If you’re new to my blog, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon terminology and abbreviations.
A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on some Chicagoland stores, the Kroger, Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu or Safeway store you may find similar sales to our Jewel-Osco and Dominick’s deals. Welcome, and enjoy!
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.
“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel-Osco… View weekly ad | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Jewel-Osco ecoupons
IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations have updated their cash registers to a new system. If you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed. Watch your registers.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE:Ecoupons you can currently use with the Jewel-Osco Rewards card are via SavingStar and Jewel-Osco’s new ecoupons. Note that the ecoupons you can load to card are often the same as the ones you can print at Coupons.com. If you print them, you get two prints, but if you load them, you only get ONE. Just an FYI.
LAST IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: Jewel-Osco has gone to a one-page paper ad in the newspaper some weeks in some market areas, but the full Sunday ad is available online at www.jewelosco.com. This ad is valid at ALL stores, even if you did not receive the full ad in your local paper.
Jewel-Osco information:
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? At times, Jewel sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons and Deal Match offers
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area:
View weekly ad | Load Meijer Mperks ecoupons
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.
Heading over to Kroger… View weekly ad | Load Kroger ecoupons | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Cellfire ecoupons | Load ShortCuts ecoupons | Load PGEsaver.com ecoupons
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Kroger | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad | Load “Schnupons” ecoupons
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. The current ad is good through Tuesday.
Off to Target…
View weekly ad | Print store coupons from Target.com …
Target Notes:
You get .05 off your total at Target for each reusable bag you bring and use. If you pay with the Target credit or debit card, you receive another 5% off.
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens (View weekly ad | On Fridays, preview next week’s ad)…
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE WALGREENS AD: Walgreens is no longer putting its entire ad in the paper newspaper version. There are online-only ad pages that you can look at via this link: View weekly ad
And finally, over at CVS (View weekly ad) | Load SavingStar ecoupons
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! You may want to scan your coupon more than once – it’s been printing different coupons on subsequent scans!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ExtraBucks for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print EBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog full Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is filled with many coupons each month. Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner is also on sale at Target at 2/$5. The bottles are 10.17 oz. This sale includes selected Aussie styling products. Use 2 $1.00/1 coupons from the 12/30/2012 P&G insert. Drops the price to $1.50 a bottle. Coupon expires 1/31/2013!

Meijer also has Pantene on sale at $3.50 per 12.6 oz. (same as Walgreens 2/$7). Same coupon deal as above…Use the $3-off-2 from the 1/27 PG or 12/30 PG (exp. 1/31!) and pay $4 for two, or $2 each. In case someone is closer to Meijer than they are to Walgreens.

Jill, thanks for the early post…
I think though the subject line needs to show January 27th in lieu of the 29th???
I was confused at first but then I realized you posted today.
Thanks for all you do!

I did this deal 2 weeks ago. I bought two single rolls hoping to get 2-$2 ECB within the 2-3 days. First, it took almost a week and I only received one ECB. I called customer service and they say that this deal is not on their system. She gladly gave me a 20% coupon which I still need to get from the MCM. So be aware. Buying multiples will not warrante multiple $2 ECB’s.

Walmart has Digiorno pizza for $4.50. A little better deal than Walgreen’s.

Hi- When I was at Dominick’s last night, I noticed that Kraft 8 oz. shredded cheese was B1G1F, and there was a $.50 coupon you could apply to your card on J4U. I think I got a pound of cheese for $2.69. The coupon is a one time use only coupon, which could mean you could only get $.50 off no matter how many you buy, or it could mean $.50 off for each item purchased during that transaction. All I really needed was two bags of cheese, and so I did not test it to see if the coupon would come off twice if I bought four packages in one transaction.
Dominick’s also has Johnsonville chicken sausage on sale for $2.50, and there is a $1 coupon that came out for it on 1/6. Hope this helps, Nancy

at target: John Frieda Hair foam hair color
buy 2 and get a $5 gift card
the clearanced shade of this hair color are also triggering the gift card. Clearance price at my target was $5.98
They had $2/1 peelies on them and there is a $2/1 target IP (I only used 1 IP to avoid any hassle)
final price – $0.48 per box before tax! They would be free if your target will let you use 2 of the $2/1 IPs.
I know this is not an advertised deal, but the cards are still there on the shelf indicating the gift card deal is still going on.

I did the dial 7.5 oz hand pump soap deal today. I found clearance soap for $1.26 each. They were not tagged as b2g1free so I had the cashier scan them first to make sure they would work. They did. After the $1.00/3 coupon, each soap was 56 cents. Thanks for the deal Jill.

At CVS, the Dove Men & Care 6 packs are part of the buy $15, get $5 – so you buy 3 of them at 6.50 each, use 3 $4 coupons from this week’s RP, pay 7.50, and get $5 in EB, paying a measly .13 per bar – great deal this week!
