Hey, Super-Couponers, it’s time for another week of great deals! A big welcome to our new members from this week’s Algonquin class… and a special thanks to Opulence Salon and Spa of Carpentersville, who donated free haircut coupons (yes!) to everyone in that class!
It’s been a BUSY week for food pantry donations around here. If you missed the Frosted Flakes sale last week, take a minute and peek at a sampling of how many boxes of cereal that blog readers took to their local food pantries this week. Anytime a great deal comes around, it always pleases me immensely to see so much generosity among the couponers. Many, many breakfasts will feed hungry people in the weeks ahead.
And now… on to this week’s deals!
If you’re new to the site, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon lingo and abbreviations. Unless otherwise noted, grocery store deals run through Wednesday of this week, and the pharmacy deals run through Saturday. And, if you’re new to couponing in general, check out my Super-Couponing website for a list of FREE coupon classes and instructions on how to start using coupons effectively!
Starting at Jewel, did you cut that Buy One, Get One Free multipack Snapple coupon out of the Chicago Tribune a few weeks ago? It was actually in the newspaper part (vs. inserts) and at the time I mentioned to cilp & hold it until a good sale came along…
Well, that sale is here! Snapple 12-packs are on sale for $5 each. When you buy 2, $2 instant savings is deducted at the end total. But, when you use your B1G1F coupon, the cashier will typically take off the sale price of the Snapple ($5,) leaving you paying just $3 for 2 12-packs of Snapple, or $1.50 each! Make this even better by using this $1 off a 12-pack Snapple coupon on your second pack (you are buying 2, so you can use a coupon on each — one on the free one, and one on the one you’re actually paying for) and you will bring this down to $2 for 24 bottles of Snapple! WOW! Thanks to all4you24-7 in our Forum for posting this!
Still at Jewel, there are a few more days to get in on that good Kellogg’s promo that’s running! Buy Kellogg’s cereals (various) Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts (22oz.), Special K bars, Nutrigrain bars, Cinnabon bars — buy in quantities of 5, and the price is $1.50 a box! ($2.50 if not purchased in quantities of 5.)
Here are your coupon matchups…
$1.50 off 2 Frosted Mini Wheats
$1 off Special K Blueberry cereal
$0.75 off Special K bars
6/7 RP – .55 off Pop-Tarts
7/12 RP – $1 off 2 Special K bars
With any of the $1 coupons here, these items become just .50 a box when purchased in quantities of 5!
Now, this deal gets even sweeter, because there is ALSO a “Buy 10, save $10″ Kellogg’s rebate running! I’m not a big rebater, but if they’re high-value, I take notice… and a $10 rebate that lines up with this sale has definitely got my attention :) All 10 boxes need to be purchased on the SAME receipt, so make sure you buy 10 at a time if you want to do the deal.
Do this deal as many times as you’d like, but remember that you can only receive ONE $10 rebate per household. The Kellogg’s deal runs through 7/26! A nice LONG time to shop!
Still at Jewel, many of my readers have been following the OTHER Kellogg’s promo that’s running in the store. Buy $20 worth of Kellogg’s and/or Dr. Pepper and get a $10 Catalina coupon for your next shopping trip. This deal is NOT in the ad yet (should be in Thursday’s) so if you are VERY NEW at couponing and not comfortable doing an unadvertised Catalina deal, skip this and move on to the Dominick’s deals for this week. But if you are comfortable with a higher-level deal…
There is ONE product that overlaps in both the “Buy 5 save 5” and the “Buy $20 get $10” deals… it’s the Mb>8ct. Rice Krispie Treats. (And now, get ready to hold onto your hats for the best way to do this one…)
My black belt couponers know that these deals typically work differently at Jewel than at any other store.
VERY IMPORTANT: If you have never done a high-level Catalina deal at Jewel before, please read this short overview of the way the price structure works. In a nutshell, if you base your $20 on the non-Preferred prices, you can save even more money and spend less out of pocket. It is entirely up to you if you would like to work the deal in this way, but understand that IF you do, and the Catalina does not print, you can NOT go to the service counter and ask/demand that they reimburse you. You are working this sale in a different way than the ad specifies, and you’re on your own if you choose to do this.
You can mix and match any items in the list to get to $20. It’s important to remember that the non-preferred prices vary at EVERY store, and in some cases there are three prices (shelf, sale, and Preferred) on each item. If there is a fourth price (“Big Relief,” this is the price you use.)
