IF YOU ARE A “BLACK BELT” COUPONER:
My black belt couponers know that these deals typically work differently at Jewel than at any other store.
VERY IMPORTANT: If you have never done a high-level Catalina deal at Jewel before, YOU MUST read this short overview of the way the price structure works. In a nutshell, if you base your dollar-spent mark on the non-Preferred prices, you can save even more money and spend less out of pocket.
If this makes no sense or is the least bit confusing to you… do NOT do the deal in this way. These high-level Catalina deals can be very confusing, especially when you’re new at this. If you are new, use the PREFERRED price only, and you’ll get the Catalina every time. But if you’re a “black belt” couponer and want to maximize your savings… here are some of the best deals. Again, if you use these scenarios and do not get your Catalina, DO NOT go to Customer Service and ask them to make it right for you. You WILL NOT have purchased what the ad states that you must. Again, YOU are taking the risk on these deals. You must be willing to accept ANY outcome without complaining, even if it means not getting any Catalinas at all. |

AGAIN, IF YOU ARE NEW… PLEASE, PLEASE do not use these scenarios if you are afraid of them not working for you. Understanding WHY things work this way and how the prices are structured is key to getting these deals right – and if you figure them wrong, you CANNOT go to the staff at your store and ask them to make it right. Be willing to “take one for the team…” or play it according to the ad, and you’re guaranteed to get your Catalina each time.

Deals continuing from last week:
Jewel’s house brand of diapers, Baby Basics, are $7.99 a pack. Print this $4 coupon, and then print another $4 coupon at www.babybasicsclub.com! These will cut the price in half to $3.99 a pack!
If you’re a fan of Jewel’s Wild Harvest line of organics, here’s your chance to take some home cheap or FREE! Print this $1 off any Wild Harvest coupon and look around the store — there are MANY Wild Harvest products that sell for $1, or close to it — crackers, cookies, organic produce… even reusable shopping bags.
Jewel meat deals:
- Jewel fresh chicken drumsticks or thighs are $1.29/lb
- Cook’s fresh point-cut corned beef is $1.68/lb
- Fresh cut pork roast supreme or pork spare ribs are $1.99/lb
(Anytime meat is under $1.99 a pound (no matter what it is — beef, pork, poultry, or seafood) it’s a buy in my book, because $1.99 is a cycle low and a good benchmark for meat prices.)
Jewel produce deals:
- Anjou or Red Anjou pears are $1.29/lb.
- Farm Stand baby-cut carrots are $1.50 for a 1lb. bag
- Granny Smith, Red Delicious, Jazz or Pink Lady apples are $1.88/lb.

