Can you believe it’s the middle of summer already? We’ve been “stay-cationing” with the kids the last couple of weeks — this was my first almost-three-week spell without teaching a Super-Couponing class since I started last August! And believe it or not, there’s a lot to do in and around our area on a moderate budget.
Two weeks ago we spent the weekend in Milwaukee (lesser-known things to do there? Take your picture with the Bronze Fonz statue along the river, or dine at the super-secret spy-themed Safe House.)
Last week, we went to the Museum of Science and Industry, which is always both interesting and fantastically fun. (If you go, don’t forget to print a B1G1F admission coupon here!) If you like Harry Potter, the traveling exhibit is pricey, but impressive. Our daughter was thrilled to wear the famous Sorting Hat at the opening of the exhibition (and received lots of “boos” when the hat placed her in Slytherin House!) I was fascinated with the 1961 Ford Anglia, the Weasley’s car from the movie.
Then yesterday, we spent the day at Kiddieland in Melrose Park. While watching my kids on the carousel there, a woman next to me leaned over and said “I hope you used those $3 off coupons from Jewel to get in here!” I laughed — she’d been in one of my classes, and we proceeded to talk grocery savings for a bit. (And yes, we DID use the Jewel coupons for Kiddieland! Check the Spotlight if you need some.)
And, oh, Kiddieland’s beverage centers are a bargain-hunters best friend. Kiddieland has FREE soda fountains all over the park dispensing Pepsi products. In a world that can charge $2-$3 for a soft drink, that was a refreshing thing to see… no pun intended :)
At any rate, it’s been a nice few days off to spend with my family, and we didn’t have to travel too far to have lots of fun. I’m gearing up for the Algonquin class later this week (full) and the Glen Ellyn class this weekend (still has openings!)
Now… here are your deals of the week!
If you’re new to the site, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon lingo and abbreviations. Unless otherwise noted, grocery store deals run through Wednesday of this week, and the pharmacy deals run through Saturday. And, if you’re new to couponing in general, check out my Super-Couponing website for a list of FREE coupon classes and instructions on how to start using coupons effectively!
Starting at Jewel, there’s a pretty good Kellogg’s promo running! Buy Kellogg’s cereals (various) Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts (22oz.), Special K bars, Nutrigrain bars, Cinnabon bars — buy in quantities of 5, and the price is $1.50 a box! ($2.50 if not purchased in quantities of 5.)
Here are your coupon matchups…
$1.50 off 2 Frosted Mini Wheats
$1 off Special K Blueberry cereal
$0.75 off Special K bars
6/7 RP – $1 off Mini-Wheats or Rice Krispies
6/7 RP – $1 off Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, Cocoa Krispies, Corn Pops, or Apple Jacks
6/7 RP – $1 off Special K
6/7 RP – .55 off Pop-Tarts
7/12 RP – $1 off 2 Special K bars
With any of the $1 coupons here, these items become just .50 a box when purchased in quantities of 5!
Now, this deal gets even sweeter, because there is ALSO a “Buy 10, save $10″ Kellogg’s rebate running! I’m not a big rebater, but if they’re high-value, I take notice… and a $10 rebate that lines up with this sale has definitely got my attention :) All 10 boxes need to be purchased on the SAME receipt, so make sure you buy 10 at a time if you want to do the deal. (The rebate form also appeared in this Sunday’s Kmart ad if you are unable to print one. Despite the Kmart logo on it, you don’t have to purchase the products at Kmart.)
Want an example of what you can do? Do a deal like this, and ALL your food will be FREE, plus you’ll actually make money on the deal… using the coupons above, buy:
2 Special K Blueberry (print 2)
4 Frosted Mini Wheats (print 2)
1 Mini-Wheats OR Rice Krispie
1 Frosted Flake OR Froot Loop OR Cocoa Krispie, etc…
1 regular Special K
1 Special K bar (print 1)
After coupons, you will pay $6.25 for ALL of this… AND qualify for your $10 mail-in rebate! Who doesn’t love free food?
Do this deal as many times as you’d like, but remember that you can only receive ONE $10 rebate per household. The Kellogg’s deal runs through 7/26! A nice LONG time to shop!
Some varieties of Febreze Noticeables are on clearance at Jewel for $4.09. With the $4 coupon from 7/5 PG, they’re just .09! If you missed getting them at CVS last week, you can still pick them up on the cheap…
And, many people have written to ask me if the current Catalina deal on Charmin Basic and Bounty Basic is better than the paper products deal at Dominick’s this week. With the same coupons, it works out to -about- the same price (Two at $5.99 each net you a $3 Catalina – and with two $1 coupons, your end price works out to $6.98 for both, or $3.49 each. If you load up your Avenu discounts, there’s a $1 off Bounty there too, which will bring you to $5.98 for both!
