Hello, Super-Couponers! I thought last week’s weather was gorgeous, but that Midwest sun continues to poke its head out of the clouds far earlier than we’re used to seeing it this time of year… to the tune of 83-degree weather in Chicago in March? Instead of spending another weekend summer-in-March day indoors, I spent most of my Saturday writing up deals so that you can shop sooner…. or simply spend the rest of this gorgeous weekend outdoors too, as I plan to! (My kids asked if we could get their plastic pool out to splash in… and why not?)

A note to my non-Midwest readers: While my weekly deals focus on Illinois stores, the Kroger, Target, Walgreens and CVS deals apply nationally. And, if you’re shopping at a SuperValu or Safeway store you may find similar sales to our Jewel-Osco and Dominick’s deals. Welcome, and enjoy!

and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.
“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspaper to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

Starting at Jewel-Osco… View weekly ad | Load Jewel Avenu ecoupons | Load SavingStar ecoupons
IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations are in the process of updating their cash registers to a new system. If your store has updated to the new registers, and you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed, and the Sept. 2011 coupon policy is still correct for all stores. Watch your registers.
SavingStar has some new Jewel-Osco-specific ecoupons this week! Click to load these to your Preferred Card:
– .50 off any Wild Harvest item
– .50 off any Essential Everyday item
– $1 off 3 Culinary Circle items
Deal ideas for these this week?
Wild Harvest has a lot of fresh produce items (carrots, salad greens, cucumbers) that you could take an additional .50 off of with the Wild Harvest ecoupon. Or, go for other organics that are more difficult to coupon. Wild Harvest Organic Maple Syrup (12oz.) is $7.49 this week – would be $6.99 after the ecoupon.
Essential Everyday Frozen Breakfast Sandwiches (10.2oz., ad shows wheat English muffin and croissants with sausage, egg and cheese) are on sale for $2. After the .50 EE ecoupon, you’re at $1.50!
And lastly, my favorite deal idea… Culinary Circle Pizzas (12-36oz.) are $4 each. Buy three ($12.) After the $1 off 3 Culinary Circle ecoupon, you’re at $11 for three, or about $3.67 each! Who doesn’t love these pizzas, especially at this price?
If you’re doing the Culinary Circle Pizza deal above, reader Outlander shared a great tip for getting even more of these at a good price. Head over to Target’s site and print the coupon for $1-off-2 Archer Farms Pizzas.
Jewel’s coupon policy allows a competitor’s coupon for a house-branded product to be used on a similar house-branded Jewel product. So, buy two Culinary Circle pizzas ($8) and use the $1-off-2 coupon. You’ll pay $7 for two, or $3.50 each!
You can download a copy of Jewel-Osco’s coupon policy if you’d like to read this part of the policy for yourself.
Purex laundry detergent‘s a decent price this week too. 72-ounce bottles and 26-count packs are on sale for $2.99. For liquid, use the .50 coupon from 3/11 RP. You’ll pay $2.49! For the packs, use the $1 coupon also from the 3/11 RP. You’ll pay $1.99!
There’s a Snack Mania promotion running on various crackers. Buy any 5 of the following and save $5 — this makes the price $1.99 per box before coupons. Here are your products and matchups:
Keebler Wheatables, Toasteds, All-Bran, Club, or Town House Crackers (7-16oz.) – $1.99
– $1 off 2 – 1/29 RP
– $1 off 2 Town House – printable
– $1 off deli when you buy Club Crackers – printable
Kellogg’s Special K Crackers (4-8oz.) – $1.99
– Spend $20, Get $5 – SavingStar ecoupon
Sunshine Cheez-It Crackers (9.75-13.7oz.) – $1.99
– $1 off 2 – 1/29 RP
Keebler and Sunshine will be $1.49 per box after coupons. To do an all-Special-K deal, this SHOULD work before instant savings, as the instant is being applied by the store after you buy in quantities of 5. I’m thinking you could buy 7 for $20.93. Get $5 instant savings from the store for buying 5 (now $15.93.) Get another $5 back from SavingStar, and you’re at $10.93 for 7 boxes, or $1.56 each.
Coffee deals! Chock Full O’Nuts and Hills Bros. Coffee (27.8-33.9oz.) are both on sale for $6.99 each. For Chock Full O’Nuts, load the .75 SavingStar ecoupon and pay $6.24 after the discount. For Hills Bros., use this $1 printable and pay $5.99!
Jewel’s running a sale on its Equaline house-brand of products. Buy $20 worth of participating Equaline items and get $5 in instant-savings! Prices are in the Sunday Jewel ad. What looks best to me… the Equaline Vitamins are all on sale B1G1F. Only the bottles you PAY for will count, but buying $20 worth and paying $15 will in theory give you $40 worth of vitamins, depending how close to $20 you can come when you’re putting your deal together.
These are a little cheaper (.88) at Dominick’s this week, but Diet Pepsi 2-liters are on sale for $1 at Jewel. Use the .55 coupon from 3/18 SS and pay .45!

