If you’re new to my blog, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon terminology and abbreviations.
A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on some Chicagoland stores, the Kroger, Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu or Safeway store you may find similar sales to our Jewel-Osco and Dominick’s deals. Welcome, and enjoy!
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.
“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel-Osco… View weekly ad | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Jewel-Osco ecoupons
IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations have updated their cash registers to a new system. If you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed. Watch your registers.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE:Ecoupons you can currently use with the Jewel-Osco Rewards card are via SavingStar and Jewel-Osco’s new ecoupons. Note that the ecoupons you can load to card are often the same as the ones you can print at Coupons.com. If you print them, you get two prints, but if you load them, you only get ONE. Just an FYI.
LAST IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: Jewel-Osco has gone to a one-page paper ad in the newspaper some weeks in some market areas, but the full Sunday ad is available online at www.jewelosco.com. This ad is valid at ALL stores, even if you did not receive the full ad in your local paper.
Jewel-Osco information:
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? At times, Jewel sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons and Deal Match offers
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area:
View weekly ad | Load Meijer Mperks ecoupons
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.
Heading over to Kroger… View weekly ad | Load Kroger ecoupons | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Cellfire ecoupons | Load ShortCuts ecoupons | Load PGEsaver.com ecoupons
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Kroger | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad | Load “Schnupons” ecoupons
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. The current ad is good through Tuesday.
Off to Target…
View weekly ad | Print store coupons from Target.com …
Target Notes:
You get .05 off your total at Target for each reusable bag you bring and use. If you pay with the Target credit or debit card, you receive another 5% off.
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens (View weekly ad | On Fridays, preview next week’s ad)…
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE WALGREENS AD: Walgreens is no longer putting its entire ad in the paper newspaper version. There are online-only ad pages that you can look at via this link: View weekly ad
And finally, over at CVS (View weekly ad) | Load SavingStar ecoupons
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! You may want to scan your coupon more than once – it’s been printing different coupons on subsequent scans!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ExtraBucks for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print EBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog full Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is filled with many coupons each month. Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

ahead of the game today, Jill-thanks!! :) You may want to check to Sunday only Pepsi deal under Jewel-I THINK you meant 24-12 oz. cans, not 12-12 oz. cans (the header is right, but the detail is wrong).

the quaker cereal coupon is gone already, but I spotted a great deal on Jimmy Dean’s d-lights sandwiches….
my JFO had a 25% off plus JFU coupons on them (plus the $2/1 in the 1/6 R2) should make for a great deal.. so other folks can check their JFU..
I also got a personalized price of $1.99 (one time only) for the Jennie-o turkey bacon, so my deal is a little bit better than what you wrote up :0)

Thanks for getting this up before Monday. On the Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaner at Meijer did not finish putting up where you can get the coupon. On CVS the Ad says one deal per household for the Dial, Dry Idea, etc. so can not do multiple transactions unless you have another card or am I reading that wrong.
Calibabydolly says
eye shadows! I found all the Cover Girl make-ups to be included in the Buy 5 Save $5 and the single eyeshadows were priced at $2.39. That makes it $1.39 after the deal AND if you use the P&G coupon $3 off 2 Cover Girl items it works out to be a small money maker.
Depending how many coupons you have and your local Krogers price, you can combine it with other deals in the buy 5 sale. Remember you must buy in sets of 5 to do this deal. It says limit 5 offers per transaction. (meaning you can buy up to 25 items)
There is also a $1 off 1 Herbal Essence on the e-coupons to load to your Kroger card. In case you don’t have any paper coupon left to use for a deal!

For some reason I cannot find the Colgate coupon.
It is supposed to be in 1/6 SS2.
I looked through all three Smart Source inserts for 1/6 and still can’t find it.
Can someone tell me what is on the cover of SS2, so I can figure out which insert it is in?
jetta917 says
Its on the one with toaster strudel and go gurt on the cover.

