Hello, Super-Couponers, and welcome to another week of great deals! If you’ve been on the homepage of the blog, you’ve likely noticed a few new changes around here. As usual, this week there was another story from the corporate coupon world to take note of… we learned that JC Penney’s CEO compared coupon shoppers to drug users… upon losing $55 million after getting rid of coupons. (Oops. But we predicted that long ago!)

“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

Starting at Jewel-Osco… View weekly ad | Load Jewel Avenu ecoupons | Load SavingStar ecoupons
IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations are in the process of updating their cash registers to a new system. If your store has updated to the new registers, and you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed. Watch your registers.

The least expensive items to use in this deal are the toaster pastries and fruit snacks (6ct., 5.4oz.) are $1 each when you buy 6. The new Jewel-Osco “Fresh Summertime Fun” coupon book has a $1 coupon inside for any EE item. This will give you one free, and you’ll pay $5 for 6, or .83 each. (Note that the Jewel coupons are limited to one per transaction.)
Want more? SavingStar has a Spend $10 on Essential Everyday items, Save $2 ecoupon! Now, this could go one of two ways. If the ecoupon registers on the PRE-instant-savings total, If you’re buying 6 boxes of toaster pastries or fruit snacks, you’re at $9 before the instant-savings is applied. Throw in a 7th box ($1.50 more) and you’re at $10.50. Get your $3 in instant-savings ($7.50) – use $1 store coupon ($6.50) and get $2 back in SavingStar savings (now $5.50.) and that’s $5.50 for 7, or about .79 each.
If the ecoupon works on POST instant, post-ecoupons, it won’t be as good a deal. And, SavingStar ecoupons take some time to show up in your account… so it’s up to you how you’d like to try the deal.

Buy 3 Hellmann’s ($10.50.) Use two $1 coupons. Pay $8.50 and get $3 back. That’s $5.50 for three, or $1.83 each. (Hint: The deal’s better at Walgreens this week.)

Or, buy 3 Suave body wash ($4.50) and three Suave body lotion (now $13.50.) Use B2G1F body wash coupon and B2G1F lotion coupon (now $9.) Pay $9 and get $4 back. That’s $5 for 6 items, or about .83 each.
CVS is running a “Spend $30, Get $10 Gas Card” promo on a variety of items. Seriously, half the ad is included in this deal, including lawnchairs, sun shelters and electric fans. Check all of the picnic stuff out if you need it (it’s on the centerfold of the ad.) On the product side, here’s what looks good to me:
Carefree Pantiliners (20-60ct.) – $3.99, B1G1 50% Off
– .50 off – 5/6 SS
Edy’s Fruit Bars (6ct.) – $3.99
– $1 off – printable, Facebook printable
Palmolive dishwashing liquid (10oz.) – .99
(No coupons… but a cheap filler for putting deals together)
Planters Mixed Nuts, Cashews, or Nutrition (8.5-10.25oz.) – $4.50
– $1 off – 5/20 SS
Popcorn, Indiana bagged popcorn (9-10.5oz.) – $2.50
– $1 off – 3/25 SS
Scott Tissue (18 double rolls) – $7.49
– $1 off – 5/13 SS
Sparkle Paper Towels (8ct.) – $4.99
– $1 off – March All You
Stayfree Maxi Pads (24ct.) – $3.99, B1G1 50% Off
– $1 off – 5/6 SS
Tostitos (9-13oz.) – $3
– $1 off 2 – 4/29 PEPSI
So, let’s see. If you really like Scott Tissue, buy four 18ct. ($29.96) and one Palmolive (now $30.95. The ECB MAY trigger without the Palmolive, so drop it if you’re a risk-taker.) Use four $1 coupons (now $26.95.) Pay $26.95 and get a $10 gas card. That’s $16.95 for four Scott multipacks, or about $4.24 each. With the 18 double rolls, this works out to about .24 per double roll, an excellent price!
Or, here’s a Stayfree/Carefree idea. With these being $3.99, B1G1 50% off, you’re looking at $5.99 for two. I like the $1 Stayfree coupons, but they are limited to 4 like coupons per transaction and also limited to one per person. (Hmm… bring three friends or family members with? Can both of those stipulations really coexist?)
If you have enough coupons, you could buy ten Stayfree ($29.95) and one Palmolive (now $30.94.) You will need to split this into three transactions to abide by the “Limit 4.” So:
Transaction #1: Buy 4 Stayfree ($11.98)
Use four $1 coupons (now $7.98)
Pay $7.98.
Transaction #2: Buy 4 Stayfree ($11.98)
Use four $1 coupons (now $7.98)
Pay $7.98. ($15.96 in deal at this point.)
Transaction #3: Buy 2 Stayfree ($5.99) and one Palmolive (now $6.98)
Use two $1 Stayfree coupons (now $4.98)
Pay $4.98. ($20.94 in the deal at this point.)
Get $10 gas card back. $10.94 for ten Stayfree is $1.09 per package. Whew.
OTHER DEALS: CVS/pharmacy has the Salma Hayek Nuance line on sale Buy 1 Get 1 50% off (and I am a big fan of some of these products..!) I scanned my card at the Coupon Center in the store and noticed other shoppers had left some rather nice coupons laying on top of the machine – a $3 off $10 beauty purchase and $2 off any 2 deodorants.
Well, I scanned my card, and the machine generated both coupons for me too. The $3-off-$10 was a welcome addition to my already-planned Nuance deal… and where do you go when you have a $2-off-2 deodorants that doesn’t have a size restriction?
Why, to the trial and travel size aisle, of course! Speed Stick and Lady Speed Stick are on sale for $1.19, Buy 1 Get 1 50% off. The second Speed Stick rings at .59, and you’ll get both free with the coupon. (I did get the .22 overage to apply to my Nuance purchase too.)
Deals continuing from previous weeks:
LAST WEEK! This one’s only on in-store signage, but who doesn’t want free toilet paper? CVS is selling single rolls of Cottonelle Toilet Paper inside a Jonathan Adler-designed toilet paper holder. It’s a little round canister with geometric designs/prints on it. The canister AND single roll sell for $1.99, with $1.99 back in Extra Care Bucks, making it FREE! This ECB offer runs through 5/26/12.
CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.

