Hope everyone had a fantastic Memorial Day weekend! We had a great weekend planting our garden (the least expensive way to get fresh produce!) and grilling out — those $2.98 barbecue ribs, .19 ears of corn, .25 hot dogs and .38 hot dog buns made for a fabulously inexpensive cookout! (Of course, we washed it all down with delicious Kosher Cokes..!)
Now, it’s deal time! As always, a big welcome to our Super-Couponers from this past week’s classes in Niles, Lockport and Brookfield!
If you’re new to the site, take a quick minute to read Using this site and bring yourself up to speed on all the coupon lingo and abbreviations. Unless otherwise noted, grocery store deals run through Wednesday of this week, and the pharmacy deals run through Saturday. And, if you’re new to couponing in general, check out my Super-Couponing website for a list of FREE coupon classes and instructions on how to start using coupons effectively!
If you’re new to couponing, you may have panicked when you saw that this weekend’s Sunday paper… had NO coupons in it. Why? We never have coupons over holiday weekends. Why? Because of the way most people use coupons. The great majority of people use coupons the week they get them… and statistically, the week after a holiday is a slow week for grocery stores. Why? Because of all the leftovers..! Truly. People buy big before holidays, then eat leftovers for days… and the coupon redemption rate of inserts in holiday weeks, statistically, is very low, because people don’t shop much the week of a holiday. So advertisers essentially don’t “waste their time” printing up coupons in weeks that less people use them.
Of course, if you’re reading this, you know that we save ALL our coupon inserts, each and every week… so even on non-coupon weeks, we’ve got lots of coupons to play with!
I have to say that each week as I prepare to write up the deals, I’m so impressed by how many of you are already jumping on them days ahead of time. I’m often asked why Tuesdays, when many of our deals begin on Sundays… and the answer is, for several reasons. One, I like to spend Sunday with my family and Monday shopping the deals so that I can make sure everything’s working well before I write it up. But two… I’ve always intended my Deals page to be a tool. When you’re new, it helps so much to have everything spelled out in an easy-to-follow format. But as you learn the ropes and become better at spotting deals, you’ll find that you won’t need the blog as much because you want to get a jump on things. And that’s when you know you’re on your way to your couponing “black belt!”
So, let’s start off at Jewel with some deals spotted and posted by YOU, my forum readers!
BlueDemon20 spotted this great deal on Taco Bell meal kits. These kits include taco shells, seasoning packet, and salsa. They’re on sale for $2.50. Avenu‘s got .75 off, and stack this with the $1 Taco Bell meal kit coupon from the June issue of All You*, and you’re taking the meal kit home for just .75! (Hey, the seasoning packet alone usually costs that much.)
* Have you heard of All You? All You is a coupon-filled magazine! It sells for $2.49 an issue at Walmart (they have an exclusive newsstand distribution for it) or you can subscribe online for less. It’s a very nice magazine, but truthfully, I rarely get around to reading it… because I’m getting it for the coupons! The current issue has over $110 worth of coupons inside — really! And, it has an alphabetical index of all the products, coupons, values, and pages they appear on. Yep, what’s not to love about that? So, when deals feature All You coupons, I post them here too :)
Forum reader Teresa noticed that Chinet Casual paper plates are on sale for $2.50. Use the $2 coupon from 5/3 SS and take these home for just .50! There’s a $1 coupon in the same insert if you want more plates (albeit at a slightly higher price)… and there’s also a blinkie dispenser in front of the plates with $1 coupons too!
Now, if you go for the Chinet paper bowls, look for peelies on the packages for a free bottle of Wish-Bone salad dressing when you buy the bowls! With the $2 coupon above, you’ll pay .50 for the package of paper bowls AND a free bottle of salad dressing! (As if we NEED more free salad dressing after last week’s deals on it… ha!)
Forum reader Shoptiludrop spotted a nice deal on Weber Grill Creations (packets of marinade for grilled meats.) They’re on sale for .99, B1G1F. Use the .50 coupon from 5/17 SS and take 2 home for .49, or about a quarter each! But if you get multiple inserts, use 2 of these coupons (a great trick for B1G1F sales) and you’ll save .50 on each packet… making both FREE!
Now, Shoptiludrop has a great tip… head on over to the spice aisle, where you may find tearpads for $1 off any 2 Weber Grill Creations. With the tearpad coupon, you’ll take 2 home for FREE!
Still at Jewel, forum reader Arstella posted a great deal on milk! (And how often is it that we see deals on milk? Not often!) Half-gallons of Dean’s Over the Moon milk cost $2.41-$2.89 at Jewel (prices range depending on store.) There are $1 coupons for Over the Moon in 3/1 SS and 5/17 SS. The bonus? For each carton you buy, you’ll get a .50 Catalina for your next shopping trip! (White milk varieties only, not chocolate.) This brings the price of your milk down to .91-$1.39. (Yes, it was on sale for $2.50 earlier in the week, but even at the regular price, this is a good deal.)
