and the drugstore/general merchandise store deals run through Saturday.
“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations are in the process of updating their cash registers to a new system. If your store has updated to the new registers, and you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed, and the Sept. 2011 coupon policy is still correct for all stores. Watch your registers.
Carefree Pantiliners (20-22ct.) are on sale for $1. Use the $1 coupon from 3/18 SS and they’re FREE! Print a .50 printable and pick up more for .50…
DiLusso Ham, Salami, Turkey or Chicken Breast at the deli is on sale for $2.99 per half-pound. When you buy a half-pound, you’ll also get a free reusable bag! (It’s NICE too – it’s a big one that reminds me of the free bags Earthbound Farms sometimes offers on their website.) Use the $1 coupon from the 1/29 SS (expires 3/25!) or a printable. (You will need to enter an Illinois zip code to print.) With coupon, you’ll pay $1.99 for the half-pound of meat and get a free bag too!
My Jewel (Huntley) also had coupons at the counter for .55 off a half-pound of DiLusso deli chicken.
Here’s a deal on Yoplait Yogurt single cups! The 4-6oz. cups are on sale 10 for $6. Buy 10 and get $1 off in instant-savings!
This double-dips with a national Catalina running on Yoplait cups too — buy 20 and get a $2 Catalina! (Please note that several readers have written reporting that the lactose-free is NOT generating this $2 Catalina though.) So, let’s put a deal together…
The 3/11 SS has a .40-off-6 coupon, or use a .50-off-8 printable.
Buy 20 cups ($12.) Get $2 in instant-savings (now $10.) With three .40-off-6 coupons, pay $8.80. Receive $2 back in Catalinas, making these $6.80 for 20, or .34 per cup!
With two .50-off-8 printables, it works out to $7 for 20, or .35 per cup… still a deal!
UPDATE: CATALINA MAY NO LONGER BE PRINTING. I’ve heard from a few readers that the Catalina is not printing, and I don’t have an end date for this alert…
Birds Eye Steamfresh frozen vegetables (10-16oz.) are on sale for $1. Buy three and use the $1-off-3 coupon from 3/4 RP or a printable (must click red scissors link on right side of navigation bar and register to print.). With coupon, you’ll pay $2 for 3 bags, or about .67 each! Great price for these!
Palermo’s Primo Thin Crust Pizzas (14.5-19.1oz.) are on sale for $7.99, Buy One Get One Free. The new 3/25 SS has a $1 coupon. With two coupons, pay $5.99 for two, or about $3 each!
Or, use this $1-off-2 printable and pay $6.99 for two, or about $3.50 each.
There are a bunch of coupons in this week’s Jewel ad for FREE eggs when you buy various items. From a financial standpoint, the best/cheapest way to get the eggs this week is with the store coupon for Chi-Chi’s Salsa. 16oz.jars and 12-16oz. Snackers cups are on sale for $2 each. Buy two for $4 and get a FREE dozen eggs with store coupon. The 2/12 SS has a coupon for .50 off Chi-Chis salsa.
With one manufacturer coupon, pay $3.50 for 2 jars of salsa and a dozen eggs. With two manufacturer coupons, pay $3 for everything (which works out to $1 each.)
Or, if you’re on Facebook, head over and print a $1-off-2 printable for the same deal…
Athenos Crumbled Feta cheese (3.5-4oz.) is on sale for $2.99. Use this .75 Facebook printable and pay $2.24.