If this makes no sense or is the least bit confusing to you… do NOT do the deal in this way. These high-level Catalina deals can be very confusing, especially when you’re new at this. If you are new, use the PREFERRED price only, and you’ll get the Catalina every time.
But if you’re a “black belt” couponer and want to maximize your savings… here are some of the best deals. Again, if you use these scenarios and do not get your Catalina, do NOT go to Customer Service and ask them to make it right for you. You WILL NOT have purchased what the ad states that you must.
Further compounding the usual Catalina rules, whenever there is an instant-savings deal running, the instant-savings price savings affects the Catalina generating. While you’d think you could use 10 boxes of Krispies here and get both deals, you can’t.
It would take even more screen space to explain why not. :) So here’s an easy fix. Many Dr. Pepper products are also included in the deal. If you throw in a $1.25 2 liter of Dr. Pepper, here’s where you’re at:
10 boxes of Rice Krispie Treats: $15.00
1 bottle of Dr. Pepper: $1.25
Pay $16.25 and get $10 back. That’s 80 Rice Krispie bars and a 2-liter of pop for $6.25! AND… if you haven’t done the Kellogg’s $10 rebate yet, mail in THIS receipt and get another $10 back, making it a moneymaker. WHEW!
If you’re also a black belt, you know that these deals typically have many more included items, and this one is no exception (list here.) Keebler cookies are also in the deal, and the price spread is large enough to make this fun…
Buy 4 Keebler Fudge Shoppe ($2.50 each, but regular price $4.79 at most stores) and 1 Dr. Pepper 2 liter ($1.25).
With coupon, pay $10.25… and get a $10 Catalina back. That’s a lot of cookies and pop for a quarter!
VERY IMPORTANT: If the regular/sale price of cookies at your store is $4.15-$4.19, you will need to buy FIVE boxes (and no Dr. Pepper) to make this deal work this way. Still a fabulous, super-cheap deal. Even without coupons, you’d pay $12.50 for 5 boxes of cookies… and get $10 back!
You can do this one so many ways…! Cheap cookies are yummy!
Special note to shoppers of the Algonquin Jewel: Dr. Pepper is on sale for .69/2 liter through Wednesday… making these deals even cheaper if you shop there!
The deal is on Nestle Pure Life water, and it goes like this…
Buy 5 cases of Nestle Pure Life, and the price drops to $2.99 a case; you will also get a $5 Cat back for buying over 4 cases.
Use 5 (or as many as you have) coupons for the Pure Life. Many stores have $1 coupons in the Blinkie dispenser – or, find some here:
4/5 RP – .50 or $1
8/3/08 RP – $1
July All You – .50
$1 off 1 (will need to register to print – use a free/secondary email)
$1.50 off 1
With 5 $1 coupons, you will pay $9.95 for 5 cases of water and get $5 back! That works out to $4.95 for 5 cases, or under a dollar a case.
Not bad, but what’s got my readers really excited is that there’s also a second deal going on the water. Mail in those 5 UPCs from your water and get coupons back for 2 more free cases of water! Now, you’re ultimately getting 7 cases of water (24 bottles a case!) for $4.95, which works out to $0.70 a case!
For my Hilander/Kroger shoppers, you’ve got a couple of cheapies/freebies this week too…
Yoplait Fiber One yogurt is $2.49 for the 4-count pack. Stack a $1 printable here or here with a $1 electronic coupon from Cellfire and you’ll pay just .49. But, Yoplait is also part of Hilander’s Buy 10, get $5 off – if you buy other items in the deal, you’ll get an extra .50 off the yogurt too, making it FREE!
Also free? Listerine Pocket Packs. They’re $1 this week, and the .50 coupons from 4/26 RP and/or 3/15 SS will double to $1!
Over at Walgreens, I’m sure everyone noticed the FREE Pilot pens in the ad, right? Buy one 2-pack of Pilot G2 Gel pens at $1 and get $1 back in Register Rewards, making them FREE! One of my forum readers, tcbtbob, noted that the purple pens were on clearance at their store for .75 but still generated the $1 RR. Something to watch for…
And, also at Walgreens, Scotch transparent tape is a steal! Buy 3 rolls at .39 each, and use the $1 off 3 coupon from 7/12 RP – that works out to less than .06 per roll!
Other cheapies? 2-pocket folders are .09, Penway highlighters are also .09, and Penway rules are .19 — all without coupons!
Lastly, at CVS, they have a TON of school supplies free after ECB, but only through today (Tuesday) — if you go, look for:
Caliber filler paper, 150 sheet
Caliber 24-ct pencils
CVS 1″ binders
Paper-Mate pens
… all free after ECB!
FREE stuff:
FREE Yoplait Whips yogurt coupon
FREE single M&M/Mars chocolate (every Friday through September, 2009.)
FREE coupons that are still current:
4/26 SS – FREE box Purina Kitten Chow (expires 7/26/09)
6/14 SS – FREE can of Mighty Dog dog food (expires 8/3/09)
August All You, p. 95 – FREE Jack Links Buffalo Chicken Nuggets (expires 9/30/09)

