Happy New Year, Super-Couponers! It’s my birthday today, and it’s always a welcome birthday present to get Sunday papers with LOTS of coupons inside each New Year’s weekend! That’s one of the best gifts a couponer can get! Hope you picked up a few extra copies yesterday to prepare for great matchups of freebies and cheapies for weeks to come.
Unfortunately I’ve been nursing a bad cold for the past few days… but I have to tell you, I’m singing the praises of those Kleenex Cool Touch tissues that were cheap with coupons last month. They are beyond fantastic on a sore nose… and even my little guys have been asking for the “cold, soft Kleenexes!” I was happy to get more coupons for them in yesterday’s inserts. (And if you haven’t tried them, Kleenex has a promo on their site right now that will send you a free Kleenex Cool Touch sample, PLUS a free box of Kleenex to a friend!)
Now that a new year’s here, it’s a great time to clear out your insert file too of any expired coupons. This “Current Inserts” link will help you weed out any of your 2011 inserts that have expired coupons in them. If a insert’s date and name isn’t on the list, everything inside it is expired, and you can safely remove it from your file.
This week’s blog giveaway will be a hit with anyone who’s a fan of Sam’s Club and Box Tops for Education! Enter to win a $25 Sam’s Club gift card from Sam’s and General Mills!

“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspaper to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

Here’s a deal on Fresh Express Salads! They’re on sale for $2.50 each this week at Jewel (not a good price, but we’ll make it better.) Dominick’s January newsletter has a $2 coupon for Fresh Express Hearts of Romaine or Italian Salads. Grab the newsletter in store, or print the coupon online. After coupon, enjoy your .50 salad!
UPDATE: A reader has let me know that the printed, in-store version of this coupon specifies on the back side that it is for family sized salads. That coupon should not be used on regular-sized salads.
Jewel is running a “Save Big” Catalina sale on P&G products. For buying singles or multiples of the following products, you’ll receive a Catalina back too. The ad notes that there is no limit on how many of the same things you can buy, except for the Tide, which is limited to two. A lot of these items aren’t fabulous deals ($3.49 for deodorant AFTER the deal, and over a dollar for a toothbrush AFTER the deal?! Ouch!) but there are some decent deals here too (Tide.)
And, if you are buying $25 worth of products (pre-coupon) in the same transaction, you’ll qualify for the Taste of Home mail-in offer for a FREE Cookbook, 5-cup Rice Cooker and 12-quart Tamale Steamer. (Save your receipt!)

Even the Era deal at Jewel works out to .08 per load, for comparison’s sake.)

Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, support for previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s is also offering Deal Match, where you can load price-matching offers from Jewel and Target to your Fresh Values Card. Load these offers at www.Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also load some of these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?
In the January 1-4 flyer – “New Year’s 4 Day Sale” on cover:

– Pantry Essentials Gallon Milk – $1.97 each, limit 2

– Honey Bunches of Oats cereal (14.5oz.) are $1.44 each, limit 3. Print $1 coupons here and here and take these home for .44 each!
These ecoupons are valid through 1/4/12.
Yoplait Go-Gurt (8ct.) is on sale for $2. Buy two and use this .75-off-2 printable (another printable here) and pay $3.25 for two, or $1.63 each.
Here’s a deal on Smart Ones. Selected Smart Ones products are on sale “Buy $20, Save $5 Instantly” through 1/11 at Dominick’s. Smart Ones Meals (3.95-11.5oz.) are on sale for $2 each. There’s a $3-off-10 coupon in the 8/7/11 SS, or print them here at this link.
Then, buy 10 meals ($20.) You’ll get $5 in instant savings (now $15) and another $3 off with coupon (now $12.) That’s $12 for 10 meals, or $1.20 each.
Dominick’s is running a “Buy 2, Save $3 Each Instantly” sale on large sizes of laundry detergents, paper towels, and dishwasher detergents. Buy two or more and get $3 off each. You can mix and match the items in the deal, but you must buy two “Large Selection” sized items.
Their 103oz. Downy is a little cheaper than Jewel’s this week at $9.99. Buy two and get $3 off each, knocking these to $6.99 each. Use the $1.50-off-2 from the 1/1 PG, and you’re at $12.48 for two, or $6.24 each.
—–
Cottonelle Ultra 30ct. Double Roll Bath Tissue is included in the deal too. It’s $13.99 before the $3 instant savings, $10.99 after. There’s a $1.50 coupon in the November All You that will ultimately drop everything to $9.49. That works out to about .32 per double roll, a very good price for TP!
—–
Hefty Trash Bags are a decent buy too this week. The 18-80ct. packages are on sale for $8.99 before the $3 instant savings, $5.99 after. Use the $1 Hefty coupon from the 1/1 RP or a printable and you’ll pay $4.99.
—–
The ad notes that the 100-oz. Tide is $12.99, but you’ll pay $9.99 each when you buy two. I thought this was a pretty decent deal with the $2 Tide coupons in the 1/1 PG and the 1/1 Chicago Tribune, but then I saw something else on Deal Match (log in at www.dominicks.com to add this to your card.) Check out the pricematching deals for Target this week… the 100-ounce Tide is $12.00 there.
So, let’s do the math. After pricematching the Target price of $12, you’re at $24 for two. You’ll save another $3 off each with the instant-savings deal, so now you’re at $18 for both. Use two $2 manufacturer coupons, and you’ll pay $14 for two, or $7 each! The 100-ounce Tide is good for 64 loads, so that works out to .11 per load. (The Tide is slightly cheaper at Jewel this week though, at .09 per load after their deal. But if you don’t like dealing with those enormous 150oz. jugs of detergent, these are a little smaller.
—–
An even better buy in the laundry department? All. The 150 giant bottle is $11.99 before the instant, $8.99 after. Use the $1 All coupon from 1/1 RP or a printable and you’ll pay $7.99 for the 96 load bottle – that’s .08 per load. (The 12/4/11 RP has a .75 coupon too.)
Dominick’s is running a Buy One Get One Free sale on cleaning products. As usual, Dominick’s has thoughtfully decided not to include any prices in their ad. Prices shown are from Safeway’s online delivery price guide, which is almost always consistent with the in-store prices at Dominick’s. Remember that at Dominick’s, you cannot use a manufacturer coupon on the free item.
Here are your products and matchups. As these are B1G1F, this will be your price for TWO.