Many of you know my family drinks organic milk, primarily to avoid the bovine growth hormone in regular milk, but Over the Moon is a BGH-free milk as well, and at this price, we figured we’d try it! I’m NOT a fan of 1% or fat-free milk, but OTM guarantees you won’t be able to tell the difference between whole milk and their low fat varieties — if you can, they actually offer you a money-back guarantee on the carton! And I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised at how good and creamy this 1% was — I honestly could not tell the difference. Yum!
AND… if you’ve done the Jewel Preferred Card update (and if you haven’t, you should… the coupon book you get is FILLED with great stuff!) I’ve got another bonus to add to the milk deal. The book also contains a coupon for a free bottle of Swiss Tea when you buy any gallon of Dean’s milk. If you buy 2 cartons of this, you’ll have purchased a gallon… and you can get yourself a free bottle of tea too! (The tea is near the orange juice, not near the other teas. I hunted around so you don’t have to! :)
Note that the .50 Catalina deal on Over the Moon is scheduled to run through mid-June, so we’ve got lots of time to enjoy cheap(er) milk!
Still at Jewel, there’s a great deal on Knorr side dishes! These are pasta and rice side dishes that come in a variety of flavors and types. Selected Knorr side dishes are on sale for $1.25 each, and if you buy 10, you will get a $5 instant savings on any fresh chicken! (Note that you must buy 10 of the $1.25 varieties – the more expensive kinds do not count toward the chicken deal.) You can buy chicken pieces or breasts, sliced deli chicken, a rotisserie chicken… the possibilities are endless! Of course, we also want to use coupons on the Knorr too… and the ones you need are:
4/5 UN – .75 off 2
5/17 RP .50 off 2
With one of each of these coupons, you’ll pay $11.25 for TEN side dishes AND $5 worth of fresh chicken! If you have multiple coupons/inserts, you can really do well on this deal. (Remember, the chicken must be purchased at the same time as the Knorr sides.)
Want to sweeten the deal further? If you’ve attended one of my coupon classes recently, you may have picked up some coupons for Knorr! (Yes, I am currently giving coupons away in class… which I LOVE to do! It’s like a coupon feeding frenzy when class ends :) One of the coupons I’ve had in class is $2.50 off fresh meats when you buy any 5 Knorr side dishes. OH YES… you can see how well this might work into the deal. With two of these coupons, you will save another $5 on the meat (even though it’s already free with the instant discount!) Then, you’ll pay $6.25 for ten side dishes and $5 worth of chicken!
I’ve heard these coupons have been spotted on tearpads at Meijer and Woodmans recently too — you never know exactly where you might find them, but if you’re out and about and see them at another store, take a few to use with this deal!
Over at Dominick’s, the cheapest ribs deal of the year continues… They’ve got 26-ounce slabs of Signature Cafe St. Louis-Style Smokehouse Pork Red Ribs on sale for $6.99, or 2 for $12.98.
Print 2 $2 coupons for Signature Cafe ribs! If you buy 2 with 2 coupons, you’ll pay $8.98 for 52 ounces of ribs. That is a steal! :)
UPDATE: All month, these coupons have been on Dominicks.com with a “1 per purchase” statement – several blog readers have written to say that the coupons they’ve printed today say “1 per customer.” If yours state the latter, then you will only be able to use one, and the deal won’t be nearly as cheap. Just an FYI.
If you are a charcoal griller, this deal is about to get even sweeter. 18lb. bags of Kingsford charcoal are $7.99 at Doms. Print this Gather Round the Grill $6 off Pork when you buy Kingsford coupon. That will take another $6 off the ribs, netting you 2 slabs of delicious ribs and a big bag of charcoal for $10.97!
Note that the Gather Round the Grill coupon also requires the purchase of one additional item (listed on coupons.) The best filler item? KC Masterpiece barbecue sauce… because 5/10 RP has a coupon for “Buy 1 Kingsford Charcoal, Get 1 KC Masterpiece Barbecue Sauce FREE!” So you’ll get free barbecue sauce with this too!
Or, throw in a pack of Wet Ones wipes (find them near the paper plates/napkins – around $1 in price.) Wet Ones also qualify as an additional item for this $6 coupon, and there are $1 printables at https://wetones.com/wo_couponregistration.asp :) Free fillers are ALWAYS good :)
Any way you look at it, it’s a GREAT deal! Note though that the $2 Dominick’s ribs coupons have NOT been scanning automatically at the register. Something is coded wrong with the barcode on the coupon — it’s not our fault. When it beeps, the cashier will have to approve it. We have an entire discussion going on over here about the ribs deal for more info… I have been loving this sale because how often do we get an opportunity to stock up on RIBS? (And get enough charcoal to last an entire summer?)
And, while you’re at it, if you’re a charcoal griller, you may want to bookmark that Gather Round the Grill coupon.. It doesn’t expire until December 2009 and lends itself very nicely to many other deals on pork! Check out this great scenario that the again, always deal-savvy BlueDemon20 posted on pork tenderloins with this coupon too!
