This is a GREAT chance to buy any Fathers’ Day gift cards you might be contemplating… or, my favorite pick from this deal? GASOLINE gift cards. I did two rounds of BP/Amoco gift cards and essentially bought $200 worth of gas for $160. Other surprising gift card choices? My Jewel also had Southwest Airlines, Ticketmaster, and Ebay gift cards, in addition to the usual department stores, restaurants, movies and home improvement centers.

The red Jewel “Fresh Summertime Fun” in-store coupon book has a coupon inside for $2 off a $10 Homelife products purchase. My beautiful Aunt Bonnie spotted Homelife plastice utensils (forks, knives, spoons, or assorted) on sale for $1 this week at Jewel. If you need these for summertime picnics, entertaining, or just want to stock up, buy 10 packages. Then, with the coupon in the book, pay $8 for 10 – that’s .80 each, even cheaper than buying them at the dollar store.

As long as this still has print limits..! Reader Avenger spotted a printable coupon for $2 off a $25 purchase at Jewel!
Jewel-Osco information:
Jewel-Osco has a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there.
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? Jewel regularly sends out coupons to match with their current sales, and often they’re store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons!
Coupon books currently found at Jewel:
Celebrate Summertime Fun – coupons for beef, alcohol, and a nice $2 off any Culinary Circle Artisan bread coupon

Jewel meat deals:
- Split chicken breasts or thighs are $1/lb. – great price!
- Chicken drumsticks are $1.29/lb.
- Hormel Always Tender pork country-style ribs are $1.99/lb.
- Jewel is running its “Fav 4” sale on meats too. Buy any meat items marked “Fav 4” and get 4 for $20. As with anything, watch your per-pound prices here and try to stay around $2/lb. for your best deals.
Jewel produce deals:
- Broccoli is .99/lb.
- Cauliflower is .99/lb.
- Zucchini is .99/lb.
- Yellow squash is .99/lb.
- Eggplant is .99/lb.
- Baking potatoes are .99/lb.
- Onions are .99/lb.
- Braeburn, Cameo, or Jonagold apples are $1.29/lb.

- Nectarines are $1.99/lb.
- Tomatoes on the vine are $1.99/lb.
- Fresh sweet corn is .33 an ear
- Cucumbers are .59 each
- Jewel is running its “Fav 4” sale on produce too. Buy any produce items marked “Fav 4” and get 4 for $10. As with anything, watch your per-pound prices here. Your better deals are going to be things like the 3lb. bags of Gala and Red Delicious apples, which work out to $2.50. Avoid the 4-count ears of sweet corn which will also price out at a whopping $2.50 for 4 ears..! Ouch.
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s (View weekly ad)…
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, support for previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also load some of these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?
In the June 9-June 15 flyer – “Get New Deals Every Week” on cover:
- Safeway Softly or Thirsty 9-12ct. bath tissue or 6-8ct. paper towels are $4.88 each, limit 2, with Super Coupon.
- Safeway Frozen Vegetables (12-16oz.) are .99 a bag, limit 4, with Super Coupon.
In the June 12-June 18 flyer – “4 Day Sale” on cover:
- Finish or Powerball Dishwasher Detergent (25-32ct.) is $4.99, limit 2, with Super Coupon. Use the $1 coupon from 6/12 SS and pay $3.99. Yes, we’ve seen this cheaper, but if you need it, it’s not a terrible deal.
Lunchables Cracker Combos are on sale for $1.25. Use the $1 coupon from 5/15 SS and pay .25!
Wonderful Pistachios (8oz.) are on sale for $4.99, Buy One Get One Free. Use the $1 coupon from 3/20 SS and pay $3.99 for two, or about $2 each! If you grabbed any extra copies of the free Jewel Spotlight magazine during the week of 3/21, there was also a $1 manufacturer coupon for Wonderful Pistachios on the cover as well.
Remember that Dominick’s does not allow a second manufacturer coupon to be used on a B1G1F sale.
16oz. tubs of Lucerne Sour Cream are on sale for $1.77. Use the .50 ecoupon at Dominicks.com and drop this to $1.27…
Dominick’s is running a “Mix and Match” instant-savings sale. Buy 8 or more products featured in the ad, and receive an instant .50 off each item. The ad touts that over 3,000 items are included… I must confess that I did not write them all down at the store :) Here’s a list of your best bets with this sale. _______________________________________________
Dominick’s is running a “$2 off your shopping trip when you buy 4 Hallmark Cards” offer (through 6/21, limit 1 per transaction.) .99 cards are excluded, so your best bet here is to buy 4 $1.99 cards, which you’ll ultimately pay $5.96 for = $1.49 each (Through 6/21.)
If you haven’t yet signed up for the “Just For U“ electronic discounts that you can load to your Dominick’s Fresh Values card, you may want to. For registering your card, you’ll receive an ecoupon for a FREE 12-ct. Lucerne large eggs! You’ll also activate a set of electronic discounts that are tied to your card for the next 90 days. Each person’s discounts are different, and they’re based on past purchases made with your Fresh Values card at Dominick’s.

