Hello, Super-Couponers! June is officially here, and we’re headed into prime outdoor-cooking, grilling, and entertaining season. This Monday morning, I’ll be appearing on Chicago’s WGN 9 News (after 8:30am) to discuss ways to cut grocery bills for outdoor entertaining, 4th of July cookouts, and the like. One of those tips, of course, is to start shopping the sales now, as they come, getting stocked up before you need pop, paper goods, and other related groceries.
While this week’s grocery sales seemed a little lighter than normal deal-wise, there are still plenty of great bargains to be found. I especially like the moneymaker gift card deals around town (just in time for Father’s Day!) as well as the crazy haircare products deal at Target… and of course, the drugstore freebies!
This week’s newspaper contained THREE coupon inserts: Procter & Gamble (PG,) SmartSource (SS,) and RedPlum (RP.) Also look for single sheet coupons in your paper for $1 off Cholula Hot Sauce, a single sheet coupon for $3 off any Iams ProActive dog or cat food, and another single sheet of Target store coupons for P&G products. These coupons have long expiration dates (8/31!)
It’s time for Deals of the Week once again. I’ve got all the best supermarket and drugstore deals of the week written just for you… all in one place, on one page! As always, grab your scissors and coupon inserts, and get ready to start clipping this week, as bunches of bargains and freebies are heading your way!

“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, you do need to be getting the paper with the “best,” highest-value coupons.)

Starting at Jewel-Osco… (View weekly ad)
If you’re not yet a member of Jewel-Osco’s email list, you may want to sign up! They’re offering a $5-off-$25 coupon if you sign up, and another $5-off-$25 for every friend you refer to their signups too..
Moneymaker Gift Card Deal! Through 6/18. Jewel is running a “Buy $100 worth of gift cards, get $20 Catalina” gift card sale! Buying $100 worth of any gift cards (excludes Jewel-Osco, Visa, Mastercard, and Amex cards) and get a $20 Catalina for your next shopping trip.
This is a GREAT chance to buy any Fathers’ Day gift cards you might be contemplating… or, my favorite pick from this deal? GASOLINE gift cards. I did two rounds of BP/Amoco gift cards and essentially bought $200 worth of gas for $160. Other surprising gift card choices? My Jewel also had Southwest Airlines, Ticketmaster, and Ebay gift cards, in addition to the usual department stores, restaurants, movies and home improvement centers…
Mountain High Large Yoghurt (32oz tubs, indeed, they’re large) are $2.50 each. Use the $1 coupon from 5/8 SS and pay $1.50 – that’s less than .05 per ounce, a very good price if you don’t mind a big tub.
Fage Yogurt Cups (5.3-7oz. cups) are on sale for $1.25 each. Buy 5 and print this $2-off-5 coupon. You’ll pay $3 for 5, or .60 each – a good price for Fage.
64oz. Sunny Delight is on sale for $1.69. SavingStar has a .25 ecoupon that will knock this to $1.44…
The Jewel “Fresh Summertime Fun” in-store coupon book has a coupon inside for $2 off a $10 Homelife products purchase. My beautiful Aunt Bonnie spotted Homelife plastice utensils (forks, knives, spoons, or assorted) on sale for $1 this week at Jewel. If you need these for summertime picnics, entertaining, or just want to stock up, buy 10 packages. Then, with the coupon in the book, pay $8 for 10 – that’s .80 each, even cheaper than buying them at the dollar store.
Jewel’s running a deal on Knorr side dishes and rotisserie chicken! Buy any 10 Knorr rice or pasta sides for $1 each and get a Culinary Circle rotisserie chicken for $1.99! The only coupons available for the Knorr came out in the 5/1 SS Espanol. If you’re in an area that received this, there’s a .45 off any Knorr product inside!
If you went insert-crazy that week, your best deal would this: With ten coupons – pay %5.50 for 10 Knorr and get a rotisserie chicken for $1.99…
Reader Jenni4c1 found a .50-off-2 Knorr coupon in the 5/22 RP too if you didn’t get the higher-value one…