Heading to the pharmacies, we’ve got good deals on sunblock at both Wags and CVS, just in time for summer…
Starting at Walgreens, Banana Boat sunscreens are B1G1F $9.99. 5/3 SS has a $1 coupon, but www.bananaboat.com has $2 printables. With a $2 coupon, you’ll pay $7.99 for 2. Note that some Walgreens will no longer allow you to use 2 coupons on a B1G1F sale. If your store does allow it, with two $2 coupons, you’ll pay $5.99 for both!
Still at Wags, Hawaiian Tropic sunscreens are also B1G1F, $10.49. 5/3 SS has a $1 coupon, and forum reader Doodlebug1970 noted that www.hawaiiantropic.com also has $2 printables. With 1 $2 coupon, pay $8.49 for two, or if you store allows two $2 coupons, pay $6.49 for two!
Still at Walgreens, forum readers Elvisgirl and KensBaby93 spotted a good deal on Dixie paper plates and napkins! The plates are $3.79, B1G1F. Use the .50 coupon from 5/10 RP and pay $3.29 for 2. If your Wags allows you to use 2 coupons on a B1G1F, also use the .35 from 3/15 RP and pay $2.94 for both.
Now, here’s where it gets REALLY fun… The May All You has a coupon for Buy 2 Dixie paper plates, get Dixie napkins FREE (p. 144.) So you can add a free pack of napkins to this… but guess what? The Dixie napkins are ALSO B1G1F! When you use a coupon for a free item during a sale in which the same item is also B1G1F… you get TWO for free.
So now, we’re down to $2.94 for 2 packages of plates AND 2 packages of napkins! Just in time for grilling season!
And, it wouldn’t be a Walgreens wrap-up without some free and cheap stuff… Let’s take home some cheap dental floss and a toothbrush! Reach Ultraclean floss and toothbrushes are $2.50 each. Buy one of each and get a $3 Register Reward.
Use the B1G1F Reach Toothbrush from 4/26 RP – buy 2 toothbrushes, pay $2.50 and get a $3 RR! Or, use the $1.50 off 2 Reach Floss and/or Reach Toothbrush from 3/15 SS. Pay $3.50 for both and get a $3 RR back!
And, we can’t very well brush our teeth without free toothpaste, so let’s get some of that too… Colgate Total toothpaste is on sale for $2.49 with a $1.50 RR. With the $1 coupon from 5/10 SS or April All You (p. 51) you’ll pay $1.49 and get $1.50 back, making your toothpaste FREE!
Over at CVS, you can get cheap sunscreen too… Neutrogena sunscreen is a great deal this week, because as forum reader MathHurts noted, CVS will pay you to take it home! Buy any 2 featured (check store/ad for items) Neutrogena sunscreens and get $10 in ECBs. Many of these sunscreens are around $7.99 each, but one is a moneymaker… the $1.99 1 oz. tubes of Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 55. Buy 2 at $1.99 – pay $3.98 and get $10 back in ECBs! It’s a $6.02 moneymaker! In my Super-Couponing classes, I often stress that buying the smaller size of something can be the best deal… and this is a perfect example of that!
For my Kroger shoppers (yes, I have heard your many requests for some Kroger deals! My Rockford readers love their Hilander store, and there are a few goodies this week…
Weber Grill Creations are a steal at Hilander/Kroger too. They’re $1 each, and with the same .50 coupon noted above (5/17 SS) the coupon will double to $1, making these FREE…
Quaker Quakes rice snacks are also $1, and there are $1 coupons in 3/29 RP for any Quaker rice product. These will be FREE too…
And, some varieties of Nature Made vitamins are $3.79, B1G1F. Kroger is one of those stores that lets you “split” a B1G1F sale. If you only buy one, you get it for half the price of the B1G1F price. (sweet!) With a $1 coupon from 2/1 SS or February All You (p. 116) you will pay .89 for the bottle. Of course, if you have both these coupons, you can buy 2 and each will cost you .89! The same deal is running on Sundown vitamin supplements, and 4/19 RP and 5/17 RP have $1 coupons too… or use this $3 off 2 printable to get 2 for .79, or about .40 each!
Sunscreen’s cheap here too this week. Banana Boat is $6.99, B1G1F, and with two $2 coupons from www.bananaboat.com, you’ll take home 2 for $2.99, or about $1.50 each!
Wrapping things up at Hilander/Kroger… Green Giant frozen vegetables are $1. Use the .50 off 2 coupon from 4/5 SS, which will double to $1, and take home TWO for $1, or .50 each!
Lastly, a special thanks again to all my forum members who posted super deals this week!To BlueDemon20, Teresa, Shoptilupdrop, Arstella, Doodlebug1970, Elvisgirl, KensBaby93 and MathHurts… I want to reward each of you with some $2.50 off meat when you buy 5 KNORR coupons to use this week at Jewel! If your screen name was listed above, email me at jill@supercouponing.com from the email address you used to register for the blog and let me know where to mail these :) The sooner you let me know where to send them, I’ll drop them in the mail… and I’ll throw in some nice bonus coupons for you all for sharing these great deals with everyone! At the Dominicks near the produce there were some rebate forms from Wishbone – I’ll try to dig mine out, but if you remember grabbing one I think you had to “purchase” 2 bottles of Wishbone dressing or some other Wishbone products listed in order to mail in for a $1 off meat or produce coupon. It was a manufacturer’s deal, so you could use the free Wishbone from Jewel towards this. I don’t know, however, how to get more of the little forms which just looked like q’s.

