Hello, Super-Couponers…
Another great week of deals is here! A big welcome to the new readers of my blog this week (and to my longtime readers as well…)
Sometimes my blog readers surprise me with little gifts to say thanks for teaching them how to save… (truly, I expect nothing at all from you guys — I love my “coupon queen” job!) But I had to share a photo of this great kitchen apron one of my readers gave me at one of my recent classes. Thank you!
This week’s newspaper contained THREE inserts: SmartSource, RedPlum and Procter and Gamble — and those of you with babies or friends/family in the military will want that P&G for the $2 Pampers Baby Wipes coupon alone! More on that in a moment…
Ready for your best Deals of the Week? You may enjoy FREE or moneymaker Breakstone’s Sour Cream, bargain organic milk, .25 organic whole wheat pasta, FREE Coffee-Mate creamer, FREE Pampers baby wipes… so let’s get started!
(Print: , Email:, or, jump directly to comments on this week’s deals…)
If you’re new to my blog, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon lingo and abbreviations.
It’s a good idea to save the grocery and drugstore flyers each week to have on hand & refer to too as you go through the deals! And, if you’re new to couponing in general, check out my Super-Couponing® website for a list of coupon classes (most are FREE!) and easy instructions on how to start using coupons effectively!
A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on Illinois stores, the Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu, Safeway, or Kroger-owned store, you may find similar sales to our Jewel, Dominick’s, and Hilander deals. Welcome, and enjoy!

Are you having fun with the “Buy 5, Save $5” Catalina currently running at Jewel? It’s a fabulous sale, and it got even more fun this week, as Breakstone Sour Cream is on sale for .99 a tub. Buy 5, save $5 – FREE sour cream! Use coupons to make this a moneymaker — there are $1-off-2 coupons in the “Add Dairy to Your Summer Adventure” coupon book found at Dominick’s, and there’s a .55 off printable here.
Here’s a quick and easy deal on Smart Balance dairy products. Smart Balance spreads are part of the “Buy 5, Save $5” dairy Catalina too. When you buy one ($2.99 at most stores,) a Catalina for a FREE carton of Smart Balance milk is also printing at the register! I have no info on how long this bonus milk Catalina will print, but if you work Smart Balance into your “Buy 5” deal, you may end up with free milk too!
Deals continuing from previous weeks:

If you’re a UPC list person, you can find a full listing of included products here. Buying any 5 products will generate a $5 Catalina.
As noted above, 5 Breakstones at .99 each is a GREAT way to do this deal. Here’s another… if you’ve got the multiple inserts for it! Dole Sensations Juices are $2.49 each. Buy 5 and use five $1 coupons from the 5/2 SS Espanol. With 5 coupons, pay $7.45 and get a $5 Catalina back! $2.45 for 5 Dole juices is .49 a carton!
Horizon Organic Milk‘s a great deal here too. Buying 5 will knock them to $2.49 a gallon – with the .50 coupons from the Dominick’s book, you’re looking at $1.99 a carton – EXCELLENT!
Jewel’s house brand of diapers, Baby Basics, are a good buy with coupons! Jumbo packs are $7.99 each at most stores. Use these $4 printables here and here and cut that price in half… to $3.99 a jumbo pack of diapers! Jewel also has the value pack (cardboard case) of diapers priced around $16.99 – with coupon, it’s $12.99.
Jewel meat deals:
- Perdue chicken drumsticks or thighs are $1.79/lb.
- Fresh pork sirloin blade chops are $1.99/lb.
- Fresh split chicken breasts are $1.99/lb.
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry, or seafood) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices.)
Jewel produce deals:
- Bulk baking potatoes are .48/lb.
- Red seedless grapes are .98/lb.
- Vidalia onions are .98/lb.
- Zucchini or yellow squash are $1.38/lb.
- Peaches and nectarines are $1.79/lb.
- Fresh asparagus is $1.98/lb.
- Tomatoes on the vine are $1.99/lb.
Note to my Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s currently accepts expired coupons up to one year past the expiration date, so my coupon matchups for Dominick’s deals will include expired coupons. If an expired coupon matchup is provided, it will be noted with (exp) after the date. Also, in Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals.
Kicking things off, wouldn’t you like some .25 organic pasta? Of course you would. O Organics whole wheat pasta is on sale for $1.25 a box. Many Dominick’s stores have coupons out for $1 off any O Organics product (look for coupons on a single-sheet brochure for O Organics, usually near the pharmacy.) With coupon, your pasta is .25! Note that these coupons are limited to one per transaction.
Dominick’s is running a “Buy 8, save $4” instant-savings deal. Not much is jumping out at me as spectacular, though the Kraft Mac and Cheese is decent if you need it. Buy 8 at .99 and save $4, knocking these to .49 each…
As usual, there are some Dominick’s Super Coupons* in this week’s ads too. Best bets?
- Coffee-Mate 32-oz. creamers are $1.99 each with Super Coupon, limit 3. Stack this with the $1 coupon from the “Add Dairy to Your Summer Adventure” coupon book for .99 creamers in the BIG bottles…
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
$25/$10 Picnic Time Catalina Purchase $25 worth of participating picnic products and get a $10 Catalina! (Through 6/10) Note that the ad and spreadsheet specify that this deal is AFTER all coupons (store, manufacturer, and ecoupon.) This is not true – only store coupons affect the Catalina, meaning the post-store-coupon price is what you’ll use to count to $25. However, if you’re not comfortable doing this deal because of this stipulation, just be aware that if for any reason your Catalina doesn’t print, the store isn’t likely to make it right for you if you use coupons. But, I can verify it’s working fine AND rolling – you can use the $10 Cat you got to buy more paper products. This is a NICE deal especially for those of you looking to stock up on trash bags and charcoal – two items that are at seasonal cycle lows right now! Here is your list of products and matchups: Brawny Big Roll print paper towels Clorox Wipes (fresh and lemon scent) Dixie Heavy Duty 9″ and 10″ paper plates Dixie Grilling plates Dixie napkins rainbow pack Dixie paper plates Dixie Ultra bowls Dixie Ultra strong plates Dixie Ultra plates value pack Glad zipper storage and freezer bags Gladware containers Glad 13-gallon white kitchen trash bags Glad 30-gallon black trash bags Hidden Valley Ranch salad dressings Kingsford Charcoal Briquettes (original or mesquite) Kingsford Match Light Charcoal Briquettes (original or mesquite) Vanity Fair All Occasion napkins Vanity Fair Insular Cups with lids Vanity Fair Everyday bowls Vanity Fair Dinner plates |
If you’re a UPC list person, you can find a full listing of included products here (Thanks to SlickDeals!)
Here’s a fun deal on Ziploc containers! They’re on sale for $1.99 each when you buy 4. You’ll get two $2 Catalinas back when you buy 4 too — that knocks them down to $1 each! Use coupons to make this even better – there are $1.50-off-2 coupons in 5/16 SS, 3/21 SS (exp), 2/21 SS1 (exp), 1/10 SS (exp), 11/15/09 SS (exp). With 2 coupons, pay $4.96 and get $4 back! That’s less than a dollar for FOUR! This one’s scheduled to run through 6/18.
Snuggle fabric softener is on sale for $3.99 each when you buy 2 or more at a time (through June 30 – LONG sale!) Buy two and use two of the $3 Snuggle coupons from 3/28 RP or 10/4/09 RP (exp) and pay just .99!