Want FREE marinade? Many Dominick’s will marinate your fresh meat free at the meat counter, so depending on what you’re buying, you may want to take advantage of that.
Dominick’s produce deals:
- Red seedless grapes are .99/lb.
- Yellow peaches are .99/lb.
- Cucumbers are .50 each

Meijer is running its “Buy 10 for $10, Get the 11th FREE” sale again. Remember that with this sale, the 11th item that is scanned at the checkout lane IS your free item, and Meijer does not typically allow a coupon to be used on a free item. So, make sure that your 11th item scanned is a NON-coupon item, like produce or a store-brand item. Best bets this week?

My thoughts? I LOVE to stock up on the Old Orchard Juice Concentrates during these sales. Buying 11 of them with one coupon will cost $9, or about .82 per juice. For that price, I am always happy to mix my own juices up! I also LOVE the ground turkey at $1/lb. here. It is primarily dark meat, but I like to use it for tacos and sloppy joes.

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.

Reader Beaner2 sent a deal on Dr. Scholl’s women’s shoe insoles. They’re involved in a gift card deal – buy two and get a $5 Target gift card back. She writes, “Many of the women’s insoles are on sale for $6.99. These are the usually-expensive gel filled kind, not those cheap foam ones.” So, buy two at $6.99. Use the $1 Target store coupon on their site at this link and stack it with two $1 manufacturer printable coupons.
After coupons, pay $10.98 and get a $5 gift card back… $5.98 for two is $2.99 each. If you like these, that’s less than half their regular price.
SuperTarget produce deals:
- 5lb. bags of Market Pantry russet potatoes are $1.99 – that’s .40/lb.
- Yellow peaches are $1.29/lb.
Target Notes:

Heading to Walgreens (View weekly ad)…
It wouldn’t be a good shopping week at Walgreens without freebies..! Kicking things off is a deal on Wal-Fex 24-Hour Allergy Relief (5ct. – it’s their version of Allegra.) It’s on sale for $3.99. Buy it and get $3.99 back in Register Rewards, making it FREE! And look around the store… some stores have a Walgreens booklet about allergy relief near the pharmacy or in the aisle. If you find this, there’s a $1 coupon inside for the Wal-Fex that will make this a moneymaker.
Bayer Advanced Aspirin (20-24ct.) is on sale for $3. Buy it and get $1 back in RRs. Use the $2 coupon from 6/12 SS, pay $1 and get $1 back, making this FREE! The same deal is running at CVS too.

If you have an AARP card (or shop with someone who does) remember that through June 25th, AARP members can show their card and receive a $3 Register Reward for in $10 Walgreens-store-brand purchases. This does work pre-coupon, so if you’ve got the infant care coupon book, you can do this one of two ways…
Buy three jumbo packs of Walgreens Premium Diapers ($14.97.) The Infant Care coupon takes $2 off EACH pack, so now you’re at $8.97. Pay $8.97 and get $3 back, which works out to $5.97 for three packs, or $1.99 each!
Or do the deal with a cheap filler! Two jumbo packs puts you at $9.98, just two cents shy of $10. Find something super-cheap that’s Walgreens brand to throw in here. I like the purse packs of facial tissues, which are usually 3-for-$1.
With a .34 pack of tissue plus your two Jumbo packs, you’ll be at $10.32. Use the $2 Infant Care coupon, which again takes $2 off each diaper pack. Now you’re at $6.32. Pay and get $3 back – $3.32 for two is an incredible $1.66 per pack!
(Of course, if you want to stock up, buying 3 at a time is definitely faster, and you’re only spending .33 more per pack.)
Edge or Skintimate shaving gel is $1.99, limit 4, with the store coupon in this week’s Wags ad. Stack this with the .55 manufacturer coupon for either from the 5/22 SS and pay $1.44!

