Hello, Super-Couponers! Happy Memorial Day and welcome to another week of great deals! Today I’m thinking of all of our Armed Forces fighting for our freedom, as well as the veterans who have served and those who have given their lives for our country. And, as I write this, I’m on a wonderful three-generation camping trip with my family — it’s been a fun few days of cooking over a fire, hiking, fishing, impromptu grandparents/grandchildren water fights and, of course… aircard wi-fi in the woods!

“Deals of the Week” is written assuming you are using the inserts from the Chicago Tribune (or, if reading from outside Chicagoland, the largest newspaper serving your market area. That largest paper has the most, highest-value coupons. The content, coupons, and dollar amounts of the coupons in the RedPlum and SmartSource inserts differs by paper, so to coupon effectively, it’s best to subscribe to the paper that contains the highest-value coupons.)
They are now offering discount subscription codes for MULTIPLE newspapers to the same address! (Link opens in new window.)

IMPORTANT JEWEL-OSCO NOTE: All Jewel locations are in the process of updating their cash registers to a new system. If your store has updated to the new registers, and you are using TWO coupons on a Buy One, Get One Free sale, the register is currently scanning the second coupon as $0.00. The register will not beep and you will have no way of knowing your coupon’s value did not get recognized unless you are watching closely. Jewel is working on a solution to this problem and I have a response from corporate here indicating that their two-coupons-on-a-B1G1F policy has NOT changed. Watch your registers.

I’m skipping the “Spend $10, Get $3 or Spend $15, Get $5” because it’s after coupons, and the prices are kind of high on most of these things. I was hoping the Suave lotions would be included (so we could use the B2G1F coupons that are current) but… they’re not. Those are looking better for Walgreens this week though…

Note to Safeway shoppers reading from outside Chicagoland: In Chicago, Dominick’s does not double coupons (as other Safeway stores do) – if your store doubles, you’ll do even better with many of these deals. Heading to Walgreens (View weekly ad)…
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE WALGREENS AD: Walgreens is no longer putting its entire ad in the paper newspaper version. There are now online-only ad pages that you can look at via this link: View weekly ad
When applicable, I will be noting the online-ad-only deals with the “Bonus Buys” icon shown at right. This is the same icon Walgreens is also using in their online-only ad pages.
Tecnu First Aid Gel (2oz.) is on sale for $7. Buy it and get $7 in Register Rewards, making it FREE!

(And, as pretty much every Walgreens in town is going to be selling out of Ecotrin this week, why not take the Wags ad to Walmart? You won’t get the Register Rewards, BUT they can match the $1.50 price for you, you can use your $1.50 coupon, and you’ll still get it free. Sweet!)

Now, to really make this deal shine (no sun-pun intended) you’ll need to look for a store coupon book called “Skin Care Guide.” (It’s got a pink horizontal stripe on the cover with a photo of a woman applying sunscreen.) Inside, you’ll find a $1 store coupon for Coppertone Sport.
Ready to put the deal together? Grab two Coppertone sport ($19.58.) Use your $3-off-2 manufacturer coupon and your $1 store coupon. The store coupon will take a dollar off for each bottle, leaving you paying $14.58. You’ll get $10 back in RRs, making that $4.58 for two, or $2.29 each!

Now we’re at $11. Use the B2G1F coupon (now $8.) Pay $8 and get $3 back. That’s $5 for 4 items, or $1.25 each.