If you go to Dominick’s, look for displays with coupon booklets in them:
O Organics – brochure card with “$1 off any O Organics Item” coupons in the store, expiring 12/31/10! These are GREAT coupons for products like organic milk and produce
Add Dairy to your Summer Adventure – $26 worth of manufacturer AND store coupons for many dairy products, expiring 7/14-7/24/10
Dominick’s meat deals:
- Red seedless grapes are .99/lb.
- Broccoli crowns or cauliflower are .99/lb
- Hothouse tomatoes are $1.77/lb
Dominick’s produce deals:
- Fresh whole chickens are .99/lb.
- Fresh Perdue drumsticks or thighs are $1.49/lb.
- Pork loin chops are $1.99/lb.
- Rancher’s Reserve boneless chuck steak is $1.99/lb.
- Boneless pork shoulder country style ribs are $1.99/lb.
- 80% lean tavern burger patties are $1.99/lb.
- 80% lean ground beef is $1.99/lb.
AND… if you have the 2010 Entertainment Book, don’t forget that there are four $5 off $50 coupons inside the front cover too. These have staggering dates (two expired in the first quarters of 2010) and the next $5-off-$50 expires 7/31.
If you haven’t ordered the Entertainment Book for this year, it’s also a great buy — Entertainment just reduced these to $15 each with FREE shipping! They do quickly pay for themselves if you like local coupons for restaurants, attractions, and even travel. The Chicago book contains over $18,000 worth of coupons (yes, you read that right!) Worth checking out! Walgreens is still selling these for $25 each, so $15 is a great price.
*A note on Dominick’s Super Coupons:
What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases after your Club Card discount is applied. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (after Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.
Heading over to Meijer, here are your best deals of the week for Meijer stores in in Algonquin, Aurora, Bloomingdale, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Oswego, Plainfield, Rolling Meadows, and St. Charles:
16oz. Coffee-Mate is on sale for .99. If you have the $1 coupons from the “Add Dairy to Your Summer Adventure” coupon book found at Dominick’s, they’re FREE! There are also .75 off – printables on Coffee-Mate’s site that will make these just .24. (Yes, the deal is now working! :) And, 5/2 SS has a .50 coupon too.
Aunt Millie’s bread, hot dog or hamburger buns are on sale for .99. Use a .55 off coupon for Aunt Millie’s in 5/16 RP and 4/18 RP to cut this by more than half!
Meijer meat deals:
- Chicken drumsticks or thighs are .89/lb.
- Center-cut half boneless pork loin is $1.89/lb.
- Fresh pork spare ribs are $1.99/lb.
Meijer produce deals:
- Vidalia onions are .77/lb.
- California peaches or apricots are .99/lb.
- Greenhouse tomatoes are .99/lb.
- 1 lb. containers of strawberries are $1.50, and 1 lb. containers of organic strawberries are $2
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES Meijer location, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the store is new, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.
For my Rockford-area shoppers (and Kroger shoppers too!) here are your Hilander sales for the current week…
It’s another really light week sale-wise at Hilander. Not much super-noteworthy in this week’s ad unfortunately, but Kroger dozen eggs are .88 each – no coupon needed!
Deals continuing from last week:
McCormick GrillMates seasoning mixes are on sale AGAIN! This time, they’re on sale for $1.25 each. Use the $1 coupon from 4/25 RP, or the .50 coupon from 4/18 RP, which will double to $1, and you’ll pay just a quarter!
Hilander meat deals:
- Pork spareribs are $1.47/lb.
- Chicken wings or boneless, skinless thighs are $1.79/lb.
- Kroger spiral sliced ham is $1.99/lb.
Hilander produce deals:
- Vidalia onions, zucchini and yellow squash, green beans and red potatoes are all .88/lb.
- 1lb. containers of strawberries are $1.48/lb.
- 5 lb. bags of Idaho potatoes are $1.99
- Whole seedless watermelons are $3.88
Remember too that Hilander doubles coupons up to .55 face value every day! You are only allowed to double two of the SAME coupon per day though — additional coupons will ring at face value. (Split your trips if you’re stocking up!)
Readers outside Illinois will want to check with their local Kroger or Kroger-affiliated stores to determine how they handle coupon doubling.
Ready for some travel-sized freebies? Any time a coupon says it’s good on ANY size of a product, use it on the travel size. With many travel sizes under $1, a $1 coupon makes them FREE! (Yes, it is Target’s policy to accept these and adjust down to .97 or whatever the exact price is.) So, buy travel sizes of the following…
Tresemme hair spray – .97. Use printable.
Vaseline Aloe Fresh Lotion – .97. Use $1 printable.
Shout stain wipes – .97. Use printable
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
SOME editions of the 5/16 RP contained a Target store coupon for $1 off any Bounty paper towels. Single rolls of Bounty Basic sell for .99 at most Targets! Get a roll free!

