Unless otherwise noted, GROCERY store deals run through WEDNESDAY of this week,
and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.

(Also, if you’re new, you may not have some of the coupon books that I refer to for some deals. Some coupon books can be found at the grocery store during seasonal promotions — look for them, as I’ll reference them when applicable. And, throughout the year, companies issue free coupon books that you can request to be mailed to you — register for them if you’d like, as I’ll reference them in future weeks’ deals.

“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)

Tostitos are $1.50 a bag, but the coupon expires 6/19! Shop soon.
The Starbucks coupon is a manufacturer coupon with a Walgreens logo, so it should work at Jewel. Buying three Starbucks products will put you at $13.47 – $3 coupon = $10.47 for three, or $3.49 per 4-pack.

Jewel-Osco Catalina Deals

If you need paper towels, here are a couple of deals you could do…

Scott Mega Paper Towels (8 roll equivalent to 12) are on sale for $7.99. The 5/13 SS has a $1 coupon.

Buying four puts you at $31.96. Coupons will take you below $30, so if you have four coupons, you’re looking at $27.96. Add in two “fillers” of your choice:
 – Clorox Bleach, 82-96oz., $1.99
 – Palmolive dish detergent, 25oz.  – $2
 – Clorox wipes, toilet bowl cleaner (25ct., 24oz.) – $2
 – Pine-Sol (28oz.) – $2

With two $2 fillers, you’re at $31.96 again. Pay $31.96 and get a $10 Catalina! That’s $21.96 for four 8-packs of Scott, or $5.49 each. Per roll, that works out to about .69… plus two “free” cleaning items.

Brawny Giant Roll Paper Towels (8 roll equivalent to 12) are on sale for $9.99. The 6/10 RP has a $1 coupon.

Buying three puts you at $29.97. With three $1 coupons, you’re at $26.97. Add in two $2 fillers from above to get to $30.97.

Pay $30.97 and get a $10 Catalina! That’s $20.97 for three 8-packs of Brawny, or $6.99 each. Per roll, that works out to about .87 each… plus two “free” cleaning items.

“No Coupon Needed” Jewel-Osco Deals

  • Tomatoes on the vine are .99/lb.
  • Sweet onions are .99/lb.

Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Dominicks Grocery Deals

If you have two coupons, they will cover the prices of the first two cases, and the other two cases will be FREE with the store’s sale, plus you’ll get a free package of chips.

 Now, you’d think that would be FOUR free cases of Coke, but Dominick’s puts their 12-packs notoriously high during this sale at $6.29 each. The Coke Rewards free coupons are good up to $4.99, so you’ll pay $1.30 each for your first two packs, then get the other two free plus free chips. That’s $2.60 for four 12-packs, or about .65 each – and again, don’t forget to grab your free chips too.

“No Coupon Needed” Dominick’s Deals

  • Fresh 80% lean ground beef is $2.99/lb.

  • 4oz. lobster tails are $5.99 each

  • Yellow peaches or nectarines are $1.99/lb.
  • Vine ripe tomatoes are $1.99/lb.

Reader ShwaramaFan did a price-check and emailed that the regular-size shampoos and conditioners (I believe these are 10oz.) are $3.24, and hair spray is $4.49. Buy one of each (now $7.73) and use the $3-off-2 coupon from the 5/13 PG. Pay $4.73 and get a $5 Catalina… and you’ve got FREE Pantene!

UPDATE: The 6/7 ad is showing the 25.4oz. Pantenes for $5.79. I am not sure if the smaller bottles prices has changed. Due to the long price-checking at Jewel this week, I didn’t get to Meijer to check. If the small bottles have gone up, please let me know! Thanks.

With two $1 coupons, pay $8,98 and get a $3 Catalina! That’s $5.98 for two, or $2.99 each – the cheapest we’ve seen Cascade in quite some time.

Or, if you don’t want sofener, buy one All and two Clorox Bleach ($10.95). Use one $1 All couon. Pay $9.95 and get a $3 Catalina! That’s $6.95 for all three items. If you would have bought the Clorox at $1.98 each anyway (a fair price) that’s like paying $2.99 for the big All.

CVS/pharmacy Drugstore Deals

For a toothpaste deal, use the $1 coupon. Pay $2.19 and get $1 back. That drops this to $1.19, a good price for Tom’s, which rarely goes on sale.

For a deodorant deal, buy the Naturally Dry. Use the $2.50 coupon. Pay .69 and get $1 back for FREE deodorant and a moneymaker!

This offer is limit 2 per card, so you can do one of each… or two of one.

The 6/3 PG has a .25 coupon for Crest Rinse 458ml or larger. (Hey, P&G, would it kill you to either make your sizes and coupons in mililiters OR ounces, but not both?! Metric conversions at 2am are a real pain in the posterior. But I digress.)

Well, clearly the 1-liter bottle is large enough for this coupon, but digging deep into my unused-for-20+-years metric skills tells me that 458ml is about 15.5 ounces. If I converted that correctly, that is. And 16 ounces is bigger than 15.5 ounces, so you’re good to use the coupon on either bottle. Whew!

