Happy New Year, Super-Couponers! It’s my birthday today, and it’s always a welcome birthday present to get Sunday papers with LOTS of coupons inside each New Year’s weekend! That’s one of the best gifts a couponer can get! Hope you picked up a few extra copies yesterday to prepare for great matchups of freebies and cheapies for weeks to come.

Unfortunately I’ve been nursing a bad cold for the past few days… but I have to tell you, I’m singing the praises of those Kleenex Cool Touch tissues that were cheap with coupons last month. They are beyond fantastic on a sore nose… and even my little guys have been asking for the “cold, soft Kleenexes!” I was happy to get more coupons for them in yesterday’s inserts. (And if you haven’t tried them, Kleenex has a promo on their site right now that will send you a free Kleenex Cool Touch sample, PLUS a free box of Kleenex to a friend!)

Now that a new year’s here, it’s a great time to clear out your insert file too of any expired coupons. This “Current Inserts” link will help you weed out any of your 2011 inserts that have expired coupons in them. If a insert’s date and name isn’t on the list, everything inside it is expired, and you can safely remove it from your file.

Here’s a deal on Fresh Express Salads! They’re on sale for $2.50 each this week at Jewel (not a good price, but we’ll make it better.) Jewel is running a “Save Big” Catalina sale on P&G products. For buying singles or multiples of the following products, you’ll receive a Catalina back too. The ad notes that there is no limit on how many of the same things you can buy, except for the Tide, which is limited to two. A lot of these items aren’t fabulous deals ($3.49 for deodorant AFTER the deal, and over a dollar for a toothbrush AFTER the deal?! Ouch!) but there are some decent deals here too (Tide.)

Here’s a deal on Smart Ones. Selected Smart Ones products are on sale “Buy $20, Save $5 Instantly” through 1/11 at Dominick’s. Smart Ones Meals (3.95-11.5oz.) are on sale for $2 each. There’s a $3-off-10 coupon in the 8/7/11 SS, or print them here at this link.

Then, buy 10 meals ($20.) You’ll get $5 in instant savings (now $15) and another $3 off with coupon (now $12.) That’s $12 for 10 meals, or $1.20 each.

Dominick’s is running a “Buy 2, Save $3 Each Instantly” sale on large sizes of laundry detergents, paper towels, and dishwasher detergents. Buy two or more and get $3 off each. You can mix and match the items in the deal, but you must buy two “Large Selection” sized items.

Their 103oz. Downy is a little cheaper than Jewel’s this week at $9.99. Buy two and get $3 off each, knocking these to $6.99 each. Use the $1.50-off-2 from the 1/1 PG, and you’re at $12.48 for two, or $6.24 each.

Cottonelle Ultra 30ct. Double Roll Bath Tissue is included in the deal too. It’s $13.99 before the $3 instant savings, $10.99 after. There’s a $1.50 coupon in the November All You that will ultimately drop everything to $9.49. That works out to about .32 per double roll, a very good price for TP!

Hefty Trash Bags are a decent buy too this week. The 18-80ct. packages are on sale for $8.99 before the $3 instant savings, $5.99 after. Use the $1 Hefty coupon from the 1/1 RP or a printable and you’ll pay $4.99.

The ad notes that the 100-oz. Tide is $12.99, but you’ll pay $9.99 each when you buy two. I thought this was a pretty decent deal with the $2 Tide coupons in the 1/1 PG and the 1/1 Chicago Tribune, but then I saw something else on Deal Match (log in at www.dominicks.com to add this to your card.) Check out the pricematching deals for Target this week… the 100-ounce Tide is $12.00 there.

So, let’s do the math. After pricematching the Target price of $12, you’re at $24 for two. You’ll save another $3 off each with the instant-savings deal, so now you’re at $18 for both. Use two $2 manufacturer coupons, and you’ll pay $14 for two, or $7 each! The 100-ounce Tide is good for 64 loads, so that works out to .11 per load. (The Tide is slightly cheaper at Jewel this week though, at .09 per load after their deal. But if you don’t like dealing with those enormous 150oz. jugs of detergent, these are a little smaller.

An even better buy in the laundry department? All. The 150 giant bottle is $11.99 before the instant, $8.99 after. Use the $1 All coupon from 1/1 RP or a printable and you’ll pay $7.99 for the 96 load bottle – that’s .08 per load. (The 12/4/11 RP has a .75 coupon too.)