Load .50-off-2 coupons from Cellfire and Shortcuts.
With 7 .50-off-2 coupons, pay $22.10 and get $10 back. 14 boxes for $12.10 is .86 a box.
(YES, we have and will see these cheaper than this in the future. But if you like and want these… that’s about the best we have at the moment.)
Or…
_____________________________________________________
A better all-vegetables deal with NO coupons
Buy 10 bags of Safeway Frozen Vegetables ($25)
Pay $25 and get $10 back = $15 for 10 bags.
While this doesn’t seem all that hot, remember that these are 32-ounce (2lb) bags. $1.50 a bag for 2 lbs. of frozen vegetables is a good price. Not great, but certainly good.
_____________________________________________________
And, for those die-hard people who chased the Jewel Preferred Card Update promo around the suburbs throughout 2009, if you did the Update a ridiculous amount of times, you just might have enough coupons for this next, wild scenario:
A “You have HOW many Jewel Update Books?” sausage deal
Buy 13 boxes of Jones Frozen Sausages ($26)
Use 13 $1 coupons from Jewel Preferred Update book
Pay $13 and get $10 back! 13 boxes of sausages for $3!
(Yeah… highly unlikely. BUT, that $1 coupon is an excellent one to work into a mix & match on other products here.)
If you did the $25/$10 P&G Catalina at Dominick’s within the last two weeks, you CAN roll that $10 Catalina into this new frozen food deal — a great way to reduce your out-of-pocket total even more. Be aware that the $10 Catalina you get from this new frozen food deal specifies it is good on your next purchase of FROZEN FOOD. The plus? You can keep rolling it back into this frozen deal.
But if you’re done rolling frozens and want a good way to use up that last frozen Catalina, you might like this scenario that I did:
A use-up-a-$10 Frozen Food Doms Catalina on some other cheap frozen stuff deal
12-ounce boxes of Mama Lucia frozen meatballs are on sale for $1.99. (While my normal benchmark for meats is $1.99 a pound, and these are slightly smaller than that, it’s still an excellent price for meatballs.)
So, buy 5 boxes of Mama Lucia meatballs ($9.95.) We’re very close to using up that $10 Frozen Food Catalina. However, that extra .05 still MUST be spent on frozen food too (I know, I know.) So…
Add one Banquet chicken or beef pot pie – .88 each.
Total: $10.83. Roll that $10 Frozen Food Catalina in, pay .83, and you’ve taken home more cheap frozen food… AND gotten rid of your Catalina. Worked for me! :)
Moving beyond the Catalina craziness, here are other little Dom’s deals worth noting:
Continuing through 4/1, PureVia sweetener is on sale for $1.99. Use the $2 coupon in 1/3 SS1 and it’s yours… FREE!
As usual, there are some Dominick’s Super Coupons* in this week’s ads too. Best bet?
- Comet cleanser is .89 with Super Coupon, limit 4. Stack it with a .35 coupon from 1/24 SS, 10/11/09 SS, or 8/2/09 SS and pay .54 a can.
- If you celebrate Passover, there are also quite a few coupon for kosher and Passover products in the flyer too. Many readers have written to note that it’s difficult to save on Passover foods, so these may help you in your holiday preparations
.
Dominick’s meat deals:
- Fresh Perdue whole chickens are .79/lb
- Rib Pork Loin chops are $1.29/lb.
- Safeway boneless, skinless chicken breasts are $1.99/lb
- Rancher’s Reserve boneless beef chuck roast is $1.99/lb.
Dominick’s produce deals:
- Fuji apples are .99/lb – EXCELLENT price
- Granny Smith apples are $1.29/lb.
- Strawberries are $1.88 for a 16oz. package – also a GREAT price.
- Asparagus is $1.29/lb. Use this .50 coupon and pay .79/lb! (Who says there aren’t coupons for produce?)
- 8lb. bags of Navel oranges are $3.99
*A note on Dominick’s Super Coupons: Dominick’s has changed their policy on minimum purchases for “Super Coupons.” You’ll remember that the old policy stated that the $10 or $20 minimums were based on the regular, non-sale, non-Fresh Values prices of the products:
What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases before your Club Card discount is applied. This total will include the coupon item’s regular price, not the discounted price. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (before coupon and before Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.
Got that? Now look at the new policy on Dominick’s site:
What does “minimum $10 (or $20) purchase required” mean? To use store coupons that include a minimum purchase requirement, you must spend a minimum dollar amount on that shopping trip. You will reach the minimum purchase amount based upon total purchases after your Club Card discount is applied. For example, the regular retail price of a box of Cheerios (after Club Card discounts) will count toward the minimum purchase required in order to use the Cheerios coupon.
This policy change is certainly a disappointing turn of events, to say the least…
Heading over to Meijer, we continue to have a small break from the Catalina insanity (is that good or bad?) Here’s a quickie list of Meijer’s best deals this week:
Bumble Bee Chunk White Tuna is on sale for .67 a package. Use the .55 coupon from 2/21 SS and pay just .12!
Nabisco Wheat Thins are on sale for $2. Use the $1 coupon from 1/24 SS and take them home for $1
Land O’ Frost sliced lunchmeat is on sale for $3 for a 1lb. package. Print this $2 coupon and take it home for $1! A dollar for a pound of lunchmeat is a fabulous price…
Here’s a good deal on Ocean Spray Cranberry Juices. They’re on sale for $2 each. If you picked up some of the “Value Your Heart” coupon books at Jewel last month, there’s a manufacturer coupon inside for $1 off 2 Ocean Spray juices. Stack this with the $1-off-2 Meijer Mealbox coupon, buy 2, and pay just $1 each!
And, if you have the same “Value Your Heart” coupon book from Jewel, and you like oatmeal, you’ll want to cut the $2-off-2 Quaker Oatmeal coupon out too. It’s on sale at Meijer for $1.88 a box. Buy two, use coupon, pay .88 a box! There’s also a $1 coupon in the 2/7 RP for more cheap oatmeal!
If you didn’t use the good Buy One, Get One Free Stayfree coupon in the 1/3 RP insert, this would be a good week to use it at Meijer. Stayfree pads are on sale for $3.12, Buy Two, Get One Free. Buy 3, use the coupon, and you’ll buy ONE, getting TWO free! Pay $3.12 for all 3 packs, or just $1.04 each!
Suave shampoo and lotions are on sale 3-for-$5. (Wait, that’s NO deal if you’ve been to Jewel lately. Just seeing if you’re paying attention! LOL!)
Meijer ALSO has a frozen food Catalina deal running (and at this point, I have to confess, I have logged more hours in this week’s Deals writeup than ANY other deal in my eighteen-plus months of blogging Deals of the Week.) This one’s not as hot as the Jewel and Doms’ deals, nor are there many good matchups, so I’ll be brief…
Meijer is running a “Spend $20, get $5” Catalina on frozen food. Here are your matchups:
Boston Market dinners or pot pies – $2.19 DiGiorno Original 12″ Pizza – $5 Totino’s Pizza Rolls 40ct. – $2.50 (that IS cheap for the big bag) Stouffer’s Party Size Lasagna or Chicken Enchiladas – $9.99 Dean’s Ice Cream – $3 Tyson Frozen Boneless Chicken Strips and Nuggets – $3.99 |
You know the drill by now… mix, match, get to $20, get $5 :)
Meijer meat deals:
- Pork shoulder bone-in Western style ribs are .99.lb
- Boneless beef chuckeye roast is $2.19/lb (a little over my benchmark, but still a fair price)
Meijer produce deals:
- Peaches,nectarines, or plums are .99/lb
- Red, Anjou or Bosc pears are $1.18/lb
- Strawberries are $2 for a 1lb. container
- 2lb. bags of lemons or limes are $2 – VERY cheap!
- California seedless navel oranges are $2.50 for a 5lb. bag
- 10lb. bags of russet potatoes are $1.99
Note that Meijers in other states are on different schedules. The Illinois Meijers are about a week behind on the sales vs. Indiana/Michigan. If you’re in Illinois, these Meijer deals run through Wednesday. If you’re reading from another state, they ENDED Saturday at your store… Confusing? Yes. AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES Meijer location, they haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers, under the convoluted reasoning that because the store is new, people will shop there -without- as many products being on sale. O-kay.
For my Rockford-area shoppers (and Kroger shoppers too!) Hilander really has some great sales going on this week that will have you taking home lots of freebies! Jump on these FAST! Our first two deals must be done TODAY, MONDAY ONLY!

