If you’re new to my blog, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon terminology and abbreviations.
A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on some Chicagoland stores, the Kroger, Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu or Safeway store you may find similar sales to our Jewel-Osco and Dominick’s deals. Welcome, and enjoy!
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.
“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

Grocery Deals
Starting at Jewel-Osco… View weekly ad | Load SavingStar ecoupons
IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations have updated their cash registers to a new system. If you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed. Watch your registers.
ANOTHER IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: Jewel-Osco has discontinued its Avenu ecoupons as of 6/18/12. The ecoupons you can currently use with Jewel-Osco now are via SavingStar and Jewel-Osco’s new ecoupons. Note that the ecoupons you can load to card are often the same as the ones you can print at Coupons.com. If you print them, you get two prints, but if you load them, you only get ONE. Just an FYI.
Jewel-Osco information:
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? At times, Jewel sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons and Deal Match offers
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Additional info:
If prints are still available, print this $2 off a $10 Lucerne Purchase printable, print it and use it with some more Lucerne (Safeway house brand) items this week.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles, and the Indianapolis area:
View weekly ad | Load Meijer Mperks ecoupons
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.
Heading over to Kroger… View weekly ad | Load Kroger ecoupons | Load SavingStar ecoupons | Load Cellfire ecoupons | Load ShortCuts ecoupons | Load PGEsaver.com ecoupons
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Kroger | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad | Load “Schnupons” ecoupons
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. The current ad is good through Tuesday, July 31st.
Off to Target…
View weekly ad | Print store coupons from Target.com …
Target Notes:
You get .05 off your total at Target for each reusable bag you bring and use. If you pay with the Target credit or debit card, you receive another 5% off.
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens (View weekly ad | On Fridays, preview next week’s ad)…
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE WALGREENS AD: Walgreens is no longer putting its entire ad in the paper newspaper version. There are online-only ad pages that you can look at via this link: View weekly ad
And finally, over at CVS (View weekly ad) | Load SavingStar ecoupons
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! You may want to scan your coupon more than once – it’s been printing different coupons on subsequent scans!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is filled with many coupons each month. Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

On my CVS card, it printed a 4.00 off 20.00 beauty coupon (I think it is printing on most peoples). So I combined that with the Olay manufacturer coupons and the spend 25.00/get 5.00 back and it all worked out to be free.

I was trying to figure out what those were when I realized it was STARkist tuna you were talking about!
Isn’t the sun the largest star?
Next week will be Starkist 2 liters on sale. Just kidding with you!

Just wanted to ad that Walgreens has almonds on sale this week. It isn’t a steal, but with many nuts at sky high prices right now, I am picking up some there.
Depending on the price of the 9 oz cans…1 lb NICE almonds in the bag is $3.99 this week.
The 9 oz cans are B1G1 free also. I think both are either raw (for baking) or roasted (for snacking).
I will report back what the price of the 9oz cans turns out to be, as it was not listed in the ad.

I was actually able to do this deal two times (even though it says limit 1!) Once last night, and again today.

Cheerios one size on sale for 1.88

Scotch heavy duty packing tape saw one priced at 2.49 combine with coupon “07-22 S Scotch Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape Roll $0.50 /1”.
Pepsi Next 2 Liters have been difficult to find several places are sold out when I went.
StarKist tuna pouch priced at 1.49.
“07-15 S Starkist Tuna Pouch products $0.55 /1”
I don’t know if it’s the best price but sold out a few places is Oscar Mayer Butcher Cut Bacon reg priced at 9.49 use with “06-17 S Oscar Mayer Butcher Thick Cut Bacon $0.55 /1” coupon expires Aug 12th.
Has anyone ever seen this product on sale before at Schnucks and what have you seen it on sale for?
Prices may or may not vary by location. This is what I found priced in my area.

Is there a form for the rebate? How do I get it? Did that deal today and would love the extra $10. Thanks?

Just went and did the Olay deal at CVS. As stated earlier, using both coupons DOES work. I also got a $4 off any $20 Olay purchase and $4 off any $20 Beauty purchase from the magic coupon machine today! Subtotal was $0.96, used $1.00 ECB to cover it, payed tax, and ended up MAKING over $10 with ECB+MIR! Very satisfied with my first transaction.
I got $1 off any $5 purchase of Dawn from the coupon machine as well today. Paired nicely with the current sale and PG coupons.
Hope everyone has a great of luck as I did!

