Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel (View weekly ad)
Note that if you have been collecting pots and pans stickers for Jewel-Osco, this is the LAST week to redeem them (through January 26th.) Many readers in our Forum are trading stickers for coupons, so if you are only in need of a few to finish your stamp card (or have a few extra you’d like to trade for coupons you need) you may want to check that out!
Wonderful Pistachios are on sale for $2.99 (8oz. bag.) Use the $1 coupon from 11/21 SS or a printable and pay $1.99!
If you didn’t use your $1 off Ronzoni pasta coupon from the 10/3/10 SS insert, it’s on sale for $1.25 a box at this week. After coupon, pay .25!
Some areas received a $1-off-2 coupon in this insert. If this is what you got, you’re looking at .75 a box, with either that coupon or these $1-off-2 printables.
Butterball Turkey Bacon (12oz.) is on sale for $2.19. Use the .75 coupon from 10/31/10 SS and pay $1.44! There’s also a .55 coupon in the 1/16 SS that will net you more $1.64 turkey bacon — good prices.
Red Gold canned tomatoes (14-15oz.) are on sale for .89 a can. Use the $1-off-4 coupon from 10/24 SS, buy 4 and pay $2.56 for four, or .64 each!
In the Thursday Jewel ad, there’s a coupon for All laundry detergent and Clorox bleach. The coupon’s for “FREE Clorox Bleach when you buy All liquid laundry detergent.” All’s currently on sale for $3.99 a bottle. Use the $1 All coupon from 1/16 SS and pay $2.99 for a bottle of All AND a bottle of Clorox – about $1.50 each!
Jewel is running an instant-savings deal on Quaker, Aunt Jemima and Tropicana products. Buy 5 and save $3 instantly! There are unfortunately not a lot of coupons currently in play for these items, but if you want to dive into this deal, these are your best bets. (Prices shown are AFTER “Buy 5” instant-savings.)
Aunt Jemima syrup or pancake mix – $1.89
– $1 off 2 – printable ($1.39 each after coupon)
Tropicana Trop50 juice – $2.39
– $1 off 2 – 1/2 RP1 ($1.39 each after coupon)
Quaker Instant Oatmeal – $2.39
– $1 off – 1/2 RP2, February All You ($1.39 each after coupon)
– Double-dips with national Quaker Oatmeal Catalina: Buy 3, get $1 Catalina; buy 4, get $2 Catalina; buy 5 or more, get $3 Catalina.
(With five $1 coupons, buy 5 boxes. Pay $6.95 and get $3 back, for a total of $3.95 for 5, or .79 per box.)
If you’re really in need of a cereal deal, Malt O Meal 20oz. cereals are on sale for $2. Buy two and use the $2-off-2 coupon from 1/2 SS, which makes these $1 each. Malt O Meal has “knockoffs” of every major cereal brand out there, so in the absence of any other deals, dollar cereal isn’t terrible, especially for such large packages.
“No Coupon Needed” Deals
140ct. canisters of Baby Basics Baby Wipes
1lb. boxes of Jewel Margarine sticks are .89.
20oz. loaves of Jewel White or Sweet Wheat Bread are .89 each.
23-25oz. jars of Jewel Apple Sauce are $1.69.
Remember to use the $2-off-$10 Jewel Brand coupon in the new $55 coupon book in the store if you’re stocking up!
Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers are $1 a bag. In the absence of any other coupon deal, this isn’t a bad price.
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Still holding those nice $2.25 Electrasol/Finish coupons from the 1/2 SS2 insert? Electrasol/Finish dishwasher detergent continues to be on sale at Jewel for $2.99. With coupon, pay .74!
Jewel-Osco information:
Jewel-Osco has a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there (and they answer promptly!)
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list yet? Jewel has been making coupons available for many different products over the past few months, and they’re usually store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with too. I’d recommend getting on their list if you shop there.
Coupon books currently found at Jewel:
Savings for a Better You – $55 worth of coupons, including a “$2 off $10 Jewel-brand food purchase.” Great for meat and produce!
Morningstar $10 Worth of Savings – (Morningstar and Hidden Valley Ranch coupons)
Jewel meat deals:
- Jennie-O Hen or Tom turkeys are .99/lb.
- Jewel spiral sliced half hams are $1.79/lb.
- Jennie-O frozen turkey breasts are $1.99/lb.
- Jewel is running their “Fav 4” meat deal again. Buy any 4 packages of meat tagged with “Fav 4” stickers and pay $19.99 for all four. As with any meat deal, watch per-pound prices here — I like to stay around $1.99 or less per pound. And, if you have the new $55 coupon book from Jewel, there is a $2-off-$10 coupon for any Jewel brand products inside. If you’re buying Jewel-brand meats during this sale, use the coupon and pay $17.99…
Jewel produce deals:
- 5lb. bags of Texas Ruby Red grapefruit are $2.99 – that’s about .60/lb.
- 5lb. bags of Wild Harvest organic russet potatoes are $3.49 each – that’s about $1.43/lb.
- Romaine, green or red leaf lettuce are .99/lb.
- 3lb. bags of organic yellow onions are $2.99 – that’s about $1/lb.
- 2lb. bags of Cara Cara navel oranges are $2.99 each – that’s about $1/lb.
- Vine ripened tomatoes are $1.99/lb.
- Jewel is running their “Fav 4” produce deal again. Buy any 4 packages of produce tagged with “Fav 4” stickers and pay $10 for all four. Really watch per-pound prices here — not all of these are going to be good buys. And, if you have the new $55 coupon book from Jewel, there is a $2-off-$10 coupon for any Jewel brand products inside. If you’re buying Jewel-brand packaged produce during this sale, use the coupon and pay $8…
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less for fish or shrimp.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s (View weekly ad)…
Note to my Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s currently accepts expired coupons up to one year past the expiration date, so my coupon matchups for Dominick’s deals will include expired coupons. If an expired coupon matchup is provided, it will be noted with (exp) after the date. Also, in Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons are being rolled into the “Just For U” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also now load these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?

