Current home-delivery subscription deals on the Chicago Tribune: Code OCNP: .38/week Sunday Delivery. Code X277 or X542: .50/week Sunday Delivery or $1/week W, TH, F, Sun delivery. Call 800-311-8500 or visit www.chicagotribune.com.
“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, you do need to be getting the paper with the “best,” highest-value coupons.)

Each week I’ll blog the best deals on school supplies too. Note that as we get closer to school starting, we’re likely to see even cheaper deals on some of these — in past years, many stores have had 1-cent and 5-cent sales. And, keep in mind that the WORST thing to do is buy your entire child’s list at one store. Going in for 1-cent pencils and paying full price for everything else makes no sense. Keep the list with you and as you’re around town each week, buy only what is cheap. By the time school starts, you’ll have the list nearly completed… on the cheap! More tips here.

The Marcal Small Steps Paper Towels 8-roll count are also on sale for $5. If you prefer, use the same $1 coupon from 6/19 RP and pay $4 – that’s .50 per roll, which is a fair price per roll if you need these.

Jewel-Osco information:
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? Jewel regularly sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Jewel meat deals:
- There are no meats in the current Jewel ads priced at $1.99/lb. or less. HOWEVER, it may be worth looking in the meat department for clearance meats. While I often see meat packages marked down at Dominick’s for being close to the date, this Sunday was the first day I have seen them at Jewel in a long time. I picked up a 2 1/2 pound package of Hormel sirloin pork chops marked at $6.30. It was expiring 7/25, and it had a “peelie” on it for an instore-special of $4 off, which made it $2.30 – a great buy. I hope to see more of this in the future at Jewel!
Jewel seafood deals:
- Fresh whole catfish are $3.99/lb.
- 4oz. frozen seafood portions (scallops, tilapia, salmon) are $1 each – that works out to $4/lb.
Jewel produce deals:
- Organic bananas are .79/lb.
- 3lb. bags of yellow onions are $2.49 each – that’s .83/lb.
- 1lb. bags of Farm Stand carrots are .88 each (1lb. bags of Wild Harvest Organic baby carrots are $1.67)
- Yellow flesh peaches and nectarines are .99/lb. (white flesh $1.49/lb.)
- 3lb. bags of Red Delicious apples are $3.49 – that’s about $1.16/lb.
- Roma tomatoes are $1.49/lb.
- Eggplant, yellow squash or zucchini are $1.49/lb.
- Plums are $1.99/lb.
- Fresh green beans are $1.99/lb.
- Rainier cherries are $2.99/lb.
- Gold or green kiwis are .50 each
(Anytime meat is under $2 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $2 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices. This is also true for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | a href=”https://www.dominicks.com”>Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, support for previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also load some of these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?

Dominick’s is having a “Buy 4, Save $4” sale on a variety of items (through 7/27.) Unfortunately there are no prices in the ad — due to returning home from teaching in Baltimore, I was unable to go price-hunting. Here are your products and matchups: Crisco cooking oil (48oz.) Folger’s Coffee (10.3-11.3oz.) Folgers K-Cups (12ct.) Jif To Go (8-pack 1.5oz.) Pillsbury Cake or Brownie Mix (18.25-19.5) Smucker’s Goober (PB&J – 18oz.) Smucker’s Orchards Finest Preserves (12oz.) Smucker’s Spoonable Toppings (10-12.25oz.) [I’ve had readers write and say these are $1.99 or $2, which makes them a good deal with coupons] Smucker’s Strawberry Jam (32oz.) |
If you have any free 12-pack of Coca-Cola coupons from Coke Rewards, this might be a good week to use them. Dominick’s has Coca-Cola 12-packs on sale Buy 2, Get 2 FREE plus a FREE 11.3-16.6oz. Oreo Cookies!
Note that during this sale, Doms tends to jack the price up on their 12-packs (a ridiculous $5.99 each) and the Coke Rewards coupons are usually good up to $4.99. With 2 coupons, expect to pay that $1 difference between the Coke’s price and the coupon. Still, $2 for 4 12-packs isn’t bad!
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
16oz. white or wheat loaves of Nancy Martin Bread are .99 each
14.5oz. canned Safeway Diced Tomatoes are .88 each
5oz. cans of Safeway Chunk Light Tuna are .59 each, limit 10

For registering your card, you’ll receive an ecoupon for a FREE 12-ct. Lucerne large eggs! You’ll also activate a set of electronic discounts that are tied to your card for the next 90 days. Each person’s discounts are different, and they’re based on past purchases made with your Fresh Values card at Dominick’s.

Once you register with Meijer Mperks, you log into the Mperks website and click the electronic coupons you’d like to load to your account. Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Coupon books to look for at Walmart: “Bright Ideas, Delicious Cereals“ (Kellogg’s cereal and breakfast coupons)
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
Will I blog Walmart in its entirety each week?
I will not be blogging entire writeups for Walmart each week. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.
However, if there IS an ad with noteworthy sales or I’m aware of great coupon matchups, you’ll find those here too.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

I saw the other day at Target in North Aurora, they had some sumer stuff (water bottles, cups, pitchers) for 90% off. Not much left, but I got 4 big tumblers for $.20, and a metal water bottle with a little clip to attach to a bag for $.30.
Just FYI while you’re roaming around Target.

I went to do the Kelloggs/Fruit of the Loom deal at the Orland Meijer, but they only carry Hanes products. Since it was in the ad, customer service did take the $10 off 3 packs of Hanes.

If anyone is planning to get the Tidy Cat litter at Jewel, there is a $1 off Q (any size, any variety) in the 5/1 S2 (photo of dog in rain boots on the cover).
As always, thanks Jill!