The Dominick’s Planter PB is on sale for $2.99 not $1.99. Also, I am not sure if something has changed with Dominick’s coupon policy and I did not know. I have seen in a few places where it states to stack a Dominick’s J4U e-coupon with a manufacture’s coupon. I thought that the Dominick’s e-coupons were Manuf. coupons not store coupons and could not be stacked. Or have I been thinking wrong this past year?

Huggies slip ons are on sale for $9.49. There is a $4.00 coupon in the August store booklet and currently there is a $2.00 huggies slip on manufacturer coupon (I’m not sure what insert, but I know it expires 8/4)
$9.49-$4-$2= $3.49 final price for slip on jumbo pack.

I found an Aveeno skin care deal at Jewel this week. My daughter has bad eczema and has to use certain soaps so this one was a steal for me. Aveeno products are on sale for 20% off and in the ad there is a store coupon for $5 off $20 purchase of Johnson & Johnson Products. All the subbrands (Aveeno, Band-Aid, Bengay, etc.) are listed right on the coupon. Since it’s a store coupon you can combine it with manufacturer coupons and there is a$2/1 Aveeno Hair Care or Body Wash coupon in the 6/3 SS. At my store the Aveeno body washes, after the 20% off, were on sale for $5.59..I bought four and using the $5 store coupon and four of the $2 manufacturer coupons, I paid $9.36 for all four washes. That’s a steal given each one of those is usually $5-$7! This would work as well with some hair care items as well or other types of body wash by Aveeno.

I was at the McHenry Target this morning and checked out with 3 boxes of the Frosted Flakes and two of the Shredded Mini Wheats Touch of Fruit. The $5 gift card did not print out, so I went to the Service Desk, where she rescanned the Frosted Flakes 5x & the computer showed the gift card. When she tried it by ringing 5 of the Touch of Fruit boxes, the computer did not show the gift card. They were nice enough to give it to me anyway since all 5 boxes were on sale for $2.75 and were all the same size. Not sure if anyone else had the same problem when trying to buy any cereal besides Frosted Flakes, which is the only one shown in the ad.

I didn’t think you could stack the e-coupons on Dominick’s JFU with paper coupons. Has this changed? I know in the past I couldn’t do this (they wouldn’t take the paper coupon) so I haven’t tried in a while.

Just did the Olay deal at CVS, but my machine didn’t print $4/$20 in beauty like for someone else. Instead it printed $2/$10 in beauty and $2/$8 in body washes, so I still got $4 off on top of my Qs.
Also bought 6 Head and Shoulders and used 3 BOGO Qs which scanned at full value, so paid $1.47 + tax and got $5 ECB back!
Ruby Red says
Even though the ad says Buy 4 get a 1.00 cat, my Jewel had signs up on the shelves that said Buy 2, get a 1.00 cat. I bought 8 cans and received (4) 1.00 cats. That made them 75 cents a can with the two 1.00/4 coupons I used! Yum!

is the B2G$3cat a national catalina or only at Meijer?
Wondering because my JFU Doms has the same cascade for 4.29. . . which would make this deal even sweeter!
didnt there use to be a link to see the national catalinas or am I just missing it?
Thanks!

If you go to CVS for the $.99 dawn deal they have going on right now, make sure you scan your CVS card to get a $1 off $5 purchase of dawn to stack with your other coupons. I bought 5 bottles of dawn for $4.95, used the $1 off bringing it down to $3.95 then had 4 $.50/1(7/29 PG) and 1 $.25/1(7/1 PG) bring the total down to $1.70 for 5 bottles of dawn dish soap.

These were introduced in 2009 to select areas then all over in the US in 2010. It was Coca-Colas response to “portion control options” regarding the obesity crisis and the looming debate that was a HOT TOPIC at the time regarding taxing sugary drinks. But as it was pointed out to me the 7.5 oz cans still hold more than the 6.5 ounce that our folks grew up with.

Target has a Target printable Q for $1.00 off 3 Kellogg’s cereals. Can I stack that with 5 manu. Q and still get the $5 GC? I think I may have read somewhere before that for the GC promos, Target considers that to be a Q (???) and so a Target Q can not be worked in to the deal.
I’d like to know before I shop later today…TIA!