But, these are the “basic” line of products — Dominick’s deal is on the “regular” variety. Up to you which kind you prefer! The Doms info is posted below.
Now, if you have done the Jewel Preferred Card update and have the valuable coupon book, the deal IS better at Jewel, because the book contains a $1 store coupon for Charmin! Stack that with a $1 manufacturer coupon, load up your Avenu for the Bounty $1 discount, and you will pay $4.98 for both, or $2.49 each! Now THAT is a very, very good deal :) Despite my massive Bounty/Charmin stockpile that remains strong since the sale last year, at $2.49 each, I’m tempted to use up the rest of my $1 coupons from the P&G book and get some more anyway :)
A continuing deal from last week at Dominick’s, for those of you have been waiting for a good toilet paper and paper towel deal will be happy this week! If you like Tide detergent or Glad trash bags, you’ll want to hit this one too. Read on…
Dominick’s has a “Clean Up and Save Big” promo going on all kinds of things (check ad for all.) When you buy 3 or more participating items, each item goes to $4.99 each.
Your best bets here are:
Charmin 12-roll toilet paper (12=24 double roll)
6/7 PG and 7/5 PG – .25 off
PG $120 Year of Savings has $1 coupon
Bounty 6-roll paper towels (6=8 25% bigger rolls)
6/7 PG and 7/5 PG – .25 off
PG $120 Year of Savings has $1 coupon
Tide 32-load
7/5 PG – $1 off
PG $120 Year of Savings has $1 coupon
Glad trash bags
$1 off 1
www.pgesaver.com also has the following coupons you can load to your Fresh Values card:
.25 off Charmin
.25 off Bounty
.35 off Tide
If you did a run of 1 Charmin, 1 Bounty and 1 Tide, you would be at $14.97. Minus 3 insert coupons, $13.47. Minus PGEsaver coupons, $12.62. That works out to about $4.20 each.
OR, if you have the higher-value coupons from the book, minus three $1 coupons, $11.97. Minus PGEsaver coupons, $11.12. That works out to about $3.70 each… which is cheaper than we’ve seen for these things in a very long time :)
Quilted Northern is also a pretty good deal too. The Charmin’s a little cheaper with the PGEsaver discount, but the Quilted Northen toilet paper is also a 12 roll (12=24 double roll) pack, and with a $1 coupon from 4/26 RP, 1/28 RP, or 9/21/08 RP, it’s $3.99 with this deal.
The 120-count Bounce fabric softener sheets are in this too – with a .25 coupon from 3/1 PG, 2/8 PG, or 12/28 PG (and others – these appear frequently in old inserts) stacked with the ..50 coupon from PGEsaver, they work out to $4.24 for the big box.
Not free… but very good prices for stocking up :)
Still at Doms, the cheap Hefty OneZip bag sale continues (and it continues for a ridiculously long time, actually – well into September!) Buy Hefty OneZip bags in quantities of 4, and the price drops to $1.25 a box instantly. Use four $1 coupons (5/17 RP or blinkies from the dispensers found at Jewel, Doms and other stores) and pay just .25 a box!
For my Hilander/Kroger shoppers, there are some good deals this week for you too…
Selected varieties of Sundown vitamins are B1G1F this week. Use the $5 off 2 coupon from the 7/12 RP, and look for vitamins under $5 (some are in the $3-5 range) — and you’ll pick up 2 bottles for FREE!
Kraft BBQ sauce is still $1, and with a .50 coupon from 6/14 SS doubled to a buck, it’s FREE…
Bounty paper towels are $1 a roll. With the $1 coupons from the P&G $120 Year of Savings book, they’re FREE… and with the .25 coupons from 7/5 PG doubled up, they’re .50 a roll…
Dannon Activia Yogurt is $2 a 4-pack. With the $1 coupon from 5/10 SS, you pay $1 for a 4-pack, or .25 each. Anytime yogurt is a quarter a cup or less, it’s a buy!
Over at Walgreens, the good deal on Listerine continues! Buy 3 Listerine products ($3 each) and receive a $3 Register Reward. If you printed the $2 Listerine coupons last week but didn’t get a chance to use them, the deal’s still running… with 3 coupons, pay $3 and get $3 back!
Or, do the deal this way… Reach Floss and Reach Toothbrushes are included in the same deal. Buy one of each, plus one bottle of Listerine. Use the $3 off 3 coupon from 3/15 SS. Pay $6 and get $3 back – you’ll pay $3 for a toothbrush, floss, AND Listerine…
School supply alert: Penway 2-pocket folders are .13 each with the coupon in the weekly Wags ad… and Penway mini-highlighters are .19 each with the in-ad coupon too. Corner Office 5-tab binder tabs or sheet protectors are .39 too.
Over at CVS, there are some good school supply sales too… ALL run through TODAY only (Tuesday) so jump on these if you want.
ALL of these items are totally free after ECB! Pay for them and get your entire purchase price back in Extra Care Bucks… buy some, or all:

We went to Milwaukee a few weeks back and my family wanted to go to the zoo. We discovered it was going to be $42 for our family of 4, for 1 day. I looked around for reciprical memberships and found that Cosley Zoo in Wheaton, IL has one. Their membership is $50, but I go 10% off because I took my kids green Oaklee’s Guide Pass Port in the same day. It cost us $45 we get to go to members only events and free to other events at the Cosley Zoo. We used it in Milwaukee, and Peoria’s new zoo, and it is good for a year so we plan on going back to Milwaukee zoo a couple of times before our membership is up. It was a great deal for our family, I hope it helps yours!!!

Not sure where I got them (RP 4/26) but I have a stack of B1G1 Free Reach toothbrushes with exp of 12/31, these should work well with the deal at walgreen’s….

It would be cheaper if you combined the $1 off Q from the perferred booklet and a $1 manu. Then it would be another $2 off your price you listed. In that sense, this is an ok deal right? Or should we hold onto both Q’s if they don’t expire soon?

your help is always appreciated. thanks!

I found an expired Dom’s store Q for $2 off Charmin from a promotion they sent me in the mail with a bunch of Q’s. If I loaded the Charmin PGesaver Q to my card, is this going to screw things up if I try to use the $2 Q?
dancingwolves says
do you just print the page the 2 for 1 general admission is shown on or is there a PDF associated with this? I guess I’m use to bar codes :)

Not sure if these meet the 8 oz. requirement but next week at CVS they have the Austin Cracker Sandwiches (Peanut Butter) on sale 10/$10, if they do that makes this deal creamy good!!! On the rebate form it says “ANY KEEBLER OR AUSTIN PRODUCT (8 OZ. OR LARGER)”
I will check today and then ask my local store to pre order 20 for me, better read the labels to see if they are decent nutritionally…….HTH…..this is a nice way to turn ECB into CASH.

Purex.com has a $1 off 1 Purex 3in1 laundry sheet. They are BOGO at CVS for $6.99 making them $2.50 each for a 20 count. Is this a good deal? I see starting on Th in Jewel they will be $4.99 minus $1 Q making them $3.99.

Even though I only had the $1 off Avenu for the bounty, my total was $6.97. I had a Wags RR to roll so I did not have to pay the extra $3 on my first trans and got a $3 in the end. So I thought it was worth it :) Thanks for answering Jill. I trust your input and am just about to unwrap and start using my last roll of Paper towel. Obviously I am not THAT good yet at stocking up LOL :)

What’s the end date on this cat? I’ve searched back 10 pages and can’t find Alert info. Yes, my cats didn’t print yesterday. Jewel wants ‘proof’.

I am such a newbie but learning so much so fast. Thank you, thank you, Jill and everyone. I started at your class at the Oak Lawn Public Library, Jill. I think it was in June? I got hooked on the double benefit to my family and to the local food pantry. I get so confused on the “when deals end dates” and have messed up a couple of times to my great disappointment. Could you please state the end date after each deal? It would be such a huge help to me and other non black belters.