_______________________________________________
As long as this still has print limits..! Reader Avenger spotted a printable coupon for $2 off a $25 purchase at Jewel!
Jewel-Osco information:
Jewel-Osco has a Facebook page. If you have questions directly for corporate, you can ask them there.
Are you on the Jewel-Osco email list? Jewel has been making coupons available for many different products over the past few months, and they’re usually store coupons that you can stack manufacturer coupons with too.
Coupon books currently found at Jewel:
Fresh Summertime Fun – Coupons for charcoal, meats and other Jewel items
Smuckers Ice Cream – has ice cream topping coupons for $1.25 off and B3G4th Free
Fresh & Fun Celebration – Small book with coupons for $2 off any 1lb. or larger Stockman & Dakota Premium Angus Beef package; $2 off any 1 to 2lb. bag of Arctic Shores shrimp, and $2 off any Hormel Party Tray (all expire 7/15/11.)
Smart Easy Spring Cleaning – Coupons for SC Johnson cleaning products (Windex, Pledge, Scrubbing Bubbles.)
Jewel meat deals:
- There are currently no meats in the ad priced at $1.99/lb. or less.
Jewel produce deals:
- Tomatoes on the vine are .99/lb.
- Red or Golden Delicious apples are $1.29/lb.
- Vidalia sweet onions are $1.29/lb.
- Yellow squash, zucchini or eggplant are $1.49/lb.
- Mangos are .50 each, limit 12
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices — ditto for most produce. Seafood, by its nature, is more expensive per pound, but a good “buy” benchmark is $4 per pound or less.)
Let’s go to Dominick’s (View weekly ad)…
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, support for previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s is running a gift card promotion this week too. Spend $50 in gift cards and receive a $10 Catalina! A good option if you don’t wish to do the $100/$20 deal at Jewel…
The 6/1 issues of the Chicago Tribune and Daily Herald both had $10-off-$50 Dominick’s coupons in them…
There are some good ecoupons at Dominicks.com this week, especially for organics:
In Coupon Center:
– $1 off O Organics gallon of milk
– $1 off O Organics 64oz. fruit juice
– $2 off O Organics 8.5oz. maple syrup
– $1 off Open Nature Ice Cream 1.5qt.
– $1 off Lucerne Ice Cream half-gallons
– .50 off Open Nature natural sausages (we love these!)
– $2 off Beggin’ Strips dog treats. They’re $2.50 this week at Dominick’s, so that’s .50. (I know they’re cheaper at Jewel, but .50 for one more bag isn’t bad if your dog likes these!)
– .88 KC Masterpiece barbecue sauce, limit 2
Dominick’s is running a “Mix and Match” instant-savings sale. Buy 8 or more products featured in the ad, and receive an instant .50 off each item. The ad touts that over 3,000 items are included… with the server issues on the blog this week, I did not get to writing them -all- down..! Here’s a list of your best bets with this sale. Remember that the prices shown are AFTER the buy-8-or-more savings.
– Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks – $1.49. Use the .50-off-2 from 5/1 SS1, printable or printable and pay $1.24 each.
– Capri-Sun 10-packs – $1.49

– Dannon Light & Fit or Activia yogurt 4-packs – $1.49. The 6/5 SS has a $1-off-2 Activia. Light & Fit’s Facebook page has $1 printables, though you may prefer to use them at Meijer this week…
– Fisher Boy Fish Sticks and Fillets (12-24oz.) – $3.49. Use this .75 printable and pay $2.74!
– Folgers Coffee (8-11.5oz.) – $3.99. Use the .25 coupon from 5/22 RP and pay $3.74.
– Knorr Rice or Pasta Sides – .89. Use the .45 coupon from the 5/1 SS Espanol and pay .44! Or, use the .50-off-2 Knorr coupon in the 5/22 RP.
– Kraft Mac & Cheese – .59
– O Organics canned beans – .75
– Quaker Chewy Granola Bars – $1.99
– Refreshe 2-liters of pop – .49
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Dominick’s is running a “$2 off your shopping trip when you buy 4 Hallmark Cards” offer (through 6/21, limit 1 per transaction.) .99 cards are excluded, so your best bet here is to buy 4 $1.99 cards, which you’ll ultimately pay $5.96 for = $1.49 each (Through 6/21.)
If you haven’t yet signed up for the “Just For U“ electronic discounts that you can load to your Dominick’s Fresh Values card, you may want to. For registering your card, you’ll receive an ecoupon for a FREE 12-ct. Lucerne large eggs! You’ll also activate a set of electronic discounts that are tied to your card for the next 90 days. - Avocados are $1 each
- Ataulfo or tropical mangos are $1 each

June is Dairy Month, and you might have already guessed by some of the yogurt deals posted above that it’s a good month for deals on numerous dairy products. Here’s a super deal on yogurt and FREE milk!
Dannon DanActive, Activia, and Light & Fit are on sale for $1.88 each. Buy 4 and get a FREE gallon of Meijer Milk! Coupons, of course will make this deal even sweeter.