finding the Neutrogena 1 oz. sizes? Went to 4 CVSs & I couldn’t find them…Not sure if I’m overlooking them or if they aren’t there! Thanks!
bluedemon20 says
Maybe it was a just a fluke, but when I shopped at Wags on Sunday, the two B1G1 items I bought did not take off the second item–make sure you’re paying attention. Another blogger on here noted their sunscreen did not take off the second B1G1F; I bought Banana Boat–didn’t take it off–and Doritos–did not take 2nd bag off.
Just be on the lookout–the second item of the B1G1F usually comes off after the cashier hits “total,” FYI.

I looked for a CVS coupon policy and didn’t see one. Does anyone know if you can roll ECB’s at CVS?

The Chicago/Indy stores have Knorr side dishes on sale for $1 each. There is also a MealBox Q for $1/4. I bought 20 sides, used 5 MBQ’s and paid $15 for the sides. (Would have been the same at Jewel…$1.25 each x 20 = $25.00 -$10 instant savings = $15.) I had other shopping to do at Meijer though, so it was nice to not have to make 2 stops. I also used 4 of the buy 5 Knorr sides save $2.50 on meat Qs that Jill mentioned and paid for most of my sides with overage from my salad dressing purchase($1 MBQ + $1.50/1 man. Q for each $1.58 bottle of Kraft salad dressing). Fun, fun, fun!!
glamorousmunky says
I just did the deal bluedemon posted with the hormel pork, charcoal and wet ones and to my surprise the wet ones rang up $.79. So with the $1 Q I printed from Jill’s link above, the wet ones ended up a money maker of $.21 toward my charcoal and pork. Thanks for the post bluedemon and thanks for the coupon Jill!

