Happy New Year! Did you see the FIVE coupon inserts in this past Sunday’s paper? What a great way to start off a great week of shopping!
Jewel’s fantastic Buy $30, get $15 sale is on again! Grab Sunday’s flier and look at all the possibilities… buying $30 of any of these items will give you $15 in Catalina coupons to spend on your next trip. You’ll get 3 coupons worth $5 each, and these are good on anything you want to buy. They’re just like cash!
So, take a look at the items in the ad and decide what you want to buy… use www.coupontom.com to do your coupon lookups and matchups, and head to the store! The $30 total is pre-coupon, so using coupons on these items is the best way to save yourself even more money.
Don’t forget to check your Avenu electronic coupons too! Many people have had items currently included in the $15/$30 sale show up on Avenu too (Bounty, Febreze, Gillette razors, Pampers diapers and wipes) so activate these discounts to save even more!
Now, anytime these sales come up, everybody wants to know what the best things to buy are… and there are LOTS of them! Hold onto your computer chair… as this sale is GREAT:
If you have children in diapers… RUN, don’t walk to Jewel. Jumbo packs of Pampers are on sale for $10 each (not a great price at all.) But, Jumbo packs are included in the $15/$30. Buying 3 packs will give you $15 back at checkout, making them $5 each.
But it gets better (doesn’t it always?) Pampers are included in a second Catalina deal at Jewel which gives you an additional $5 back when you buy 3. So now, you’ll be getting $20 back! 3 packs for $10 is better, isn’t it?
Well, we’re not done yet. Let’s add some coupons into this deal. The 12/28 PG insert has $1 off Pampers. Many stores have a “blinkie” dispenser in the aisle near the Pampers with $1 coupons inside. Many Cheerios boxes have $1.50 coupons on the back (if you bought lots of Cheerios when it was 25 cents a box a couple months ago, you may have many of these coupons on hand!) Recent Pampers mailers have coupons up to $3 in value too.
With 3 $1 coupons, the deal works like this:
3 Jumbo Pampers @ $10 each = $30
Minus 3 $1 coupons = $27
Pay $27 and get $20 back in Catalinas.
You’ll buy 3 packs for $7, or about $2.33 each!
With 3 $1.50 coupons, it works this way:
3 Jumbo Pampers @ $10 each = $30
Minus 3 $1.50 coupons = $25.50
Pay $25.50 and get $20 back in Catalinas.
You’ll buy 3 packs for $5.50, or about $1.83 each!
$1.83 a pack for Pampers is a steal! I haven’t seen diapers this cheap in at least six months. And as many of you know, during the last great diaper sale, I really stocked up! I tried to buy enough diapers to last my son until he’s potty trained. (Sure, it may seem like a lot to buy at one time… but think of it this way… I would be buying those diapers over the course of the next year anyway. I just did it all at once… with BIG savings!)
Could it get any better than this? Believe it or not, yes…
Some people are reporting that Pampers is showing up on Jewel’s Avenu discounts for $2 or $3 off Jumbo packs. If you’re lucky enough to be one of them, it can work like this:
3 Jumbo Pampers @ $10 each = $30
Minus 3 $3 instant savings from Avenu = $21
Minus 3 $1.50 coupons = $16.50
Pay $16.50 and get $20 back in Catalinas.
The store will pay YOU $3.50 to take the diapers home!
Lastly, many of these packs have $1.50 coupons in them too. During past Pampers deals, I used to keep an Exacto knife in my car. I’d run my purchases to the car, slit the packages open, pull the coupons out, then go buy more!
Now, if you’ve been with the site for awhile, you know that there are often additional little intricacies with these kinds of deals. If you consider yourself an “advanced” couponer, read on..!
In these deals, getting to $30 in product is calculated a little differently depending on which side of the store you’re shopping on. For the Osco items, the sale price is the dollar amount you use to get to a total of $30. But on the Jewel side, it’s a little differently. You can use the regular (non-sale) price to count to $30. Why does this matter? Well, when you use the regular price, it often takes less items to reach that $30 mark.
Here’s an example. Bounty 8-roll packs are on sale for $10.00, but the regular price is $14.99. Buying 2 8-roll Bountys will cost you $20, but the regular price will be $29.98 — just 2 cents shy of that $30 mark. Adding any small item included in the deal, such as a box of Puffs or a single-serving bottle of Fuze beverage, will push you over the $30 mark. And you’ll save even more when you get $15 in return.
Now, of course, we want to add coupons with this too! The coupons come off once we’ve hit that $30 mark. Any Avenu savings you may have from Jewel can figure in too — and many people have $1 off Bounty on Avenu this week!
So here’s how this can work:
2 8-roll packs of Bounty – $20 sale price, $29.98 regular price
1 Fuze beverage – $1.25 sale price, $1.79 regular price
Total: $21.25 sale price, $31.77 regular price
At this point, we’re over the $30 mark and will receive our $15 in Catalinas.
But now, let’s add some coupons!
$0.25 Bounty – 12/28 PG, 12/28 Parade Magazine from the Tribune
$0.25 Fuze – 1/4 SS
Our out of pocket price is now down to $21.00. Avenu gives an additional $1 off the Bounty. We’ll pay $20 and get $15 back in Catalinas! That’s 16 rolls of paper towels, and one drink for $5! SUPER CHEAP! Puffs tissues make a great filler item too. They’re on sale for $1.25, and there was a .25 coupon in the 12/28 Parade.
Charmin toilet paper’s a good deal too. It’s $17.99 regular price, but $12.99 sale price. Buying a Charmin and a Bounty together would cost you $22.99 without coupons – $22.49 with. Avenu takes $1 off the Bounty, and we’ll pay $21.49 for both, getting $15 back in Catalinas. $6.49 for 8 rolls of Bounty and 24 rolls of Charmin is a steal! :)
The sales on Bounty and Charmin run through Jan. 7th. The $15/$30 sale runs through 1/14, but some of the sale prices on these items end 1/7, and others on 1/10. So, I’d recommend shopping through Wednesday for the best deals!
Again, if you choose to work this ad on regular prices, you may not have much recourse if the Catalinas don’t print. For more on this, read Why wouldn’t a Catalina print?
Lastly, there have been a lot of people in my web Forum doing the deal… check out their discussions for even more scenarios!
Still at Jewel, get a jump on Super Bowl snacks! Totino’s Pizza Rolls are on sale for $1 a box. Print two $1 coupons and pick these up for FREE!
Over at Dominick’s, there’s a pretty good sale on Pop-Tarts. Sunday’s flyer had a “Super-Coupon” making Pop-Tarts just 99 cents a box. Stack that coupon with the .55 off Pop-Tarts coupon from 11/9 RP and pick these up for .44 each! Plus, the way Dominick’s Super-Coupons work is that they’re good on as many items as you want to buy — so if you have multiples of this .55 coupon, you will only need one Super-Coupon to use with them.
Over at Walgreens, how about some FREE Garnier Fructis shampoos and stylers? They’re on sale for $2.99 each. Stack the $2 coupon in the January EasySaver coupon booklet (found in the racks at the front of every Walgreens) with the $1 off Fructis coupons from:
10/5 RP
11/9 RP
1/4 RP
and go get some free haircare products. Each one of those inserts has two coupons, so if you save your inserts each week as all Super-Couponers should, you could conceivably go home with SIX free bottles this week!
Still at Walgreens, if you’re a fan of their EasySaver Rebates, bring the $2.50 coupon for Electrasol Finish dishwasher gel packs with you. It was in this weekend’s paper (1/4 SS). They’re on sale for $3.50 with a $1.50 rebate. Use the coupon, pay $1 for it, and get $1.50 back on the rebate!
Or, take that coupon to SuperTarget. Electrasol is $2.79 there. With the coupon, you’ll pay just .29! Cheap clean dishes!