With two $1 printables and two Mealbox coupons, buy 4 Dannon Light & Fit. Post-coupons, you’ll pay $3.52 for 4 4-packs of yogurt AND a free gallon of milk! That knocks your 4-packs to .88 each, a good price even without the milk too.
The 6/5 SS insert has a $1-off-2 Activia if you prefer to do the deal with it.
Yoplait Trix Yogurt and Go-Gurt (6-8 packs) are a decent buy this week too. They’re on sale for $1.67 each. You’ll find .75-off-2 coupons in the 4/17 SS1, or use a printable (more here!) With a coupon, buy two and pay $2.59, or about $1.30 each.

Are you a Meijer Mperks member yet? Mperks is a different set of electronic Meijer coupons. Then, when you’re at the checkout, type your cellphone number into the keypad at the register, and your coupons come off automatically.

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the stores are newer, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.

This week (6/5,) the ProGlide are also double-dipping with the “Spend $30, get $10” RR promo at Walgreens. If you have other Gillette to buy, work the razor in and get BOTH sets of RRs!

Walgreens Infant Care – has a $2 coupon inside for Walgreens brand diapers, which often go on sale. All expire 12/2011.
And finally, over at CVS (View weekly ad)…
Still holding onto your 5/1 PG insert? While most of the coupons inside expired at the end of May, there’s a $1 coupon for Ivory bar soap multipacks or liquid soap in there that doesn’t expire until later this month! Good thing too, as the 3-packs of Ivory Bar Soap are on sale for .99 this week at CVS! With this coupon, your 3-pack of soap is FREE!
Excedrin Migraine, PM, or Extra Strength (8ct.) are on sale for .99. Buy one and get .99 back in Extra Care Bucks, making these FREE! This offer is limit 2 per card, so get two…
Crest Pro-Health Mouth Rinse (1-liter) is on sale for $4.50. Buy it and get $2.50 back in Register Rewards! Use a coupon to make this a much better buy… there’s a $2 coupon for the Pro Health in the new 6/5 PG. With coupon, pay $2.50 and get $2.50 back… making this FREE! This offer is limit 2.
Oral-B Pulsar electric toothbrushes are FREE too after coupon and ECBs! They’re on sale for $6. Use the $3 coupon from the 6/5 PG. Pay $3 and get $3 back, making the toothbrush FREE! This offer is also limit 2.
Want some free or nearly-free toothpaste? Colgate MaxFresh and MaxClean toothpastes are on sale for $2.79. Buy one and get $2 back in ECBs! Use a coupon to make it free or close to it.. the May and June issues of All You have $1 coupons. With these, pay $1.79 and get $2 back – free Colgate toothpaste and a moneymaker! Or, use the .75 coupon from the 6/5 SS. With this, pay $2.04 and get $2 back… four-cent toothpaste!
Cheaper Whitestrips deal… This week, CVS is giving $10 back in ECBS when you buy Crest 3D Whitestrips. The 10ct. package is a whopping $32.99, but with the $5 coupon from 6/5 PG, pay $27.99 and get $10 back… that drops them to $17.99, and we haven’t had a deal on these in a while, even a “semi-cheaper” deal…
CVS is again running a gas card promotion that will run for the next few weeks. Spend $30 on selected items in the ad and get a $10 gas card. You do NOT have to purchase all $30 in the same shopping trip, but you DO have to purchase $30 worth in this particular calendar week — it will not carry over to next week. Your CVS Extra Care Card will track the $30 for you.
Honestly, I’m not seeing anything crazy-good with this week’s sale items in this promotion again though.
CVS Tip: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
FREE Gain Dishwashing Liquid: The P&G $110 Everyday Savings coupon mailer contains a coupon for $1 off Gain Dishwashing Liquid. Walmart sells Gain for .97 (exp. 6/30/11)
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.” I have heard from one reader who used a $3 Register Reward on a $2.49 copy of All You magazine and DID receive change, in cash.
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
Will I blog Walmart in its entirety each week?
I will not be blogging entire writeups for Walmart each week. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.
However, if there IS an ad with noteworthy sales or I’m aware of great coupon matchups, you’ll find those here too.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Okay, the $5 John Frieda coupon specifically says it’s for “Full Repair treatment, styler or finisher”. Does that mean the shampoo and conditioner on sale for $5 at CVS are not included?