On the front page of their ad they advertised $.09 poster board (white only). My husband went in the other night to get some and the manager told him it was a misprint, and should’ve been $.19, although he checked and there were no signs posted that said so.
Tonight I was in for something else and went to see if the misprint signs were up yet, and instead of misprint signs, there were $.09 AS ADVERTISED signs up, limit 12. I picked up 12 white posterboard for $1.08 + tax. Anyone else run into this?

My DH loves using Mitchum. With Wags Q it’s $1.99 and I had a $0.75 manuf Q making it $1.24, but it also generated a $2 off 2 Mitchum deodarant. So, I am going back to use the Wags and Manuf Q making 2 deodarants $0.99 each! For a newbie, a pretty good deal, I think :)

I couldn’t find the Nestle Pure Life water coupon in the 6/21 RP and I don’t think I removed it already. Is it there?
tctbtob says
Not there for me either and I checked and rechecked all 4 that I have. Coupon Tom didn’t list it either.

4/5 U only has a $.40 off 1 Skippy for me :( Too bad I only have 1.
.99 ea is still not bad tho with the .75 off 2 Q

Anyone recall what date the Trib had the Snapple Q?

If you are buying lots of Kelloggs or Keebler look for the Star Trek points on the packages. The cookies have them to. Even if you don’t like the show or movie you can send them in for free stuff. We got enough points in the last week and now for 2 free 1GB flash drives for the computer. Free! For just looking for marked packages of things we wanted anyway. A heads up!

I know that a few people posted that they had purchased these cereals (Kensbaby was one I think) as part of the save $5 at Jewel. Can you tell me what sizes/varieties you got? When I went, both of these cereals weren’t tagged. I tried them anyways because of what I read here. They didn’t work.
I’d like to go back for a second round and all the coupons I have are for these cereals. I have a second address to use for the rebate and I’d like to give the cereal to the pantry, but couldn’t seem to make it work last night! HELP! Thanks.

I just came home from Jewel and bought the 10 Rice Krispies (made sure they were the correct ones) for $15 and the 1 2Ltr of Dr. Pepper for $1.25 but no catalina….any suggestions? I just kept it and didn’t say anything. Also, where do I get the $10 rebate or whatever that was you also mentioned? Maybe I can make it up there :) I initially wasn’t planning on doing the rebate but I guess I will try now.

Tried with 2 fudge cookies and 3 of the new oatmeal with chocolate chips (which are WONDERFUL!!!) Now I can eat and pretend the cookies are a health food. Those fudge “cookies” are nothing more than economy-sized twix bars. And yes, I did get the $10 cat on the above. The money I’m saving is all going into future health care.

Meijer has Kraft Salad dressing on sale 2/$3. Buy four and get $4 off your next shopping trip. I used 3 – $1 off coupons (all I had), so got paid $1 to take the four bottles home.

CVS is also offering picture dvd’s free after ecb. Pay $9.99, get a $10ECB back. Although the ad says limit one, the Palatine store has an easle ad stating “limit 5”. I know this has been posted by Illinigirl1974, and she did a great job on this heads up! I did the deal yesterday and “Phil”, the manager she spoke of, was the nicest guy, as were the 2 cashier girls working with him. Just bring in your cd of pics, load them on the kiosk in whatever order you like, (they even have stools to sit on!!) and you can edit them as well, then select the song off their list that you’d like to accompany the photos. The result is an awesome montage to music featuring your pictures. I did my niece’s wedding yesterday and will do the rest later. It looks so professional! You can prepay in case you don’t want to do the cds just yet. Phil will help you every step of the way and it is worth the trip!

So I went to Jewel last night to get 4 Keebler cookies and 1 2liter Dr.Pepper…..AND on one of the packages of cookies was a coupon for a free 2 liter pop any brand up to a $1.99….that means that with my previous $10 catalina, my purchase was free, except for tax of course!!! I plan to do this as many times as I can….cookies don’t last long around here!!!

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the price of the Tylenol at Walgreens. It’s normally $4.99 and after $3.00 RR it’s only $1.99 for a 40 or 50 count. This is good, right??
Theresa1097 says
The past week or more, there has been NO Dominicks adds in my Wed OR Sunday papers?? WHY NOT??
christyd says
I didn’t see the ads in my papers on Sunday or Wednesday either. But, I have been getting the Wednesday ads in the coupon mailer that comes in the mail every Wednesday. So, if you get that you may want to check there. I don’t know why it wasn’t in this past Sunday’s paper. I hope they aren’t going electronic totally, as I like the paper copy.
brianna928 says
How long is the catalina running on the Nestle water at Domincks?? The 2 stores near me ran out of water so I got a raincheck, but the raincheck says nothing about receiving a $5cat.

