Hello, Super-Couponers, and welcome to another week of great deals! It’s been a busy week around the blog and in coupon world. This week we’re celebrating Mother’s Day, and many of us supported Stamp Out Hunger over the weekend. In couponing news, we learned that Hershey withdrew a valid coupon due to counterfeiting, and Extreme Couponing’s lack of a response to the fraud on the show continues to make headlines.

“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations are in the process of updating their cash registers to a new system. If your store has updated to the new registers, and you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed, and the Sept. 2011 coupon policy is still correct for all stores. Watch your registers.

Also in Chicago, previously-available ecoupons (Cellfire, ShortCuts and PGEsaver) have been discontinued. Ecoupons are now available in the “Just For U / Coupon Center” section of electronic coupons available at Dominicks.com.

Meijer’s running a “Spend $40, get $10” Catalina on Charmin, Bounty, Pampers and Iams. ANY products by these brands are included in the deal, but here are the products and matchups from the ad: Bounty 8 Giant Rolls – $10.49 Charmin Basic Bath Tissue (24 double rolls) – $10.49 Iams Dog or Puppy Food (5-7lbs.) – $10.99 Pampers Super Pack Diapers (68-128ct. boxes) – $24.99 Pampers Baby Wipes Refill (420-600ct.) – $11.99 The easy deals will be four Bounty, three Charmin Basic, or three Iams: Bounty Deal: Buy 4 Bounty ($41.96). Use four .25 coupons (now $40.96.) Pay $40.96 and get $10 back. That’s $30.96 for 32 giant rolls, which works out to .97 per roll. According to the package, each giant roll is equivalent to about 1 1/4 standard rolls. Charmin Basic Deal: Buy 4 Bounty ($41.96). Use four .25 coupons (now $40.96.) Pay $40.96 and get $10 back. That’s $30.96 for 96 double rolls of bath tissue, which works out to .32 per double roll, a good price. Iams deal: Buy 4 Iams ($43.96). Use four $1 coupons (now $39.96.) Pay $39.96 and get $10 back. That’s $29.96 for four 7lb. bags, or $7.49 each. Now, for the Pampers: Pampers All Wipes Deal: Three $11.99 big packs of wipes puts you at $35.97. I wrestled with using the smaller tubs of wipes ($2.99) as “fillers” to get just up to $40, or just using another $11.99 pack of wipes. You are paying more putting that fourth pack in, but you’re getting a lot more wipes too. So, if you do it that way, you’re at $47.96. Use as many .75 printables as you have (two with access to one computer, four with access to two to print.) With four .75 printables, pay $44.96 and get $10 back. That’s $34.96 for four, or $8.74 per large pack. Pampers Diapers and Wipes Deal: Buying one box and one big refill of wipes puts you at $36.98. For lack of cheap fillers, it may be best to fill in here with $3.02 worth of Bounty. Single rolls are usually around $1 (and for this example, it would be nice if they were a few pennies above $1 too..!) But for argument’s sake, let’s assume they’re $1. Add four rolls of Bounty ($40.98) and four .25 Bounty coupons, plus one $1.50 Pampers coupon and one .75 Wipes coupon. Pay $37.73 and get $10 back. That’s $27.73 for everything. If you would have paid $24.99 for the big box of diapers, this is like paying just $2.74 for the big pack of wipes too, plus all the Bounty. |

AND, if you shop at the Illinois NILES or ORLAND Meijer locations, they typically haven’t been following the same sale flyer as the other Illinois Meijers.