Why not get a cheap Schick razor to go with your cheap shaving gels? Schick Hydro razors are on sale for $8.99. Buy one and get $4 back in Register Rewards! Use the $4 coupon from the 6/12 SS, pay $4.99 and get $4 back… and you’ve knocked that razor down to a cool .99!
Or, head over to CVS, where the same razor is FREE with their deal…
Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaner is on sale for $2.99, Buy One Get One Free with the store coupon in this week’s Dominick’s ad. Stack this with the $1-off-2 in the 6/12 SS. You’ll pay $1.99 for two, or about $1 each! Good price for this.
Natural Instincts Haircolor is on sale for $5.99. Buy it and get $1 back in RRs. There are coupons in the new 6/12 RP for $2 off (the regular kind) and $3 off (the “vibrant” kind. BE WARNED that if you aren’t aware, the new “vibrant” variety is a PERMANENT haircolor, not a temporary.)
With the $3 coupon, pay $2.99 and get $1 back, knocking this to $1.99! With the $2 coupon, it will work out to $2.99.
The Coca-Cola lover in me is happy to see that all licensed Coca-Cola products are on sale 25% off this week at Walgreens… every year I seem to find some cool, irresistible Coke-themed drinking glasses and tumblers, among other things…

“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
Dozen cartons of eggs are $1.49.
CVS is again running a gas card promotion that will run for the next few weeks. Spend $30 on selected items in the ad and get a $10 gas card. Your CVS Extra Care Card will track the $30 for you.
CVS Tip: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Huggies 64ct. Baby Wipes are $1.97. Use the .50 coupon from 6/12 SS and pay $1.47!
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
Wal-Mart has numerous Blu-Ray movie titles on sale for $10, including Clash of the Titans, Sherlock Holmes, Terminator Salvaion, Full Metal Jacket, The Dark Knight, and more. They’ve also got a Vizio Blu-Ray player on sale for $88 (Father’s Day ideas, anyone?)
FREE Gain Dishwashing Liquid: The P&G $110 Everyday Savings coupon mailer contains a coupon for $1 off Gain Dishwashing Liquid. Walmart sells Gain for .97 (exp. 6/30/11)
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.” I have heard from one reader who used a $3 Register Reward on a $2.49 copy of All You magazine and DID receive change, in cash.
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
Will I blog Walmart in its entirety each week?
I will not be blogging entire writeups for Walmart each week. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.
However, if there IS an ad with noteworthy sales or I’m aware of great coupon matchups, you’ll find those here too.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Early tonight! Appreciate that; now to check my personal deals against Jill’s to see how I am doing in picking the best of the best. But I already hit Walgreens today for the Schick Hydro and Gillette Fusion ProGlide razors, Blistex lip balm for my son, and the Bayer. Only one of each item…no shelf clearing here.

If you saved some printable $2 off 1/2 lb of Di Lusso lunch meat from a few weeks back (when they were doing the buy meat get a mustard or bread deal), this week Jewel has the Di Lusso Deluxe Ham for $2.49 a 1/2 lb. Terrible price by couponing standards BUT with this coupon that comes down to .49 a 1/2 lb. If, like me, you have TWO coupons get yourself two 1/2 pound orders so you can redeem BOTH coupons and pay .98 for a pound of “deluxe” lunch meat.
And a shout out to Jill for posting deals so early!

We headed over to Jewel to take advantage of the Buy 10, Save $5 instant sale in order to stock up on some cake & brownie mix. In addition to buying the Betty Crocker brownie mix we also wanted to buy the Betty Crocker Super Moist mixes which were featured in the ad. After ringing up and using our matching coupons we waited for the savings to be deducted but it never happened. So, we headed over to Customer Service to double check that we had purchased the correct items for the sale. They were extremely helpful but couldn’t understand why the deal hadn’t worked. She then pulled out a huge binder which listed the exact item names & UPCs that were included in the sale. NONE of the cake mixes that I purchased were included in the deal. So we then walked over to the aisle together so that I could swap out for the correct ones. After looking it over NONE of the mixes on the shelf were valid for this offer, NOT the ones tagged as part of the sale & NOT even the pictured in the ad!!!
The cashier was willing to work with me and I ended up buy the brownie mixes and frostings instead; but, I’ve got say it was a very upsetting situation. This was blatant false advertisement!!! Everything from the tags on the shelves to the printed circulars were completely misleading. Jill, what would you have done?

I just wanted to share the awesome deal on Motrin PM I got @ CVS this morning! Over the last few weeks I had noticed some $2.00 off any Motrin PM coupons right on the shelves both at my local CVS and Jewel. I picked up a couple and put them away hoping that a good deal would come up to use them on; and, boy was the worth wait it!!! This weeks CVS deal for FREE Motrin PM after coupon & ECBs was good enough; but, after tossing on that $2.00 off coupon each bottle became a $1.00 moneymaker! Yeah, it was pretty sweet BUT IT GOT EVEN BETTER!!! If you scan your card at the coupon center it’ll spit out a $3 off $10 in First Aid coupon. That’s right it worked on the Motrin PM!!! I bought 3 bottles and ended making $2.00 off of each!

