Use a .75-off-2 coupon from 1/30 SS and/or 1/2 GM or a printable. Buy two and pay $2.79 for 2, or $1.40 a box.
In the Feb 3.-Feb. 9 flyer – “Super Price Coupons” on cover:
- Oscar Mayer hot dogs are .99 a package, limit 5, with Super Coupon. Use the $1-off-2 manufacturer coupon from this week’s Jewel ad, buy two, and pay .98 for two, or .49 each!
- Hormel Chili is on sale for .89 a can, limit 6, with Super Coupon. Use the $1.50-off-3 coupons from February All You, buy 3 and pay $1.17 for three, or .39 a can!
- Mission flour tortillas (10ct) are on sale for $1.29 each, limit 10, with Super Coupon.
- Fire up the grill… Kingsford Charcoal (6.3-8.3lb.) is $3.99 a bag, limit 1, with Super Coupon. Use this $1.50 off Kingsford when you buy meat coupon that will net you $2.49 charcoal! There’s also a coupon in the $70 Dominick’s Big Party Playbook.
- Reynolds Wrap Aluminum Foil (35-80 square feet… please, people, buy the BIGGEST box!) is on sale for $2.49, limit 2, with Super Coupon. Use the .75 coupon from 1/30 SS and pay $1.74 a box. (We haven’t seen an aluminum foil deal in a very long time… I am down to my last two rolls and I know I haven’t bought it in over 18 months.)
In the Feb. 2 Chicago Tribune p. 7 of Good Eating section, AND Feb. 4 p. 16, Section 1 – “Saves You Money” at top of page:
- Safeway Party Wings (4lb. bag) are $5.96, limit 2, with Super Coupon – that’s $1.49/lb.
- Idaho Russet Potatoes (5lb. bag) are .99, limit 1, with Super Coupon – that’s about .20/lb.
- The $10-off-$50 coupon appears on this page too.
Dominick’s is running a “Buy 2, Get 3 Free” sale on Quaker Instant Oatmeal. The oatmeal is priced at a ridiculous $4.49 per box. However, with coupons and the current Catalina deal running on the oatmeal, it’s not so bad. The 1/2 RP2 has a $1 coupon, as does February All You.
Remember that it’s Dominick’s policy to not allow a coupon on a free item, so here’s the best you can do:
Use two $1 coupons. Pay $6.98 and receive a $3 Catalina for buying 5 Quaker Oatmeal. That drops you to $3.98 for 5 boxes, or .80 each.
(Of course, if Dominick’s coupon policy allowing manufacturer coupons on free items were like everyone else’s, you could use five $1 coupons, pay $3.98 and get $3 back… making this a much sweeter deal.)
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Quaker Oatmeal Squares cereal is on sale for $1.99 a box WHEN YOU BUY 4. If you’re a multiple-inserts person and have four $1 coupons from 1/30 RP2, buy 4. After coupons, you’ll pay $3.96, or .99 a box!
Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut is part of the deal too. If you didn’t use the $1 coupons from the 1/23 RP on the Target deal last week, use the $1 coupons from the 1/23 RP and pay .99 a box. Remember, you must buy 4 to get the instant savings, but you can mix and match between the Oatmeal Squares and Crunchy Nut.
Through 2/14 (just in time for Valentine’s Day!) Dominick’s is running a Catalina deal on Hallmark cards. Buy 3 and get a $5 Catalina! Note that this deal only applies to cards priced at $1.99 or higher. However, if you buy three $1.99 cards, you’ll pay $5.97 and get $5 back! You’ll pay .97 for THREE cards, or about .32 each – a great price for cards!
Reader Stephjo116 notes that there’s also a “Buy 3 Hallmark cards, get free Teddy Bear” promo running. If your store has the bears in stock, look for these for an added bonus!
If you haven’t yet signed up for the “Just For U“ electronic discounts that you can load to your Dominick’s Fresh Values card, you may want to. For registering your card, you’ll receive an ecoupon for a FREE 12-ct. Lucerne large eggs! You’ll also activate a set of electronic discounts that are tied to your card for the next 90 days. Each person’s discounts are different, and they’re based on past purchases made with your Fresh Values card at Dominick’s.
Coupon booklets currently found at Dominick’s
Note that this is a listing of what you MAY find. Coupon books tend to move very quickly once they become available! Look on displays throughout the store to find them. Some Dominick’s are now keeping these coupon books behind the Customer Service counter, so you may want to ask at your store.
The Big Party Playbook – $70 worth of coupons
Game Day Playbook with Guy Fieri – $5 worth of coupons for Oscar Mayer/Kraft/Nabisco products
Winter Savings Coupon Booklet – small yellow square book released quarterly.
Dominick’s meat deals:

Want FREE marinade? Many Dominick’s will marinate your fresh meat free at the meat counter, so depending on what you’re buying, you may want to take advantage of that.
Dominick’s produce deals:
- Fuji apples are .99/lb.
- Green seedless grapes are $1.29/lb.
- Broccoli crowns are $1.49/lb.

Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area: (View weekly ad)…
International Delight coffee creamer is .99 for the 16oz. bottle. Print this .55 coupon and pay .44 a bottle!
Ortega products are a great buy this week at Meijer. There’s a nice $1-off-4 coupon in Meijer Mealbox that stacks nicely with the .50-off-2 manufacturer coupons in the 1/23 SS. For example…
Ortega Taco Seasoning Mix is on sale for .51 a packet. Buy 4 and use the Mealbox coupon and either one or two .50-off-2s. With one .50-off-2, pay .54 for 4, or about .14 each. With two .50-off-2 coupons, pay .04 for 4, or ..02 each!
Ortega canned beans are .67 a can. Buy four, and again use the Mealbox coupon and either one or two .50-off-2 manufacturer coupons. With one .50-off-2, pay $1.18 for four, or about .30 a can. With two .50-off-2 coupons, pay .68 for 4, or .17 a can! (Note that the Algonquin Meijer had NO canned beans when I went to check this one out yesterday…)
Ortega Taco Shells are $1.49 a box. Buy 4 and use the Mealbox coupon and either one or two .50-off-2s. With one .50-off-2, pay $4.46 for four, or about $1.12. With two .50-off-2 coupons, pay $3.96 for 4, or ..02 each!
Meijer’s got a little Catalina deal running on Snickers, M&Ms, Milky Way and Twix. Buy any 4 9.5-11oz. bags ($2.50 each) and get a $4 Catalina back! The 1/23 RP has $1.50-off-2 coupons for these.
With two coupons, pay $7 and get a $4 Catalina, which knocks this down to $3 for 4 bags, or .75 each! Not bad at all (that is, if you didn’t pad your “secret stash” of candy with bargain-priced chocolates after Halloween…)
Bush’s Best Beans are on sale for $1 a can. Use the $1-off-4 coupon at Meijer Mealbox, buy 4 and stack it with the $1-off-5 coupon from the $70 Dominick’s Playbook coupon book. You’ll pay $3 for 5, or .60 each…
Meijer has the 6-equivalent-to-8 roll pack of Bounty paper towels on sale for $6.99. Use the $1 coupon from the 2011 P&G Everyday Savings book and pay $5.99. Not great, but not terrible if you need them.
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
24-packs of Coke and Pepsi products are 2-for-$10. You must buy 2 to get the $5-each price. This offer is limit 2.
Imperial margarine quarters are .50 for the 16oz. box.
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Chi-Chi’s Salsa 16oz. jars are on sale for .99, already a great price for the big jar. But use the .50 coupon from 1/16 SS and pay .49 a jar!
Are you a Meijer Mperks member yet? Mperks is a different set of electronic Meijer coupons. They’re attached to your cellphone number, but aside from one text message to activate your account, you do not need to use text messaging to continually use them. Once you register with Meijer Mperks, you log into the Mperks website and click the electronic coupons you’d like to load to your account. Then, when you’re at the checkout, type your cellphone number into the keypad at the register, and your coupons come off automatically.

- Cantaloupe or Honeydew melon chunks are $1.49/lb.
- 1lb. containers of strawberries are $2 each

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the oter Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.
Here are your Hilander and Kroger deals (View weekly Hilander ad | View weekly Kroger ad)…

Maruchan Yakisoba noodle bowls are still on sale for $1. Use the .50 coupon from 1/2 SS, which doubles to $1, making this FREE!