Drugstore Deals

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

At the top of the last page in the Red Plum insert are two free summer drink coupons from Taco Bell. (Sorry if I missed this mentioned elsewhere.)

You’re right about nothing really jumping at you and usually Dominicks’ mix-n-matches don’t work for me. But recently I sorted through expired coupons (blinkies and ones I cut out of booklets from last year) I recalled some that looked like good matchups and many were $2 off but with different combos like $2 off when you buy Chips Ahoy and Capri Suns and some free when you bought another product (free salsa when you buy Tostito chips). Sometimes it pays to hord old ones. Many of the items with this sale were good for stocking my sitter with items for the kids this summer so it did make it worth my while since I was going to do this for her anyway. What made it even better I was able to use multiple OYNO Cats that I received from doing a couple of Zip Loc container purchases. I’m still jonesing for a Jewel multi-product $30/$15 Cat (other than Conagra).

8 Crystal Lights $1.49 each after discount
4 Glad Garbage bags (suppose to be $6.49 each but I guess they r part of the buy 8 save $4???? and I guess after you buy 8 qualifying products $0.50 comes off each qualifying item? only “Qualifying” thing I bought was the crystal light, I did self check out and $0.50 discount came off after each garbage bag I bought)
8 ziploc containers $1.99 wyb 4 or more
Total= $51.88
4-$2/2 crystal light (expired coupons from booklet found in Dominicks)
4-$1.50/2 ziploc
2-$1/2 glad
rolled $10 dixie cat and 1-$2 ziploc cat got back the $10 Dixie cat and 4 ziploc cats ( so $0.50 discount on glad does not affect Dixie cat!!)
Paid $23.80 plus tax (but after factoring in new cats earned=$17.80)
found the add dairy booklets too!! also finished my order and u-scan locked up…had to go to new register and do it all over again and this time cashier studied my coupons and enetered them all herself…tried to dispute a few, like the expired $1/2 glad…told me that is why I broke u-scan…the coupon was for the storage bags not garbage, had to read the ANY GLAD part and we were good to go.

Called a nearby Dominick’s today to get a couple of these. She said she would hold them for me. Went to pick them up and when she went back to get them there were none left. Called another Dominick’s they said they would hold one for me. Went to pick it up and they are not even putting them out because there are people out there taking the supply. Please, I wish these people would only take a couple and then leave some for others….if there are more on another trip then pick up a couple more then or go to another store, but do not wipe out an entire supply at one store:( I ran into this with eggo blinkies too:( We are in this couponing together and would all like to save.

This week Walgreens is doing $10 RR for every $25 spent on Gillette/Old Spice products. Is the $25 before or after coupons? I noticed quite a few coupons in the 6/6 PG and 5/16 RP and if the $25 is before coupons I wanted to figure out a way to work the deal. Thanks!

Went to Jewel, got my 5 dairy items (again :)) but this time I had 2 deans dips included with my order and along with my $5 cat….I also got a $1 cat compliments of Deans Dips OYNO. Is there a Deans promo out there too?