An all-Finish dishwasher detergent deal:
Buy 6 packages of Finish ($21)
Use six .75 coupons (now $16.50)
Pay $16.50 and get $10 back. $6.50 for six is about $1.08 each.
Note that because these coupons are “limit 2,” you will need to split this deal into three transactions of two Finish each to do a 6-coupon deal. On the third transaction, your ECBs will print.
“No Coupon Needed” deals:
6-serving boxes of Cap’n Crunch are $1. (But I bet that is a tiny box!)
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
“Spend $25, Get $10 in ExtraBucks” Sale
Spending $25 on any of the following items will generate $10 in ECBs! Here are your products and matchups:
Banana Boat Sunscreen (4-8oz.) – $7.99
– $1 off – 5/13 SS, 4/22 SS
Hawaiian Tropic Sunscreen (4-8oz.) – $7.99

– $1 off Schick Razor or refill – 4/22 SS
DEAL IDEAS:
I’m liking the Playtex tampons here. The 16-count boxes are included in the “Spend $25” deal too, even though their price isn’t in the ad. At my CVS, these were $5.29. Buy two $7.99 36-40ct. boxes and two $5.29 16ct. boxes (now $26.56.) Use two B1G1F coupons for the small boxes (now $15.98.) Pay $15.98 and get $10 back in ECBs – that’s $5.98 for four boxes of Playtex, or about $1.50 per box
UPDATE: This deal began last week, and many users reported issues with the Playtex not working. The ad does specify that ANY Playtex, Hawaiian Tropic, etc. products are included. The store should be able to manually generate the ECB for you in the event that it does not print.

This one’s only on in-store signage, but who doesn’t want free toilet paper? CVS is selling single rolls of Cottonelle Toilet Paper inside a Jonathan Adler-designed toilet paper holder. It’s a little round canister with geometric designs/prints on it. The canister AND single roll sell for $1.99, with $1.99 back in Extra Care Bucks, making it FREE! This ECB offer runs through 5/26/12.
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Hi- I have $2 back on a $10 purchase of Essential Everyday products instead. Don’t forget the store coupon at Jewel for $1 off any Essential Everyday item too. They have Essential Everyday pasta on sale for $.88 this week at Jewel. I wish I could use the $1 coupon and get free WW spaghetti, but the coupon has to be used on something selling for a least $1 I assume.

Some of the products you have starred are not included on the $3/10 coupon in Centrella ads, like the oil and tomatoes for sure. It’s good on a list of select products and only overlaps a few of the items in the Jewel instant savings deal.

I think you can sweeten the deal with the heluva good dip at Kroger. 5/13 SS (V05 on front) – .75
Jill, did miss the size or would this give me .25 dip?

Buy 6 packages of Finish ($21)
Use six .75 coupons (now $16.50)
Pay $16.50 and get $10 back. $6.50 for six is about $1.08 each.

I’m vacationing in Hawaii & unexpectedly needed girl products. My DH was like- just go buy some- it pained me to think about paying full price let alone Hawaii tourist prices! I said let me check Jill’s site first. There it was on sale with a RR at wags! We went in to make sure the sale was local & it was! Yay! So thanks Jill & Aloha from the Big Island!
hwendt12 says
1. I had the same issue when I went to Hawaii 10 years ago, AND
2. I would SO DO THE SAME EXACT THING!!!!
I even turned to my DH and read the post to him. Then I asked him if it sounded like something that I would do, and he answered with a resounding “YES!!!”
LOL-thanks for making me smile! :)

are 5.5 ounce size boxes, approx 1/3 the size of a regular box. If you really need some Crunch and are in CVS and that’s your only stop, it’s a decent deal compared to $5+ per box (current CVS pricing) of the normal size.

Is there a way to know how long this register reward is going to be active for? It looks like there might be another coupon for Kotex in the 5/20 circulars and with the $3 RR, it would be free. My Walgreens runs out quickly though, so I’d love to still be able to take advantage in a week or two, but I know the RR has been running for awhile.

Hi Jill – Just wondering where to get more information about this catalina. I bought 4 of the Edy’s fruit bars that were on sale 2/$7 used 2 $1 off coupons like you suggested but my $4 cat did not print out nor did the Service Desk have it listed on their print out of catalina deals. I came home to check Coupon Network and there is nothing there either. Do you think this was your Jewel specific? My Jewel said they would honor it if I could bring something back proving it. I think you’re great but I’m not sure they will take a page of your blog as such proof! Thanks :)