Yet another week of slim deals. I honestly think that the TLC “Extreme Couponing” show is ruining couponing for the rest of us. So often, by the time I read Jill’s blog and am able to get to the store to try and get some deals, the shelves are cleared. And not only has this phenomenon gotten worse since that stupid show premiered, but the deals that are out there to be had are less and less. It’s frustrating, to say the least!
This, of course, reflects in absolutely no way on Jill! I think Jill does a FANTASTIC job of finding the few gems that are still available to us.
Now, I’ll be off to Target as soon as my toddler finishes breakfast … but I suspect the John Frieda items will already be gone.

So I think I know the answer but I want to doublecheck before I go today —
1) If I have an item with register rewards at walgreens (say SOBE, bic, fusion pro-glide) that I want to purchase TWO of…can I do this in the same transaction and still get register rewards for both? Or do I need to do separate transactions?
2) Also for Walgreens — in the monthly store booklets…it says “manufacturer store coupon”. which one is it? can it stack with anything else?
thanks!!

Does anyone, like me, still watch it. I notice one thing in EVERY SINGLE episode. Everyone has in theire stockpile Yakisoba noodles (like Ramen). It has become a game between my husband & I to see who can spot it first in each shopper story. I mean one shopper bought about 8-10 CASES of this stuff. I thought it was hilarious. anyone catch onto this?

I noticed in the WalMart section of your post that you included an example of someone using a Walgreens Register Reward for a Walmart purchase. I think you were just using that as an example of how they really do give you cash back for overage, but just to make sure I understand the policy correctly. They do not accept $ off entire purchase, such as WAGS RRs, right? They only accept Catalinas that are dollar/cents off a specific item, so using the RR would not be an example of something we could legitimately do at this point?
Thanks for your help!

There’s a good Lamisil deal at CVS. In their ad, it only shows 1 type of Lamisil, but in the store, the ECB deal was tagged on all the varieties. So, it’s on sale for $9.99, used the $3.00 coupon from 5/22 SS, and get $5.00 ECB. I’ve never gotten Lamisil this cheap before ($1.99)!
MissyB1 says
I’ve been getting $4 off when you spend $20 at the coupon kiosk in the store every time I go to CVS and today I also got a CVS Q for $3 off cosmetic purchase of $10. If you’re looking for new summer lipstick/gloss, the Covergirl Natureluxe (spf 15 is good for summer!) are on sale 2/$12 and there’s a P&G 6/5 Q for $5 off 2. That brings it down to 2/$4 on the lipstick. With the other deals Jill listed for DOTW, you can easily spend $8 to be able to use that $4 off $20 CVS coupon. I flubbed up the John Freida deal b/c I bought an item that was $8 instead of $5 – read those labels carefully – but 2 Freida products for $3 (including the $3 ECB I got) isn’t too bad!
elgincouponlady says
I went to the Elgin Target to do the John Frieda deal (got the last 2 items at $5.99 and had to add one $8.99 item).
Here is how it went down: $20.97 in product – $18 in coupons (3-$5 mfg coupons and one $3/2 Target coupon) = $2.97 + $1.01 in tax = $3.98 Then I would get the $5 card back so it would be a money maker; however, since Target’s policy is to NOT give money back, and they include the $5 gift card on the the receipt, the register automatically adjusted down one of the Mfg. coupons to $2.97 so that my total paid was $6.01 – $5.00 Target gift card = $1.01 paid (just the sales tax). I still got the 3 hair care items for just the sales tax, but never the less I was disappointed.
Target has been really slow with deals for the past several weeks…hopefully they will come around again. The shelves are clear of the $5.99 John Freida Full Repair in Elgin and So. Elgin.
Thanks Jill for the deal :o)

Firstly, I would love to thank Jill for taking so much of her time to provide us with these deals. I have only been seriously couponing for a couple of months now, and it’s thanks to sites like hers that I have been able to really cut down on my grocery bill. Your hard work certainly does not go unnoticed or unappreciated:)
Ok, now on to the two great deals I took advantage of yesterday… Walgreens currently has Blue Diamond Almond 6 oz cans on sale for BOGO with the price being $3.59. There are printable Smartsource coupons for $0.50 off one. I used two of these coupons and got both cans of almonds for $2.59, which is about $1.30 a can! Woot:) Also, Walgreens has Chex Mix 5.5 oz bags on sale for $1.33 each. A few weeks ago there were $0.50 coupons off each bag on coupons.com, AND Walgreens has a coupon in its June coupon booklet for $0.99 of 3 bags! I bought 3 bags of Chex Mix, used 3 $0.50 coupons + the $0.99 store coupon and bought all three bags for just $1.50 total! I was super excited and wanted to share the wonderful deals with you all. Happy shopping!