Prefer Rice Krispie Treats? Use the $1-off-2 from the Kellogg’s Ultimate Holiday Guide coupon book (available in stores in 2010) or the 8/15 RP (exp) for .99 Treats. And, if you go for the treats AND have the Kellogg’s “Fuel for School” in-store coupon books from Fall 2010, there’s a coupon inside for free store-brand bread when you buy two Rice Krispie Treats.
- Here’s a nice little deal on Fresh Step and Scoop Away Cat Litter. 20-25lb. boxes are $6.99 each, limit 3, with Super Coupon. Head over to Dominicks.com and load $3.50 ecoupons for BOTH the Fresh Step AND the Scoop Away. (Pay close attention to make sure you’re loading the $3.50 coupons, as the Super Coupons are ALSO loadable in the Coupon Center, so this can be a little confusing.) With both $3.50 ecoupons loaded, buy one Fresh Step and One Scoop Away. You’ll get $3.50 off each box, and you’ll pay $3.49 per box! That’s TWO for the “Super Coupon” price of ONE!
- 2-liter bottles of 7-Up and A&W are .77 each, limit 4, with Super Coupon. If you have any of the “Score More Savings” coupon books (in Jewel stores in 2010,) there’s a $1-off-3 coupon inside. Buy 3, and with coupon, pay $1.31 – that’s about .44 per bottle!

(The February 2010 issue of All You also has a $1.50 off Van de Kamp coupon in it if you don’t have the aforementioned Dominick’s books and want to do the deal.)
For this offer, the ad also states “Limit One Per Customer.”
UPDATE: Rachel (MashupMom) tried it over multiple transactions, and it appears not to be limited by the register. She also stated that a friend did it multiple times in the same transaction and received a $2 instant discount for each pair of fish/veggies. There you go.
12oz. packages of Open Nature sausages are $3.99. Use the $1 coupon from the Dominick’s $70 Playbook coupon book or the ecoupon loadable on Dominicks.com and pay $2.99! For those of you who like natural meats, this is a pretty good price.

Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area: (View weekly ad)…
Here’s a super deal on Tilex bathroom cleaner! It’s on sale for $2.50 a bottle. Buy $10 worth of cleaning products featured in the ad and receive $3 in instant savings. This one gets even better with coupons… Meijer Mealbox has printable store coupons for $1-off-2 Tilex. Following along? Buy 4, and after two Mealbox coupons and $3 instant savings, you’re down to $5 for all 4.
Now, let’s stack some manufacturer coupons too! Here’s a $1 printable manufacturer coupon for Tilex! (Print two times from this link.) With two manufacturer coupons, you’re now down to $3 for 4 bottles, or $1.33 each.
With access to multiple computers for printing, this one really shines… with 4 manufacturer coupons, you’ll pay $1 for FOUR bottles of Tilex, or .25 each!
Old Orchard Healthy Balance and 100% Juices are on sale for $1.67 a bottle. If you printed the B1G1F coupons for Old Orchard I had on the blog earlier this month (they have since hit their print limit,) pick TWO up for this price. The new Jewel $55 coupon book also has coupons for $1-off-2 Old Orchard. With this, buy two and pay $2.34, or $1.17 each.
In the absence of “super-cheap” cereal deals at the moment, I’m trying to blog the “not too bad” cereal deals too. This week, Meijer’s got a deal going on Post cereals. Are you a Meijer Mperks member yet? Mperks is a different set of electronic Meijer coupons. They’re attached to your cellphone number, but aside from one text message to activate your account, you do not need to use text messaging to continually use them. Once you register with Meijer Mperks, you log into the Mperks website and click the electronic coupons you’d like to load to your account. Then, when you’re at the checkout, type your cellphone number into the keypad at the register, and your coupons come off automatically.

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the oter Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Correct me if I’m wrong. But I think the new policy at CVS is that they are not taking any printable coupons unless they are from the CVS web site.

So give the $1/1 first then the IVC, pay tax and free Chex Mix.