If you don’t have the Danonino or Danimals coupons in your 6/5 RP, check the SS. I don’t have the Danimals and Danonino Q in my 6/5 RP (Activia is there), but looks like I had them in my 6/5 SS. (I used my Qs already, so I’m not sure of their expiration date, though.)

I do not receive the Dominick’s ad in my paper. Do they usually have them in the front of the store so I can get the super coupons or can I print them on my computer? I’ve never really shopped there before, but I’ll be going by one tomorrow. Thanks.
MamaHan says
I cut out the All You coupons, then cut out the Doms one for the Glade. The AY coupon is for the 9.7 oz. premium room spray, but the Doms Super Coupon is for the 9 oz. The pictures on the coupons look different as well, so I don’t think these can be paired up. It would have been very nice, though!

Do I have to do a separate transaction for each different item you have listed in the yellow Catalina box or will they all print if I lump them all together? Normally, I separate items but since you said each produces it’s own individual Cat, I’m wondering if I can combine offers this time…

The Schick’s deal seemed like too much math for me, but I had some Extra Care Bucks that were about to expire so I cut all the relevant coupons and decided to give it a try. My store only had one Skintimate Cream available, so I had to work around that. Here’s what I did:
I bought two Schick’s Quattro disposable 3 packs for $9.79 each. I bought one Skintimate Shave Cream for $2.19. My total was $21.77. I used the buy one get one free from 6/26 SS for the Quattro (-$9.79) and the internet Skintimate coupon (-$1.50). After Extra Care bucks of $10, I paid 48 cents.

Did the twizzlers deal yesterday with the $1/3Q and all 3 bags rang up at $1.50 ea. Total after Q and RR .83 per bag.
Thanks Jill for all your work.

Did anyone else get a Jewel dental catalina coupon in the last week or so? I got a $1.50/$7.00 store coupon on any dental purchase. This makes the Crest deal even better.

Farmland ham steaks are BOGO and there are printable $.55/1 Farmland coupons available if you like them on Facebook. Also, I have a $.75/1 farmland coupon that expires 7/31. I had already cut it out, so I don’t know where it came from and it’s not showing up on any of the databases.

A few weeks ago I found $1 off coupons on any Langers Juice at Jewel. I grabbed 2. So if anyone else has some you can buy 2 Langers juices for $4, use 2 $1 off coupons, and get $1 back which makes them .50 cents each!
Thanks Jill for teaching us how to shop. Everybody at my job thought I was nuts. I used to cut out coupons when needed. Here I was with little pieces of paper all over. Now I use ur method which is much MUCH easier. I told everyone about ur site and they passed it on. Now Im trying to show how easy it actually is to people who NEVER used to coupon at all. I can’t wait till u come to Melrose Park. There’s like 8 of us waiting to sign up when it’s posted. Thanks again!!

these frozen pancakes are kelloggs and they have .75 off two q on the box. I bought some before so I had some to start. I bought
(6) boxes of cinnabon pancakes 2/$4
(3) fruit of the loom boys sox
Used (3) .75/2 q
Got $10 instant
Paid $12.96 for the whole bunch! Pretty good to me. Would it be bad to cut the q out at the checkout to use at the time of purchase?

With the buy 2 packs of diapers at $29.99 each and get a $10 Target giftcard deal I also had a Target coupon to get an additional $5 giftcard when you purchased two packs of diapers (or TP, or paper towels). I know this coupon was from the paper, but sorry don’t know which flyer and when.
I had no problem using this coupon in addition to two $2.00 off Pampers coupons I had from a previous box of Pampers…which got me $15 back in target giftcards after spending $55 for two jumbo boxes.

Did anyone else get the Target Back to School mailer? IF so, DON’T THROW IT AWAY! There is a list of items advertised in there which reference to the Target store q’s in the middle insert. So, again one can combine the Target store coupon for any Scotch tape item with the man q and get it free.
Many of the store q’s that we printed or saw offered online are in this flier. So, if you hit your limit already, here are some more.

I was at Dominick’s this morning and tried to redeem a few catalina’s. They had Walgreens and Jewel on them. They were for, $1 off your next purchase, compliments of General Mills, etc. The cashier said that I could only use 1 of these catalina’s since it had another store name on it. However they were manufacturer coupon catalinas. Last night at Target I used about 10 from various places. I’m confused, can someone clarify for me? Thanks !

Just came back from Jewel in Round Lake Beach to get batteries. 16 were for $13.99. Walking around I found some 8 packs on sale from $7.99 down to $5.49 so already buying two of these are cheaper than one of the 16 pack. BUT…. they were apart of the CAT deal so you received a $2 CAT for each 8 pack you bought so making the 8 pack of batteries $3.49!!!! Good deal or not?!?! Sure beat paying $13.99 for the original 16 pack.

Went to do Malt-O-Meal cereal deal at jewel tonight but computer/cashier would not accept all coupons. Bought 8 bags, was able to use 2 buy 3 get 1 free and only 1 $1.00/2 Q’s. The computer would not accept the 2nd Q for $1.00/2. Cashier stated that she can only do what the computer said and it told her that too many Q’s were being used. Oh well…still not a bad deal. I should have been able to use the Q.

The Crest deal didn’t totally work tonight at Jewel. I have had the same 7 avenu items loaded on my preferred card forever. Even though I was unable to reload my avenu deals (some sort of error message)before going to the store, I figured that they would still be there. One of my avenu deals was for Crest. No dice. When I asked the cashier if avenu was down she had no idea what I was talking about. I should have voided my transaction then and there but I got a little flustered and left. Any recommendations on how to proceed on getting the $0.75 x 2?