Continuing from last week… Personal care freebies! One of the constants of being a coupon shopper is that you rarely, if ever, pay for ANY personal care products, and this holds true with our next two Hilander deals!
Reach dental floss is also on sale for $1. There are lots of coupons current for this — any $1 coupons from 1/3 RP, 10/18/09 RP, or 10/4/09 RP will have you taking these home FREE!
Listerine Pocket Packs are also (you guessed it) on sale for a buck. The .50 coupons from 1/3 RP and 10/18 RP will double, netting you two FREE!

Off to Target, where there’s a great deal on Crest Kids Toothpaste. It’s on temporary price cut to $1.49. Use the .75 coupon from 3/7 or 2/7 PG and stack it with this $1 Target Store coupon for $1 off Kids’ Crest. And guess what… it’s FREE!
Continuing our “free stuff for kids” theme, Forum reader MerNewQFreak spotted a deal on free Band-aids at Target. Kids’ Band-Aids are on price cut to $1.88. Use the $1 Band-Aid coupon from 1/3 RP and stack it with this $1 Target store Band-Aid coupon = FREE Band-Aids! Nice!
Numerous readers have reported seeing Gillette Men’s Body Wash on sale for $1.99 — it’s usually on an endcap and not with the other body washes. This item pairs nicely with the $2 off Gillette Men’s Body Wash coupons in 2/7 PG and 3/7 PG!
Keebler Wheatables crackers are $1.99. Use the $1 coupon in the Parade Magazine from Sunday’s paper and take them home for .99!
Anyone who’s taken my Super-Couponing class knows how much I love free Johnson & Johnson’s Buddies baby soaps! This week’s 3/7 RP has a $1 coupon for any Johnson’s Baby product (1/3 RP has the same coupon if you haven’t used it yet.) But why stop there? Here’s another $1 printable… and yet another $1 printable! Yes, that’s a lot of free soap!
Note that because the soaps sell for .97 at Target, the coupons will beep. The cashier can either choose to allow the .03 overage or adjust the value of the coupon down to .97. Strangely, many Target cashiers don’t know how to do this, but it’s addressed right in their coupon policy on Target.com. Print and carry a copy with you if you anticipate any issues.
AT SOME STORES: Special K Fruit Crisps (fruit-filled wafers) are ringing up at $1.27 a box (may not be marked on shelf – check with price scanner.) When you buy 5, you’ll get a $5 Target gift card (on many Kellogg’s products too, through 3/13.)
Even with no coupons, this is a good deal – pay $6.35 for 5 boxes and get $5 back! But with coupons, it’s even better. 2/21 RP has a .75 coupon. Print another .75 coupon here, a $1 off coupon here and another $1 off coupon here. (Remember to print 2 from each link!)
With one .75 coupon and four $1 coupons, pay $1.60 and get a $5 gift card! Moneymaker Special K!
Thanks to forum reader SavingGuru for spotting this deal!
Continuing from last week, some stores are carrying a new Gillette Fusion razor at Target. It’s in a cardboard package vs. the larger plastic bubble, and it’s value-priced at $4.99! If your Target has these, use the $4 coupon from 2/7 PG and take it home for .99!
Over at Kmart, they are ALSO having a high-value Catalina deal this week involving numerous cleaning and paper products!
Kmart is running a “Spend $20, get $5 OR Spend $30, get $10 Catatalina deal.
What’s interesting about this sale is that the ad states “Offer is good on ANY size, scent or variety of these featured brands,” and then goes on to list the brands, noting that there are over 165 included items. No worrying about UPC lists or spreadsheets here! Here are your matchups. (Note that the ad features VERY few prices – I’ve noted them here. If you come up with a good scenario, please feel free to post and share it!) Angel Soft – $5.49 for 12 double or 24 regular rolls Brawny Coast Dial – $3.50 for 8 bar soap, body wash or body wash refill Dixie Purex – $4 for 72oz. liquid, $5 for 3-in-1 Quilted Northern Renuzit – $1 for Adjustables, $2.79 for Pearl Scents Right Guard – $2.50 deodorant Soft Scrub Sparkle – $5.49 for 8-roll pack Tone – $3.50 for 6-bar soap Vanity Fair Zout |
While we’re on the topic, Kmart’s Super Double Coupons event is scheduled to return 4/4-4/10! More on that as we get closer… but this is a FUN event for Chicagoans, as we have NO double coupon promotions in our immediate area other than this. And, this Catalina sale runs through 4/12/10! So we’ll have some overlap between the Catalina and the double coupons early next month.