Dominick’s is running a Buy One Get One Free sale on cleaning products. As usual, Dominick’s has thoughtfully decided not to include any prices in their ad. Prices shown are from Safeway’s online delivery price guide, which is almost always consistent with the in-store prices at Dominick’s. Remember that at Dominick’s, you cannot use a manufacturer coupon on the free item.

The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. I have had some readers from DeKalb write and ask if these deals will also apply to their store. In looking at both ads, SOME of the deals are the same, but Rockford at times has a Hilander-specific wraparound that isn’t a part of the DeKalb Schnucks ad. 18-32-load Tide is on sale for $5.99. Buy it and use the $2 coupon from 1/1 PG or 1/1 Chicago Tribune. You’ll pay $3.99! For the 32-load, this works out to .12 per load. Tide is cheaper in the big bottles this week all over town, but if you like the little bottles, or wish to have less out-of-pocket outlay, then this is your deal.

Pedialyte is involved in a decent coupon/RR deal. It’s on sale 2-for-$10.50 (you must buy two.) Buy two and get $1.50 back in Register Rewards! Use this $1.75-off-2 printable. Pay $8.75 and get $1.50 back. That’s $7.25 for two, or about $3.63 per bottle. This is not always easy to get deals on, so this is a stock-up price for me.

EOS Lip Balm is on sale for $2.99. Buy it and get $2 back in RRs, making this .99.

Reader Amber B. sent over a deal that she spotted on Mashup Mom for some cheap Nature Valley Granola snacks! This week at Wags, Nature Valley Granola Bars or Thins are on sale for $2.50 each when you buy four. When you buy four, you’ll get $3 back in Register Rewards. Well, there’s a national Catalina deal running on the Nature Valley too — buy four and get another $2 Catalina. (Nice double dip – you’ll get $5 back!)

The 11/13 GM has a .75 coupon for the Granola Thins. With four coupons, pay $7 and get $5 back. That’s four boxes for $2, or .50 each! Please note that I haven’t had a chance to try this one today unfortunately… but it looks pretty good.

Rachel at Mashup Mom’s got some other nice matchups for this $10/$3 Register Rewards deal, including printable coupons for $1 off Multigrain Cheerios and .75 off Multigrain Cheerios. To do an all-Cheerios deal, buy four boxes of Multigrain Cheerios ($10.) Use two $1 printables and two .75 printables. Pay $6.50 and get $3 in RRs back — that’s $3.50 for 4 boxes, or about .88 per box! (Several readers, including Aratdpt, have written to say that Multigrain varieties are not included in this deal. I wish I felt better or I would have gone out to try this one too today.)

Buy two Nivea Lotions ($13.76.) Use the $5-off-2 coupon (now $8.76.) Pay $8.76 and get $5 back in ECBs, making these $3.76 for two, or $1.88 each!

Buy two Body Wash and one Lip Care ($12.26.) Use three $1 coupons (now $9.26.) Pay $9.26 and get $5 back. That’s $4.26 for two large lotions — $2.13 each, plus “free” Lip Care.

Man, there are SO many ECB deals this week! L’Oreal Cosmetics and Maybelline Eye or Lip Cosmetics are both involved in separate “Spend $15, Get $5 in ECBs” deals. Here are your matchups:

L’Oreal:
– $3 off any L’Oreal Face product – 1/1 RP
– $2 off any L’Oreal Face product – 11/13 RP
– $2 off any L’Oreal powder, concealer, primer or blush – 1/1 RP
– $1 off eye shadow and $1 off eyeliner in the 1/1 RP (2 coupons)

L’Oreal Hair Color and Haircare products have their own “Spend $25, Get $10 in ECBs” deal running. Both the Excellence and Root Rescue hair colors and the EverPure, EverStrong, and EverSleek hair products are priced at $6 each. Buying 4 will put you at $24, annoyingly one dollar below the mark here. The ad says that it is good on ANY L’Oreal Hair, so perhaps one of the hairsprays or stylers would be cheaper than $6 and could get you over the $25 mark. (I hate it when sales are intentionally structured this way though!) Here are your matchups:

CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!

And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…

Policies to know:

• Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
   
• With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
   
• With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
   
• Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
   

I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.

I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.