The link for the Totino’s coupon takes me to a page that basically says “error”. Is it just me & my computer?

Was there a limit on those?? I know their coupon is from their Easy Saver catalog, but was there a limit? Do you know? According to the sales flyer is does not say. I haven’t shopped much at Walgreen’s, so I am new to their rules.
Speaking of Walgreen’s the 6:00 news is on and Walgreen’s just announced a 11% increase in sales this past December!!! Woo-hoo, your deals are working great!!!!!!!!!!

Since everyone will be at Jewel this week, there was also a coupon this week for $1 off an aquafresh toothbrush. They happen to be on sale for $1 this week as well. So, if you are lucky enough to find one, enjoy.

Jill, Motts apple juice, 64 oz, is $1.79 with the IVC from Sundays flyer. With the $1.00 Q from the 12/07SS it would be 79 cents. I thought this was a good deal, but didn’t see that you posted it. I realize you can’t possibly post all the deals, but I was wondering if juice gets cheaper than that and I should save those $1.00 Q’s? Don’t really need it right now, but I’ll stock it if it’s a great price. Thanks for your help.

I’m not sure how much the motts apple juice is at Kmart but they are doing double coupons and I know they do sell it. Doubling up to a dollar. If it ends up cheaper with the sale at walgreens i’ll be going there.

I did the Jewel deal on Sunday with BC fruit snacks. I bought 11 to get me to the $30 (they were ringing up about $2.95 A box). I dont remember the exact ones I bought ( I know I bought some fruit roll ups, gushers, fruit by the foot, spiderman and transformers) but I got an additional $8 off for buying it. So I got 11 boxes of fruit snacks for $10 or so including tax plus the catalinas, so they paind me $5 to take home some fruit snacks, (I also used coupons for all the snacks). I did the deal again yesterday and bought 6 BC snacks(in addition to some other things) and got $4 off, so I am thinking maybe its $4 off for buying 5?? On my receipt it said “Gen Mills save $4 (and $8 the other day).
Thought it was a score so I wanted to share.

