It’s been a busy week in the world of couponing and shopping. If you missed this week’s headlines, JC Penney announced they’re replacing cashiers with self-checkers; more news came out about the Phoenix counterfeit coupon ring; Target announced that Chicagoland-area stores will be getting Beauty Concierges; and with credit card companies now allowed to charge shoppers a fee for paying with credit, Kroger is mulling over posting a cash price AND a credit price tag for everything in the store. What a week!

If you’re new to my blog, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon terminology and abbreviations.
A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on some Chicagoland stores, the Kroger, Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu or Safeway store you may find similar sales to our Jewel-Osco and Dominick’s deals. Welcome, and enjoy!
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.
“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel-Osco… View weekly ad | Load SavingStar ecoupons
IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations have updated their cash registers to a new system. If you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed. Watch your registers.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: Jewel-Osco has discontinued its Avenu ecoupons as of 6/18/12. The ecoupons you can currently use with Jewel-Osco now are via SavingStar and Jewel-Osco’s new ecoupons. Note that the ecoupons you can load to card are often the same as the ones you can print at Coupons.com. If you print them, you get two prints, but if you load them, you only get ONE. Just an FYI.
Jewel-Osco information:
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? At times, Jewel sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons and Deal Match offers
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Additional info:
If prints are still available, print this $2 off a $10 Lucerne Purchase printable, print it and use it with some more Lucerne (Safeway house brand) items this week.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area:
View weekly ad | Load Meijer Mperks ecoupons
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.
Heading over to Kroger… View weekly ad | Load Kroger ecoupons | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Cellfire ecoupons | Load ShortCuts ecoupons | Load PGEsaver.com ecoupons
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Kroger | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad | Load “Schnupons” ecoupons
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. The current ad is good through Tuesday, July 24th.
Off to Target…
View weekly ad | Print store coupons from Target.com …
Target Notes:
You get .05 off your total at Target for each reusable bag you bring and use. If you pay with the Target credit or debit card, you receive another 5% off.
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens (View weekly ad | On Fridays, preview next week’s ad)…
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE WALGREENS AD: Walgreens is no longer putting its entire ad in the paper newspaper version. There are online-only ad pages that you can look at via this link: View weekly ad
And finally, over at CVS (View weekly ad) | Load SavingStar ecoupons
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! You may want to scan your coupon more than once – it’s been printing different coupons on subsequent scans!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is filled with many coupons each month. Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

The Jewel items are somehow re-listed under Target.

The Stayfree coupons actually unkindly say limit one per PERSON, limit four of any kind per transaction.
And Schnucks/Logli/Hilander apparently just started triple coupons! https://www.northernillinoiscouponing.com/2012/07/22/triple-coupons-now-through-july-31-at-schucksloglihilander/

and my Dominicks doesn’t carry Diet Mountain Dew in 24 pack size (INSANE, I know!) can I instead buy them at Jewel, and use my manufacturer coupon as well as the DOMINICK’S STORE coupon at Jewel as well–to get it for the same price???

Hi- I was wondering if Quaker Whole Hearts cereal, which is also on sale this week, is included in the milk deal at Jewel. Thanks, Nancy
Calibabydolly says
Where does it say you get the free milk coupon up to $4.50? I looked in Thurs and todays Jewel ads and it does not show that now. I know it was going on last week but now I actually NEED milk.
I could not print the Quaker common kindness coupons. I must have already printed them but I cannot find them! Either that or it has hit the limit?
I am only doing the deal if the milk is still free….and since I am going there for my $1.25 Breyers deal! The milk is just a bumper crop!
theresa1740 says
Walmart milk has been 1.78 for a while and Aldi has 1.68 milk if you are shopping just for milk. Aldi seems to price for stores around them so some stores have higher milk prices.

Two random deals to add to the mix:
1) At Meijer, the 6 oz raspberries are $1 and part of the buy 10 get the 11th item free sale! I was at the Bloomingdale Meijer and the raspberries looked fresh and very tempting :-)
2) Pantene is 3/$10 at Target. Stack the $3/2 with the $3/2 Target Mobile Coupon that came out yesterday and pay only $0.66 for two bottles!
jilldianne says
Driscoll’s raspberries are excellent! Just bought some and couldn’t stop eating them.

Jill I think you meant to say it costs $6 for 4 or $1.50/ea instead of .67/ea

Hello,
Wondering if anyone has a $5 off 20 coupon they are willing to share? It was mentioned in Jill’s blog and was found on a tear pad at jewel.
chicabaja says
That is where you sign up. You should get a confirmation text sent to your phone. When you touch the link on your smart phone that is in the text, it should open up the web page. The cashier scans the bar code off of the phone and the register applies any applicable coupons to your purchase. Just a few tips for you:
1) Each coupon can only be used one time.
2) You do not have to print them despite what one cashier avidly told me. Some of the cashiers are not very familiar with the mobile coupons or are skeptical about scanning your phone’s screen.
3) Sometimes the coupon won’t be subtracted from your purchase even if you did buy the correct item. I’ve had it happen to me twice for more general coupons where lots of items could be included. It was for 50 cents off a up&up cotton item and I bought the up&up cotton makeup remover pads. The second one was for $3 off Massimo clothing and I had bought a shirt. If your cashier won’t manually enter the coupon value, ask for a manager or go to customer service. Both times, I’ve showed them the mobile coupon on my phone and item and they have given me the value of the coupon.
4) If you get bad cell reception in your Target, it is better to load the webpage near the front of the store before you get in line. I always have the coupons pulled up on my web browser before I get in line. You don’t want to miss out on your savings or hold up the line!

Target skinny and boot cut (fit 6 which is lower waist and straighter leg) is on sale for $18. On Target’s website, there is a coupon for $5 off women’s denim bottom. Wasn’t sure if it would work, but I tried it at the Target in Batavia and it worked! So you can get a pair of jeans for just $13!