Drugstore Deals
Heading to Walgreens, Coffee-Mate creamer is cheap! It’s on sale for $1.50. Use the .75 coupon from 2/7 RP and pay just .75!
Here’s a good deal on Vicks and Puffs IF you get multiple inserts and haven’t done it already. (I’ve posted numerous variations on this deal since January each time it’s rolled around.)
This time, Vicks NyQuil and DayQuil are on sale for $4.49 each. Buy $20 worth and get $10 back in RR. So, you’ll need to buy 5 bottles ($22.45.)
Use as many $1.50 off Vicks coupons as you have – they’re in the 3/7 PG and 2/21 PG. Also, you’ll want to use the “Buy 2 Vicks, get free Puffs” coupon from 2/7 PG.
With two $1.50 coupons and one free Puffs coupon, buy 5 Vicks and 1 Puffs. Pay $19.45 and get $10 back. Your Vicks works out to $1.89 each!
Where this deal really shines… if you have five $1.50 coupons and two free Puffs coupons, buy 5 Vicks and 2 Puffs. Pay $14.95 and get $10 back. Now the Vicks is .99 a bottle… and you get two free Puffs too!
ANOTHER WAY TO DO THE DEAL: Forum reader Tctbtob noted that the $1.50 Vicks coupons are good on “any Vicks product,” and Vicks cough drops are on sale for .99 a bag, or two for $1.79. (Note that the cashier may adjust the coupon down, or you may get overage.) Buy 2 bags of cough drops — they’ll be free — AND get FREE Puffs with the other coupon for purchasing 2 Vicks products! Very nice deal!
While we coupon shopper can often get FREE shampoo pretty regularly (see Jewel this week) the salon/professional brands don’t go on sale quite as often… until now. John Frieda shampoos and hair care are on sale for $5.99. Use the Walgreens coupon in the March coupon booklet (on the wire racks at the front of the store) and stack it with the $2 manufacturer coupon from 3/7 SS… for some .99 “expensive” shampoo!
Forum reader Brc found a nice deal to net you FREE Post cereal. Post Grape-Nuts and Shredded Wheat are on sale for $1.75 each. Print this $2 coupon for Post Cereal… and take it home FREE! (Note again that the cashier may adjust the coupon down, or you may get overage.)
And finally, over at CVS, Nivea Lip Care is an easy freebie! Buy one at $2.99 and get $2.99 back in ECBs! Free Nivea!
Let’s not stop there… because we like more free things! Oral B toothbrushes are on sale for $4 with $4 back in ECBs. FREE… but we can make these moneymakers with the .75 coupons in 2/21 PG and 2/7 PG! These are limit 2, so pick up two and make $1.50 on your free toothbrushes :)
Gillette Fusion razors are on sale for $8.99 with $4 back in ECBs. Use the $4 coupon from 2/7 PG, pay $4.99 and get $4 back. Enjoy your .99 razor!
If you have the “Refresh Your Nest” P&G coupon book (home mailer,) there’s a $1 coupon inside for Dawn Hand Renewal dish detergent. Dawn is on sale this week for .97 at CVS, and Hand Renewal is usually included. FREE dish soap! The 3/7 PG also has .50 off Dawn Hand Renewal if you’d like more at .47 a bottle…
Kellogg’s cereals are pretty cheap at CVS this week too. They’re on sale for $2.50 each. Buy 4 and get $5 back in ECBs. Use two $1.50-off-2 printables, pay $7 and get $5 back – that works out to .50 a box. If you need cereal, this is not a bad price!
CVS Tip: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the price scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* (All You magazine is not a requirement for using the site, but if you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s a cheap ($2.49 an issue) magazine that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! You can subscribe to All You online and save about $10/year off the cover price. And depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Question on the pizza:
“Buy 4 California Pizza Kitchen pizzas (first two will be $3.99, next two will be $5.99 – total $19.96)”
Is there a new ad out? I’ve got the Thursday ad and only see the two types as $4.99 each. I guess in multiples of four it comes out the same total but in case some lesser quantity mix and matching is done how come some ring at $5.99 and some at $3.99?
P.S. thanks for the spreadsheet, the ad doesn’t even show these as part of the $25/$10 deal.