So, buy one. Use your coupon. Pay $4.74 and get $3 back. That drops your mouthwash to $1.74. Not the best deal considering the math involved, but the 1 liter bottle is equivalent to a little over 33 ounces, so that’s your better buy.

DEAL IDEAS:

Good Pampers deal:
Buy 1 box of Pampers and five Gain dishwashing liquids ($29.94.) ECBs at CVS usually trigger when they’re within pennies of the total, but if you’re worried, you can throw in one more .99 Gain too.

For this deal though, we’ll assume that you’re going with just five Gains. Use the $!.50 Pampers coupon and four .50 Gain coupons. Pay $26.44 and get $10 back in ECBs! That’s $16.44 for the giant box of Pampers, plus five “free” bonus bottles of Gain.

(Like P&G coupons are limited to four per transaction. If you want to use a coupon on the 5th Gain, split your transactions, and the ECBs will print on completion of the second transaction. This will drop everything to $15.94.)

A Tide and Gain deal:
Buy 4 Tides ($23.76) one Gain laundry detergent (now $29.70) and one Gain dish liquid (now $30.69.)

Use four $1 Tide coupons, one .50 Gain laundry coupon and one .50 Gain dish coupon (now $25.69.)

Pay $25.69 and get $10 back! That’s $15.69 for five bottles of laundry detergent, or about $3.14 each, plus a “free” bonus Gain dish! GOOD prices for Tide and Gain here.

An all-Duracell deal:
Buy 3 Duracell ($35.97.) Use three .75 coupons (now $33.72.) Pay $33.72 and get $10 back! That’s $23.72 for three packages, or about $7.91 each.

Paper Products deals:
If you need Bounty or Charmin, buy 3 packages ($29.97.) ECBs at CVS usually trigger when they’re within pennies of the total, but if you’re worried, you can throw in a .99 Gain too. (And if you throw it in, use the .50 coupon on it, of course!)

For this deal though, we’ll assume that you’re going with just Bounty or Charmin. Use three .25 coupons. Pay $29.22 and get $10 back! That’s $19.22 for three big paper packs, or about $6.41 each.

If you did an all-Bounty deal, that works out to about .53 per roll. For Charmin, that works out to about .40 per double roll – good prices all around.

CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you! You may want to scan your coupon more than once – it’s been printing different coupons on subsequent scans!

And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…

Wal-Mart Store Deals

Policies to know:

  • Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
     
  • With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
     
  • With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
     
  • Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
     

I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.

I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

Mariano’s doubles up to 5 coupons worth $1 every Wednesday…Based on their sale this week, you can get International Delight iced coffee for $.99…It’s on sale for $2.99 and the $1 off coupon will double to $2. Pure leaf iced tea is on sale for $1.99-if you use the $1 off coupon, it will make this FREE! The same goes for Weber Gril BBQ sauce…use the $1 off coupon from this Sunday’s newspaper and you can get this for FREE as well! Of course, you must spend $25 before you can begin to double coupons but it’s always good to take advantage of a good deal.

  14. This weeks Jewel deals lists a B1G1 coupon in the 6/3 P&G, for the Gillette Men Disposable razors. I found the same B1G1 coupon in the 5/13 P&G insert!

I went to jewel at wauconda yesterday morning and was doing my usual Monday couponing ( thanks to Jill) and on the check out counter after the cashier scanned all the items i presented my coupons and told the cashier i have rain checks for my several items….. this cashier got upset and freak out and told me that i should have told her before she scanned the items! If only she asked me prior to scaning the items i could have given it to her. Granting i knew (and i dont) would it be a proper or. A good customer service to get upset and to a client? I told her only if she asked or informed me about the aspect of the raincheck i could have presented it to her. Now she called her supervisor and asked what to do.

  16. Her supervisor even agreed with me about the inappropriate attitude of the cashier. I’ve noticed the cahier several times because of her rude behavior. I wanted to know what number or email i can call to report this cashier to the corporate. I could have just forget about this incident but i was treated rudely and embarrassed in front of other customers behind me.

  18. I bought 4 Scott Paper Towels ($20), 2 cans of olives, and 1 ActII popcorn ($0.25). I used 4 $1 Mfg. Qs on the paper towels and $1 Wags Store Q. Wags doesn’t use post-coupon amount in order to determine RRs do they? I didn’t receive the $5 RR. The cashier entered the AARP number manually (she said they usually scan with some bar code on the back). Our card didn’t have it. Any thoughts? TIA

  19. fyi – if you still have the jewel fresh summertime fun book that expired 06/20/12, there is a truvia coupon in there that does not expire until 08/15/12. it’s a manufacturer coupon and does not have the jewel logo on it either.

  20. Surprise, bought the 10 for $5 Yoplait yogurt today at Jewel. I bought 20, 10 for me and 10 for my kid. Received two catalinas, one for 1.25 and one for 2.00 for my next visit. Made a good deal even better.

  21. The $5.00 Friday deals included 22 oz. thick cut Oscar Meyer bacon. Many had $1.00 off coupons. I’m fairly new to this way of shopping, but it seemed pretty good to me.