Once you register with Meijer Mperks, you log into the Mperks website and click the electronic coupons you’d like to load to your account. Then, when you’re at the checkout, type your cellphone number into the keypad at the register, and your coupons come off automatically.

Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. I have had some readers from DeKalb write and ask if these deals will also apply to their store. In looking at both ads, SOME of the deals are the same, but Rockford at times has a Hilander-specific wraparound that isn’t a part of the DeKalb Schnucks ad. Remember too that the DeKalb store does not double coupons.
The current ad is good through TUESDAY, January 10th.

Ricola Cough Drops (19-24ct.) are on sale for $1. The ad says all varieties are included, so look for the Dual Action variety… then use the .75 coupon from 1/1 SS2. You’ll pay .25! There’s also a $1-off-2 in the same insert which will net you two bags for $1, or .50 each.
Nabisco 100 Calorie Packs or SnackWell’s (3.7-7.75oz.) are on sale for $2. If you’re on Facebook, head over to Nabisco’s wall and print two $1 coupons! After coupon, you’ll pay $1!

The 11/13 GM has a .75 coupon for the Granola Thins. With four coupons, pay $7 and get $5 back. That’s four boxes for $2, or .50 each! Please note that I haven’t had a chance to try this one today unfortunately… but it looks pretty good.

There are some other “so-so” Register Rewards deal in the Wags ad too this week, but nothing else is jumping out at me as being spectacular. And… it’s after 1:00 in the morning on my birthday, and I’m still not feeling great at all, and I’ve got to get onto the CVS deals.. If you see anything else great that I missed, please feel free to post. :)
And finally, over at CVS (View weekly ad) | Load SavingStar ecoupons
Skinny Cow Candies (6ct.) are Buy One Get One Free this week at CVS. Print this B1G1F coupon and get TWO free!
Mini Super-Couponing lesson: Why does this work? When you use a B1G1F coupon during a B1G1F sale, you will buy none and get two free. Here’s why… and remember, it’s important to think of your coupons AS cash. If you walk into the store and give them $1.99 in cash, how many packages of candy will that pay for? Two — because the store is selling you two for $1.99. Now, look at your B1G1F coupon. What is its value? Up to $1.99. This coupon pays the price of the first package of candy with its value ($1.99) and the second is free with the store’s sale. You WILL pay tax on the pre-coupon price, as always… but after coupon, both items will be free. If you like learning coupon tips like these, check out my Super-Couponing workshops or DVDs!