Carlita Deal: 16oz. cans of Carlita Refried Beans are on sale for .69; 16oz. jars of Carlita White Corn and Black Bean Salsa are $2; and 15oz. jars of Carlita Salsa Con Queso are $2.50. With the 50% off ecoupon, these prices will all be cut in half if you buy two (.35, $1, $1.25.) The refried beans are the best bet if you’re looking for your lowest out-of-pocket.
WholeCare Deal: 3.5lb. bags of WholeCare Cat Food and 4.4lb. bags of WholeCare Dog Food are both $4.59. After ecoupon, they’re $2.59.
Equaline Deal: Mr. Cataldo and I had fun perusing the aisles for the cheapest Equaline items! (And thanks to him, I believe this is the first deal on enemas I’ve ever blogged…)

– 18ct. Equaline Tampons are $2.49 – $1.49 after ecoupon
– Equaline Twin Pack Enema Kits are $2 – $1 after ecoupon
– 10ct. Equaline Butterfly Closures are $1.79 – .79 after ecoupon

Essential Everyday Deals:

– EE Chewy Granola Bars (10ct.) are $2 – $1.50 after ecoupon
– EE Toaster Pastries (8ct.) are $1.89 – $1.39 after ecoupon
Wild Harvest Deals: This ecoupon is good on FRESH Wild Harvest produce too, which is what I used it on. Love produce deals!
Culinary Circle Deals: I used this ecoupon last week on the CC pizzas, but I noticed this week that many of the CC Artisan Breads in the deli are priced between $3-$4. I like these a lot too and there aren’t a lot of deals on them, so you could score some good bread to go with your cheap DiLusso deli cuts…
Remember that these ecoupons are one-shots, so decide what ONE item from each group you’d like to use them on.
There are a bunch of “Buy 2 Get 1 Free” offers in the weekly ad! Unfortunately no prices are listed, so the prices shown below were gathered at the Huntley Jewel-Osco location. Prices may vary slightly at your store.

* The Best Deal: I wanted to try to work the Buy-36, get-20-FREE coupon into this deal too. At my store, the 36ct. Playtex Sport are $6.79. The best way to do this would be to buy two of these ($13.58.) Use two $1 printables on these two larger boxes (now $11.58.) Use two “Buy-36, get-20-FREE” coupons to make two 20ct. boxes free, and grab a THIRD 20ct. box, which is free under the Buy 2 Get 1 Free Jewel sale. You will pay $11.58 for 5 boxes, or about $2.32 each. This works out to almost what you’d pay with the two-computer deal above, but two of your five boxes are much larger with more tampons inside each box = maximizing the deal.
* UPDATE: The Deal That’s Even Better Than The Best Deal: Do the same “Best Deal” as above, but reader Penny J Pincher writes to look for $3 coupons for the 36-count hanging on the shelf at your store. Use two $3 coupons in place of the two $1 printables. ($13.58 – $3 – $3 = $7.58.) Use two “Buy-36, get-20-FREE” coupons to make two 20ct. boxes free, and grab a THIRD 20ct. box, which is free under the Buy 2 Get 1 Free Jewel sale. You will pay $7.58 for 5 boxes, or about $1.52 each!

Loaves of Rosen’s bread are on a U Pick 2 special. Buy two 24-oz. loaves and pay $2.39 for both, or about $1.20 each. The ad notes that you must use the provided U Pick 2 bag to receive this price. At my store, the bag was near the bread, and it says “Pick Two And Save” on the front. The bread did NOT ring up correctly – it rang at $4.79 and not $2.39… Make sure yours rings up according to the ad. This is a very good price for Rosen’s, as they have a lot of delicious varieties of deli-type breads too (marble rye, etc.) – Jewel stores are stating that this price and deal was a misprint in the ad, and they are charging $4.79 for both loaves now.
Birds Eye frozen vegetables (10-16oz.) are $1
Plochman’s Mustard (10.5oz.) is $1
Jewel 8ct. Hamburger or Hot Dog Buns are $1
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
Taste of Home FREE Cookbook, 5-cup Rice Cooker and 12-quart Tamale Steamer P&G Promotion
Jewel is running an “A Taste Of Home” mail-in promotion on P&G products. Buy $25 worth of P&G products in one transaction and receive a 2-piece cookware set and one cookbook of your choice via mail (view ad here.)
The cookware is a 12-quart tamale steamer, a 5-cup rice cooker, and one of the following cookbooks: “Fresh Mexico,” “Latin Grilling,” or “Cocina Cubana.” $25 worth of goods must be purchased in the same transaction, and you must submit a receipt from the same store you found the forms in (must be from Jewel – cannot use a Dominick’s receipt, etc.)
The offer runs through 4/30/12. Look for the forms for this rebate in Spanish/Latino Jewel locations.
The form for this offer is online too on another store’s website. Several readers called the number on the form and were told that printable versions would be accepted.
UPDATE! On 2/11, I received my A Taste of Home package. It contained the rice cooker, the “Latin Grilling” cookbook I chose, and a note stating that due to overwhelming demand, the tamale steamer will not be available until June 2012, so it will ship separately.