Here are some updates from Jewel (thanks for the EARLY POST JILL!)
Azteca multigrain tortillas are regular price, it’s the corn ones that are $1.
I found a GREAT deal on Equaline soft soap refill. It is the big 56 ounce bottle. The Walgreens deal on the refill got me thinking about it and I saw Jewel has the Equaline refill on sale for $3.49. With the $2.50 printable for buying 5 Great Deals items (which I did between chicken, Pepsi and Minute Maid OJ) I paid .99 for that huge bottle of soap!
Also checked some other deals for the Jewel printables. Wild Harvest 8-pack apple instant oatmeal is $1.99 and free with that printable coupon if you don’t want the free carrots.
Culinary Circle frozen desserts are $3.99 so $1.49 after the $2.50 coupon.I thought a better deal was the Culinary Artisan breads which are $3.49 for a 16 ounce or 12 ounce loaf. Only .99 after the coupon! I also saw Culinary French Baguettes for .99 each. You could get 2 free if you did not want to spend anyting out of pocket. Thanks agian for the early deals!
claribelrn says
Jill, I think I’m missing something…I’m not understanding how those items that you listed are free with those printables. The qs say when you buy 5. Like the pasta $1 x 5= $5 -$1.50= $3.50… Does the $1.50 come off each of the 5 items? Thanks.

Did not see this in the deals above, and wanted to share in case anyone else needs it:
Crest Pro-Health Mouthwash, $2.99
Get 4,000 points wyb 3
Buy 3 and use 3x $1.50 Crest Rinse from 12/30 P&G
Final Price: 3/$.47 Mouthwash after coupons and points ($.16 each!)

The Johnsonville Chicken sausage is $2.49 with J4U coupon, plus there is a $1 off Manufacturer e-coupon, making it $1.49/package. I think it’s a good price for these. The MC only comes off one. Not sure if there is another coupon available to get more than one at this price.

Target has their huge boxes of diapers on sale for $25. There is a printable coupon on their website for $1.50 off 2 which makes them $.15 per diaper for size 4. Also, I got a coupon for $1 off a couple of weeks ago so I used that instead. I bought a box then got a coupon at the check out for $2/2. So I bought two more :)

Mashupmom referenced a $2.00/1 (regional!) in the 12/9 RP for the Duracell batteries at CVS. I used it yesterday with no issues!

Hi Jill ,
My jewel on Randall rd ,Algonquin refused to take $1 coupon on 0.99 beachnut baby food.
Is this right ?
I had some other items also just in case they take whole dollar off.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jill,
Is the Jewel giftcard deals in Jewel’s paper?

Bought (4) for $10 – $2 instant coupon – (2) $1/2 mfr coupons – (2) $1/2 Target coupons = $4 for 4 or $1 each!!! Grownup cereal — not the kid stuff.

I printed out the coupon for $1 off 2 Suave body wash, but it says for use only at Dollar General. Is there a different coupon or will CVS accept this coupon?
Lnjwand says
I did the Edge deal at Walgreens a little while ago. I purchased 6 Edge with 3 of the $2/2 coupons and one Skintimate with 1 $.55/1 coupon. The bottom of my receipt didn’t say anything about getting my 10,000 rewards points.
Did I do something wrong?
Does the information lag by a few days and will show up later?
Do I need to call and complain to someone because I didn’t get my points?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

I made 30 different Lipton Tea purchases and received $30 worth of $1 register reward coupons. However when I went back to Walgreens, I tried to make a $22 purchase and was informed I can use only 1 $1 register reward per item. Is this true? I wanted to pay for the entire purchase with the register rewards. I canceled the order and left the store.
What can or should I do now? I still have 29 $1 register rewards!!
Bernard2003 says
This might be a bit late in the game this week, but at target teh activia yogurt is normall $2.04 at my store, the 1/13SS inserts had a $1/1 coupon and the target website had a $1/2 printable. Buy two, and pay $0.50 per 4 pack!
Also, there is a $5 gift card when you buy 2 packages of John Frieda haircolor. The regular boxes are $11.99, but there are plenty of clearanced boxes marked $8.48 and they also trigger the gift card! I tried it myself. So, I ended up paying $3.48 per box of haircolor :0)

CVS did not want to take my coupon for $1.00 of 3-bar pack coupon because I am supposed to buy three? I thought based on your deal and the wording that it was $1.00 of ONE three bar pack not THREE three bar packs. Is this right?
Sorry if this is confusing