Im not sure on what a good price for laundry detergent is, but wanted to mention that I did get the xtra detergent at jewel this week for about 1.27 a bottle. I was running low at home so was looking for the best deal right now. Sale price in jewel flyer was 2.59 a bottle… When I got there the shelf price was 1.77 a bottle… Used $1/2 from a 5/1 insert and got two bottles for 2.54.

The Meijer Dannon deal is buy any $10 worth of Dannon items get a custom q for $2.00. I did the deal on friday and purchased six 4-packs of Danimals for $1.89/package…used 6 $1/1 q’s…so I paid $5.34 and got a $2 q back…so only $3.34 for 6 or $0.57/package and I only had to buy 6….not 10

It wasn’t in the add but they have Soft Scrub on sale for $3. There was a BOGO Free coupon in this weeks RP. It is involved with the Purex. Also you can use the Renuizit Cones $1/each and there was a B2G1 Free that can also be worked into the deal.

Jill, I tried to do this deal last week and they told me it only applied to the gift cards that were shown in the picture. It never actually SAID it only applied to those cards, but that is what the manager told me – it is the picture of the iTunes, Kmart, Lowes, etc. Just an FYI for anyone who shops at the northside Jewel on Western in Chicago. I had to abandon the deal…

Some of the Walgreen’s RR’s are now printing “Redeemable only at Walgreen’s”. I assume Jewel will no longer be accepting these. Wonder if this is a new trend by Wag’s to keep the money in their stores.

Just wanted to give a heads up in case anybody was going to throw these into their “Buy 10, get 11th free” pile… I went to the Elgin Meijer last Thursday and tried to do the deal with 2 of the frozen 1 lb turkey chubs, but they didn’t end up ringing up as part of the deal. I thought I must have misread the sign, so I just threw in some packs of Orbit to get my 11th free, but maybe they were supposed to work.

Jewel has pork chops for buy one get one. Can I use two $1 off pork coupons as long as the overall price does not go below free? So for example 2 packages each priced $4 (2x$4=$8). The bogo coupon reduces it to $4 and then two $1 for a bottom line price of $2. I was told that I could not use a coupon on a free item.

I did the Buy 5, Save 5 deal on Oscar Mayer products at Jewel, but the $4 catalina didn’t print, which I didn’t realize until after I got home. I then printed out the deal from the website and took it in. Every week I see the “produce deals” listed in this article. Occasionally there is a really good deal there, but just about everything I see listed under the Jewel “deals” is a higher price than the regular price at the Joe Caputo store that is right across the street from the Algonquin Jewel I frequent.
Ditto for most of Woodman’s produce prices.
I realize that not every one has access to one of these two stores, but produce is something I almost NEVER buy from Jewel or Dominicks.

I go to Mariano’s now for a lot of produce. You can also do double coupon days there on wed and sat, up to $1 each coupon, 5 per transaction.
They have a great selection, lots of sampling (yum), little carts for the youngsters and much of the produce is always cheaper.
I am always careful about freshness at Caputos, Eurofresh and Valli . . . yes they are cheaper but the shelf-life is about 1/2 that of Jewel or Marianos. You can’t plan too far ahead for a party, for example.
Same with Aldi – lots of cheaper produce but you have to be willing to check through many layers for good choices and be also willing to eat them right away.
Jill, it seems that Marianos has consistently lower prices on organics, such as the Annie’s mac-n-cheese and some of the frozen as well. Kind of far drive for you though!!!!

I had a rain check on a wags product. It was BOGO free in the store. I bought 2 and then used my manufacture BOGO coupon. Work this scenario work using the gift card deal at Jewel?
Could I buy 6 Best Buy gift cards at Jewel for $100 each and then redeem at Best Buy? Thus paying $629 Ipad 2 while taking home $120 worth of Catalinas from Jewel? Or would that just lead to paying tax twice (which is 9.75% in the city)?
coupondad says
The gift card deal ended yesterday I think ;o)
No tax on gift cards so you would have been fine there.
When buying stuff of great value think about heading to Indiana or a neighboring suburb
(outside of cook county) to make your purchase and to save on tax.
I live close enough to Indiana to make the trip 2x a month. While there I visit family,
shop for groceries tax-free and fill up with cheap gas. I have even taken my
empty gas cans along, filled them up to use on a second vehicle still at home.
Crazy I know but as they say, “If you mind the pennies the dollars take
care of themselves ;o)
