It’s another fantastic week of deals! A big welcome to the new couponers joining us from this past week’s Super-Couponing classes in Woodstock, Melrose Park, McHenry and Wheaton!
First off, my favorite store, Jewel, has so many deals this week that I don’t know where to start! But I’ll kick it off with their great General Mills Buy-10 deal. When you buy 10 participating General Mills items, you will get $15 in Catalina coupons back for use on your next shopping trip — PLUS a Catalina coupon for a free gallon of milk!
There are a lot of coupons to match up to this deal, and you definitely want to use coupons, because this deal (and the next one I’ll tell you about) work on your dollar total BEFORE coupons! If you’re saving your coupons from the newspaper each week (which you should be! Read “Using this Site” for more info) then you’ll be ready to save big on these deals…
This is a great deal! (Here’s the ad in the online flyer for more details.) There’s a long list of participating items, but here are some possibilities. A good portion of the following matchup list comes from Hot Coupon World, who has been all over this deal!
Betty Crocker fruit snacks
$1/3 or $0.50/2 from 10/5 GM
Chex Mix bars
$1.25 off Chex Mix Bars

here
$0.50 off Whole Grain Total
So what does this mean? While there are only a few items shown in the Jewel ad, if you’ve been doing these deals for a while, you know that there are always a lot more items in the deal than are advertised. Here’s a list of all the items that will work with this deal, again from Hot Coupon World. You can mix and match however you’d like and for every 10 items you buy, you’ll get $15 back, plus a free gallon of milk. So here’s something you could do:
Buy 8 boxes Chex Mix bars ($3 each)
Buy 2 boxes GM fruit snacks ($2.50 each) – pre coupon total $29.00
Use 2 $1.25 coupons, 2 $1.00 coupons, and 4 60-cent coupons for Chex Mix bars
Use 50 cent off 2 coupon for fruit snacks
Pay $21.60… and get $15 back, plus a Catalina for free milk ($4.50 value) – making the cost of your 10 items just $6.60, or about 66 cents a box!
Remember, you can mix and match other General Mills items from the promo in with this too — but that’s a very cheap way to do the deal :)
The General Mills deal runs through Wednesday, Nov. 19.
The ConAgra deal is back at Jewel too! This is another fantastic Catalina deal where you spend $20 on participating items and get a $10 Catalina back to use on your next shopping trip! Some of the included items were in the Thursday flyer, and a longer list appeared in this week’s Jewel Spotlight magazine.
So, here are your coupon matchups for the current ConAgra deal:
$0.75 off Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers 10-26 SS
Healthy Choice frozen meals, buy 5 get one free (up to $3) 10-19 SS
$1.00 off Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers 10-26 SS
75 cents off 3 Healthy Choice Soups Can or Micro Bowl 10-26 SS
75 cents off 2 Parkay – 11/16 SS
40 cents off 2 Hunts – 9/21 SS
50 cents off Reddi-Wip – 11/16 SS
$1 off Reddi-Wip – December All You
35 cents off Pam – 11/16 SS
30 cents off Swiss Miss – 11/16 SS
50 cents off Swiss Miss – December All You
40 cents off Orville Redenbacher – 10/12 SS
But are you really ready to have some fun? For my advanced couponers who have been with me for a while (or new ones who don’t mind taking a chance on saving even more money!) here’s the best part of this $10/$20 Jewel deal…
As many of you will remember from past deals (just like the General Mills one above) there are usually other items included in the deal that aren’t shown in the ad. (There’s a full list posted in my blog forum of included items.) And sometimes these Catalina deals (where you get Catalina coupons for your next purchase) work on the Preferred card prices, and others work on the regular, non-Preferred card prices.
Despite what this week’s ad says, the prices in this deal are operating on the regular price. So if an item is $2.69 regular price, but the Preferred sale price is $1, the $2.69 is what you’re counting to get to $20. You will still use your Preferred card for this deal, but you will be adding the regular non-Preferred prices to get to $20.
Why do we do this? When a Catalina deal is figured on the regular prices, we often need to buy less items to reach that $20 mark. And this is one of those deals.
If you’ve never done a Catalina deal, PLEASE read this article before you start, paying particular attention to the “What do I do if a Catalina doesn’t print?” section.
If you choose to work this deal off shelf prices and for some reason it does not print the $10 Catalina coupon at the end of your transaction, you will really have no recourse to go back to the service counter and ask for it. These deals are best thought of as the “slot machines” of couponing… and yet, when they work, they are beautiful. (If you want to see a fantastic Catalina deal in action, watch my ABC appearance, where I went shopping with anchor Judy Hsu. So many Catalinas printed that I was afraid the machine would run out of paper!)
Anyway, understand that you’re taking a small chance when you do these deals… but they do pay off big. And unlike a slot machine, you will win more often than you’ll lose.
Want an example of what you can do? You can mix and match any of the items included in the deal up to a $20 value. Or, you can buy quantities of the same item:
Buy 9 $1 Swiss Miss hot cocoa for $9 (actually, $8.70 if you use the coupon above) and get a $10 Catalina. Free hot cocoa!
Buy 13 Hunt’s Snack Pack pudding cups for $13 and get a $10 Catalina. Cheap pudding!
Buy 3 bottles of Wesson oil for $11.97 and get a $10 Catalina. Cheap cooking oil!
Buy 6 Healthy Choice frozen dinners – use the Buy 5, get 1 free coupon listed above. Pay $12.50 and get a $10 Catalina. $2.50 for 6 dinners? That’s CHEAP!
Buy 12 cans Hunt’s diced tomatoes for $12 – use .40 coupon, pay $11.60 and get a $10 Catalina. Cheap tomatoes!
(Note: Watch the regular price here – some Jewels may have these priced higher than $1.80/regular price. If so, you may need to add another can to get over the $20 mark.)
And the very best part of Catalina deals? “Rolling” the Catalina coupons to the next deal. After you do your deal and get $10 back in Catalinas, use that $10 to buy your next group of items… and get $10 MORE in Catalinas! These sales are great opportunities to stock up… and build that “stockpile” I talk about in my classes too. And, while you’re out having lots of fun stocking up, I would love it if you remember your local food pantry too. These deals make it VERY easy to pass along some food to people that really need it… at very little out of pocket. And trust me, you’ll feel great doing so :)
Again, if you are NEW at couponing, you may not want to take this extra little “leap of faith” in working the deal this way. If you buy $20 of sale priced items in the ad, you will still get your $10 back, saving half your money. Remember, if for some reason your Catalinas don’t print, you will have no real recourse other than to return the items for a refund. Also, remember you can only get ONE $10 Catalina per transaction. Buying $40 worth of food will NOT give you $20 in Catalinas.
This deal runs through Wednesday, Nov. 19!
Additionally, some Jewel locations are also running a Holiday Bucks promotion. If your store is participating, for each $25 you spend, you’ll get a $1 Holiday Buck Catalina, up to 4 per transaction. This is over and above the money in Catalinas you’ll get from the deal too! With both of these Catalinas, remember to WAIT at the register for the Catalina coupons to print! They print v-e-r-y s-l-o-w at the end of the transaction, a few seconds after the receipt prints. Don’t leave without your free money :)
AND… many of my blog readers have been busy getting the jump on this deal! Read what they’ve been up to in the Forum to get more shopping trip ideas :)
Lastly, can you combine this deal with the GM deal? YES! You can do them in the same transaction, and you’ll get $15 in Catalinas, $10 in Catalinas, plus the Catalina for free milk. Wow!
As if there weren’t enough going on at Jewel this week (do you see why time and time again, Jewel has rightfully earned the title of favorite store for me?) there’s even more going on.
Star Vinegar is on sale for $1.00 and there’s a coupon in this past Sunday’s paper (11/16 SS) for $1.00 off Star Vinegar. It’s free! And what do you do with free vinegar? Well, it comes in all sorts of yummy flavors, like red wine garlic, white rice vinegar, and other varieties. It’s great for marinades and great for stir-frys… and again, it is FREE!
Lee Iacocca’s Olivio spreadable butter is also on sale this week (and yes, that is the name of it… I threw this one in this week because not only is it a good price, but Johnny B will likely snicker at the thought of the former Chrysler chairman starting his own line of butter if I mention this on the radio..! Seriously – just try to read his quote on the butter’s website without giggling!)
Anyway, all joking aside, Olivio is on sale $3.29, buy 1 get 1 free, which is a great price for spreadable butter! The 9/21 SS insert has a 55-cent off coupon, so you’ll pay just $2.74 for two. And, if by chance you get 2 papers or have two of this coupon, remember that you can use 2 coupons in a B1G1F sale – one for each item. With 2 coupons, you’ll pay just $2.19 for 2!
AND… if you didn’t buy a turkey for Thanksgiving yet, there is a coupon in the front (newspaper, not inserts) section of Sunday’s Chicago Tribune for $7 off a turkey with a $30 grocery purchase. (That’s pre-coupons, again, so if you did General Mills and Conagra in the same trip, you’d be well over that $30 mark and could bring your turkey price down too! I love combining deals!
Continuing the turkey talk, Meijer also has a promo going where they’ll give you $9 off a turkey with a $20 grocery purchase. There are turkey deals everywhere you look!
It’s also worth noting that this is one of the cheapest times of the year to buy Thanksgiving-type foods like canned pie fillings, cranberry sauce, stuffing mixes, baking supplies, and many other things that fall into this category. If you like them, you may want to stock up while the prices are low.
Web freebies:
FREE Del Monte No Salt Added Diced Tomatoes – if you haven’t registered with Del Monte for coupons before, use this link to register first.
FREE Huggies Happy Baby gift pack – contains a sampling of Huggies products, including diapers, wipes, baby washes and coupons. You must, of course, let them know you are pregnant to receive this. :)
Do you like these deals? Want to learn how to get deals like this on almost EVERYTHING that you buy? Attend one of my Super-Couponing classes (they’re FREE!) and learn all the tricks of the trade. You’ll be slashing your bills in no time!

