A big welcome to our new Super-Couponers from Prospect Heights and Fox River Grove! It was a pleasure to kick off 2009’s first coupon classes with you guys!
There are so many deals this week I almost don’t know where to start… so I’ll start at Jewel, my favorite store! Over the past few weeks, Jewel has had so many great instant-savings and Catalina deals, both of which pay you money back to shop — and this week is no exception.
Let’s start with a great deal on Kellogg’s breakfast foods! Many Kellogg’s breakfast cereals and Pop-Tarts are on sale 4 for $7. You can mix and match types of cereal and tarts. When you buy 4, you’ll get an instant savings of $2. (This is true for every 4 you buy, so buying 8 will save you $4, buying 12, $6, and so on.)
So, you’ll now be at 4 for $5, or $1.25 a box. Not a great price, but let’s make it better! There are lots of $1 coupons out for Kellogg’s, and using dollar coupons with this sale brings everything in it down to just a quarter a box! Now THAT’s a much better price for cereal… and with the long shelf lives that these products have, it’s time to stock up!
So… let’s use lots of dollar coupons with this sale!
$1 off Rice Krispies or Crispix – 12/14 RP
(Only Rice Krispies are included in this sale)
$1 off Kellogg’s Cereals – 12/14 RP
(Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops included in the sale)
$1 off Frosted Mini-Wheats or All Bran – 12/14 RP
(Only Mini-Wheats are included in the sale)
$1 off Frosted Mini-Wheats – November All You – p. 53
Also, last month, Kellogg’s had a $1 Frosted Mini-Wheats printable coupon on their site with a high print limit — it let you print 14! I recommended printing those and holding onto them, just because any coupon with a high print limit is a rarity… so if you printed them, this would be the perfect sale to use them on :)
Remember, buy in quantities of 4 to receive the bonus $2 instant savings! While General Mills cereals seem to go on sale rather often, Kellogg’s don’t as much — so stock up!
Jewel’s big Buy $30, Save $15 promotion is still running through this Wednesday, 1/14, and so there’s still time to get in on this one if you haven’t already. Buying $30 of any of the items listed in the deal in Thursday’s flier will give you $15 in Catalina coupons to spend on your next trip. You’ll get 3 coupons worth $5 each, and these are good on anything you want to buy. They’re just like cash!
So, take a look at the items in the ad and decide what you want to buy… use www.coupontom.com to do your coupon lookups and matchups, and head to the store! The $30 total is pre-coupon, so using coupons on these items is the best way to save yourself even more money.
Don’t forget to check your Avenu electronic coupons too! Many people have had items currently included in the $15/$30 sale show up on Avenu too (Bounty, Febreze, Gillette razors, Pampers diapers and wipes) so activate these discounts to save even more!
Now, anytime these sales come up, everybody wants to know what the best things to buy are… and there are LOTS of them! Hold onto your computer chair… as this sale is GREAT:
If you have children in diapers… RUN, don’t walk to Jewel. Jumbo packs of Pampers are on sale for $10 each (not a great price at all.) But, Jumbo packs are included in the $15/$30. Buying 3 packs will give you $15 back at checkout, making them $5 each.
But it gets better (doesn’t it always?) Pampers are included in a second Catalina deal at Jewel which gives you an additional $5 back when you buy 3. So now, you’ll be getting $20 back! 3 packs for $10 is better, isn’t it?
Well, we’re not done yet. Let’s add some coupons into this deal. The 12/28 PG insert has $1 off Pampers. Many stores have a “blinkie” dispenser in the aisle near the Pampers with $1 coupons inside. Many Cheerios boxes have $1.50 coupons on the back (if you bought lots of Cheerios when it was 25 cents a box a couple months ago, you may have many of these coupons on hand!) Recent Pampers mailers have coupons up to $3 in value too.
With 3 $1 coupons, the deal works like this:
3 Jumbo Pampers @ $10 each = $30
Minus 3 $1 coupons = $27
Pay $27 and get $20 back in Catalinas.
You’ll buy 3 packs for $7, or about $2.33 each!
With 3 $1.50 coupons, it works this way:
3 Jumbo Pampers @ $10 each = $30
Minus 3 $1.50 coupons = $25.50
Pay $25.50 and get $20 back in Catalinas.
You’ll buy 3 packs for $5.50, or about $1.83 each!
$1.83 a pack for Pampers is a steal! I haven’t seen diapers this cheap in at least six months. And as many of you know, during the last great diaper sale, I really stocked up! I tried to buy enough diapers to last my son until he’s potty trained. (Sure, it may seem like a lot to buy at one time… but think of it this way… I would be buying those diapers over the course of the next year anyway. I just did it all at once… with BIG savings!)
Could it get any better than this? Believe it or not, yes…
Some people are reporting that Pampers is showing up on Jewel’s Avenu discounts for $2 or $3 off Jumbo packs. If you’re lucky enough to be one of them, it can work like this:
3 Jumbo Pampers @ $10 each = $30
Minus 3 $3 instant savings from Avenu = $21
Minus 3 $1.50 coupons = $16.50
Pay $16.50 and get $20 back in Catalinas.
The store will pay YOU $3.50 to take the diapers home!
Lastly, many of these packs have $1.50 coupons in them too. During past Pampers deals, I used to keep an Exacto knife in my car. I’d run my purchases to the car, slit the packages open, pull the coupons out, then go buy more!
Now, if you’ve been with the site for awhile, you know that there are often additional little intricacies with these kinds of deals. If you consider yourself an “advanced” couponer, read on..!