Be careful with the ketchup- for the black belt it has a “sale” price of $1.49 meaning you would have to buy 17 to get over the $25 amount. This messed me up and some other people shopping at the same time! Check your prices and have fun!

at the Bartlett Dominicks they won’t let me use two similiar coupons… so for the cinnamon roll deal, I can only use one cinnamon roll coupon, not two or three.. even though I am purchasing more than one. I have alot of Jewel preferred update books.. followed them all over, but they will only let me use one sausage coupon per transaction. Does this make any sense at all?? They would get reimbursed for every coupon. I could print their policy out and see a manager and go thru all the hassle until they finally caved but… I think I’ll just go up the street to Jewel where they happily accept all my coupons and never give me dirty looks! :)

When I printed out the Healthy Choice and Orville Redenbacher coupons, they printed in reverse … like a mirror image. Did anyone else have this problem? I won’t be able to re-print because I reached my limit but wondering if this is just me…. anyone had this in the past, would the store be able to take them?
mnukem says
Hi fellow super-couponers,

I went to CVS yesterday and got the 2 Oral B toothbrushes. Used the B1G1F from 3/7 SS and paid $4 for 2. Got back $8 in ECBs. Also, Almay is a good deal there too. It’s on sale B1G1F, and there’s $2 off any product from 2/7 SS and $1 off from 3/7 SS.

After you play through the “game” once, it takes you back to the beginning and wants you to play over and over for more coupons… quite tedious.
Fortunately, you don’t have to play it repeatedly. Instead, when you’re at the “select” screen click your browser’s address bar, and replace /#/select with /#/coupons to jump straight to the end. (there may be a slight pause before you can click the character to actually get the coupon) Repeat as necessary.

If you prefer Cole’s garlic bread over some of the others…they are part of the “Chill” deal & are B1G1 this week. So….at my Jewel, they were $3.69 each. Bought ten for $13.69 before tax & got a $10 cat! But BEWARE…10 packages of Garlic Toast take up ALOT of room in your freezer!