The WAGS Wonderful pistacio’s are a better deal than Jewel! The bags at Jewel are 8 oz. the ones at WAGS are 16 oz. WAGS 4.49-in store coupon .50, Manufacture coupon $1. $2.99 per pound. Jewel’s price would be $3.98 per pound and you would use 2 coupons.

Kleenex is on sale at Walgreens for 89-cents. Not a great deal, I know – but we’re out. . . ’tis the season! There are still “50-cents off 3” coupons out there – so I figured that 72-cents/box wasn’t bad. I bought six boxes (the limit) and got a $1.50 Catalina – not sure what quantity triggered it – but 47-cents per box was an even better deal! Only the rectangular boxes, though – not the squares.

I never tried the almond milk before, but since it was on sale (99 cents after coupons), thought I would. The dark chocolate variety tastes a lot like the Yoo Hoo chocolate drink mixes that my daughter loves, but I rarely let her drink as the Yoo Hoos are total junk–not real milk. So, I am so glad that I got almond milk, as this is very healthy for her! Just wanted to encourage other people with kids to try it as well…

At my Target the jet dry rinse agent is
cut $2.00 to $2.59 a bottle ONLY if you
buy the 85 count powerball dishwasher
detergent too.
Also I was going to stack my $1.50 Target Finish
dishwasher detergent with a $2.25 Finish coupon
I still had. Alas, the Target coupon is only
for the Quantum finish detergent which is
a lot more expensive. I guess I better
go over to Jewel and use my other coupon.

Has anyone tried purchasing the Ragu and pasta using coupons for both? I had a 1.00/2 Ragu and a free pasta coupon. When I tried at Dominick’s today, the register said there were too many coupons and they wouldn’t let me use the free pasta coupon no matter how many times I tried to explain to them that the free pasta applied to the pasta and not the sauce. I am wondering, could the bar code be coded differently where it’s trying to take the free item off the sauce as well?

Stopped at the Super Target in Hillside, IL (290 & Mannheim) and Rimmel products there are not on sale. (I scanned in a few at the scanner to see if maybe they just weren’t labeled, but no luck, all still at regular shelf price). Good news is that many are under $5 so I still scored Mascara for 99 cents, using the 2 coupons.

Wags has a Spend $30, get $10 rr deal on Maalox and Gas X. Best bet? Buy 6 Maalox at $5.09 = $30.54. Use 6 $5 Q’s from 1/9SS and pay 54 cents plus tax. Get a $10 rr! You can also do it with Gas X….buy 7 @ $4.34 ea=$30.38, use 7 $4 Q’s from 12/12SS, and pay $2.38 plus tax, get a $10rr. I did both of these deals yesterday and they worked just fine! And you don’t have to buy the Gas X Prevention, the Q’s worked on the regular Gas X. I saw this deal on Mash Up Mom I think, so give her the credit!

I was only able to print one of the Target web coupons for the .50/2 Jello gelatin. If you use that with the Wags price on page 3 of their ad and use the $1.25/3 Jello coupon from the Deliciously Simple Holiday Recipes booklet that came out around the holidays, you can get all 3 boxes for free, with possibly a .25 overage.
I haven’t tried this yet, but will probably go tomorrow and will post if this works.
My kids like when I make a layered Jello dessert, and will probably buy some red ones for Valentine’s Day. There’s an awesome pic and recipe at https://foodlibrarian.blogspot.com/2009/02/valentines-5-layer-finger-jello.html
Enjoy! : )

Just got back from Dominicks using the seafood/veggie deal. If you are using the get a free steamfresh veggie coupon make sure your cashier credits you 1.99. My cashier gave me the lower price of .99 for the already discounted steamfresh veggie (the $2 off coupon for purchasing both veggie and fish is split so the price on your receipt looks like the veggie is now .99 and the fish is now 2.99.). My cashier looked back on the receipt and gave me credit for .99 instead of 1.99. I didn’t figure it out until I got home…

I went two Walgreens tonight. They have a new hand scanner that would not scan any of my B1G1free printed Stayfree coupons or the $1.00 off coupon clipped from the tribune inserts. The clerk said that earlier today they had trouble scanning even the walgreen coupon. Also, they said to me if the computer printed coupons don’t scan they won’t take them. However, the clipped coupons would not work. I left without any purchase. I went to another walgreens and same problem. They manually entered them however, they gave me a hard time about using a B1G1 free coupon with the $1.00 coupon for 2 stayfrees. I pulled out my Walgreen coupon policy and they said that was not referring to the manufacturer coupon only if Walgreens has a B1G1 free deal. At first they said I had to use it a dollar general because it says available at Dollar General. I explained it is a manufacture coupon but after much debate, I was able to buy 8 stayfrees and use 8 coupons. I have more coupons, but I dont know if I want the hassle again. Anyone else have this trouble?
rbblaine says
Tried to do the Crest Pro-Health Rinse mouthwash deal at Walgreen’s. The coupon in the Walgreen’s January Coupon book is also considered a Manufacturers coupon. Would not let me use the one from 12/26/10 PG and the one from the Wags January Coupon book. Wording on the Wags Coupon Book coupon says “manufacturers coupon”. Has anyone else had any success with this deal?