CVS Tips: Remember to always scan your CVS card at the Coupon Center scanner in the store — it prints bonus coupons for you!
And, if you haven’t already, make sure your CVS ExtraCare card is registered for the CVS Beauty Club before you do any deals involving beauty products. It gives you $5 in ECBs for every $50 you spend on beauty products, and it is cumulative, meaning you don’t have to spend $50 in one trip. It keeps track for you and will automatically print ECBs on your next visit to the store when you reach a $50 threshold.
Jewel-Osco | Dominick’s (Safeway) | Meijer | Kroger | Hilander (Schnucks) | Target | Walgreens | CVS | Walmart | Free |
Wrapping things up with Walmart…
At my Walmart in Huntley, Sun Drop 2-liters are $1. Use the $1 coupon from 5/6 SS and get them FREE!
Policies to know:
- Walmart will price match any competitor’s advertised price. Bring the other store’s flyers with you to the store. While the policy doesn’t require this, it does speed the price-matching along.
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept other store’s STORE coupons with an actual price listed on them. For example, a Dominick’s store coupon advertising “.99 Ragu Pasta Sauce” would be accepted. A Walgreens store coupon advertising “2/$1 Morton’s Salt” would be accepted. (A Target store coupon for “$2.50 off Huggies” would not, because it does not show the actual selling price of the item.)
- With the new coupon policy, Walmart will also accept competitor’s Catalina manufacturer coupons. You can get a Catalina for $1 off Snuggle and use it at Walmart.
- Walmart’s new coupon policy specifically addresses coupon overage. It says “Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.”
I would print a copy and carry a copy of the coupon policy with you if you anticipate any issues.
I do not blog Walmart deals each week unless there is a weekly ad with noteworthy deals. Every store location’s regular prices are different, and Walmart does not issue a weekly ad every week. I’ve listed Walmart at the end of each week’s Deals writeup, because if you see any deals above that you want, you’ll likely also be able to do them at Walmart.

As always, these deals are guidelines for shopping. I can make no guarantee that these items will be on sale, in stock, or available at your area store. I can also not guarantee your Catalinas will print, your cashier will smile at you while you check out, or that your shopping cart won’t have a broken wheel. But I CAN teach you how to save money :)
And, also, as always, a huge thanks to the many readers who posted and emailed deals that made it into today’s Deals of the Week! We’re all in this together, and I sincerely appreciate everyone who spots and passes along good deals that we can all enjoy :) Thank you… to YOU!
* All You magazine: If you like coupons, you will probably really enjoy it. It’s an inexpensive magazine ($2.49 an issue) that is absolutely filled with coupons each month — typically $50-$100 worth per issue! Subscribing via the pink banner on the right drops the price to $1.67 per issue. Depending on the values, if you use 2 or 3 coupons alone from each issue, you’ve recouped the cost of the magazine, and you’re on your way to even bigger savings.)

Thank you so much for taking the time out of your weekend to do this for us. Does your new look include not including the current week’s date to click-on in the right hand column of your web page? If so, I need to change what I am telling my friends and acquaintances about how to access your blog information.

According to Target’s policy (“If a Manufacturer BOGO coupon is used, one additional Target coupon may be used on the first item.”) it would seem that we could also apply one of the recent Target Qs (home mailer and another I have with a 6/9 exp that I don’t know which paper it was from :-( ) Before I stock up, I just wanted to check with The Maven and hopefully make for an even sweeter deal. How’d I do Jill???

Jill, thank you so much for you hard work especially when you give up your time during holidays.
I’m so happy there are coupons for Coke/Pepsi. I actually put the circulars in the recycling bin and I had to go through it to find them! I normally don’t shop at the stores that have the coupons so I dismiss the circulars. I know better now!!!

Please tell me where the $2 off 3 manufacturer coupon is that is listed under the “All Charmin Deal” at Target. I only see $.25 coupons for Charmin from 4/29 PG and 5/13 PG. Coupon Tom doesn’t list any others either. Help! Thanks!!

If you recently purchased a box of Align with the Q’s inside, there are $1 Q’s for Charmin& Bounty.
Also, I recently received a Q booklet from P&G that has Q’s for some of this stuff – $1 for Tide, Downy, 2x Bounty, $0.75 for Bounce and there was a Charmin Q, but I used it already& can’t remember value.
Look through your various Q stashes :)

Walmart also carries the Wet N Wild product and many are under $1 – I picked up 2 lipsticks last week that were both under $1 and if I had more coupons, would have picked up some nail polish for under $1 too.

Ecotrin is now out of stock at my Walgreens. Would it be better for me to get a raincheck hoping the Catalina is still running next week or just have Walmart price match for free with no Catalina?