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

I was at the CL Doms last night getting the 12pks of soda that were on sale and I asked the cashier at self checkout (He actually looked like a young manager) if doms was still excepting expired Qs and he said that if they scan they will take them, if they don’t scan(beep) they won’t. Here is my question: if they have new registers that identify exp coupons wouldn’t all expired coupons beep then?? I’ll be pretty upset to find out that “certain stores” are pushing thru expired coupons and other refuse them!!
shlee says
this week….They are B1G1 for $3.29, use 2 $1 Q’s from the Dominicks Playbook and pay just 65 cents each. I bought 6 yesterday!

FYI…My Lloyds BBQ coupon was only for $.75-off-1 and Go-gurt coupon was only for $.75-off-2 from the Chicago Tribune and NW Herald.
Jill do you know where we can look up expired coupons to match with Doms deals until they stop taking the coupons? CouponTom doesn’t seem to have the expireds that I can see. Thank you so much.

several of these body washes has $1 off coupons attached to them, so after RR they’ll be free, a nice surprise this morning
SkokieMom says
I’m new at this, but I’d like to contribute since I’ve saved so much money from all of your tips. I did this deal yesterday at Wags and thought it was a decent bargain. The new Olay collections are 3/$10, Earn $3RR wyb 3. I purchased 3 of the 10oz. body washes and used:
2 B1G1 Olay Bar/Body wash and Secret 1/30/11 P&G
1 B1G1 Olay Body wash and Olay moisturizer 1/30/11 P&G.
So, I took home 3 body washes, 2 deodorants and a facial moisturizer for $7.

Went to Dom’s in Oswego yesterday and had the following problems with the deals listed above:
* Shrimp coupon from the playbook would not ring with the coupon from the store flyer. According to the cashier, the system showed that I could not use both since they were both store coupons.
* Tide $5 offer and the frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts both expired on Saturday 02/05/11. (along with the Huggies and a few other offers).
* Open Nature sausages would not ring at the $3.49 discounted price for the 2 packages. Rang as $3.99 each.
I’m new and I don’t know if this is better placed on the forum but I thought it might belong here since it is related to the deals listed above.

Be sure to check the expiration date on the Nature’s Farm Q. I have a few from a tear pad I grabbed a couple of months ago and the expiration date is 12/31/10. Hopefully there are new tearpads out there with a current Q. And that are stocked, of course. ;)

Aha – Now I know why the Doms cashier gave me such a hard time with the expired coupons on Sat! Bummer. I will be shopping elsewhere…
Also, tried to go Gilette Fusion deal at Wags in Western Springs with $4 coupon and the $5 register reward wouldn’t work. Cashier said it was because of manf c!!! Maybe razor I picked wasn’t on deal – though it had a yellow tag on shelf indicating it was part of deal. Is this a new thing???

I did this today one AMC & 1 OG, separate transactions and received the $5 cat both times using the same preferred card.
Note: These are store coupons and are good for one week. At least mine expire on the 14th, so I’m assuming if you buy them tomorrow the date would be the 15th.
Also note: Limit one coupon per transaction per day.
I figured I would buy these instead of candy for Valentine gifts.

There’s a $1.00 off coupon for any ONE dip on sale at Meijer 2 for $3.00. Use 2 coupons… $.50 each. I did not see this in the flyer, but it was on sale in the store as of 2/5/11.
My neighbors give me their extra coupons so I had a few of these. It was on packages 8.75oz and higher. This included the packages that have individual cups (because they were over 8.75oz). They were a huge success at our Superbowl party because we all know little kids like to double dip! They all had their own :o)

I found a coupon book at Jewel last night that has quite a few Kraft, Oreo, etc. coupons that can be used towards items listed on the Kroger/Hilander instant savings deal. Most were for 55 cents off but if Kroger doubles up to $1, they become fairly nice. For example the Kraft singles that are $1.49 with the instant savings already applied become 49 cents with the coupon (doubled up to $1).
I do not remember the name of the coupon book but I do remember there was a hamburger on the front cover. (I was teasing my husband that he’d know which book to grab because of his love affair with hamburgers!)

Hi, so I am going to try my hand at this “blackbelt” thing for the first time. I purchased the Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate at Jewel today. On my receipt it rang up at $2.68 ( minus $1.68 which of course brought it down to $1 each). So, if I would have bought 10 of the hot chocolate’s it would tell the system that I actually spend $26.80 and not the actual $10.00? So I would still get the $10 cat???
Thank you in advance for whom ever helps me! :-)