“No Coupon Needed” deals:
96oz. Jewel Orange Juice is $4.49
Quilted Northern Double Roll bath tissue (6ct.) is $2.99 – that’s about .50 per double roll, a fair price if you need it.
Nasoya Pasta Zero Shirataki Spaghetti Noodles (7.7-9oz.) are $2. These are those 4-carb, 20-calorie noodles made from the root of the Konjac plant. Basically, they have nearly no nutritional value but are very popular with dieters because they… go right through you undigested. The are also supposed to smell horrible until you rinse and cook them. I am both fascinated by and a little scared of these :) Learn more here…
Children’s Disney Books are $1. Hello, Easter basket stuffers!
V05 Shampoo and Conditioner (15oz.) are .79 each
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Mrs. T’s Pierogies (12-16.9oz.) are on sale for $2. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 coupons from the 1/29 RP or March All You. You’ll pay $3 for two, or $1.50 each!

Taste of Home FREE Cookbook, 5-cup Rice Cooker and 12-quart Tamale Steamer P&G Promotion
Jewel is running an “A Taste Of Home” mail-in promotion on P&G products. Buy $25 worth of P&G products in one transaction and receive a 2-piece cookware set and one cookbook of your choice via mail (view ad here.)
The cookware is a 12-quart tamale steamer, a 5-cup rice cooker, and one of the following cookbooks: “Fresh Mexico,” “Latin Grilling,” or “Cocina Cubana.” $25 worth of goods must be purchased in the same transaction, and you must submit a receipt from the same store you found the forms in (must be from Jewel – cannot use a Dominick’s receipt, etc.)
The offer runs through 4/30/12. Look for the forms for this rebate in Spanish/Latino Jewel locations.
The form for this offer is online too on another store’s website. Several readers called the number on the form and were told that printable versions would be accepted.
UPDATE! On 2/11, I received my A Taste of Home package. It contained the rice cooker, the “Latin Grilling” cookbook I chose, and a note stating that due to overwhelming demand, the tamale steamer will not be available until June 2012, so it will ship separately.

Let’s go to Dominick’s… View weekly ad | Load Dominick’s Just For U ecoupons
Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Also, in Chicago, support for previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s is also offering Deal Match, where you can load price-matching offers from Jewel and Target to your Fresh Values Card. Load these offers at www.Dominicks.com.
Dominick’s Super Coupons:
These are store coupons found in the weekly Dominick’s flyer, which (in the case of the name-brand products) means they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons for even bigger savings. You can also load some of these Super Coupons to your Fresh Values card via Dominicks.com and not have to clip them. Best bets this week?

They’re attached to your cellphone number, but aside from one text message to activate your account, you do not need to use text messaging to continually use them. Once you register with Meijer Mperks, you log into the Mperks website and click the electronic coupons you’d like to load to your account. Then, when you’re at the checkout, type your cellphone number into the keypad at the register, and your coupons come off automatically.

Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. most of Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes.
AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.

Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad | Load “Schnupons” ecoupons
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. I have had some readers from DeKalb write and ask if these deals will also apply to their store. In looking at both ads, SOME of the deals are the same, but Rockford at times has a Hilander-specific wraparound that isn’t a part of the DeKalb Schnucks ad. Remember too that the DeKalb store does not double coupons.
The current ad is good through TUESDAY, March 20th.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

I loaded the $1.57 JFU price on my card. It says limit three with unlimited uses…so buy three per transaction and repeat. I did three back to back transactions and I got the $1.57 price every time!! Also when I loaded the price on my card i had the deals send to me by email (instead if wasting paper to print) so if there was a problem I would open the email at the store with my smart phone.

I just went to the Walgreens in Glen Ellyn this morning and the toothbrush deal did not work. The Walgreens in ad coupon is for the Reach Prevent Toothbrush, which is a Crystal Clean variety. You can see the toothbrush picture on the coupon and it says Crystal Clean on it in tiny print. I tried all 3 varieties of Reach toothbrushes that come in 1 packs and it was the only one that matched with the Walgreens coupon. The manufacturer’s coupons (newspaper and printable) state that they can’t be used on the Crystal Clean variety. Maybe it was what my store had in stock and sells, but just a heads up.

Ladies, I’d appreciate any help you can provide. I’m in DESPERATE need of dishwasher detergent but haven’t hit a good deal in a while. Keep hoping one will show up but I don’t see one again this week. Hate the thought of paying full price….I usually use Finish tabs (although my glasses having been getting very cloudy using those lately) Any suggestions on where I can get some detergent at a reasonable price, like, right now? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

This is for the Walgreen’s Reach mfr product coupons – Limit One Coupon per Person, No more than 4 coupons in the same transaction?? So basically, I’d have to bring three other people to the store with me to use four coupons? Kind of silly, don’t you think? This is the first time I’ve found this weird limit.