Just trying to figure out why I didn’t get a $10 catalina for ConAgra deal. I checked UPCs but maybe I have dates wrong or something, or maybe my math was wrong.
I did:
5 Gulden spicy brown mustards -> 2.39 = 11.95 (6414432160)
4 100 Calorie smart pops -> 3.59 = 14.36 (2700048198 and 2700048288)
total = 26.31 non prfrd
I also bought a gallon of milk and a carton of eggs. I used 2 $2/2 popcorn coupons, the YB from the eggs, and a $10 P&G catalina. Total 3.19. Using non-preferred prices has always worked before at this store (McLean/Elgin).
Anybody know? Thanks. I’m sure it’s something obvious.

Conagra game has redi whip coupons. buy 4 redi whips 4 hunts diced and 3 rotel (not sure of the exact mix yet) use 50 off each reddi whip and 1 dollar off hunts diced and 1 off rotel(both from mailer). puts the total estimate at 12.96 with 10 coming back. Anyone try this yet?

I tried the coffee deal you wrote up and it’s still a good deal, though not what you figured…
2 Maxwell Coffee @6.99= $13.98
1 Planters nutrition= $3.99
2 Crest Pro Health @$2.29= $4.58
Total= $22.55
(I think you only added 1 crest in your sub-total???)
Minus 2 $1 Crest Q’s and 1 $1 Nuts Q = $19.55. Also, the Avenu didn’t come off on my order for the Crest for some reason, so I had to bring in a photocopy of the page to prove I loaded it. Then they gave me $2 and my net was $17.55 plus tax for the 5 items. Got the $10 cat, so that makes it $7.55. That’s awesome for 2 coffees alone, nevermind the toothpaste and nuts. Great deal, Jill, thanks :) Oh yea, I don’t think there is a $1 your bucks on the coffee. It’s not on my your bucks list and I didn’t get one when I scanned the coffee.
shlee says
I love poppycock….tried to buy 7 @ $3.95 each and got no cat. Anyone else try a deal with poppycock? I bought the cashew, and the upc’s matched up with “the list” and I scanned each one at the store scanner to be sure of the non-preferred price.
icoupon2 says
I am a happy camper! Thanks for posting the Pantene deal! My mom loves it and of course she has trouble finding it at a reasonable price where she is in South Dakota.
I did:
6 Pantene Shampoo (3.99/2.99)
2 Pantene Conditioner (3.99/2.99)
2 Beggin Strips (3.99 each)
5 BC Fruit Snacks
1 Jewel 16 oz. white bread
I used four $3/2 Pantene
1 B1G1 Beggin Strips
Two .50/2 Fruit Snacks
$15.50 in previous cats
Total oop $12.55 with 15.50 back in cats. Up $2.95 (which I promptly gave back and then some by forgetting to split up my 2 Nesquick 4 packs into my 2 transactions. So only one $2YB back on that order!)
The 2nd transaction didn’t go nearly as smoothly! I stacked a Kraft & ConAgra and didn’t get the Kraft cat. Why? Because I’m an idiot! I was just going to return the starter kit and refills, and keep everything else even though I didn’t get the cat. I had done the deal 2x this week so I just couldn’t figure out what went wrong.
When I went to return them, the woman (who had to come over with the “magic key” twice!) said didn’t you get your cat? I said no but I am not going to return everything, I must have done something wrong, but I really don’t need these. She said well honey, let’s have a look at your receipt and see if we can figure it out. Turns out I grabbed the 3 pack of Swiffer refills (5.59), instead of the 6 pack (9.99/7.99) She said go run get the right one, I’ll return the 3 pack, charge for the 6 pack and generate the cat. I told her that was ok, she didn’t have to do all that, it was my mistake but she insisted! She was so sweet. I kept apologizing! So it worked out in the end but what a mess!!
Now if I can stay off the blog and out of the stores I could get to dusting! LOL
After all the cats back I spent around 18 bucks today and got:
10 Fruit Snacks
8 Pantene
4 Beggin Strips
1 White bread
8pk. Sparkle paper towels
2 Cascade Gel
2 Nestle Quick 4 pks.
2 50 ct. Dixie plates
1 Swiffer Duster
1 Swiffer Duster Refill (6 ct.!)
1 Dawn Direct Foam
1 Nivea Men’s soothing lotion
2 Crest with Scope
1 Yoo-Hoo (to entice cooperation in the checkout lane!)
1 Gatorade (to entice cooperation in the checkout lane!)
Not a bad day! 28 items for $18 is about .64 each! :)

The Snapple Q in the 1/31 SS is for “Save $1 on (1) 6-pack (16 oz. glass bottles) of Snapple…” but the 12-pack is part of the ConAgra deal, so they don’t jive. Boo hoo for my niece.