Can anyone share their successful weekly shopping routine. I work full time so I don’t have all day Monday to shop, and I have been trying to hit as many sales as possible. My current routine is
Monday: Jewel
Tuesday: Meijer (if sale is good)
Wednesday: Walgreens
Sunday is ideal, but when this posts on Monday, my weekend is over. Can anyone else share a routine that works for you. Do you hit all the stores in Jill’s list, or just some of them? Thanks.

I heard that Nivea body lotion is on sale at Target for $3.04, if you use the $1/1 store coupon from Target.com and the $2/1 from the Red Plum insert in the 6/5 ad you will get two body washes for just $.08 plus tax. That’s a great price if it is $3.04 a bottle!

Since couponing I only go to Aldi for their frozen bags of oriental veggies and whatever else floats my boat while I am there, but yesterday they had 1 lb. strawberry packs for 99 cents. The veggies, FYI, are 2.5 lbs. for always under $4.
Like I said, I usually coupon but I had to mention the strawberries.

I don’t know if I saw this on this blog, but thanks to whoever posted that there was a 10.00 off coupon on MPerks for athletic shoes. After the buy $40 save $10 in addition to that, I got a great pair of Asics running shoes for only 24.99.
Also, while I was trying them on, I noticed a clearance rack for sheet sets and throw pillows. Sheet sets were not as low as Jill got awhile back, but the throw pillows were 90% off at 2.00 a piece AND match my porch furniture very nicely!
I got stocked up on dog food and also found Pure protein powder on sale b2g1f that I paired up with a $3 coupon from my All You mag.
So Happy!!
Thank You Jill for getting me started!

I can’t remember what the really good trash bag price was (I did that deal at Dom’s like forever ago and haven’t really needed them since then. haha) but I did notice that the 5/1PG has a $.75 off coupon. And I am definitely in need of them now. The wordage is:
“Save $.75 on any Glad trash bag product, including Glad OdorShield bags with Febreze Freshness Available in three fresh scents…”
I don’t see why this coupon won’t work, making the trash bags $4.74 each.
Also has anyone noticed that lately COUPONTOM’s coupon values often don’t match our Trib coupons? (looking for a $1 and finding a $.75 or $.50 is sad :( ) What gives? haha.

I just wanted to share that the Smart Balance milk is on sale at Meijer through TODAY for $2.59. There was a coupon in the paper on Sunday for $1.50 off one. I looked on line at Meijer and found a Meijer coupon in the “mealbox” for $1.00 off 2. If you have multiple inserts from the Sunday paper this can add up to a great deal.
If you have 2 coupons from the Sunday paper and 1 of the “mealbox” coupons, you can get two half gallons of milk for $1.18, or $0.59 a each! CHEAP and HEALTY!
This deal ends TODAY, Wed the 8th, however – the Meijer in Bloomingdale is out of the milk and offering rain checks (great way to stil be able to get the sale price when they restock)

I don’t shop CVS too often as there are none located near me. But I do drive by one two or three times a month. I was wondering if you can do a specific ECBS transaction more than once. For instance, if I was driving TO my destination could I buy the Crest 3D Whitestrips with a coupon and receive an ECBS and then repeat the entire thing on the trip back FROM my destination and also receive another ECBS? In otherwords, does the register limit the number of times a specific ECBS is issued to a specific card number? I am assuming that I cannot use my first ECBS on the second transaction or I would not receive another ECBS; like Walgreens. Thanks for your help.

I went to Jewel, and the Chicago Tribune was selling a $1 wk for 13 week subscription. I went for it, and received, just for signing up, a $10 Jewel Osco gift card, a very nice Chicago Blackhawks hat, and a coffee mug. I used the GC, and stocked up on the great Ronzoni Pasta deal. Pretty cool deal for this newbie!