At Jewel they have “Holiday” Glade Scented Oil Holders on clearance for $1.74. There are a lot of coupons out there for these, making them free, with overage. I had some blinkies for $2.00 off. There were a couple of them in the Holiday Clearance section, but there were a bunch more by the regular Glade products. The shelf wasn’t marked as such over there, but they still rang the same.

There is also a good deal at Kmart with double coupons. The 3 packs are on sale 2 for 5 dollars and then with the $1 coupon doubled it comes to .50. Also at walgreens there is Stayfree pads only .50 for a 28-48 pack. They are 6.49 then there is a 3 dollar off in the easy saver and a buy one get one free coupon in 1/4 RP there are two I cant remember but its in there.

I read on another site that this deal does not end on Thursday. Can anyone confirm this ? Since I get a paper now I no longer get the add in the mail on Tuesday. Kind of miss getting the adds earlier. I’ve already done several deals this week but if I don’t have to rush out tomorrow and I have a couple of extra days on the sale that would be great.

Just to let everyone know, but in the CVS flier from Sunday, there was mention of clearance items up to 75% to make room for new stock, well I stopped by one (Irving and Damen) and I found in the Xmas clearance glade plug in refills—-the kind with the free plug in for 95 cents!! These were normally $3.49….only cinnamon apple/vanilla breeze scent, but if you like those scents it’s a great deal. Also at another CVS they had a lot of Physicians Formula brand cosmetics on clearance for 75% off, and I know there are $1 coupons out there, you would have to check from what insert because I don’t remember….both great bargains!! Jill, I know you mention you live far from CVS but in Chicago there is one about every 2 blocks!

I got at Walgreens: Hershey’s is on sale for 2/$1 with in store ad, there is a coupon in the 1-4 S insert for 2/$1 (the coupon is for the whipps bars, but it worked) = free Hershey’s

The ad has some Green Giant Veggies listed and picturered in the 3/$10 section but I saw that some of the boxed veggies were on sale for 5/$10 and there was a shelf talker for the $15 promo on one of them but there isn’t a picture or any verbage in the ad. I asked the service desk to check their list and she scanned through it and couldn’t locate this set of items. Has anybody tried buying the boxes veggies and had it count toward the $30?
Thanks,
Mike

New to the site and glad to be here!
I don’t know if this was mentioned, but there are coupons available on the Progresso website that will give you $1.00 off two, or $2.00 off four Progresso soups that are featured in the $15 for $30 Jewel ad.

Last night, after buying 3 jumbo packs of pampers at $10 each, I received the 3 Catalinas for $5 off, plus the other Catalina for $5 off the next baby care purchase (of course, a total of $20 in Catalinas). This was a self-checkout endeavor.
Then again last night after dinner, I went to another Jewel, and purchased 3 more jumbo packs of pampers at $10 each. Again, I received the 3 Catalinas for $5 off, plus the other Catalina for $5 off my next baby care purchase. For this purchase, I used a teller, and I gave him the 4 Catalinas from my previous trip, thus taking $20 off of this purchase. Nice!
So today, on my way to work, I stopped at another Jewel, I bought another 3 jumbo packs …
Except this time, the teller said this to me about my Catalinas: “You do realize that these are not good toward Proctor & Gamble products, right?”
I answered truthfully, and said: “No ma’am, I didn’t notice that.”
So the teller says to me: “Well, I’ll go ahead and let ya do it this time, but just remember for the future.”
I said: “Thank you very much. Have a good day.”
And it’s true, I didn’t notice that the Catalinas state, and I quote:
Not valid on P&G products.
That statement appears on the 3 general Catalinas, but not the Catalina good toward the next baby care purchase.
So obviously, the trick here is to go to the self-checkout machine every time, since it’s also obvious that even though the lady told me the 3 Catalinas can’t be used for Proctor & Gamble products, she went ahead and scanned them and they worked fine.
So Jill, is there anything I am missing about this? Is there something in the wording that still allows us to use these for Proctor & Gamble products? Or are we best served making use of the self-checkout machines for deals like this?
Thanks in advance.

20 sqft Reynolds Foil is on sale at WAGS for .99 with the coupon in their flyer this week. There’s also a $1.00 coupon in 11/16 SS, making this FREE!. I stocked up on 3 yesterday. I bought some peroxide that was on sale 3/$1 to make sure there wasn’t any overage.

I had no problem using the previous trans. catalinas, but the cashier wouldn’t let me use my regular manufacturer coupons saying that the catalina is also a manu. coupon. Kind of a bummer, but I always have problems at the Crystal Lake Jewel with catalinas. If only Algonquin had the size I needed!