With the help of Jill and all of you I’ve gotten pretty good at figuring out how these deals work and have been able to save tons of money, have extra snacks that I wouldn’t normally stock and also donate to the pantry, BUT… today I just realized that I missed out on a money-maker and I’m kicking myself (well, not really ’cause I’m so thankful for all the deals I’ve gotten).
By mid afternoon yesterday at the Algonquin Jewel, there were no 2L Dr. Pepper’s to be found. Seemed strange to me that I couldn’t find even a single bottle. I had done the deal earlier and thought I’d get some more almost free cookies and needed it as the filler.
Today I figured out that someone must have bought the Dr. P as a money maker. By buying 11 Dr. Pepper’s @ $1.88 (shelf price) you would reach the $20, but at the Algonquin Jewel those 11 bottles would only cost you $7.59. Then you would get your $10 Cat back, making it a $2.00+ money maker!
So, like I said my lightbulb went on a little too late! Someone out there is enjoying a lot of FREE Dr. Pepper and whatever else they bought with their extra money from their Cats.

Ok – I realize you said the Keebler deal was only for the “black-belt” couponers, but couldn’t help myself. I was wondering if you can do the Rice Krispie treat deal and the Keebler deal in the same transaction? I purchased 10 Rice Krispie Treats + one 2 liter of Dr. Pepper and in the same transaction 5 boxes of Keebler fudge shoppe cookies and only received 1 $10 catalina. Can you do these both in the same transaction?
Thanks as always!

Ok, just returned from Jewel. Bought 5 12 pks of Dr. P. NO $10 cat. printed out and the light was green. I inquired about it, and the mgr. said it was because I didn’t spend $20. preferred price. I had said that quite often it is actually on the reg. price, and the worker standing next to him agreed, but said sometimes it is on the preferred price. They apologized. I AM curious tho if ANYONE else buys 5 12 packs and GETS the $10. catalina. ??
HLaw97 says
Jill- thanks so much for this info. I just got back from Jewel – purchaed 5 Keebler cookies items (got the $10 CAT) and 5 Rice Krispies treats on the same receipt for the $10 rebate. Was able to print and use 1 of the $1 off 2 Keebler cookies. With the coupon and the rebate, I am technically OOP about $9.25 yet I still have the $10 CAT to use. I am sure that someone is going to write-in about how I could have done better, but I was able to get the treats that my family loves. I also view it as the store paying me .75 to shop and I now have a very happy 5 year old loving the snack stash!!!!
designgirl says
Quick question – I tried the $10 catalina deal but did not receive a catalina. I bought 5 packages of cookies, $21.95 pre-preferred price, no catalina. I did not have my Jewel card so the cashier had to punch in the numbers – does this make a difference??
kielczynski says
I ran into a similar problem…I needed to have my final total be over $20 (after the prefered saving price, sale price and coupons) to get the $10 catalina. So, I had to add 4- 2 liters of Dr. Pepper to my order to be slightly over $20. Then, my $10 catalina printed out. I am sure that is it the same with the Keebler cookies. Jewel must be taking the lowest price for the items and then giving you a total…not giving you the before prefered card price.
christyd says
I went to Jewel yesterday and spent $10.50 on items on the back page of the ad and the $3 did not come off. I bought the 8 pack of Sparkle paper towels- SP $5.50, 3 Glad Sandwhich bags- SP $1, and 2 Playtex Gloves- SP $1. Is anyone else having a problem with this? I’m going to bring in my receipt today and talk to them.

I went to Yorkville’s Jewel yesterday and the cat deal worked on fudge shoppe cookies, cheez its and townhouse crackers using the SHELF PRICE.
the cat deal DID NOT work using the shelf price for Dr Pepper (4 12pks and 1 bottle), so I had to buy (8)-12 pks to get the $10 cat…… but used the cat towards (4) 7/ups, so still a good deal for soda.
I talked with the cust. service rep about the Dr. Pepper and she stated that the CATS using the SHELF PRICE is a discrepancy in the Jewel system, they are working to get out the bugs, so it is a hit and miss on whether it will work. But she was nice about letting me return the DR PEPPER, so I could go back through to get my cat
Also worked the Buy $10 save $3 and everything worked like a charm, spent $81 and saved $134.96
my husband loves all the brand named foods for less than we were spending, Thanks!