Here are your Hilander deals (also running at Logli and Schnucks)… View weekly ad | Load “Schnupons” ecoupons
The Rockford-area Logli stores share the same ad as Hilander (Schnucks) now, so these deals apply at the four Rockford-area Logli stores as well. I have had some readers from DeKalb write and ask if these deals will also apply to their store. In looking at both ads, SOME of the deals are the same, but Rockford at times has a Hilander-specific wraparound that isn’t a part of the DeKalb Schnucks ad. Remember too that the DeKalb store does not double coupons.
The current ad is good through TUESDAY, March 27th.

Once again, CVS is running another “Spend $30, Get $10” sale. There are a lot of Easter items in this week! Here are your products and matchups:
Bounty Paper Towels (12ct.) – $10
– .25 off – 3/4 PG
Charmin Toilet Paper (16 double rolls) – $10
– .25 off – 3/4 PG
Duracell Alkaline Batteries (16ct. AA or AAA, 8ct. C or D, 4ct. 9V, or Ultra Power 12ct. AA or AAA) – $11.99
– .75 off – 3/4 PG
Puffs Plus Lotion Tissues (124ct.) – $1.50
BEST BETS: If you need paper products, buy 3 Bounty or Charmin big packs ($30.) Use three .25 coupons for either (now $29.25.) Pay $29.25 and get $10 back. That’s $19.25 for all.
In an all-Bounty deal, $19.25 for 36 rolls of paper towels is about .53 per roll – this is a GREAT price for Bounty!
In an all-Charmin deal, $19.25 for 48 rolls of TP is about .40 per double roll – also a good price for Charmin.
SUNDAY ONLY! Sunshine Cheez-It crackers (7.5-9oz.) are $1.99. Buy two and use the $1-off-2 coupon from 1/29 RP2. You’ll pay $2.98 for two, or $1.49 each!
There are some other spend-this, get-that deals going this week. I thought the “Spend $20, Get $10” on Glade looked good until I saw how high some of the things were priced this week ($9.99 for the Sense & Spray!) so… I passed.
CVS is running a “Spend $10, Get $3” deal on a variety of foods. The best item to go for here is the Bertolli pasta sauce. Bertolli sauces (15-24oz.) are on sale 3-for-$5, or about $1.66 each. The 3/4 SS has a $1.50-off-2 coupon. However, this coupon is LIMITED to two like coupons per transaction.
No worries though – CVS’s spend-this-get-that offers are cumulative on your card. So, to best do this deal, buy six jars ($10.) Split them into two transactions — one with four jars, one with two. Here’s how it looks:
Transaction #1:
Buy 4 jars of Bertolli ($6.66)
Use two $1.50-off-2 coupons (now $3.66)
Pay $3.66
Transaction #2:
Buy 2 jars of Bertolli ($3.33)
Use one $1.50-off-2 coupon (now $1.83)
Pay $1.83 and get $3 back in ECBs.
When it’s all said and done, you’ve paid $5.49 and gotten $3 back. That’s $2.49 for 6 jars, or about .42 each! Great price for Bertolli.
Softsoap Bar Soap (4ct.) is on sale for $3. Buy 3 and get $3 back in ECBs! The 3/25 SS has a $1 coupon. With 3 coupons, pay $6 and get $3 back — that’s $3 for 3, or $1 per 4-pack.
“No Coupon Needed” Deals:
Salma Hayek Nuance cosmetics, hair, body or facial care products are on a “Spend $20, get $10 in ECBs” deal
Palmer or Russel Stover chocolate or white chocolate Easter Bunnies (1.25-7oz.) are .88 each.
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Kroger | Hilander (Schnucks) | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Hi- I just logged onto Dominick’s, and I noticed that under deal match they have healthy choice soup for $.80 a can. It does not say that you have to purchase 10 cans to get it for that price. Has anybody tried this at Dominick’s? The only bad thing about Dominick’s, is that they only carry three varieties of healthy choice soup in the cans. I believe Jewel carries a much larger selection. Thanks, Nancy