I just did the GM deal…if you’ve got your 10 bucks from the ConAgra deal, it works even better. I bought:
6 boxes of Chex Mix Bars (with six .50 cents coupons)
4 boxes of fruit snacks (with two .50 cents/2 coupons)
Total was 24.49-10.00 from ConAgra deal
New total is 14.49. I got 15 dollars back, plus 1.00 Holiday Bucks and 4.50 off milk.
Once I got those coupons, I did another ConAgra deal, used the 11.00 in coupons and paid 2.72 for
3 Wesson Oils
2 Star Vinegars
1 Electrisol (had a 2.25 coupon–(paid $1.25)
Great deal…

I’m assuming I need to actually spend $30 (with preferred prices) to use the coupon. Does that seem right? Also, could I use manufacturer’s coupons to bring the total down below $30. I was thinking I’d scan the $7 coupon first, while the total is still above $30. Am I going about this the right way? Thanks!

OMGosh, I just have to share my super couponing experience. I purchased 9 boxes of Lucky Charms with a rain check from a sale a couple of weeks ago for $1.88/box. I bought one box of Total. I had a $1 cpn for Total, $2 cpn for 5 boxes of LC and $1.50 cpn for 3 boxes of LC. After all was said and done, my total was $15.99. I received $15 in catalinas and $4.50 towards milk. Jewel PAID me $3.51 for 10 boxes of cereal!!!! THANK YOU Jill for the inspiration.
I also got 4 Glade air freshners from CVS for FREE using 2 BIGOFree coupons and their $5 CVS rewards for purchasing $10 in Glade Product. I now LOVE grocery shopping and look forward to getting the ads!

I went to Jewel today to get in on the GM and ConAgra deals. I bought 4 boxes of Chex Mix bars 2 for $5 (minus $3.20 in coupons), a box of Fiber One Toaster pastries for $2.19 (minus a 70 cent coupon) and 5 boxes of fruit snacks 2 for $5 and got my $15 in coupons and $4.50 milk coupon.
I also bought 9 boxes of Swiss Miss for $1 each ( love them for Christmas gifts!), but since they are regularly $2.35, they met the $20 minimum and I got my $10 coupon!
I also used 2-$1 coupons for Red Star Vinegar and got them for free.
Then I went back in, got 2 sirloin steaks (B1G1), 2 pkgs. of chicken breast (B1G1), 2 strips of yeast (65 ea. cents with coupons), and milk (it gave me the entire $4.50 off even though it cost $3.99!). Get this! With the $10 coupon, one $5 coupon, the milk coupon and the yeast coupons, I paid 15 CENTS! Plus I still have 2 $5 coupons left!

With the holidays coming up, everyone could use some cheap cream cheese for cheesecake, all those yummy dips or just a regular ‘ol cream cheese bagel. Jewel is having a great deal on Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese. For the next three days, (11/20 -11/22 ) the cream cheese bricks are on sale for .99 cents. But it gets even better. Kraft is running a special at the same time. If you buy 5 bricks a $2 Catalina coupon will print to be used on your next purchase (that’s .60 cents each); OR buy 6 and you will get a $3 coupon (that’s .50 cents each) OR buy 7 and you will get a $4 coupon (that’s .42 cents each). They have a fairly long shelf life (the ones I bought expire in April 2009) so this deal is too good to pass up. There is also a coupon for .50 off 2 in 11/2 SS making this an even better deal.

Are both the Conagra and GM deals over, or are they still going on?
Thanks!

I am late in posting this but I thought I would share how my shopping went on Tuesday night. Not great, but not too bad, either!

Used 10 cat from Conagra deal last week. Paid 16.23 OOP and got 15.00 in cats and coupon for 4.50 off 1 gallon of milk and got sweeps entry

-1 pkg. provolone cheese (Jewel)
-1 can pizza sauce
-2 tins Altoids
-1 pkg. Krakus ham
-1 Jack’s pizza ( .75 off)

Thanks, Jill, for sharing your tips with all of us-it has made a real difference for me in just a few short weeks! I was NEVER a Jewel shopper until I heard you on Johnny B’s show and saw your website! I am now obsessed with coupon deals!!! Thanks so much!

Does the $25 in Kraft products need to be preferred card price?