Revlon Cosmetics are involved in their own “Spend $10, Get $4 in ECBs” deal – no current coupons though.
L’Oreal Hair Color and Haircare products have their own “Spend $25, Get $10 in ECBs” deal running. Both the Excellence and Root Rescue hair colors and the EverPure, EverStrong, and EverSleek hair products are priced at $6 each. Buying 4 will put you at $24, annoyingly one dollar below the mark here. The ad says that it is good on ANY L’Oreal Hair, so perhaps one of the hairsprays or stylers would be cheaper than $6 and could get you over the $25 mark. (I hate it when sales are intentionally structured this way though!) Here are your matchups:
– $1 coupon for the EverPure/Strong/Sleek products – 1/1 RP, 12/4 RP, printable
– $5-off-2 and $2 off any L’Oreal haircolor – 1/1 RP, $2 off 1 printable
– $1 off any L’Oreal Studio Line – printable
– $1 off Root Rescue – printable

“No Coupon Needed” deals:
All CVS Vitamins, Minerals or Herbals are Buy One Get One Free, limit 6.
Xtra Laundry Detergent (28 loads) are $1.99 – that’s about .07 per load.
One dozen eggs are $1.69
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
CVS is also running a “Spend $30, Get $10 Gift Card” promo on their house-branded CVS products. Spend $30 or more on select CVS branded items and get $10 back in “CVS CashCard” (it’s a CVS gift card.) This deal is running through 1/14/12.
The following brands are included:
CVS
Gold Emblem
Absolutely Divine
Caliber
RTH Round The House
Salma Hayek Nuance
Cristophe Professional
BioLuxe
Essence of Beauty
Fuel
Skin Effects
PetCentral
EarthEssentials
Just the Basics
Lumene
Frutopia
CVS vitamins and batteries are NOT included. And, anything house-branded that is involved in an additional ECB deal is also NOT included (I had thought diapers might be a good buy with this sale, but they have their own “Buy 6, get 7th FREE” ECB deal already running.)
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Check your JFU before heading to Dominick’s.
Mine has the Hefty bags at $6.49 for the 45 count.
$6.49 less the $3 instant less the $1.00 coupon is 5 cents per bag.
Just a slightly better deal than buying the 80 count at 6 cents per bag.

Just wanted to mention that at Wags on the Nature Valley Granola Thins deal, you actually get $2 wyb 4 on the national catalina ($3 wyb 5 or more). So still a great deal, you get $5 back total with makes them .50 each. Did this deal last night, worked great, but my kids wished they carried the chocolate variety!

At Dominick’s at J4U there are 2 coupons for Tide 100oz. – $12.04/bottle and $2 off. This is in addition to $3 off when buy 2. I think it makes it a good deal, doesn’t it? Thanks

On the CVS deals for L’oreal skincare you don’t list the 1/1 RP $3.00 off coupon as an option but you do list it under cosmetics. Is there a reason we couldn’t use that there?

Hey Jill and all,
I was at Walgreens in Warrenville and saw a few types of Pantene on clearance for $1.29. 5 of them with 2 $3/2 Q’s was $.92 including tax! I got more in Aurora. Happy shopping and New Year to all!!!

FYI – The Dom’s in Volo, IL only had 24ct Double Roll Bath Tissue in stock (not 30ct). Customer Service indicated that they never get 30ct and didn’t know why their own ad said 30ct.
If I figured it correctly, it comes out to .40/double roll, which is still good, I think.

What page is this on in the CVS ad? I don’t see it. Thank you.

The coupon from Dominick’s for the salad at Jewel says that it is for the family size salad. Doesn’t that mean it won’t work on the ones that are $2.50 because aren’t those not the family size ones?

at Dominicks (Downers Grove, Ogden Ave) when I bought 3 Honey Bunches yesterday. It was a nice deal, since I bought 3 at $1.44 and used 2 $1 coupons = $2.32. Then got the $2 catalina. So, 3 boxes for $.32! Also, the catalina machine gave me a notice that “You have been specially selected to participate in post honey bunches of oats rewards” If I spend $10 on honey bunches at Dominicks before 6/30/12, I’ll receive another $2 catalina. Plus, it spit out another $1 coupon for honey bunches with raisins.
Maybe I spent a total of $10 on honey bunches and that’s why it generated the catalina? I buy these when there’s a good sale and send them to my son in college whenever I fill a box of things for him.
Lately, these surprise catalinas keeping coming up left and right! I got a free Smart Balance milk catalina at Jewel 3 weeks ago, now this.

When I try going to http://www.saveatjewel.com to load eCoupons from Avenu, I am getting a Certificate Error that the website can’t be trusted. When I override and say I trust the website, I get a blank screen.
Is this just me or is the Avenu not working?
I have used it previously a number of times with no problem.
Thanks for any help!

The deal for the $5 RR was buy $20 get $5 RR.
I purchased 4 boxes of Skinny Cow candy at $2.99 each, used 2 of the BOGO free coupons and then bought some Lean Cuisines. My total before the coupons was $21. I didn’t receive the $5 RR. Can somebody let me know if the coupons ruined the deal? There were at least 4 people in line behind me and didn’t want to hold them up if this was my error. Thoughts for next time? I’m chalking this up as a learning opportunity this time if I made the error. Your feedback is appreciated.