In these deals, getting to $30 in product is calculated a little differently depending on which side of the store you’re shopping on. For the Osco items, the sale price is the dollar amount you use to get to a total of $30. But on the Jewel side, it’s a little differently. You can use the regular (non-sale) price to count to $30. Why does this matter? Well, when you use the regular price, it often takes less items to reach that $30 mark.
Here’s an example. Bounty 8-roll packs are on sale for $10.00, but the regular price is $14.99. Buying 2 8-roll Bountys will cost you $20, but the regular price will be $29.98 — just 2 cents shy of that $30 mark. Adding any small item included in the deal, such as a box of Puffs or a single-serving bottle of Fuze beverage, will push you over the $30 mark. And you’ll save even more when you get $15 in return.
Now, of course, we want to add coupons with this too! The coupons come off once we’ve hit that $30 mark. Any Avenu savings you may have from Jewel can figure in too — and many people have $1 off Bounty on Avenu this week!
So here’s how this can work:
2 8-roll packs of Bounty – $20 sale price, $29.98 regular price
1 Fuze beverage – $1.25 sale price, $1.79 regular price
Total: $21.25 sale price, $31.77 regular price
At this point, we’re over the $30 mark and will receive our $15 in Catalinas.
But now, let’s add some coupons!
$0.25 Bounty – 12/28 PG, 12/28 Parade Magazine from the Tribune
$0.25 Fuze – 1/4 SS
Our out of pocket price is now down to $21.00. Avenu gives an additional $1 off the Bounty. We’ll pay $20 and get $15 back in Catalinas! That’s 16 rolls of paper towels, and one drink for $5! SUPER CHEAP! Puffs tissues make a great filler item too. They’re on sale for $1.25, and there was a .25 coupon in the 12/28 Parade.
Charmin toilet paper’s a good deal too. It’s $17.99 regular price, but $12.99 sale price. Buying a Charmin and a Bounty together would cost you $22.99 without coupons – $22.49 with. Avenu takes $1 off the Bounty, and we’ll pay $21.49 for both, getting $15 back in Catalinas. $6.49 for 8 rolls of Bounty and 24 rolls of Charmin is a steal! :)
Or, if you didn’t get enough cereal with the deal above, how about a cereal moneymaker? Fiber One Honey Clusters are on sale for $2 a box, but their regular price is $4.65. Buying 7 boxes costs $14, but it’s over $30 on the regular price. See how this works? Buying 7 will cost you $14, and you’ll receive $15 in Catalinas! Your cereal will be free… and they’ll pay you a buck to take it home.
And, as with all things, sweeten the deal even more with coupons…
$1 off 2 Fiber One cereals – 1/11 SS
$1 off 2 Fiber One cereals – (SmartSource – print 2)
With 3 coupons, you’ll pay $11 and get $15 back. Plus, you’ll have lots of cereal for quite some time!
Again, if you choose to work this ad on regular prices, you may not have much recourse if the Catalinas don’t print. For more on this, read Why wouldn’t a Catalina print?
Lastly, there have been a lot of people in my web Forum doing the deal… check out their discussions for even more scenarios!
Moving over to Walgreens… Equal 100 ct. sweetener packets are on sale for $2.49. Use the $2.50 coupon from 1/4 SS and pick these up for FREE!
AquaFresh toothpaste is on sale for $2.99. Grab the January EasySaver coupon for $2.00 off Aquafresh, and stack it with the 75-cent coupon from 1/4 SS, and you’ll be keeping your teeth nice and shiny for just .24 a tube!
And, if you feel a cold coming on, Halls cough drops are cheap after this coupon deal…! They’re on sale for 99 cents. Use the 50-cent coupons from 12/7 SS and 1/11 SS to pick these up for just 49 cents a bag.
Oust air sanitizer is on sale for $3.79, Buy One, Get One Free at Walgreens this week. There are some B1G1F coupons out that will either make them BOTH free, or very cheap:
Oust B1G1F up to $4.25 value – 1/4 SS
Oust B1G1F up to $3.49 value – 11/23 SS
(If you use the November coupon, it will only cover $3.49 of the $3.79 value, so you’ll end up paying 30 cents for your 2 cans – .15 each.)
Still at Walgreens, there’s a coupon in their weekly flier for a ream of computer paper for $2.99! If you have any Register Rewards burning a hole in your pocket, why not pick up some cheap computer paper… to print more coupons on :)
Over at CVS, a bunch of people in my web forum discovered a great deal on Febreze candles! Vanilla and Apple scented Febreze candles are scanning at either $1.99 or .79 cents. Use the $2 coupon from 12/14 PG and pick these up for FREE! Note that CVS does not allow coupon overage, so they will “adjust down” the value of your coupon to match the scanned price.
Still at CVS, here’s a cheese cracker moneymaker! CVS “Gold Emblem” brand of cheese snack crackers are on sale for $1.97. When you buy a box, you’ll get $1 back in Extra Care Bucks, making each box just .97.
Now, let’s add a coupon and make this a moneymaker! Sometimes CVS runs coupons in newspapers around the country, and right now they’ve got one in the online edition of the Baltimore Beacon News. But the coupon’s good nationwide..! Print that $3 off any CVS brand item coupon & use it on your crackers. Pay 94 cents for your 2 boxes of crackers and get $2 in ECBs! They’re paying you $1.06 to take the crackers home.
Or, if you don’t want crackers, use the same coupon to buy some CVS brand baby wipes (which would go well with the cheapie diapers from Jewel this week!) CVS wipes are on sale for $1.99. Buy 2 packs, use the $3 coupon, and pay just .49 a pack!