Ok….so this is what I did;
4 land o lakes butter @ $1.99 = $7.96
1 Smart Balance @ $2.99. = $10.95
used 2-.75cents off Q from 4-11ss
used 2-.50 cents off from Dom’s dairy books
total was $8.45 + .25 cents tax = $8.70
now here comes the weird part.
I handed her a $10.00 cat from previous promo because it expires today. (not thinking that was only $8.70)
I got back…..$1.30 from the $10.00 cat, $5.00 for the Dairy promo and Q for free smart balance milk!!!!(up to $3.99) well OK! I’ll take it!

I can’t believe that the Jewel in South Elgin would not take my $1.00 off weber coupons. I had one from the tear pad and one from the paper. I was buying 2 of the packets and 2 of the small shaker bottles. After the B1G1F and the coupons the packets would be FREE and the shaker bottles would be $1.00ea. I was in the self check out and the cashier told me that I cannot use thes coupons with a free item. I told her that they have in the past and she said “there not supposed to”. I was also buying the cats pride litter B1G1F and I had 2 $1.00 coupons. She took a $1.00 coupon for a free cats pride but not the seasonings. So I told her to take all of weber Seasoning off and to give me the coupons back. I told her that I would come back later. I should have told her to keep my entire order. I also bought the pampers wipes they we $2.99-$1.25 (instant avenue discount)-$2.00= FREE + an additional $.24.

Check with your local store regarding ‘double coupon’ advertised promotions where customers will receive double the coupon face value off the regular or club card price up to the advertised limit. Not all locations offer double coupon promotions. Limitations and restrictions for double coupon promotions may change at any time. Changes will be posted in store only.
Coupon Stacking: (Hawaii stores only)

I guess if this is true and the no expireds rule will be enforced, I can dump my Dom’s card and clear out a big stockpile of coupons.
The aisles will be so empty that we could bowl down them or make giant slip and slides w/out fear of hitting anyone.
I need an I LOVE Jewel bumper sticker.

I was at Jewel today and there was a tag for $2 back when you buy 3 promise spreads. I used a previous cat for 1.50 off 3 promise and purchased 2 sour creams with it. Ended up getting the $5 Dairy cat and $2 promise cat back. Tags say it goes thru 6/13.

I am still fairly new to the couponing world (a few months), but I am already addicted. I am wondering if there is anywhere that I can go to get a list of all the coupons in the Sunday inserts with the value and expiration date (much like the list in the All You magazine)? I would really like to have something like this to make it easier to match my sales on my own, without having to rely on others. Just wondering

I use the online coupon indexes for expired and current coupons.

Just a few things I noted whilst shopping today.
Jewel
1. GIFT CARD DEAL: Lisa V commented earlier that she read on Couponers Wanted that if you buy a $100 Jewel Stockman & Dakota gift card (with the steak on front for father’s day, but a general Jewel card), you get a $10 Catalina OYNO. She tried it and it worked. I was inspired — my store didn’t have the steak ones so I tried with the “apple”(lime green) one and still got the $10 Catalina. (Still have plenty of gift card left from the tax rebate deal, but figured for a 10% return, why not.)
2. Used the $2.00 off chicken coupon on the Perdue drumsticks that are $.79/lb — got 3 small packs for a little over $2.00. Think these are destined for the grill with some free BBQ sauce…
3. Picked up a couple more John Morrell ham cuts. Again, these are BOGO at $2.99 and look for a blinkie machine in front with $1.00/1, making them 2/$.99 when you use two coupons. There were also $.55/1 peelies on a lot of the packages. These are great for omelets, salads, pizza…
4. Look by the Lay’s potato chips for a tearpad for $3.00 off produce wyb 2 Lay’s chips. The chips are 2/$5.00 this week. This is a manufacturer coupon but it expires 6/23.
I did the Jewel boneless/skinless chicken breast that I found for $1.49#…just over 3 lbs…$2.00 off! Also did the Stockman/Dakota/Jewel gift card, got $10.00Q off next order!