I just wanted to say thank you to Jill and all the other blog members who have answered all my questions over the past few months that I’ve been trying to catch on to this. I had THE BEST night EVER at Jewel tonight. I left the house with $100 cash, and came home with $40 cash, $20 in leftover cats, and a minivan literally loaded with groceries! I couldn’t believe how long it took me to empty the van and put it all away!
I even successfully tried a few of the black belt deals and think I finally get it!! I did get burned on the Kraft shredded cheese black belt deal though (my Jewel doesn’t have a price checker so then what do you do?). Anyway, I was still thrilled!
Got home and found $12 in rebate checks in my mailbox! Thank you all so much for your help and information!

Hey I just started couponing and was wondering how often can I print coupons on coupons.com? I printed the fruit snacks coupons last week and wanted to stock up more but the coupons say “PRINT LIMIT REACHED” Does this mean I won’t be able to get those anymore or will they return after a certain amount of time?

Walgreen’s has free Fusion Hydra, Satin Care or Series Shave gel free with the purchase of Gillette cartridges. There are a number of Fusion coupons out there, and I’m sure that there is a great deal lurking in this scenario. Unfortunately, I am not the best at figuring these things out. I’m a rule-breaker who clips and files coupons (sorry, Jill!) so I don’t know where these all came from (though probably the P&G Brand Saver) but some of the coupons that I have are: Free razor with Fusion cartridge pack; Buy one Fusion Shave Prep and get a Gillette Body wash Free; Save $1 on any Fusion Pre/Post Shave product, and $3 off any 6 ct. or larger Fusion cartridges. So here’s what I’m thinking: Buy the the 8-pack of Fusion cartridges and use the $3 off coupon. Pair the Free razor coupon with that and pick up the razor. The Shave gel is free with the cartridges, so grab that and pair it with the $1 off shave product coupon and also the buy one shave prep coupon, get one body wash free….so go grab a body wash. Ooooo….IF I can use the manufacturer’s coupon for $1 off the already free shave gel, can’t I also pair a $2 off body wash coupon with the already free body wash?
Ok ladies, does this work? Why or why not? I drive myself crazy, trying to figure these things out! Missie

The Beggin Strips are $3.99 now, so with the B1G1 Q and the $2YB they are 1.99 for 2 instead of .99. Still a great price for Beggin Strips.

Hi, I have a typical newbie type question but one that I’ve serached for and haven’t been able to find so far on this site.
Do the Catalina coupons print before I finish checking out? And if so, do I then take the freshly printed coupons and apply them to my current purchase or will the first purchase always be out of pocket because I need to use the Catalinas on *future* purchases? Thanks in advance! :)
jhamerla says
I am relatively new to all of this and have been doing pretty well (just had a grocery bill at Jewel on Monday that was $188.15 and I only spent $13.11), but today I went to Target (in Shorewood on 59) to get my trial size Tide and my Johnson & Johson Buddies soap (along with a few other things) and she refused to take my coupons for the soap and Tide. She said, “we have been looking into this and you can only use this coupon on regular size Tide and the Johnson’s Buddies soaps don’t count!” UGH! I am not good at speaking up -ever! So, frustrating and she acted like I was trying to steal from them.

Maybe they changed since the “Deals of the Week” posted yesterday??

I went to Meijer today to do the tuna deal. The bumblebee on sale is in the cans. The coupon is for the pouches. The deal for this week seems to indicate that the pouches are on sale for .67, but at my store the cans are .67 and the pouches are $1. Anyone find the pouches for .67? If so, what Meijer?

The prices vary from Jewel to Jewel. I pass two on my way home – Randall & Algonquin as well as Huntley – and I didn’t see Ragu for less than $1.99. Also, there were two types of bread – one going for the B1G1, and one for $0.99. It’s impossible to keep up with!! AND I am getting my Jewel’s confused, where things are, etc!!! (I also stop by the one in Sycamore, which is not too far from me!) I feel like I’m going insane!