Was at the Cherry Valley Schnucks location today who had the Reynolds Parchment paper 2/5.00 or 2.50 each through I believe 3/27. It did ring up as 2.50 on receipt. Can use 12-04 S Reynold’s Parchment Paper $0.50/1. I noticed that the parchment paper is not labeled as on sale at another location. Not sure if there is a cheaper deal on this but 1.00 a box didn’t sound bad to me.

Hi All, I’m new to this and was wondering about the buy 2 get one free specials. I noticed that Jill has posted to use 2-3 coupons. Does this mean I need to buy more than 1 newspaper a week in order to get coupons for these deals? And if so, how many do I need to buy? Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, I just don’t know how this will all work out for me. I live in a rural area so my shopping trips are very limited. I don’t want to be buying newspapers and having the coupons go to waste because I cannot get to the stores as often as I would like. Thanks for any input.

Jill,
I am new to couponing, and have learned everything I know from your website. I appreciate your honesty and your methods. Today as I was shopping I discovered that If I combine the deal match deal for Bird’s Eye vegetables with the frozen food catalina deal that I would then receive free vegetables. My first transaction was for 4 bird’s eye vegetables (normally 3.29… deal match makes it $1.00 per bag) so for the first transaction I paid 4.00 plus tax. I then received a buy $10.00 get $5.00 off catalina on “New” items… my second transaction was for 5 bags of Bird’s eye vegetables all with “New” on the bag, I scanned my catalina and the order total came to 0.00…i then received another catalina. This continued 3-4 times. I was astonished that I kept getting catalina’s. I ended up getting 40 bags of vegetables for free! I would have kept rolling over my coupons but the last time the catalina didn’t print. This is the first time I have ever bought more than like 4-5 of one item in order to stock up. I normally never would have grabbed 40 bags. I have two questions… was I doing something wrong? If not, why did the catalina stop printing? I can’t find any catalina policy’s online, and I don’t want to cheat anyone. I was really excited about this deal working but at the same time can’t help but think “was this too good to be true?”

I did the paper towel deal at CVS today. It’s not spend $30 get a cash card (which I would have liked! No expiration) – you get $10 in extra bucks. I’ll still use it, I just like the cash card deals better. I give them to my kids at college.

I tried using the Mars $1 of 2 coupon at the Algonquin Randall Rd. Walgreen’s on 2 single candy eggs priced at .39 each and they refused the coupon. They said it had to be used on bagged candy. When I pointed out that the coupon didn’t say that they still refused to take it. Just an FYI. Don’t know if others are having same issue.

Inside the front page of Joseph’s Market Wednessay ad are two Man Q’s. 1 for $2 off Coke and the other for Powerade B10G5F. Looks like Jewel is the cheapest. Taking $2 off when you buy 4 will put you at $2.25ea.

I found an 89oz bottle of Tropicana OJ at Jewel for $4.99 (super price for this OJ and size)
While in the dairy case, I found a Jewel coupon for free eggs with the purchase of the OJ.
Inside the Jewel egg carton is a coupon for 75 cents off Panko Bread Crumbs.
The Panko coupon will need to be used on a later trip as it’s part of the egg carton, but just had to share this deal.
The coupon for the free eggs was good through 4/4.