Wrapping things up with Walmart…
At my Walmart in Huntley, Sun Drop 2-liters are $1. Use the $1 coupon from 5/6 SS and get them FREE!
Angel Soft Bath Tissue (12 double rolls) are $5.37. Use the .25 coupon from the 5/20 RP, 3/25 RP or a printable. You’ll pay $5.12, which works out to about .42 per roll. (But Scott Tissue is much cheaper per roll at CVS this week…)
Walmart meat deals:
- Boneless skinless chicken breasts are $1.97/lb.
- Pork spareribs are $1.98/lb.
Walmart seafood deals:
- 2lb. bags of frozen tilapia or swai fillets are $6.48 – that’s $3.24/lb., an excellent price!
Walmart produce deals:
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Nor do I usually shop there, but this week if you purchase honey maid graham crackers $2.50, and Hershey bars six pack $3.00, you can get free jet puffed marshmallows (2.19). Use $1 coupon from SS 5/13 for $1 off all three and take them home for $4.50. Not bad if you need some s’mores for this weekend.

The Scott Q in the 4/15 SS is for “4 or more rolls of Scott Naturals….”
The Scott Q in the 5/13 SS (Visonworks on cover) is for “12 or more rolls of Scott Extra Soft Bath Tissue.”
From the picture in the ad, it looks like Extra Soft variety is included in the deal, but not Naturals. So unless the Naturals are marked in the store, only the 5/13 SS Q will work.

Jill, thanks for getting this week’s deals up so fast! Just wanted to note a typo in this CVS deal…It threw me off for a couple minutes, since I didn’t see how the Skippy scenario would work since 4 jars totaled $10-then I realized the $15 was a misprint…
“Here’s a “Buy $10, Get $3” ECBs deal on Skippy, Hellmann’s and Ragu. Buying $15 worth of the following will generate $3 in ECBs! “

Is Jewel brand and Everyday Essential brand treated the same with coupons? I didn’t see any Everyday Essential shredded cheese products at the Cary store. So I was going to purchase the Jewel brand that is $2. However, the coupon in the Spring Savings book is specific to EE and they wouldn’t take it.
Not sure if the EE cheese products are not sold at every store.

Deduct the coupons and get $4 back in ECBs will net a person 6 body washes for $4 or 66 cents each. If a person wants to get the deodorant, like you have written up, it will give them 9 items for $9.75 (after coupon deduction.) Deduct $4 in ECBs and that will net them 9 items for $5.75 or 64 cents each. Sorry, I just caught this today!

FYI- I went to do 4 rounds of this last night (2×2 chips ahoy and 2×2 teddy grahams) The deal is working ONLY with the Chips Ahoy, NOT the Teddy Grahams. My cashier was nice enough and gave me the credit for the one we TRIED with the Teddy Grahams, but I was not comfortable with doing that again. I know it’s probably over now, but just thought I’d pass it on. The ad IS a little confusing and my cashier agreed, that’s why he credited me.