Anyway, when I came back to the site, I couldn’t find that deal, was it taken off? Or did I totally read it wrong?
Anyway, I think if you buy 8 snack packs and 4 Yogurts…it would work =)

I just got home from my local Jewel (Chicago) and while I was there I noticed that the Betty Crocker Fruit snacks (Froot by The Foot, Fruit Roll-Ups etc…) had a shelf label that read “Buy 3 get $1.50 back in checkout coupons”. They were $1 each.
This is different to the deal I read on here where it said buy 5 get $3.50 back.
There seems to be a lot of unadvertised deals listed on here, so I’m not sure if this is one of them. Should I buy 5 or 3 to get the Catalina?
I know prices vary from store to store but do deals as well?
Thanks! :)

Hi, I’m a newbie to all of this. I am planning on heading to Jewel to try out some of these deals for the very first time, but I’m wondering how many I can do at once. What I mean is, can I use more than one scenario from ConAgra, P&G, etc. in one transaction? For example: ConAgra spend $25 get $10 catalina…can I do the “lots-of-yogurt-and-more” deal and the “heavy on tomatoes” deal in one transaction and receive $20 in catalinas, or do I have to purchase these deals seperately? Help, please!

I was just going through mine and found tearpad coupons for “Buy 2 Orville Redenbacher Popcorn, get free 2-liter of soda!” These expire 4/30 if you’ve got them — good thing I haven’t done my popcorn runs yet! :)
And if one of my free 2-liters is a Pepsi Max, there’s another YourBuck… oh, the possibilities.

Before I even logged into the new Jewel catalina site, I got a popup just for loading the sign in page that the Suave, Ragu and Degree catalinas have changed. I went ahead and signed in because I hadn’t checked these comments first to see if the Swiffer catalinas were still active. They weren’t there but my Suave, Ragu and Degree deals were still listed as they were before. I don’t know if I want to chance it or not now.
Is this how Jewel is going to do this? The catalina’s didn’t print when this was first announced and I went to the store and now they are going to change the deals without notification? I did complain about the first snafu and they said that they will mail me the catalina’s that I should have gotten.

I bought 4 CPK and 2 DiGiorno knowing that 2 of the CPK would ring at 5.99, but the DiGiorno also rang at 5.99. Looks like any combination of the two brands will bring you to your limit at 2. I suppose it’s still a good deal-after my coupons I paid 26.78 with 13 back. Considering that makes them about as cheap as Tombstone or the store brands, I suppose I will live! :)

OMG OMG OMG OMG!! I LOVE THIS SOOOOO MUCH!!
I may have to be admitted to treat this new addiction.
I went to the store 2 times yesterday and once today. I did 3 of the buy $30 get $10 and then bought some stuff on the Your Bucks list.
The total that I would have spent is about $120, and because of the coupons and whatnot I only spent about $17!!!!!!!!!
I have told my coworkers and I plan on proudly displaying my receipts. This is insane and I can’t believe I used to shop the old way.
I literally just found this website and although I was scared to try the black belt deals, I DID it 3 times and they all worked!! HOORAY! I love this site, and I have sooo much shampoo, detergent, dish soap, and toothpaste, I am good to go!!

I was at Jewel yesterday “doing the deals”. Thanks Jill, it was so much fun! However, my catalina did not print out for the Kraft/P&G Deal. I went to customer service with my receipt and was told that Always and Duracell was not part of the deal and that is why it did not work. She pulled out several Jewel flyers and showed me that they weren’t in the ad. I didn’t make a fuss. I figured I had done so well on the other deals and the Yourbucks that it was okay not to get one $10 catalina. Has anyone else encountered this problem at Jewel?

I went to Jewel last night and got 1 ragu and 1 suave (with my regular shopping items) and got the $2 CATS. I went to Jewel this morning before work and got 1 ragu and 1 suave (needed some other stuff) and got $1 CATS. I did not log into the website, but figured they made changes. So, you don’t have to log in for the changes to take effect, I think it’s a change across the board. I still feel that $1 for pasta sauce and deodorant isn’t bad, and I have gotten some really great deals since joining the coupon fun in December.

Has anyone tried the Special K Fruit Crisps deal at Target. The boxes were self scanning at $2.50 at my store. Just thought they’d be fun to try.

I just did the 2 maxwell house, 1 planters and 2 crest and used a 10.00 PG cat and didn’t get my next one. I’m thinking its because the cat doesn’t roll. Anyone know?
Thanks

Just a heads up…The Bumble Bee White Tuna is not on sale at the McHenry Meijer, so you may want to save your coupons until it is.

I assume this is a $25, get $10 on your next frozen food purchase that runs 2/28-3/30. Can you confirm that the OYNO is good on frozen food only, although that’s not clear at all from their ad??

Does anyone know if the Kellogg’s Cat for the “kiddie” cereal ended yesterday or is it still active today? I thought it ended yesterday but read somewhere it’s active today. Just curious!