Note that the $1 Banana Boat coupon mentioned above (5/3 SS) is good on ANY size Banana Boat sunscreen.

Hello,
While doing my shopping yesterday, i noticed that Wild Harvest waffles are on sale BOGO $3.39. There are $1 coupons on their website for waffles, I took 2 boxes for $1.39 (or .69 each box) after coupons. Not a bad deal for organic waffles.
Thanks for all the deals Jill!

I was at the Jewel this afternoon and neither the Taco Bell dinners or the Deans Over the Moon milk was on sale. Are the sales different for select areas?

Tried the Dixie deal at WAGS earlier today. Price came out to be $4.93 (with tax) for 2 plates & 2 napkins, instead of $2.94. Used 2 – .50 Qs on dixie plates and 1 buy 2 plates get one napkin free. Q However, the buy 2 dixie plates get 1 napkin free coupon from the All You magazine states “value up to 1.93”. The napkins are $3.79 so you don’t get the full price.

I also picked up a bunch of Cool Whip (for my summer pies and fruit “salads”). Jewel has them 10/$10, Coupons.com recently had $1 off 2 printables, bringing them down to 50 cents each!

Thanks for the noodle post Jill! I bought 20 Knorr noodles and 2 pkgs of chicken breast at $6.72 each.
I used 10 .50/2 Knorr coupons and a Jewel BOGO chicken breast coupon.
So I paid $6.72 x 2= $13.44
$1.25 x 20 = $25
Less BOGO chicken $6.72
Less $5.00 in Knorr coupons
Less $10.00 instant savings on chicken
Total paid $16.72 for 3 pretty inexpensive dinners, add a salad and call them to the table. Plus I have a lot of noodles for my stockpile, my kids love these noodles!
Thanks again for the deal!

The hard shell taco meal kits did not have a sale price on them. I also did not see them in the flyer from last week. Are they in the Sunday sales flyer? Also, I could not find the soft shell taco versions of these kits. Are they in the refridgerated section? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

hi I have a question I bought 2 toothbrushes used the buy one get one free coupon bought 2 dental floss used the 1.50 off coupon and only got one 3.00 rr. What did I do wrong.

I am curious as to why you say sales start on Sunday. The sales for Dominicks, Jewel, and Meijer start on Thursday thru the following Wednesday. The flyers are in the Wednesday papers. Are you talking about additional sales in addition to the regular sales? Thanks.
lucyrevenge says
I am not sure what the current price at my local Jewel right now, but just a heads up there is a $1/1 Taco Bell Dinner Kit IP on smartsource right now. Use the zip code 32801 & you will get it. It was on the 4th page for me, and I was able to print two of them. Hopefully when I go to Jewel tomorrow these will still on sale so I can get some more for free. Also, just another note I noticed these kits were $1.99 at my local Kmart when I went for the last doubling event. The ones I just printed do not expire until 6/27/09 & there are rumblings of another event coming mid to late June in which case these would be free then. :)
